[TIP] S3 works with other samsung batteries - Galaxy S III General

So today I saw my brothers cellphone laying around the house and started to play with it (It's a ****ty old Samsung). Then the battery in MY cellphone died and I wanted to change the music using the Sonos app.
So I thought 'Hey, this is a Samsung as well, maybe I can use his battery?'.
I tried it and it worked (even though his battery is a lot smaller and only has 800 mAh).
I was able to change the music so I was a happy man!
Now, this may not be particularly useful or worldshocking but I though it was kinda cool and it could come in handy, as was the case with me!
See pictures below.
Edit: xda app is acting funky, will upload pictures later!

You'r discovery is not so enthusiastic.
Once I tried to turn on Galaxy Nexus with Galaxy S's battery and it worked like a charm.

Just wait til your brother wants more power in his phone...! that is the problem

Well yeah, cause those devices are *kinda* similar, I'm talking about a dumbphone and a smartphone (hence 800mAh). The S3s battery is about twice the size as the other battery.

Haha yeah, luckily the battery will never fit his phone and he doesn't know I did it.

FYI; last night I was walking through town and playing Ingress, after about a half an hour or so my battery died and I was just upgrading a portal that's not so close to my house. Luckily my brother was with me and I could use his battery again. Haha

Holy Crap this thing is fast

Just got my Atrix this morning..and am loving how blazing fast it really is. This thing has more horse power than any phone I have ever owned..
I'm coming from a tricked out Captivate OC/UV to 1.3 and it pales by comparison..
I'm not just talking benchmarks....but while watching full hd movies..I can pause and fast forward right to where I slide it without any hesitation at all...no pixelation..no stalls..no FC's...no lag at all...I love it..
I don't have it rooted yet..and no custom rom yet..have to wait out the return period first..just in case it goes bonkers..but I gotta say...anyone on the fence about getting it..you really need to look at one..
I can't wait till I get to oc/uv this one..just to see how much smoother it really can be..

Haha I remember you from the captivate forum anyway im loving my. How's your battery so far? When I got mine it would drain with in 3h now since I rooted etc it jumped to woopiing 16h with sync and data on the whole time.

Just ran across your post and thought I'd share my impressions on the battery. I just picked up my atrix last week after returning my infuse 4g. My battery is a beast; this morning I pulled it off the charger at 8am and now its 1:46am...I am still at 50%. I am a heavy user and I am definitely surprised how long the battery last me. I am also 100% stock running gingerbread. (Also have juice defender running). If I had my infuse still and pulled it off the charger at 8am it would hit the 50% mark by 12pm.

I've also got to chime in and say this is the best stock android battery experience I've ever had. Lasts all day with moderate usage, with over 60% when I go to bed at night. Even with heavy usage I'm not running low. I don't plug it in at work like I would my nexus one, and I only charge it in the car if I'm running navigation.

Well...considering I was getting fair life with my Captivate...this one just blows it out of the water...so I think I am getting pretty good stats so far...
I had 9 hours of showing this thing off...I watched 1/2 of Transformers in HD...made 5 phone calls..8 text messages..downloaded 8 programs..played 3 different games and surfed the internet for about 20 minutes..and I am at 60%...so...I guess it's way above average... ?
I'll charge it back up..and see if I get the same amount tonight at work...but I got to say...Moto did right on this one for me..and I am loving it...All the guys at work are miffed...only 2 said I should have held off for the SGSII...and I just laughed...

With all the complaining going on, it's always nice to see people that have everything working and working well.
I am personally extremely satisfied with my self modded stock 2.3.4. The only thing that kind of annoys me is occasional lag of Motoblur. I might just try the Touchwiz port posted somewhere around here while I wait for CM7 final.
Go and install CM7 beta - you'll **** your self with how fast it is.

I'd laugh too, the SGSII apparently has absolutely atrocious battery life. They put it up next to an Infuse 4G with similar usage and such and the Infuse 4G took the cake. I think the Infuse's battery life is horrid, if the SGSII is worse I'll stick with my 30+ hour Atrix!!
Great to hear you guys are enjoying your new Atrices! As for me, i got mine the first day it came out luckily since everyone was so hesitant on getting it! As for the battery life, when i first got it, i would get 16+ hours on heavy phone usage over 8+ hours and with continuous wifi and data when i wasn't in the house.
Only when i started messing around with it by flashing different psuedo-roms did i notice that the battery life was shortened dramatically, so heads up to you new guys, dont forget to wipe your battery stats everytime you flash a new rom!

