Info:a great kernel dev joins us! - Galaxy Note II General

Faux123.. One of the great kernel devs has started supporting our device! U can verify this by checking his git. With other great devs like pongster, simone, andreilux, glewarne.. The future looks very very good!!
Edit1: morfic gets a note II Too..
Furure looks brighter hahaha

hmmm i would like to see if all kernels devs would join together (gokhan, andrei, faux, simone and etc.) and would try to make superb kernel ofc it is only dreams

OMFG.
Faux on both of my phones. This is fauxing awesome. Faux yeah!

Precisely my reaction! I missed him after i switched from the one x!
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2

I am hoping for a dual-boot kernel hope it will be soon available

This would be his first venture outside of his Qualcomm world so don't expect any wonders at first.
In cases where reputation preceeds the actual work it mostly ends up in something disappointing... At least faux does some original work as opposed to some clueless cherry-pickers people already mentioned here, even if it raises some eyebrows of some devs I've talked to including me about the benefit of any if those changes.
At least I'm happy if there's somebody which would invest some energy in bringing up the Linux scheduler up to date.

YAY always nice to see great dev's developing for Gnote2
BTW Codeworkx got note2 yesterday too

Yeah though its the lte version. Still practically the two devices minus some stuff are the same so we will reap the benefits too!!!!
Andreilux just the fact that we hav great devs like u and faux. Smells so much like awesome dev for the device!
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2

Until other phone manufacturers realize to use huge batteries i think the future looks bright, cause demand. It's just epic to use phone without worrying battery run out on the move. At least for me this is first phone I don't need to turn off anything to make phone last till I'm back at charger.

MORFIC.. One of the best devs around.. Also bought a TMO note II and will most likely build kernels for us!
He is a very famous kernel dev for the nexus devices.

i curently waiting for contract which ends in about june so 2 years with this community . now about the new toys out there i think dual core will be more then enough, quad cores will i think run a bit too fast regarding battery life. maybe like most of our ex members the single core oldies will last them through
For me its the memory and screen that were holding me up with the GT540. Tempered glass versus "touch me/scratch me" plastic and enough memory to download everything from Play Store
This phone runs stable at 1300mhz and the official CM7 is rock solid. Seriously though, there are so many roms around that its hard to know where to start... I'd recommend this phone to anyone.
yeah but soon sgs will be like gt540 old and less active but it will take a lot longer and even so it has many many many many roms to choose from. But for me i think next upgrade will be a nexus easy to unlock and well taken care of by google

I am still waiting for a custom ICS rom that has good battery life (like 2.3.5). I use it a lot on the bus and sometimes at school. i come home at the end of the day only having 15-10% left using sammy's stock roms @ 1Ghz
Replaced my GT540, amazing phone thanks to custom ROM dev. community.
Won`t sell it, I am still trying new ROMs as dev release them.
Farewell, nice choice for new phone

It's kind of sad really. I mean the best way for android to compete against ios would be a nexus device with s3:s hardware. That would mean quick updates and no decision between best hardware and best software like we have now.
Thank you for putting words on my feelings.. I would really like my device to have the Nexus logo with pure Google experience and updates.. There is too many steps for a device to get updates.. First from Google then make their own skins and enhancements and then the carriers will bloat it some... Someone got a nexus here? I'm just thinking how it is to hold in the hand compared to s3

There will be one, or a few coming around thanksgiving time. The question now is who will make the next nexus. There is that rumor that there will be 5 different Nexus devices by different manufacturers. We have already seen the Nexus 7 by asus, so that leaves 4 more. Unless they are also counting the Nexus Q as a nexus device which means we have 3 more to go

I don't want to do that yet, because as soon as I dump the Sammy-based ROMs and install AOSP it leaves me nowhere to go when (inevitably) I become unhappy with the phone's performance. I'm quite happy with the speed of it at present, and I'm not quite done playing with the built in features such as awesome codec support, Smart Stay and I'm itching to meet up with my friend who has just got his S3 so I can test out the Wi-Fi Direct thingy

Me. I find the little bump at the bottom of the nexus makes it sit more naturally in the hand than the Galaxy.
By the way, pure opinion here but Google now sucks. It just sits there sucking up battery and doing stuff there are already widgets for and the voice search is about as weak as s voice.

MIUI ROM

Throwing it out there as I have the time to pursue but not the hardware - anyone willing to part with a p3113?, I'd like to port over MIUI for the Tab2. If anyone is interested PM me.
For the love of Google, someone get this guy a P3113. Or donate so he can get one! I'll throw a few bones your way Tuesday/Wednesday.
Anyone else interested in MIUI for our tabs? If 25 of us just do $10, this guy, might just deliver something awesome.
Can, you provide us with a little more info on your dev skills; can you handle such a task? Also, a donate button, or paypal link would help your cause, getting donations.

Hah' thanks for the plug. In theory this would be my first full blown rom. Ive always done the testing, never the up front work. I've gotten my tab to the point where I don't even care if JB gets ported to it. Everything works, its stable, snappy, and makes no sense to mess with it.
As for my Atrix4G...that ****s taken a beating and MIUI was my choice. There where too many minor bugs and since I want a phone that works full time, I stopped messing with that and went back to Jokers latest. Searching around I can't find anything for a 3113 and MIUI. In short, if I had something else to fart around with and get it to the point where it works as well as what I'm writing you with...I'd love to share, maintain, etc. Paying for the shorties education, sports, etc comes first...hah. took the honest approach with this one.

