Windows 8 is awesome. However it doesn't have the ability to create ad-hoc networks from Network and sharing center. The only way is to use netsh utility from CMD every time you want to start or stop your network. .
So I created a batch file to automate this process. All you have to do is to start it as administrator, follow the instructions and voila!. No need to open cmd again and again
This utility creates an adhoc network. You can use it for streaming Videos and Music or playing LAN games.
For Internet sharing aka Hotspot
Go to Network and Sharing Center –> Change adapter settings
Right click on the device which is connected to internet and select Proerties
Now, open Sharing tab, enable Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection, and then choose the newly created ad-hoc connection from the list
PS. Was wondering if mods can change the topic to "Connec8 - Wifi hotspot utility for windows 8"
Thanks

Anyone tested this on Surface or any other tablet running Windows RT? Would like to know if it works. Thanks
Next update will include ability to save a profile for quick start hotspot without setup

Can you view your computers files on your phone using AS

Activesync? How would you do it? Through file explorer or something?
I'm doing it by standard means of Windows.
Yeah, just enter your share's name on your device. The built in file explorer will do it, but I prefer Resco.

Can you not Active Sync via wifi then??
I have wifi but never tried it
I don't think so.
I don't know for sure as I don't use Activestink. (It will not run on my computer)
When I was using AS and the built in file explorer I didnt see an option to look in My Network? Do I need to configure anything? The furthest "Up" I could get to was My Device
I dont understand how to get to My Network? Anyone?
How do you connect to your networked PCs?
Hey how did you connect to your networked PC? I have Total Commander and have tried setting up the network neighborhood through that to no avail Can you access the network neighborhood via the built in file viewer?! If so how?
Thanks, Jess
BTW, Microsoft disabled ActiveSync via wifi in version 4 due to complaints of security, etc. Try 3.8 I believe that was the last version that supported sync over wifi. (Although I have not tried it)
Im not sure how to setup a network with my phone? Anyone know how to do this? Please?! Thanks!
Sorry to go on but... Anyone?
I think I need to set up a network on my computer so the phone can connect to it? Yes? No?
This works for me:
My Computer
Computer name: pchome
Create a folder on you PC for example "PocketPC" and share this folder!
PocketPC
Using TotalCommander in this example.
- Open TotalCommander
- Double click "\\" It should be above "Application Data".
- Double click "LAN"
- Double click "< new server >
- Enter "pchome" -> "OK"
- Press "OK" again
Now it should show pchome on your screen.
When you double click it it should show you your shared folders
Hmmm, that looks good I will have to try this when I get home.
To share a folder you just right click it and tick the share box or something dont you?
Correct
I cant get it to work ?
I followed all those steps... Hmmmmmmmmm, just coming up no files in the folder
I followed the same steps, even have other folders that are shared... still not working... hmm
Thanks, Jess

[APP] WM5torage

This is not my application, it's an app by Ingvarr (a MoDaCo user). Ingvarr has released this app which reached version 1.9 over the time.
This program will export the flash memory card inside the smartphone as usual USB Mass Storage device (ordinary "usb disk") - effectively turning smartphone into flash reader. Its completely free, but if you find it useful, you can show your gratitude by donating to author: Make A Donation!
With WM5torage you can attach your device to a PC just like you would with regular Flash Drives or Removable Disks, skipping the ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center connection. This is especially useful because it offers higher transfer speeds and in scenarios when you do not want to sync with your PC or set up sync on another PC. WM5torage works on both Professional and Standard versions of Windows Mobile 5 or higher. If you are having problems with the operation, use the options in Troubleshooting.

Okie herez the steps itz very simple :-

2) Connect your Phone through Active Sync and Run the MSI file and Install T2 Remote Touch.

4) Now go to your phone and complete the setup.
5) COme back to your desktop and Finish the Setup.
6) You will see a window with 2 ip Addresses one to control through Internet and one through local WiFi or WLAN. Note down watever u need and press any key to continue.
7) Next Step is to configure the Server Right click the Remote Touch Server Icon in the SysTray and click Setup. These setup the port no. and the password for your server. If your server is behind a router then make sure to allow the port no. u set for port forwarding.
8) All done now start the app in your mobile. Most probably you will get a Authentication Failed, because the default settings might not work for everyone. Go to Menu > Setup. Put in there the IP Address, Port and Password you have and all done you can now control your PC from your mobile after connection.
9) Use Scroll to move through the desktop and tap for left click. I hope u can figure out the rest of it.

i had a problem like this, probably not related but ill explain anyway now that ive mentioned it
*linking a .lnk directly to the "advanced" tab caused me to have issues like the one your having = unable to make/edit a connection.
*for some reason it needs to load the connection in "tasks" before showing it in "advanced" so linking me .lnk to the "tasks" tab fixed my issue.
however, i suggest you run the htc connection setup, or ConnectionSetupAuto.exe.
this will add a new connection and youl be able to see/edit the connection settings

Hardly, I suppose. The menu interface should be visible without any connection setup. Example - stock rom for any non-htc device.
My old Asus has no first boot setup or whatever like my Leo but Connection menu interface is available for manual setup.
It looks like either OP has problems with mui, or some "interface tweaks" had ruined the menu....
Suggestions:
1. Check mui
2. Do not cook in your custom tsk and all graphic custom **** and try to make close to stock rom.
Greetings. Well my connection was added but i wasnt see it
I find the solution, the problem was in the .rgu in ExtendedPkg from oem directory was changed by mistake. im using osbuilder. im just dump again my stock rom and change it, Now work fine.
Thanks all

[APP] micro-httpd (GET / POST / CGI support) cross-compiled to Android

Hello,
A while ago I've managed to cross-compile a basic web server, resulting in a native ARM executable (you can find it here) that allows any other device to connect to port 80 (or whatever) and browse the contents of the phone.
Easy to exchange photos at a cafeteria which has wifi and both phones are connected - for example. No need for an FTP client, slow bluetooth, and so on...
However, I wanted more and since webserver was only handling GET (no POST / no CGI), I've started looking for an alternative that did the job.
Below, you will find a native ARM executable of micro-httpd, a light weight web server that supports CGI.
Download
Use it at your own risk!
mini_httpd_1.19.arm.tar.gz
It supports .htpasswd files to restrict access to folders - and it comes also with its own utility htpasswd which manipulates the password files.
micro-httpd website: http://www.acme.com/software/mini_httpd/
micro-httpd configuration options: http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/maverick/man8/mini-httpd.8.html
You can use almost any CGI interpreter you want, minus PHP. The PHP 4 Android (a native implementation of PHP) has only CLI (command line support) and even if you could change the PHP code of the scripts to output the missing headers. BUT! It also outputs debug messages that you cannot control, in the output of the script!
Those messages are are considered errors in HTTP / CGI.
The creators of PHP interpreter say that is only meant for Scripting Languages for Android (SL4A) which works with what they have. You can read more here: http://groups.google.com/group/php-for-android/browse_thread/thread/79d0b5f856189675?pli=1. This topic also mentions an alternative (CGI this time) from GroomDroid but that is also unstable.
Enter PERL!
I had good success with Perl 4 Android
I can how host a blog on my phone - I've set up a big tutorial on how to configure everything here Running native CGI scripts (perl) with micro-httpd on Android.

Next step would be to try out a file manager and test file upload, then go even deeper to see if I can access various phone details and offer a sort of management interface for them on the web.

You will find the source code and the license (free) on the tutorial website above.
Seems interesting !