Got an Infuse and loved the size of the screen.
Had it for a few weeks and thought the size began to become annoying for things like my car cradle, pocket, etc. but I thought it was neat.
Wife's upgrade become available and she didn't like the size of the Infuse, so I told her to get an Atrix cause of the power (was Infuse, Atrix or Inspire and the Atrix made the most sense).
We got the wife's phone on Thursday. I went home, got her a different launcher, set up the stuff she would like on her phone, etc. She loved it. So did I.
It made my Infuse feel like it was running in slow motion. I played with my wife's phone for literally 20-30 minutes setting it up for her.
The next day, as soon as I got off work, I took mine back (had a week left in my 30 days), got my Atrix and (after having to take it back and get a replacement as my first one rebooted constantly) haven't looked back.
I can't believe this thing.
I was talking with a couple guys at work that had them..they got them when they first come out...they had battery issues too..but..I have had other phones with bad batteries before...and just this year .and went through 2 on my Captivate and a new charger...so..If you got one that the battery doesn't last long on..go get a new battery for it..Many folks over look this..and blame custom roms or the phones themselves for bad battery life..Just a FYI for those who have had bad luck with them..
Mac
I recently bought a used Atrix and it had 2.3.4 already installed on it. Coming from a Captivate, I was immediately impressed with the blazing speed of the device. The first day, I ran the phone hard. After 14-hours it was down to about 20%. The display had been on for over 3-hours and I had more than 2-hours of phone calls.
Simply awesome. BL is unlocked and rooted but rom is stock.

[OFF-TOPIC] Galaxy SII Hangout Thread

Hi guys, I'm new to this part of the forum coming from a Desire S.
The Desire S forum was a really nice place to be, so I decided to set up an OFF-TOPIC thread. It turned out very well, and is a great place where I made friends and learned tips and advice for both my device and other things in life.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611085
I would like to try it here. I hope this thread will also help to cut down the number of OT post in other threads. (as it has done it the Desire S forum)
Basically, this thread serves as a place for any discussion, for fellow GSII users to hangout! Feel free to talk about anything!
So let's go! How about we start by introducing ourselves?
Great lets get started

hmmm. well, tbh, not that much high-end anymore. but mid-high,yes,yes indeed.
The only thing i cld complain really at this point is the screen (just resolution, not colours, viewing angles or anything else)
The gpu is still a beast, you can see that if Sammy choose to put same GPU in s3 which is high-end device.
CPU,very nice indeed, no need to talk about chipset anyway, its gonna hold well for solid ammount of time to come.
Anyway. Im 25yo Croatian male, nice to meet you all fellow XDA members.

So I'm usually not the guy that charges his phone overnight and takes it off the charger the next morning, cuz I get paranoid something is gonna happen.
Well I fell asleep last night while the phone was on the charger. When I picked up my phone this morning it was FREAKIN HOT (I mean hotter then it has ever gotten before) and the battery was drained pretty low.
Turned out that my AC adapter went defective overnight and fortunately I had a different AC handy to replace and troubleshoot.

A quick question to you guys:
On average how much screen on like do you manage on your phone with around medium brightness?
I'm getting just over 3 hours, but I'm wondering if I should be getting more. My battery is 1 year old already, so it may have already lost its full capacity.
I'm also swaying between the Anker 1900mah and Official 2000mah. Ideally i'd like to keep the same battery cover.
Any thoughts?

Being using a Galaxy S2 for a year and I think is one of the best smartphones ever made. Even a year later remains one of the most powerful...and with CM10 I'm happier of having it...
I've read a lot of threads and discussions, and it's nice to read and write in a thread like this.
Thank you so much olyloh6696.

Sorry for my english..

Nexus 4 Dead and Unresponsive

After the whole Google Play fiasco, I decided to pick up the Nexus 4 from a local T-Mobile store. The phone worked great for 3 days, but is now completely dead. The last thing I did was launch the AnTuTu benchmark app. As soon as I started the benchmark, the phone crashed and was unresponsive. The phone looks like it is off now. I called Google support and they suggested all of the normal things (i.e. hard reset by holding the volume and power buttons). Life only seems to exist when I connect the charger which causes the LED to flash a red/orange color very quickly (reminds me of the Xbox 360 RROD).
Not only was Google unable to assist me, but all of the T-Mobile stores in my area are now out of stock. T-Mobile is going to try to hunt one down for me at another store and have it shipped which I am grateful for, but it still sucks going through the ringer for a brand new flagship Nexus 4. And because my old rooted MT4G doesn't use a micro SIM, I can't swap in the new one. Looks like another trip to T-Mobile is in my future.
I watched several other Nexus 4 owners run the AnTuTu benchmark on YouTube without any issues. Is this a sign of LG reliability or am I just unlucky?
Removable battery
It sure would be nice to have a removable battery right now... The screws on the bottom of the Nexus 4 look very similar to the ones used on the HDD in a MacBook. Definitely not a tool most of us have laying around the house.

