[Q] Nexus 7 3G HSPA+ 32GB - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I bought online the 32gb version of Nexus 7 with 3g capability.
Actually I'm leaving in Australia using it with a Vodafone prepaid microsim with data bundle and the navigation is not fast like in mine galaxy nexus i9250. First of all during the internet navigation I noticed Nexus 7 switch between 3g and H always so i checked with network widget if there are differences in connection speed with Galaxy Nexus that is working with Vodafone as well.
I discovered unfortunately my nexus 7 is always in HSPA with a speed of 700-1700kbps and my Galaxy Nexus works in HSDPA o HASPAP with a speed of 1.4 Mbit - 14Mbit or 10Mbit - 20Mbit in the second case.
So is it possible to force the Nexus 7 to operate at higer speed ?
Thank you in advanced

I have exactly the same problem. On my galaxy nexus i get hsdpa and hspa+ depending network load. With the nexus 7 3g I only get hspa. I tested with two providers and both gave the same results.
Anyone have any ideas how we can get the nexus to use hspa+?
Running 4.2.2 with 1231_0.17.0_1205

When you make this comparison, are you using the same SIM in both devices? Same APN?

Exactly same thing here!
Navigation speeds seems ok, but downloads are slower than my smartphone on the same network.
According to my carrier, my 3G (HSPA, HSDPA, HSPA+) signal is located on 2100Mhz Frequecy...

I dont know if this is possible, bit I'm thiking that the tablet only works HSPA+ on 1700MHz or 1900MHz.
Because these frequencies are the most used in USA for 3G connection.
Can someone comfirm this?

Mine gets HSPA+ on 850 MHz from Bell Canada, but apparently only regular HSPA on Wind Canada's AWS band network.

That's interesting...
But you are really sure that in your region Bell uses 850MHz for HSPA+? Because they use the 1900MHz too...
Just asking...
Is there a way to email Google about this? Maybe a Software correction can fix this, because the frequency is supported, and maybe some upgrade on baseband (modem settings) can enable HSPA+ on other frequencies, like 2100MHz...
Regards!

I have a phone that can select bands between 850, 1900 and usually when I check, the default band it's connecting to is 850. I could cross reference when I have a moment to try it out.

Could you post a screenshot of the status screen, showing the HSPA+ connection?

At work I'm only getting HSPA:10 but that still translates to 8200/1900 speeds. I'll look into it when I'm home.

How I wish have that speeds on my devices...
In my smartphone with HSPA+, I got 5Mbps/1,2Mbps
On the Nexus 7 (regular HSPA) 2Mbps/1mbps

Unfortunately, the only device I own which is capable of selecting individual radio bands is not cooperating anymore with the SIM card that I use in my tablet. So I wouldn't be able to tell you whether it's running on 850 or 1900. Also, I could have sworn that in the past I have seen the tablet report HSPA+, but at the moment it is consistently reporting only HSPA. Nonetheless, I am still getting exemplary speeds.

Nexus 4 on Telus, issue with DC-HSPA+

Hey everyone,
I'm using the Nexus 4 on Telus, and I'm having issues connecting to Telus' DC-HSPA+ network. I've checked under status and the only thing it ever shows is HSPA+:15. I'm aware that it needs to display HSPA+:24 in order to use the DC-HSPA network. Has anyone on Telus been able to connect or have some kind of information on why it isn't working with the Nexus 4?
HSPA+:15 gives me speeds similar to DC-HSPA on T-Mobile US

Just wondering how to check HSPA+ status?

Slowest Data Speeds on my Nexus 4

I have T-Mobile 30$ Prepaid plan with 5gb 4g data and then 3g unlimited plus 100 minutes. I have a download speed and upload speed of 100kb- 200kb. No idea why. I got higher scores on my Nexus One. coverage is perfect in my area. Is it my APN settings? I set it to IPV4/IPV6? Any help:laugh:

i've had this problem. you can check your apn settings here. but when i talked to customer support they pretty much told me if that's the speed it i get then they can't do anything about it. so if anyone else has any more info that'd be cool. :good:
Maybe u getting throttled?

