[Q] Multitask and Sound problem - Windows 8 General

I'm having this issue with multitasking and sound where eg. if i open xbox music and then go back to my desktop the music volume reduces. Another example would be where i am chatting with a friend on skype(metroapp), i can't put it in the background and do other things because the sound reduces so much that i can't hear it.
I tried going to sounds in control panel and make it do nothing when there is communication activity but it doesn't help.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Oh yeah that was quite helpful.

Neither is your sarcasm. I didn't see the latter portion of your post, and had posted the same idea, ie going into CP. I later deleted the redundancy. Given your attitude, I'll keep any subsequent suggestion to myself.

Congratulation you just wasted a few seconds of my life reading your post. Please do keep your subsequent suggestion to yourself.

^^ Well that escalated quickly.
I have the same problem but only if I am in skype and switch out my speakers for my headphones. That is when I encounter that problem.

Also how the hell do you plan on fixing your problem if you aren't willing to take suggestions from him.

Well, e.mote's "suggestion" boiled down to either "I didn't read your post" or "I'm going to imply that you're an idiot for even asking this" (instead of putting in an edit saying something like "EDIT: sorry, mis-read OP, please ignore"; seriously, how else would you read that initial response post-edit?) depending on whether you read the pre-edit version or not. I wouldn't have found that very useful either. Since he further went on to be sufficiently thin-skinned to be unable to take mild sarcasm in response to (intentionally or otherwise) coming across as an insulting prick... seems unlikely he was in a helpful mood anyhow.
Yo, e.mote, you've been very helpful here sometimes, but don't be a prick, man! BTW, your avatar doesn't do you any favors in the "no really, I'm not a sarcastic troll" department, even if your Thanks meter does.
To the OP: do you have different Communication and Default output devices defined, by chance? Does this problem still happen when using headphones? If you switch the Sound->Communication option to "Mute all other sounds" does it have any effect (I know you tried setting it to Do Nothing)? I've not heard of this problem before. Another thing to try: open the Volume Mixer (on the desktop, right-click the Volume icon in the tray and select Volume Mixer, or left-click it and then click Mixer) and see if your background Metro apps have a reduced volume there for some reason.

@GoodDay
Your name-calling isn't appreciated, nor is putdown of my avatar. It is below you, and my opinion of you is lessened. My future responses to present company may be less graceful.
Words can be interpreted in a variety of ways, and I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. However, I don't believe snark is the attitude to take when one is trying to get help. As you well realize from your own tart-tongued responses to some, there is no obligation here to answer questions or provide tech support.

@goldflame09
The first step to troubleshooting is to hit Google search. I'd start with
http://google.com/search?q="windows+8"+low+sound+volume+on+multitask
I didn't see any immediate relevant hit, which usually mean that it's not a systemic problem, and more of one particular to your setup. You mentioned that it happens in Skype, and only when headphones are involved. Then, expand your search out to enclose either or both of those terms.
You may also want to just search on "windows 8" skype low audio|volume to see if there are hits.
If you haven't already, I'd also suggest getting familiar with Google search syntax. 90% of all questions here, as long as they aren't specific to the particular setup, have already been asked elsewhere, and some will already have solutions.

I've had this exact problem. Here's the solution:
Go to the desktop and right click the Windows volume icon in the task bar and click on "Playback Devices", then in the "Sound" panel that pops up (and under the playback tab), right click your Speakers and click on "properties" then go to the "Advanced" tab, and deselect the "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" check-box.
If you notice that Skype has been lowering the volume on other applications when it's open, then go to the "Communications" tab of the same Sound panel and select "Do nothing".
While this helped me a lot, I discovered some new information on the subject from the MSDN blog on sound tagging and priority in Metro apps here:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/windowsappd...edia-to-make-your-app-shine-in-windows-8.aspx
Hope this helps.

Thank you for these responses. I will look into it.
As for you people who keep criticizing e.mote's comments. Stop it or I will have mods close this thread because apparently you can't stop b****ing like little kids do.

I should have kept my criticism private, and for that I apologize. Nonetheless, I stand by thekiller99 (the original parent of the thread) - if a comment is made in error, then edited, it should be marked as such. If you feel that's out of line, you and every other member have the right to notify the moderators, but - to adapt your own earlier response - you're not likely to get much help from people if you shut down the threads where you're asking for help. This is the Internet; there will be misunderstandings and mistakes. Accept that they will happen, try to avoid situations that could cause them, and apologize if you cause one anyhow. That's all any of us can do.
Please let us know what you discover. It sounds like the issue occurs in a few different forms. It may also help to mention exactly what hardware each person is using, in case there's a common thread that can be used to find the root of the problem.

