Is this SD-Card compatible - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi
I jusr got my HD2 today, and just to see if I could get it to run something else than WM6.5, I installed WP7.8 and it worked great. But only thing was that my NOKIA 128MB SD-Card wouldn't be recognized by WP7.8 as it said that it has been damaged or replaced and I should reset the phone. After removing that SD-card and performing first-boot-configuration I put it back in, but still not recognized. It was recognized in the original WM6.5. Anyway, this isn't really an issue, as I'm going to get a new SD-card soon, so that I can run Android 4.x.x on it.
I have found this MicroSDHC-card: http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-SDC4...F8&qid=1358958006&sr=8-1&keywords=sdc4+16gbsp
I know that it isn't the fastest card, but it will work for me. Is the card compatible with the ICS and JB NAND-ROMS that are available?

Yes, it will work. You may wish to consider Sandisk as well - Kingston did not perform all that well in comparison (see sd link in my signature for more info).

Put that card on computer and format it to ntfs and after that do a fat 32 format.
I had a 16gb card that failed working on phone and when tried formatting it on pc it wouldn't do it; then I thought lets try ntfs and it fixed it.
Give it a try.

SD Card reader issues

Hello folks,
I figured I would go to the experts to get an answer to my question.
On my universal I was running Windows Mobile 6.1, I didn't really like it as the phone was unstable, so I downgraded to Tmobile Windows Mobile 5 (which is what ships on the phone) everything is running smooth (Shout out to SPB Shell 3.0 AWESOME!!!)
anyways after the downgrade which went through without incident, my SD card reader does not SD cards, I know it is not hardware because it worked fine when the device was running WM6.1.
Anyome have any ideas as to what happened?
the device simply does not recognize any size, 32MB all the way to 2GB.
I have searched and found nothing.
Anyone have an updated driver for the SDCard reader?
I have extRom installed so I can put whatever I want into EXTRom and have it install.
Crapgame
It's because native WM5 can't use SDHC (SD cards are only up to 2GB). I think you can simply install SD settings by OllieD - where you can change to Type 1 or 2. Sorry unless someone else can help, you'll have to search for it.
I think i have the same issue.
The device sometimes see the card when set to standard SD or SDHC Type-I but it's really inconsistent.
Driving me nuts.
I had a similar problem, i had to eject and reinsert the card multiple times to get it to see it. The card SEEMED fine because it would work in my pc (via usb adapter)) and digital camera with no problems. But when i tried the one from the camera in the universal it worked fine, absolutely no problems.
So I bought a new sandisk one from ebay and all has been fine since, seems like it was being picky about the original SD!
i think, the sd card is formatted fat16
you formatted with "Haret"?
Haret?
Sorry for the noob question, but what do you mean?
I have tried formatting the card fat16, fat32, NTFS
nothing works
I have even tried install SD settings by OllieD adn that did not work
according to the specs I should be able to use my 2GB Sandisk Extreme III 2.0 GB SD Card, but alas my uni just does not see it.
any other suggerstions tips?
Also does spbsoftwarehouse's backup work really well?
I want to try some other ROMS on the device and I dread having to reinstall everything and reconfigure it too.
I would much rather back the dang thing up then experiment with various ROMS and then if nothing is to my liking, put my old ROM back with all my 'stuff'.
I have similiar problem.
In the past I have changed many ROM's from Tomal and many others. WM 5, 6.1, 6.5 and never had a problem with the card.
My last ROM where everything worked was Luca15thebig. After that I wanted to go back to Tomal V8.9 and then my problem started:
I did DOC format (always do that), put Tomal's ROM - ups, no SD card (with any SD card settings).
Did some searching on the forum, found similiar problem which was solved by flashing some factory shipped i-mate ROM. Again, DOC format, flashing that ROM (it is all-in-one ROM: radio, ext-rom and operating system). Booted that system (wow, time-warp to past ), frankly I didnt expect that my 8GB SDHC will work there - and it didnt.
Again DOC format> flashing Tomal V8.9 ROM> upgrading radio (that i-mate ROM reverted it back to 1.03). After a while booted Uni with Tomal's ROM, no SD card. Tried all settings, nothing.
Tried same thing but with that new Thing V2.3 ROM (very fast and stable BTW). Same thing - no SD card in file explorer.
My card works in my laptop. I even tried to format it in laptop - and my Uni still dont see it.
My friend has an Uni and I tried that card in his device. It works (he is using Tomal V8.7 ROM). Tried his 1GB SD card in my Uni - not working in my device.
Im no specialist but i think you guys have a hardware issue with the SD port. Maybe loose or something inside. Hope thats not the case. If multiple cards using multiple Roms do not work in Uni but work anywhere else then I would have someone or myself check to make sure the SD slot is soldered properly still.
i've encounted many issues with the SD + sdhc drivers for the universal, i'llw rite up a longer post with more information later as i've had a long day.
summary: keep trying different cabs, one will eventually work. make sure its formatted FAT32. popping it in and out+softresetitng a few times may be required.