Well the GTab 2 is relatively a new device so it takes some time for the community to grow. As for MIUI I have seen the Gingebread version and it's far more superior to stock rom in my previous x10i, so I also like to see the Gtab ICS version of it

MIUI on the Atrix was outstanding - video cam and a few other minor issues is the only thing holding me back there. I could see the potential on a gt2 esp with a kernel mod... who knows, it's just a thought! polska dobra!
Sorry man but if you want a tab 2 then buy one. They're cheap.
Miui would be cool but it wouldn't be hard for any decent developer to port. Plus with the popularity of this tablet miui will come, just a matter of time.
i hear you - hoping some decent developer forgets to work on their nexus, xoom, kindle and picks up a tab2 instead... and gets the IR to work properly

I'm wouldn't dare touch the title of RecDev... but I'm interested in getting into it. I'm Gonna poke around in this... seems like everything to make this happen is sitting right there on the table so to speak.
And let's not forget that if it works on the 7.0 it can be ported to the 10.1 with less effort...

Looking over at the Dev forum it looks pretty good so far. We can't even get the phone in the US yet. I'll be jumping from Skyrocket to Note 2 as soon as it's available here, and I know a lot of Devs will as well. Just give it a few weeks after it's available in the US and Canada and you'll have a ton of ROM choices.
People like you make baby Jesus cry....
Its like a week since release and we got good stuff.
The development even quicker than that for Note 1 previously. Couldn't be happier
Speaking from experience, not many devs want to develop for non-Nexus devices, let alone phablets.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
There's going to be a decent amount of devs making ROMs for this device. All high end phones are going to have good development. But you do have to realize that not everyone wants a huge phone, so there won't be as many devs as the sgs3. But there will be enough development definitely.

I couldn't agree more. The whole point of custom ROM's is to add value to the product. I find it difficult at this point to see how a custom ROM could add value. The ROM is very fast and has features you cannot find elsewhere. There is minimal need for additional features or more speed. No need to return to Android basics or use CyanogenMod. Custom ROMs will add value when they can add newer versions of Android. If someone can port Android 4.1.2 without losing S Note, S Planner and multiview, then there would be value added.
to be honest, i miss these devs, their works for note2 :

Dissapointed by the xperia Z

I bought my xperia z and I just loved it..but now after using it for some months I am dissapointed..theres no developer support yet..no good kernels no good roms..performance issues in games such as iron man 3 and little bit about the camera too..but theres no going I have to use it for atleast couple of years hope till then the developers turn towards the xperia z and make it one of the best device..
Note:- just to clear m not really that dissapointed by the hardware its just the support the XZ not geeting..so m not a Sammy or HTC fan but yes I was immpressed by the HTC one its a great device..

Really when I was deciding for a kernel for my ARC, I just went with the best boot logo, why? THEY ALL DID THE SAME THING.

Tl;dr :we don't need 200 kernels that do the same thing. I'd rather have a team working on a super kernel, like krabbapels (Carbon team)

It's a very expensive device do you think it's affordable by everyone? The Nexus is quite more old than this one and the fact that they have the same processor might help to port things to this one. If you wanted a phone with lots of devs you should have gone for the Nexus then.
Also the fact that the Sony firmware are really well done makes it difficult to improve anything than just adding gimmicks.
PS. For not being a troll, your last sentence from the op looks quite trolling to me.

I Purchased this phone to try to get away from flashing a new ROM/Kernel every few days, and I'm not really sure the phone's software needs too much in my opinion.
I'm not saying it's perfect but straight out of the box this phone is pretty good.
If you do wan't to flash lots of mods buy a Nexus device! You will never get the same dev support outside the Nexus community.

Yes the Carbon team is developing for their own kernel ans Rom, I think its 8 members.
And f.y.i you shouldn't compare Z with Nexus4. Compare it with HTC1/GS4. They're in same price & release Range.
I think there's somewhat less of threads, but when you look at the actual topics. What so they have that we don't.
I want some optimisations..I dont think that the software is.optimized..for ex iron man 3 lags alot on the XZ dont know if its the game problem.or some thing with the XZ and I dont know about other phones like GS4 or HTC1 as I dont care about them I care about what I have..I want my Z to play every game out there as I think the hardware is.capable of playing them..

And 1 hour later you're sure that it's the game and not the phone... that goes fast, I think you just don't know what you want.
I came from the Galaxy Note and there were a lot more custom roms that right, but you're only thinking at one thing:
More options.
More roms doesn't have to mean that things will be optimized, many times it's just a GUI difference, if you just want that why not invest your time learning UCCW the possibilities are endless and the good thing is that you can use the same setup on almost every phone, you can't do that with custom roms.
The biggest downside for me:
Example: Lets say you install Custom rom X made by developer Y, what happens when Developer Y buys another phone and decides not to do anything anymore with Custom rom X, that means no more bug fixes and you're stuck with a rom that isn't supported anymore.
The more custom roms the more chances of that happening.
