OK, I've now officially burned 4 hours trying to get my Epic to work properly with Windows 7 (64 bit) for anything besides mounting it as a USB drive.
I tried the (32-bit?, and only?) driver Samsung seems to officially have for the Epic 4G.
I tried the 64-bit driver(s) apparently intended for Kies.
I've installed, uninstalled, shutdown-after-uninstall-instead-of-reboot, and sacrificed 3 chickens to the appropriate gods.
I temporarily made TouchWiz the homescreen instead of LauncherPro.
I made sure the phone was in "PDA" mode and NOT "modem" mode (##8778##, I think).
I've updated everything Windows Update will touch, then installed the Asus P5N-D motherboard chipset drivers straight from Asus' international site, just for good measure.
I've attempted to upgrade the Google USB driver through tools (the app that gets launched when you just type "android" from a command prompt).
Oh, I also made sure that USB Debugging was NOT enabled when I connected the phone for the first time after supposedly installing the Samsung USB drivers. Two of the drivers installed correctly. Then I enabled USB debugging, reconnected USB, and ended up (for the Nth time):
SAMSUNG Android USB Composite Device: v/ Ready to use
CDC Abstract Control Model (ACM) O Installing driver software... (for 20+ minutes)

For the record, I have a core2quad 9600 running at ~2.6GHz with SSD, so it seems almost inconceivable that it could legitimately take 20+ minutes to install ANYTHING.

I've tried deleting it, uninstalling it, uninstalling it and shutting down (vs restarting windows), the works. NOTHING will kill it, or at least it won't stay dead when I try. Worse, when I try reinstalling the Samsung drivers, I usually get a message along the way that installation of the drivers for the Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller failed, even though it's not even connected.
This is driving me insane. It worked fine under Vista/32, but I've never been able to get it to work properly since I got the SSD and Win7/64. Specifically, I've never been able to get ADB to work, and the USB driver situation appears to be completely fsck'ed.
Is there some secret strategy I'm forgetting for making Windows forget everything it thinks it knows about a corrupted USB driver installation and making it start over from a clean slate? I think the problem is that I have a driver that's latched onto something, refuses to be deleted, and won't allow itself to be overwritten.
Before I waste any more time on this, can anybody recommend any specific things to try? I have to get this working tonight

I had the same problem, but found out that its all b/c of my cheap 99cent usb cable. When I use the official usb cable that came with the phone it works fine.
Argh. It appears I've forgotten rule #27,326 of Android -- don't believe the error messages. Half the time they're wrong, and the other half of the time something is lying to you. Despite having the USB driver that I can't get rid of or fix and the error messages announcing that installation failed, it seems to work. At least, adb logcat works, and I was able to deploy an app from Eclipse to the phone right now.

Which particular driver did you end up with? I tried using the Samsung Moment drivers (saw a vid on Youtube using these as a substitute for the Intercept handset), and though I got similar errors as you - and supposed fixes - my Eclipse was never able to connect to the handset to debug an app, grab screen shots, or anything. Would love to figure out how to get my Intercept to work with my Win 7 64-bit setup.
First of all, a large number of people (myself included) agree that the stock USB-microUSB cable sucks balls. I ran into the same problems you're having, and then they magically went away when I replaced my cable. You can find super-cheap cables on Amazon.com, or if you're a "gotta have it now!" type I know the Radio Shack cable works great, I have it.
Secondly, I know the drivers on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7933592&postcount=1 work, they're what I'm using.
I would imagine you just need to replace that stock cable. Sometimes certain things will work, but I had almost exactly the same problems as you and they all went away when I changed my cables.
Also, try to use a USB socket that's directly attached to your motherboard, i.e., a USB port on the back of your PC, as apposed to front- or top-mounted USB ports, since those add extra hardware and connections that could decrease reliability.

For what it's worth, I am using the drivers from Samsungs website on all of my windows 7 x64 computers. Haven't had any problems.

Use this to remove any residual drivers from your computer before installing your new drivers. It is a very useful tool when you have driver conflicts that may be happening.

Hmmm, I hadn't realized that! Why the Hell did CirrusFlyer resurrect this thread?
I had the same problem and the problem ended up being my new dell xps core i7 tower. Use a powered usb hub such as your monitor with the usb hub ( if you have one) and it will solve your headaches. I am willing to bet money this will work, everyone I know that has had the same problem has solved it this way.