Question on 7720/SD Card/Android

I get the whole "locked so you can't use android" stuff, but this seems to apply to when people try to do the whole use one SD card, then repartition before first boot.
The other way we were doing this (and the only way I like to because it's the only way to get a 4gb WP7 partition on a 16gb card), is to do all the flashing and **** with a 4gb card then once the OS is up and running turn off the phone, copy the WP7 partition (that is unalterable, but copyable) to the 16gb card, then restart WP7 with the 16.
Now, has anyone actually tried this? Because it seems to me that it would look to WP7 as if nothing has been changed on the SD card because we copied the partition. Has anyone tried this with 7720 yet? that would be cool because I don't want 7720 if I can't also run ACA on the same SD.
If someone who already has 7720 flashed could try this I'd really appreciate it, it either works or it doesn't.
I highly doubt it would work. I tried copying partitions from NoDo/xboxmod's ROM a while back and when I put it in a new card it came up with the "storage card has changed" error. I probably did something wrong though as others have reported it working.
why don't you give it a shot and let us all know ...I'm using ACA on a separate card and mango on another as of right now. kind of a ***** to keep switching out cards but i'm only testing mango to see if I'll use that instead of android.

well it takes forever to flash/update/update to 7720 and it would be really easy for someone who already has to try it. But if no one does I guess I'll have to.
7720/Android
This seems like a good idea, any luck with it yet? I want to run 7720 + SD Android - but looks as though no-one has found a way to do this yet. I am reluctant to go through the lengthy/risky process currently out there...
Is there any other useful thread on this topic? Seems it should be pulled together somewhere so we know when there is an answer
I tried it with EASEUS partition manager and the card just isn't recognized at all so you can't access the partition to copy it. Windows doesn't even know it's plugged in. Haven't tried with linux but it doesn't look good.

SD card isn't recognized.

After attempting to follow the confusing steps in the xbmod-yuki rom my phone froze mid-update and my sd card spazzed out and now my phone says there is no sd in the slot when its in there....I can't connect to computer either.
SD Formatter can't even detect it.

Would you mind sharing what you did to fix your SD? I'm having an issue related to Mango, don't know if it's the same as yours, but I'm trying to explore all avenues.

Sorry, yes. I installed WP7 Mango (XBmod-Yuki rom V2), SD card was formatted and locked. I removed WP7 without knowing this would happen, and now I can't get the card to be recognized in Windows, Linux, OSX, or any of my other devices that support MicroSD. Been searching for a fix, but it looks like I'll need to find a Symbian device to format the card.
After I posted before, I was able to reinstall the original WP7 rom and the card was recognized after a hard reset, but I'm not having any luck getting the unlock cab to work. Actually, now, after trying to send the cab to my device, restarting with the card in the phone or doing a hard reset results in the phone just not loading the OS.
Sorry for being long winded, but I'm just about out of ideas. Thanks for any help

The way I fixed that is an aweful thing to do, but it worked.
1. Flash to stock Windows Mobile 6.5 (with locked SDcard in there)
2. Task29
3. Install MAGLDR
4. FLASH WP7 (still, with that same SDcard in there)
After it's flashed, do not update, but take the card out and stick it in a card reader (hell, even the magldr >> usb storage function works).
Windows will detect 200 MB on that card. Format it with SDformatter and it will be good again.
Note: That specific card is not compatible with WP7 MANGO, so don't try to use that ever again ;-)
It took me a week to figure this out, but i successfully managed to revive my 8GB Sandisk Class 4 card, which I now will use in my camera instead of the HD2
Hope this helps!
AWESOME!

I'm going to try this, but I'm wondering which WP7 Rom you flashed. I originally was using the Yuki Update rom, then once all the badness happened, I flashed to a much older one, then back to Yuki. However, in each of those cases, I never got the 200MB partition. Anyway, I'm giving this a shot, will let you know. Thanks!