I accept your apology and offer my own for being rash.
I will let you know what I come up with though.

Why my thread got closed??

Why my thread got closed I wana know how to make x10 vibrate and ring at sametime when receiving a call.
because unless there is something lost in the translation, it is VERY obvious that the phone can vibrate and ring at same time. its a basic function of the phone. is that not what you meant?

Honestly I don't know why people are assuming you don't know what you're doing, I think it's safe to say you know how the settings on your phone work, after all you are posting on XDA so one would think you're tech savvy enough to know how to enable vibrate and ring...despite the large number of morons on here nowadays.
What I'm getting at is I'm experiencing a similar problem myself. Only my phone no longer vibrates when I receive messages. It will vibrate and ring for incoming calls but only ring and no longer vibrate for sms. I never changed anything, it just stopped working properly about 2 weeks ago and I was hoping the problem would solve itself, sadly it hasn't yet. I've double checked every setting, uninstalled and reinstalled different apps and have emailed Handcent about the issue, no solution so far.
Also, when I go to the notification settings in Handcent and "test notification" it never vibrates now, regardless of the vibration pattern I select.
Any real help other than unfunny childish smartass comments would be appreciated, for both of us I think.

I dont think they are childish comments, but the comments are assuming a lack of technical ability
What troubleshooting have you done? What (apart from uninstalling apps and changing settings) have you done at all? Have you thought that your phone may be broken?
Chances are that if it is failing at vibrate, then no amount of software tweaks or 3rd party apps can fix a hardware fault. TEST IT using the service menu.
(Lock screen - Menu, Back, Back, Menu, Back, Menu, Menu, Back) Service tests => Vibrator. If your phone does not vibrate, then you have a problem. If it does vibrate then go back and check all your settings again - factory restore if required!

How can we assume that the user has any technical skill when this is what was written. If you have an issue, please give a decent outline of what it is (like RVICTORG has done) and the other users can probably see where you are going wrong. "Its not working" does not help anyone.

No I haven't looked at any of his other threads, and believe me I know there's a lot of idiots on this forum nowadays, but I guess benefit of the doubt before harsh words :S Doesn't matter now, he solved his problem but I haven't resolved mine.
Like I said in my earlier post, my phone will vibrate for incoming calls, just not messages any more. The service test was one of the first things I did and I can confirm my phone will still vibrate. I have absolutely no idea why it's not for messages and I feel like I've exhausted all possible solutions barring re-flashing firmware. I haven't received a response from Handsent yet, based on that and no others commenting here I assume this is just an annoying isolated incident.
Will update if I find a solution. Thanks for your suggestions guys despite me having already trying them it's still appreciated and if you think of anything else let me know, peace.

so does your phone vibrate at all now? what were the results of the vibrate test in the service menu?

Facebook 1.4 just hit the market

Just updated fine for me on Myn's.
The update includes:
Groups - support for those new 'small' groups
Places
Improved notifications - view the comments without leaving the app. This is huge - it actually seems to work.
Overall, the app seems to work much faster and be snappier over 3G.
Really wish I used facebook.. So over it now, but I bet our phones do a great job with it..
cool, thanks for thanks for the update.
Yeah the app is near perfect for me and just as enjoyable to use as the iPhone app.
Places works great, just used it, actually..
Just needs push notifications and chat.. Though I simply set facebook to send notifications to my push gmail account and BeejiveIM works great with Facebook chat.
It's better but still "meh".
This, and cards, are the only place where I like Webos better. In facebook for webos...
You actually get notifications in the notification area when you have new notifications on Facebook.
Why can't we have that?
I'd also like the ability to delete posts and comments and the ability to "like" comments.
Yeah...why they can enable push notifications is beyond me. Its on the iOS, webos, and blackberry apps...android really gets left out.
I also wish they'd improve the update status menu/area. The 1.5 line thing that they have now is very hard and doesn't allow for a very long update...their mobile website is better.
Thanks for the update info!
It's an improvement for sure.

Whenever receiving an error of any kind, after updating any app of any kind, you should clear any data/cache that is associated with the app.
If that doesn't work, then take the step of uninstalling and then reinstalling.
That usually fixes problems after updates.

This was in the old app as well. Doesn't look like it's changed. You can only remove posts that you've done from the app, which is nice, but sucks that you can't do ones from your laptop, ect.

