Thanks devs! - Nook HD, HD+ General

Just wanted to say a quick thanks to verygreen and leapinlar for making my nook HD+ infinitely more usable. I've got cm10 running very well and on the nook side I've got play store and even GPS tethered via Bluetooth from my phone. I'm very pleased with this device, thanks in no small part to the devas here on xda.

Non Nook user with an ereader problem.

Hi, I'm using another android tablet, and i honestly cant find a good ereader app, i love the nook app, but it wont show any of the pictures embedded in the epubs i read. Is it possible to load the reading app from the stock nook on my tablet? Thanks for the help!
No it uses BN's framework to run sadly.

Try Mantano reader. I love it for reading epubs, pdfs, and I can even import my nook books and read them there.

Trade touchpad for kindle fire?

I am thinking about ditching my TP running CM7 aplha 3.5 for a kindle fire. Aside from the decreased screen size, is there any reason to not do this?
All opinions welcome.

I got rid of my touchpad for a kindle fire and I have no regrets except one. I went from 32gig to 8gig. Other than that I am very happy with my choice. CM7 runs so much better on the fire than the TP in my opinion.

Wired kindle and apk force closing.

Hey all,
I have the wired kindle app and it used to work great on my nook running cm9 but now force closes on the n7. Anyone know why and how I could fix it?
Thanks.

apps designed for the kindle fire will not work with the Nexus 7. there is no way around this.
you can install the amazon app store and install apps from their, but kindle fire apps will not work.
Can I ask why?
Would it work on a custom Rom? For instance once cm10 is released, couldn't it work then?

incredibly unlikely.
The kindle fire uses an insanely customized version of android like the Nook Color and apps that are made specifically for those devices won't work on any other version of android.
In some cases they can work on other devices, such as the amazon video on demand app which can work on a nook color running CM7, but it won't work on any device not running android 2.3 and on a 1024x600 resolution.

That's weird because it was working fine on my nook color running cm9.
Maybe if the new kindle comes out at a higher resolution and the woods are optimized for that...then maybe that'll work.
Thanks for your help.

as i said, the Amazon VOD app worked on the nook color because it was the exact same version of android and the same resolution.
Any other variant and it won't work. Now yes the new kindle fire will have a larger resolution. but there it could be the same situation. same android version + same resolution otherwise it won't work.

[Q] Nook Color or Kindle Fire

Hey, so i have a question. I'm pretty sure i know a lot, but i want to know if its a good decision. I'm trying to trade my nook color for my friend's kindle fire. Now, i know the kindle has no physical volume keys and no micro sd slot, but it does have a dual core 1 ghz processor. plus, my friend's has a super stable aosp stock 4.2 rom on it. its smooth and runs a lot better than my nook on cm7. so is the trade worth it?
I guess the question should be......if the Kindle Fire is better, why would he trade?

idk, i think he doesn't know anything about the nook color. so is it worth it? his only has 8 gb of storage
I have a Kindle Fire and a Nook Color in my house. The main reason I can see for going with the Kindle Fire is if you want to run the stock OS to get access to Amazon's content (Kindle books and Amazon App Store). Amazon seems to have more free books and Apps (their daily free App). I haven't seen as much of this with B&N, sadly, which is why I liked the rooted Nook OS. If you don't care about the content from Amazon, I think the Nook Color is a better device. It's designed better and offers much more flexibility on upgrades (microSD slot) and media types it can handle. The Kindle feels more locked down.
Now, if you plan on going with a custom ROM on either device, you can get access to all the content you want from Google or Amazon on a Kindle. That makes it even more worthwhile. The CPU is a minor issue compared to the rest of the specs.
so which one do u think is better with a custom ROM?

I have an 8gb Nexus 7. You have to be extremely careful or you run out of space.
I know it's "different strokes for different folks" but IMHO, the NC is the more versatile device.

true. so i think the main reason i'm trading is for game performance. if i keep my nook, can you direct me to a thread to get the maximum performance out of my nook?

Ubuntu Touch for Nook HD/+

What about our devices? Is possible to get Ubuntu Touch for tablet to our (capable running CM 10.1) ? It would be very nice to be able to run android or ubuntu, and buy the dock and have a full computer.
Hope it is not a duplicated post
I am also interested in knowing about installing Ubuntu on the Nook HD+. My understating is that the stable version will not be released until next year.