Hi hautsi, welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately the thread you posted, dated January, only works for the pre-mango ROMS (and possibly XBmod/Yuki V1)
Look here for SD format http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242071
also Krewsia1nl's method should be posted there

Hey again all,
It's possible there's something else wrong with my card at this point. I tried Krewsia1nl's method and it seemed like it might work, but I still never got any additional partitions that my PC could recognize. I tried it a couple of times, 12st with an older WP7 rom I found in the HD2 WP7 dev section, and 2nd with the original Yuki rom I was flashing. Same issue in both cases.
What I did find is that I can see the card in the Yuki rom after flashing, BUT if I restart the device, it freezes, I have to remove the card to be able to boot it, and when it reboots, it tells me I must insert the card to continue. Great...
This also poses a problem with unlocking the card in WP7 with the unlock or partition cabs. To install them, the cab sender restarts your device. Once that happens, my phone freezes and I have to remove the card. All subsequent attempts to reboot or reinsert the card are met with either nothing recognized, or an error (It's also important to note that I can only see the card on first boot after following Krewsia1nl's method-if I try to hard reset with the card in, the phone just keeps freezing).
So, for now, that's where I'm at. I'm going to try the UBCD Killdisk method and I'll report whether or not that works, in case anyone finds themselves in this particular, sinking boat. Killdisk Method is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1280293
Thanks again for your help, all. Love XDA <3
Killdisk didn't work either. Guessing my card is fried, but I'll still try a Nokia if I can find one.
I also tried to install Yukis Mango 7720 but not with good result.
Does this 7720 work in any HD2...
Ubuntu doesn't do anything if you add your WP7 SD card to reader.
Win7 shows that you have "Removable Disk" but if you try to access it Windows says "unable something....".
I thought that I have also two fried SD card because this 7720 testing.
But Nokia E51 format successfully both cards )
i have an old Nokia 3650 and a few cards that mango has ruined. Now if I can just find the plug for the nokia......wonder if it will format them ?
Just got my 32 class 4 SanDisk in the mail. How do I release the card in tmous hd2 and add 32 to set up dual boot droid. Reflash from start.... Awww lawd! Took all night! Can I hard rest with no card and do it with cabssnder to partition card and card unlock and party with rum tonite?
Sent from my HD2 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Btway.... Xda devs and forum participants could teach the worldwide manufacturers a thing or two about the way it's done. Thanks to all.

What an absolute disaster the BTTF Yuki rom is...It is inevitable, most will lose their sd cards, it cost me $45 to replace. I'm sorry, did not intend to knock the rom, the rom is excellent, the concern, it will ultimately cause you much duress as to the sd card at some point, that's my only point. Not many folk expect to lose the sd card after installing... and reinstalling...yes, there are work arounds, but, they entail, much ado and worst case, nokia.kodaj devices...there should be a MASSIVE warning as to SD card...yes, the small print offers cabs and tinkering to avoid the 'lock', but most of us don't expect any such chicanery.-)

[Q] Dead SD card reader???

Hi All!
I am a great fan of this forum, Android and my GT540.
I first rooted my phone when is had 2.1, then shifted to the LeWa custom roms and then after the recent update to Miroslav_mm's Project IceScreamSwift I "bit" the bullet and installed this ROM.
Miroslav is an absolute genius, this ICS 4.0.4 ROM is so smooth. I used a 256 MB swap file on my class 4 micro sd and overclocked to 825 Mhz and this thing flys  I can't believe this GT540 can keep up with the industry's best. The only down side is the 3" screen Thanks Miro!!! Great work.
Anyway, back to my topic. Sadly my SD card reader is not working. I have read on the net that this is a common problem. I wonder whether the swap file had anything to do with it or was it the latest ROM I installed? I'm just wonder whether anybody else had the same problem and is the situation recoverable?
I am going to try and test the card on by PC using and adapter to see if the card is actually gone but I firmly believe it is the reader on the phone since it is not registering or giving any errors. When I tried to mount using the recovery menu it stated no such file or directory.
I read one guy stating that his reader started to work again after some time pasted for no apparent reason. I hope mine does the same
I look forward to your comments. Thanks!