Actually, I just tried and you CAN remove comments ON YOUR OWN POSTS but not comments you make on others posts.
You also CANNOT like comments.
You CANNOT delete wall posts though.
I think the next added feature should be orientation options for the main app screen. For some reason you can view comments, pictures, and just about everything else in landscape, just not the main screen.
Otherwise loving that I don't have to open the browser when I want to read a comment

Suggested items for Motorola to fix in a ROM update

I thought it would be useful to have one constructive list of software bugs / issues / improvements. My list is short:
Exhange email notifications don't always work
Exchange email contact pictures don't appear
Ability to choose background and text colors in email
Ability to increase font sizes significantly (its all too small)
User ability to modify RGB color saturation etc

Not to knock you here... but if you have any bugs you really should submit them to... um, Motorolla. XDA isn't their bug tracking system.
1. The background data toggle in the power widget does not work. You have to go to Settings > Data Manager > Data Delivery to toggle background data.
2. Fingerprint swiping is too slow to get out of the lockscreen.
3. FLAC support.
4. Enable zoom in and zoom out icon in the browser.
Fix the audio drivers. No voip apps work with how they built this device.
turn off the button illumination when in desktop dock clock modus
Ability to turn off the haptic feedback on the home buttons!
- Fix the BT Stack so that it pairs correctly with lots of in-car BT systems.
I'm glad we have another "Let's ***** about the Atrix" thread. Can't we keep posts to being constructive? Just like mister_al said, send a bug report to Motorola, you're wasting time posting anything here.

I don't see any *****ing here except you about this thread. Look at other phones on XDA they all have a thread about bugs....let's collect all the bugs that we found for a while and then we can send them to Motorola.
As soon as i get the phone shipped here, i will submit directly to motorola. For now, for what i have seen, the biggest issue for me is the purple camera.

Also, Air attack HD LITE doesn't work. You have to start it, quit to home, then launch it again... wierd?
Also, RGB saturation... If the nexus s updates can fix screen colors displaying wrong, so can the atrix's.

[REQ]Lost controll of Headset/Home button click on my SII Please vote

I would like everybody to vote to push Google to give us back the same button click functionality that we had under ICS. Every paid App I own stopped working after Google changed behaviour of the "Long-Press" wired headset and Home button click.
Some replies to the Google thread;
Reported by [email protected], Aug 6, 2012
Prior to Jelly Bean, applications like JAYS headset control (among many others) were able to bind actions to various combinations of headset button presses (one, one and hold, two, etc.). This functionality no longer works because of the hard coded binding to the Voice Search application. At a minimum, the new Voice Search binding should be optional so existing applications are not broken. Ideally full control over headset actions should be provided by the OS natively.
#17 neurolizer The hard coding of headset button longpress to launch Google Now prevents important functionality that was provided by many button control apps. I hope Google will give us control to turn this feature off so we can use the 3rd party apps to meet our needs.
#32 [email protected] After I went to JB, I found this fxxking bugs too. So on the next day, I have bought myself a new iPhone. I will only switch back to Android until Google fix this bug. I love Android and Google but forced to betray due to this annoying bug. So disappointed to Android and Google.
#65 [email protected] Please fix this super annoying issue... This is Apple-like dictatorial behaviour !I need long press to configure headphones behaviour, thats mandatory in public transportations.
So please please please, VOTE at this link!!!
Please click the STAR on top behind the issue description. And tell all your friends that they do the same! Thanks!

How to setup voice notifications using Tasker | Tutorial

Hey Guys!
Tasker is really epic, we all know that dont we?
I discovered something epic, and made a tutorial out of it for you all to give it a shot, it works on any android device [It's 2015, get a decent device] it's not restricted to the One.
Why can this be usefull?
Well my friend at The Techolic featured the video on his website, and and mentioned every reason why this is epic!
So do check the article out too!
http://bit.ly/TheTecholic-BlogPost
So what is the tutorial about?
It's simple, suppose you're cycling (using my own example), headphones always on, due to that i miss important notifications, even if i notice that something has come, i have to stop to read the notification, but that irritates me, or moreover takes my average speed , So i used Tasker and Autonotification to make a profile which would work with headphones connected/or not (it's upto you), the profile will speak up all notifications, specially whats app's or texts, for eg. it would say, "New Message from (Contact Name). (Message).
This also works for all of us lazy asses out there, Feeling Lazy to read? or even extend your hand to the table next to you? damn this would do the job for you, speak up the notifications
Let me know how is it, and if you find it usefull, hit on the Thanks meter
So you made this video? You're Android Kingdom?

Nothing new that is not on Youtube and the multitude of 101 Tasker howto videos. Oh and please don't bump you own posts.... And BTW you don't need anything else than Tasker to do this. You want ot learn more about tasker programming ? Look for
