[Q] Nexus Q: what software to install - Nexus Q Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey. I bought a Nexus Q from ebay and planning on running cyanogenmod on it. Is it possible to "remote" control Spotify and / or xbmc on the Q from another android device (eg my phone or tablet)? If it dont exist I'm planning on using a wireless mouse but it would be nice to use my phone as a input device.
What about the hacking ability. Any api's realesed for functionality like the original Q software for remote control of the play queue? A headsup of tips-n-tricks and must have apps for the Q is appreciated.

[Q] Streaming app?

Since it's now possible to install apps in the Q, I was wondering if there's an app for streaming audio directly to the Nexus Q from your computer or something like that via WiFi. Like WiFi speakers. Do you know any app that can do the job?? Would it be difficult to develop?
I think something that uses AirPlay would work well enough. I haven't tried it though - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bubblesoft.android.airbubble&hl=en
I'm planning on trying this out this weekend to see how far I can get (and possibly putting together some sort of AirPlay receiver service specifically for the Q).
After a little search
After a little search I found this. The only downside is that the server is Windows only.

[Q] A few questions re: CM10.1 on the Nexus Q

I was tempted to post this in the development forum. Mods, please feel free to move if that's where it should go.
Basically, I've got myself a Nexus Q and was considering installing CM10.1 on it but had a few questions.
1. Can I still control music playback from the music app on my handset and tablet?
2. Is there any advantage to installing CM10.1 if I don't have a TV? I'm not sure I could control any of the additional features unless there's a way to 'see the screen'.
Thanks in advance

If you don't have a screen, flashing CM10.1 will gain you nothing (according to my recent reading of that thread). You will lose original functionality. You will gain a launcher and easier access to apps, however.
If you do decide to use a TV with your Q, I would recommend rooting and sideloading your launcher of choice. From there, I control the Q with a combination of Juice Receiver (to call up Droidmote Server or Launcher) and Droidmote Client (on my mobile device). I have a homescreen, working widgets, unlimited access to apps, a wireless mouse (my phone/tablet) for touch events, and original YouTube/Google Music/Google Movies/etc. functionality.

minus status bar, minus nav bar, minus working notifications, minus working play store. There are also many reasons to have CM10.1

[Q] Alternative to Android Wear, using a wear device without Play Services

Hi, I recently got a Moto 360 as a present. But sadly, I soon came to the realization that you can't run Android Wear without GAPPS installed (I'm running CM10.2). I'm not going to install Google's spyware just so I can use a watch.
Are there other Apps that work with AndroIid Wear Devices? My smartphone does support Bluethooth 4 and BLE. A little bit digging showed me that some dedicated people got some functionality to work on their Iphone without Google Services. Alos when I install the Pebble App it recognzes my phone (but can not connect)
I really just want to get notifications to my watch, control music , set an alarm and maybe get my pulse data on my phone. Are there third party apps that can do that?
The person who ported the Android Wear functionality to Iphone has a Github repository of his Iphone app under shiitakeo/android_wear_for_ios . If there is no option I will have to write my own app and I'm going to orient myself on what he did there.
So you are looking for an app to connect your android phone to the iOS wear connect app on moto360? And not android wear app?
I'm looking for a third party android app that lets me connect my Moto 360 with my Phone aCyanogenmod 10.2 without gapps installed.
Without gapps I can't install the offical Android Wear app. Taking a peak in the IOS world shows me that it' s possible to do that with a device that supports Bluethooth 4.0 and BLE. The Pebbles app also recognizes my watch but does not let me connect it, this tells me that they must use a similiar protocol or maybe even the same. My question is, if someebody already did write such an App, that lets you connect your Android phone with your smart watch (without installing gapps!), or if I have to do this on my own. (I'm a software developer but never did anything with Bluethooth or much in Android.)
I'd also like to find a non-gapps solution for this. Have you found one?