The usb socket directly attached to my motherboard was the problem a powered usb hub for some weird reason made it driver up every damn time and still works today.

Cpagent is 100% correct on the powered usb port causing issues. And that goes for multiple devices for an assortment of usb drivers... I have to deal with it all the time with my customers (that's assuming I've already exhausted every other software possibility... for this reason I only work on customers phones on an older xp 32 pc with proper hardware) it really ticks me off how little software developers.care about adapting basic drivers to be compatible with the machines most commonly used by the people who actually have to use said software/hardware ...

I am having issues with USB on my IO Tab 10.1. It's rooted and is still holding root. Currently, When i power the tab, I can not ADB or fastboot into the tab. I can reboot into recovery from terminal app within the Tab. Any ideas on where to get started?
I have a real hardware issue with the USB.
ADB works but it disconnects all the time. USB keeps connecting and disconnecting.
I am sure it is a hardware issue because it happens even more when I beat softly the tab in the bezel. That little acceleration make the USB connect or disconnect.
I will have to buy a new cable and cross fingers for it to solve the issue.
Anyway I have contacted SAMSUNG and they said to me that the Tab can only be repaired if it is in US.... so bad support from them to worldwide developers and bad luck for me that I am in Spain.

Haven't had any issues myself. What OS do you run. You need to install the Samsung drivers on windows. Need to set the Samsung USB id on Linux, and it should work out of the box on osx.

I have tried on Windows, OSX, and Ubuntu. It was working before. Now, it does not work. When I am on Odin3 mode, the tablet is seen using USB. Shows up on W7 as Android Phone with ADB. Fastboot (USB) mode does not work.
Like l said, I can still boot into recovery. I am hoping that someone will have a update.zip or Odin3 complete update soon. It's really odd. Working one moment, then the next moment, it does not work anymore.
Just called Samsung. Level 3 told me that they'll reflash it for me for free. So that's all good. Will take 7 days.

Hey Guys, Just with the disconnecting and reconnection of USB devices in Fastboot or Recovery. Iv had that with a couple of different phones, and it seems to be an issue with what USB port ur using?
I dont know if there any truth to it, but when i move the phone from a USB hub, to a USB port straight from the mobo, it seemed to connect the device fine..

I upgraded to ICS tonight and one of the best new features for me is the ability to now connect a USB MIDI controller via USB OTG.
This is awesome for me, and one of the areas that iOS absolutely kills Android.
Android still has a long way to go before it can offer anything like iOS for music creation, but this is a big step in the right direction.

If you have a USB controller that is bus powered, then you can play your keyboard anywhere!
We just need more apps that support this feature now. I only know of one (the Grand Piano app I use in the video).

I would kill to have AniMoog on an Android device with a midi controller. I play that APP for hours on end and is the only reason I keep the ipad. I'm an absolute sucker for Analog synth sounds. I may just skip the Ipad next go around and buy a Moog.
I think the display on the Note is too small for that app. Here's hoping Android gets some good synth apps soon.
Yeah, I think for live performance you would a 9 or 10" tablet. Although if you have the hardware controllers to adjust parameters, you just need the processing power of the device and be able to read the screen. You wouldn't need to use the screen to adjust fiddly knobs. But I doubt revs would write an appointment that requires an external device to be used effectively.
But if an app like Caustic had USB midi support, it would great for songwriting or noodling with ideas on the go.
The synthetic screens in that app aren't too cramped on the Note. I was even using it on the Galaxy S without a problem.

Korg Nanopad
I couldn't get the korg nanopad to work, (as in be recognized in USB MIDI Monitor)
This would be sweet for practicing my finger drumming on my lunch break or such.
I also have Maschine, but it blinks twice and then goes dark, I think it draws too much power. I plan to try a powered USB hub when I find the power supply.
Galaxy Note to Yamaha PSR I425

I tried to connect my Galaxy note to Y PSR I425 USB using OTG adapter, the USB Midi monitor application detects the presence (as it pops up from the background) of some device, but eventually says "No midi device connected". Any idea? Any other app works with midi devices?