I had kind of a same issue, i was using Miros 4.0 ICS ROM, but went back to SDSL 2.1, i had partitioned my sd card before to have native swap of 256 mb, when i tried to flash SDSL 2.1 by Recovery, it would flash it and all, but it wouldnt install it correctly, every time i tried to reboot the ROM, i got stock on Silver SDSL logo, then i would go back to recovery to try and flash it again, and recovery wouldnt read my sd, i would say E:/ is bad, so i thought i might have been my sd card reader, after flashing by fastboot, there was no problem with my sd card, i was able to use it normally, then i tried to flash it again by recovery but same problem, recovery wouldnt read my sd card, i tried using another SD card and it worked on recovery, so i think something happen to my other SD card when i went back from Miros ICS to SDSL 2.1, the card works correctly but i cant flash any rom using recovery with that SD card.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for sharing your experience!
I will give it a try and let the community know if its :good: for me too.
Bad news people. The above didn't work for me. I tried several different ROMs (including flashing the standard ROM) but no luck.
The SD card reader seems to be "dead". The funny thing was that when the SD card disappeared after a few days use of Miros latest ICS ROM (June.2012) it was still working very smoothly despite the lack of the 256MB swap file and SD card. Ofcourse many of the installed apps disppeared too. Now that my sd card doesn't work I can't go back to the ICS ROM since it is only available in "recovery" form. Does anyone know if a "fastboot" form exists?
Now that I have lost the SD card feature I will not be able to use the phone anywhere near its full potential. Very sad indeed. Time for a new phone
Unless anybody else has a solution for the above......the moral of the story is be very careful with ROMs and SD card usage as pointed out by our esteemed developers.
Just for reference only, my last setup when the SD reader was working was (2 GB SD) partitioned as follows:
partition 1: data 1.5 GB
partition 2: ext4 0.25GB for Link2SD
partition 3: swap 0.25GB
Hm you already tried to clean the SD ston on your phone ? maybe it just bacame dirty with the time.
Thanks for the comment andreas! but could you please explain the meaning of "SD ston"?
If you mean the pins in the reader, they appear to be clean.

oops slot of course yeah okay
Just and update for those interested.
I finally got my hands on an external card reader and discovered my 2 gb card is actually dead. I remember taking a about 30 photos that day when it had the newly installed Miro's ICS and noticed it locked several times. I don't know if that had anything to do with it. Anyway, my PC did not recognize the card had been inserted so I couldn't reformat/revive it.
I tried to insert a new 4 gb card into my phone today again (previous attempts failed) but before doing so I carefully bent the connectors in the card reader slightly outward, inserted the card, jammed a piece of paper under the clip (so it would press down and make good contact) and believe it or not it read the card I have since installed "AOKP 4.0.4 ASIS b40" and loven' it.

[Q] HD2 CWM and MAGDLR can't sense/mount microSD

Ok, here's my case laid out. I've searched the forum to death, so I'm pretty sure what I have here is a head scratcher so I'm hoping someone can help me out.
I bought a used HD2 off craigslist. It came with WP7.5. When I plugged in the data cable (i.e. USB cable), I didn't get a prompt for mounting to SD card. I installed Zune and got all the drivers (going through the MS troubleshooting list), and the phone was able to mount to Zune with only 200 mb. No problem, right? This error is common. I find out that if I use an SD Formatter, I can clear the card, which is 16gb, back to it's original state by mounting the card through MAGDLR.
After restarting the phone, I still couldn't get more storage than the allotted 200 mb, except it had decreased to ~150 mb. My phone was filling up quickly. I researched that, under WP7+, there should be a "connections" option under settings for mounting the SD card through the cable, so I thought "Hey, maybe it's because this flash of WP is missing something." so I reflashed my HD2 to stock rom using a guide.
While as a stock HD2 (T-mobile), I had now 600 mb of space on the phone to use, but I noticed that the HD2 still wasn't sensing my card. Bad card, maybe? So I tried an 8 gb I had, a 2 gb I had, and a 32 gb I KNOW works from my tablet (and still works on my tablet). I decided maybe it was the ROM's fault, so I decided to flash android on it, since I'm used to android from my other phones.
So I follow Jayce's guide and put on the proper HSPL, MAGDLR, the right Radio, and CWM to flash a new android ROM and banish my problems once and for all.
PROBLEM, I'm stuck here because (dope!) even MAGDLR and CWM DO NOT SENSE MY CARD(S). Now I'm stuck and I don't know what to do. Is there a way to get it running at the very least? I know the microSD slot is pretty much the most reliable piece on the phone, so I don't think it's broken.... but maybe it is?
So either a) somebody help me get the phone running with any ROM or b) somebody help me figure out how to get the SD cards working.
Sh*t out of ideas here.
[edit] OK! I FLASHED IT USING THE OL' HOLD DOWN THE "DOWN VOLUME BUTTON AND FLASH THE STOCK" Could still really use help with the SD card sensing thing though....
it wouldn't be the first bad sd card slot reported here, so, reliable it may be, break proof it isn't.

I had a bad SDCard too, it doesn't work in recovery but does in the ROM... I think you should really think about replacing your card. Flash memory has a limited amount of writes, so I wouldn't be surprised if you lose your data or find it unusable one day.