I love my data speeds on T-Mobile monthly 4G...T-Mobile 3G is slow are you sure you can't get H (4G) in your area. Tmobile's 4G will actually only come on when data is being used. So I suggest browse the web for a little bit and when you see H come on then run a speedtest. But the phone idols at 3G and I didn't have to mess with any APN settings.
Edit: I am on the 70 dollar plan unlimited everything and no throttling.
No that's impossible... I only used 500mb so far...and I have a payment due in three days. I have H all the time. My iPhone 4 gets faster speeds...and that's stuck on 3G

What speeds were you getting with your Nexus One? And have you tested your WIFI speeds on your N4 are normal as you expect them to be?

Yeah they are. I got like 3-4 mpbs on my Nexus One as well as my iPhone 4. My Nexus 4 gets 200-300KB 3-5 bars H icon. I get my usual 15 mpbs on wifi so it cant be the radio on the phone..
is there a HSPA+ option that we could turn on and off. or is it when there is HSPA+ it automatically connect.

You can enter *#*#4636#*#* and change to WCDMA to GSM auto. See if that works. I have a nexus 4 and a contract plan with t mobile and I have HORRIBLE speeds. But yet good reception? Here's my screen shot
Look full bars and H

This is FULL reception. I know its tmobile because I get 12.00 Mbps for about 5min / 4 times a day, if I'm lucky
Have you tried calling tmobile?

Even after a month i still have these issues. Is this a defect on the Nexus 4? I've had three replacements and it still persists.

No but what would that do xD?
Confirming that I'm having the same problem, on at&t. My Nexus 4 gets terrible speeds compared to my 850 Mhz Nexus One and my One S. Same SIM and APN on all of them.
It's also ridiculously slow to switch the data connection on (read: to show H+ in the status bar or start showing the up and down arrows.

Nexus 4 on 1900 and 1700 bands at the same time?

I still havent got my nexus 4 yet, but it is still on the way. I just had a quick question. I am going to be using this device on tmobile. Tmobile is currently making its hspa available on 1900 band and nexus 4 supports both 1900 and 1700. So can nexus 4 run on both bands with the same sim card or is it restricted to one band in some way. It would be cool if it could run both at the same time because in areas where 1700 isnt available 1900 could be used and vice versa. Thanks.
The phone defaults to the best available band

The band is auto selected. There is nothing for you to do. Since the N4 is pentaband, it will have no problem whether you are in a new 1900Mhz T-mobile area or not.
Don't u have to type *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer and choose lte

There is nothing you have to do. Your phone will use any of the supported bands if available, 850,900,1800,1900,2100 or 1700/2100 automatically without you having to do anything.

hotspot using LTE data?

can someone please link me to the URL that makes the nexus 4 on LTE share LTE using hotspot, i can hotspot but it will only work on GSM mode(speeds are really slow if its NON LTE speeds), if i try it on LTE mode , the device can connect to my nex4 hotspot but it won't get any internet
im on the Rogers network in canada
thanks
The Nexus 4 does not really truly support LTE so this is one of the issues, unfortunately there is no application to do such thing.
Have you switched to a 4G plan?

Works fine with Bell LTE
For what its worth, my Nexus 4 with 4.3 and the .33/.84 hybrid modem works fine with the hotspot feature and the phone operating on LTE. I'm on Virgin Mobile Canada (Bell Canada) so I think more of a carrier specific limitation.

Nexus 4 network type problem

Basically I'm swing two different things on my nexus 4 about my network settings. The note I'm in UK on three service provider and in strong area where I get 8-18 Mbps down and 2 up on (h). Here's my issue when i type: *#*#4636#*#* this shows: network type - umts. But in the settings on about phone this shows: mobile network type hspa. Take note I'm on wcdma prefered. Am I just being a noob or is there something not right. And ibfound this when my speeds dropped to about 5 to 11 Mbps down but this was during 11pm to 2 am. Can anyone help I've tried every other option like changing band to LTE and CDMA and gsm but nothing works and thanks.

Just an update, I'm now getting 14 Mbps like nirmal . but still don't get the utms and hspa differences?