Does that Yamaha keyboard allow you to connect as a standard midi controller?
If you plug it into your pc, does windows recognise it, or do you need to install a driver for it?
I haven't found any apps yet except the piano and pipe organ by the same developer

Yes, I am able to connect my PSR-I425 to Windows 7 (64bit) OS. This keyboard uses Midi via USB. Ofcourse you need a driver that comes with the CD (also downloadable I guess).
If you need to install a driver on win7, then it's not a standard usb-midi input device. Standard devices don't need a special driver for windows to recognise it as a midi device.
Android only works with standard usb-midi devices.

I suppose it depends on each user. For me one of the killing points from the Note (and for tab p7300) is the capability to connect through the right connector an vga projector. This is awesome for me as I use this devices for my work. In parallel I use a pointer connected by blue tooth.

I have a Yamaha motif es 8 that to connect to the computer needs drivers through the USB. What if I connect it through the midi ports with one of those midi usb would that work for android?
I'm not sure.
If you have one available without buying one, then it can't hurt to try...
BTW, the midi implementation on Caustic 3 is pretty cool.

I got mine mk808 yesterday. I bought a mk802 in august but it "burned" after 1 week. I also think that the mk802 was very laggish... The mk808 is far much better!!!
So far I am very very very happy with it!

I got mine today. I ordered it over a week ago. Weird because I didn't get my shipping information until last night, and when I tracked it, it was already out for delivery.
My Measy Air Mouse R11 is screwed though I think. It keeps sliding to the left hand side. I even tried on my PC and it does the same thing. I've tried to resync it and screw with it, but it keeps moving. Very hard to use a mouse that doesn't stay still. The MK808 is fun. I just got it tonight. I haven't had the time to get really crazy with it. Seems to run ok and would be far more enjoyable with a good input device.
Ordered mine today (only $60), if it really works as reviews say, it's quite a bargain
Do you still have problems with the rc11 or are they solved ?

I fixed my Measy Air Mouse R11.
To reset the Gyros, you lay it flat and press and hold LEFT ARROW + G for a few seconds... making sure it is flat. Now it works great.
I'm having some weird issues with some misbehaving apps. Root explorer started freaking out. And now my FPse won't use OpenGL for the life of me. I'm interested in trying the CM10 build for it but the operation requirements are bland. Supposedly it requires CWM recovery, which is supplied but doesn't give specifics how or what order or process to get it done.
I have to say that it is a fun unit to work with and chews through FPse roms. I'm surprised how well it runs for a chinese chipset.
Flashing is a bit of a chore and instructions aren't very clear, so I'll post them here:
With the unit OFF:
Insert a paper clip into the reset hole and press it in and HOLD IT down.
Awkwardly insert the MicroUSB-PC cable into the OTG. This will power the unit and it should boot into Flash mode given you've held the paperclip down properly.
Trying to install eGalax Touch Screen linux driver
I'm trying to install the eGalax Touch Screen driver for Linux 2.6 that came with my liliput 7 inch touch screen. The touch screen is for use in my car. Using the mk802 II or ug808 to replace my audio system. I just need to get the driver installed. The driver installation script is looking for the locations "usr/local" and "usr/bin", but the only "usr" directory I can find is in "system/usr"... I'm not sure if I should use that location and create the local and bin directories there or not. But when I created the usr/local and usr/bin at the same level as system (which is in the "mnt" directory which is also at the same level as "root" directory (btw, I cannot find a "home" directory), the install seemed to work fine using Better Terminal Pro android app with the bash shell. However, when I restarted the device, the "usr" directory that I create was gone, so the driver install was wiped apparently, and the usb HDMI touch screen still does not work... I can post the bash script if that helps. This is the last thing I need to get this to work, then I can have a full Android ICS system in my car. Thanks in advance.
FYI The HDMI works great to view and use a usb mouse or the RII keyboard. they work great. It's just the touch screen input does not work. It used to when I first turned on the device with the touch screen on, but the x-y coordinates were reversed, hence attempting to install the driver. I have ICS compiled from source and may attempt to add the drivers into it and create an img to them load on the mk802 II, but I fear that I'll loose any proprietary hardware drivers that came with the mk802 II.
I also wanted to make a img backup using ROM Manager, but ClockworkMod is not available for the MK802 II. ANy leads on this would help. Been researching and testing this for a month now.