[HELP] Cursor/Mousepointer on NON-Rooted Shield TV Pro

Is this possible ? heard people have the touchpad on the controller to work on tablet and portable but not on det Shield TV.
I would LOVE to have this fixed when a whole lot of my sideloaded apps need it for touchinteractions.
Can't root the device since one of the main apps im running and want to keep running is Get TV (Norwegian TV Provider) and once rooted the app will not work, rootcloack ect can't hide it from the app, feel like i've tried everything.
Heard some had it working before the 1.1 update ? why did the support fall out after this and why wasn't it fixed ?

Sorry nvidia has said that it is not a supported function of android tv so it was removed in updates after 1.1 . Does not seem like they have any plans to add it back either. i installed the full android rom from zulu99 and use my jxd7800 as a controller and the touch screen as a mouse with droidmote.

Darn, was really hoping it would come back. But with full android, is it possible there to use the right stick as a "mouse" ?
Haven't tried unrooting a pre-rooted rom before but that might be a solution to my problem in that case, but will i then be able to nativly play games from the NvidiaHub/NvidiaGames + stream from my Gaming PC with a unrooted rom ?
Thanks for the reply ! Will keep on trying to find some good way to go about this, perhaps finding a bluetooth TV remote with mousefunctionality might work ?
I have set Logitech K400 (with unified receiver on a USB Hub) and with the app Logitech Keyboard Plus You can set whatever language You prefer in Android settings as the app adds an entry for the K400. You have to discard the Bluetooth request at the beginning.

Any way to get a Android TV like experience?

Currently it's kinda hard to navigate because it's not possible to type with joycons. Apps like YouTube are also impossible to use in docked mode. Does anyone already experimented a bit and got a better experience?
You could try to remote control your switch with your smartphone.
Something like DroidMote should work. I might try DroidMote myself but the Server app is paid and I don't really want to add my Google account to the switch (I am not using GAPPS on switch). Maybe buying it on my phone, backing up with Titanium Backup and restoring it on the switch will do the trick.
You *may* be able to get an android tv bluetooth remote and connect it. I have not tried.
Kodi can give you a great dashboard for an htpc setup with a custom theme. You can even have it auto launch when you boot into android so you never see the android interface just a nice tv setup. That's how I have my Android tv boxes. I use one of these style remotes as well for the keyboard:

You will want to use Android TV apps for landscape apps like youtube etc.
I use one of these when it's in docked mode. Just have the dongle plugged into the dock and you have an easy to use mouse and keyboard.

Try hal launcher and the leakback keyboard.
sorry for kidnapping your thread, but when you use docked mode, does it go to fullscreen? Mine stays with black bars up and down... would say that it's not outputting the correct resolution...
Just want to recommend airscreen so you can use it as a Chromecast.
Replace the default launcher with TV Launcher or HALauncher. Use a blue tooth or wireless keyboard until the soft keyboard get fix. The current Amazon Fire TV remote can be paired using blue tooth and works with this android build.
I think would be great if someone with more experience could port this solution https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0ByIKEmoQi-hpYXBpbV9Sb3JFeVk
It is way to convert Shield Tablet into Android TV Shield. I've found this pdf with guide and files in zips folder. It obviously doesn't flash because Lineage has different file structure, but maybe it doesn't require much tweaking. It would be great, because it comes with Chromecast support and there are plenty Android TV apps which require full Android TV structure.
The scripts itself seems compatable, the only thing that needs proper porting would be TV Gapps. If anyone can port these successfully let me know.
Think it shouldn't be to hard to transform the OS into a Android TV. Just don't have a Switch to play with it, but i really like the Idea... Think i will grab a Switch around Christmas and make it happen...
is it technically possible to implement framerate switching and widevine level 1 support for drm protected content playback in hd in the switch android port?
see my questions here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ni...wers/to-change-tv-refreshrate-docked-t3992615
i'm really curious about that.
would be awesome to watch stuff with the proper refreshrate for smooth playback and the drm protected content in hd in docked mode