Ordered on the 26th for 65$ (actually cost £42 through paypal),
they shipped on the 29th (tracking never worked).
And it arrived on the 6th. So quicker than expected.
I've applied the firmware update which was a slightly newer build of 4.1. Mentioned in both these places (applied the tweaked one from deadhp1 for the play store location fix in case needed)

It now seems to play any avi / mkv / mp4 i've given it (usually on a usb stick or micro SD). It happily plays avi's over the network (using ES file explorer).
Its definitely better than the out of sync UG802 which wasn't quite right and the power lead came out too easily.
I use the custom stock video app (seems to come with most of the RockChip devices) and MX player (it looks a lot nicer)

It is a mini PC that has HDMI output. Your TV must have a vacant HDMI input so you can plug the mini PC into it. My TV supports 1080p. And so I can set the output resolution on the mini PC to 1080p. But it also could be set to 720p as well. These don't come with any display so you have to plug it in to your TV or a monitor that supports HDMI. The audio is pushed through the HDMI as well. To control it you can use a USB mouse and/or USB keyboard. Your cheap wireless mouse will work but the USB ports do not have power to them so I've had to use a powered USB hub to make my wireless keyboard work further than a foot away from the USB dongle for the keyboard. The hub also allows you to plug in other devices like a USB camera. But the ones that work are somewhat limited , be aware. Does that help you understand it?

probably you will need the kernel sources. also, you need root access. that error (directories that get lost after reboot) might be due to yo need to remount the /system partition in rw mode (by default is ro) and perhaps you will neet to do some symlinks on /bin to /system/xbin.
other thing you..must get in considwration is that android is different from linux.. and that you might need to compile the kernel module, such thiing im not sure that is posible from within the device itself...
or.. i just might be way off track, in which case jyst dismiss my answer

just so you know it doesn't have built in bluetooth.
if you need bluetooth google for imito mx1. this one seems to be the best mk808 model so far. i got mine last month but haven't tried bluetooth yet. antutu gives a score around 6500. it's a nice toy to play with on bigscreen tvs.

can anyone comment on this non-support of XBMC for Rockchip? and if not Rockchip, which stick-PC gets it right?
one comment also that I would like more info on is that both iMITO units underperform compared to MK808
"Lack of XBMC support for HD hardware acceleration is a major issue that Rockchip needs to address if they want to keep selling SoC chips to the Stick PC mfgrs. Stick PC makers need 2 take action on this as well and if Rockchip won't play ball, they need to consider alternative SoC. We need more processing power anyway to get close to current smart-phone level and play the latest 3D games."

I have the following issue. I bought an otg cable and it was able to mount my flash and mouse the first two times. Since then, it only gives a kick start and both my mouse and flash drive are powered down after 3 seconds. I tried them separately. To summarise the problem my nexus 7 does not give enough power to its microusb to be efficiently running an external device or the software recognizes it improperly and shuts it down.The cable works, since its been tried on 2 other devices. Now I wasn't able to find a proper solution to the problem so I'm asking if someone's dealt with such an issue. Running a rooted stock android 4.2.1

You didn't mention which app you are using to be able to mount external storage. It requires Nexus Media Importer (paid app, read/stream only) or the free Stickmount (requires root, provides read/write/streaming). A mouse or keyboard will work without root or either app, but mounting storage requires an external app or a custom kernel with built-in support.
I am using stickmount, and I'm sure it would do its job if I get the devices power for more than 3 seconds

Have you tried to see what the app "USB Host Diagnostics" tells you when you try to mount?
It's from the same maker as stickymount, maybe that will give you some better insight at what's happening.

Hello there, yes I have tried it several times, but it could not discover any attached devices, since, as mentioned, the power to the external devices is cut off 3 seconds after the physical insertion. Said devices aren't powered, that's what bugs me. If somehow electricity reaches them, I would be somewhat relieved since the problem would apparently be from the os or software. Right now I cannot get power to the devices, that's why I cannot do any diagnostics. Any ideas on why that might be ?
I would try another OTG-usb cable. Perhaps yours is just enough out of spec it worked at first, but now fails, or it may have been damaged after the first uses. Maybe static shock or it got bent or something. I got one through Amazon delivered to me from Hong Kong for 65 cents (including shipping). It took 17 days to receive, but it works great. I don't know how they can make any money like that, but I'm happy.