Yeah, It could be something as simple as the battery die-ing while benchmarking.....
You can buy an adaptor to fit microsims into regular sim slots. Mayne worth looking into if there's no replacement on the horizon.

The battery was at 93% prior to the benchmark. I've been watching it like a hawk since day one.
On a side note, I've only been getting about 12 hours on a full charge with LIGHT usage which doesn't last me through a day at the office with commute. This is with auto brightness and WiFi turned on, but not connected. I've noticed the phone drops about 5-7% every hour without any user activity. The OS is reporting that the screen uses about 50% of the battery. I can't wait until they release the wireless charger, it will be getting a lot of use.
On average 2% of electronics are DOA or die within a month. That is basicly exactly where warranties come from. 1.2% for smart phones. It is 1 phone in 100. So don't be that surprised, but still bad luck.
Thanks for taking 1 for the team! lol
I wonder if this could've been avoided if broken in normally instead of bringing it to the extremes such as heat with useless misleading benchmarks.

A benchmark is comparable to playing a modern 3D game. If the phone cannot handle that amount of heat generation there is a problem with its design (or just a bad unit).

The benchmark never even started. The phone literally crashed when I hit the "start benchmark" button. This was only the second benchmark I even attempted. Neocore said my device was incompatible and Linpack force closed several times upon launch so I uninstalled it. I only ran one full benchmark with Quadrant before attempting AnTuTu.
I agree that benchmarks are misleading, this is the fastest/smoothest phone I have ever used. GSIII users can brag about their benchmarks all they want, the Nexus 4 runs circles around it in real world usage and feel. I can't stress how great the phone is. I just wish I wasn't staring at a black piece of glass.
I have to give major props to T-Mobile for overnight shipping a brand new Nexus 4 on a Saturday/Sunday. Picked up the phone today and everything is running smooth. I don't think I will be running AnTuTu anytime soon... I LOVE this phone!

Glad you had your phone replaced. Just wanted to users here about something I noticed yesterday.
Long pressing of the power button (about 7 seconds) in the Nexus 4 will force-shutdown the phone, equals a "battery pull".
I've used my nexus 4 16GB for 2 days and then it shut down on me and could never turn it on again. I've left it charged for a couple of hours, It blinks red led when plug to charge, and I tried the power + volume down combo but nothing works. HELP!
I've shipped the phone to Cambodia all the way from the States, sending it back and forth would cost me half the phone. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

hey bro, i having the same issue with you.
it dead suddenly when i run antutu. I can't boot the phone with power button. I can only boot with the charger. But when i boot in the system, the battery stat is only 1%!
are you having the same issue? so how's you fix it?

[Q] Nexus 4 on order, arrival soon, what can I expect ;) ?

So, they have apparently sorted out the stock and supply problem. I <cough> borrowed the wife's credit card and have placed the order.
They say it will ship in 1 to 2 weeks, I can live with that.
The light-hearted question I have is, once I've gotten over the excited rush of playing with the phone for a while, what have your experiences been? Good or bad! I've heard that the battery life is not great but to be honest I am not so bothered with that. I have a charger and work, and home, in the car - I can even charge it at the pub/bar I go to
Keep an eye out for issues worthy of an RMA. From there, the only thing to expect is awesomeness. You'll want to calibrate the screen color and gamma, though.
Has battery life been that bad? Because I just ordered one myself to replace my wife's 3GS.

yes battery life is very bad on this device. in sleep/standby its great. but when you do something, it drains battery very fast. just 5minutes use and at least 10% are gone.

Utter tripe. You either have a rouge app, or you have the brighness turned up full or something else stupid.
I easily get a full day out mine with moderate use. It's about 50%-60% remaining when I get home in the evening from work.
I got around 3 hours of screen on time and a full 18-20 hours standby on stock rom with the usual useage of whatsapp and gmail syncing, with web use and texting etc, and now on custom rom, I am getting up to 4.5 hours screen on.
So, battery is good, phone is super fast and smooth, camera is great if you take time to learn how to use it and especially with HDR on and a bit of post picture editing. Only down side is music volume and quality which is average at best. In my opinion.
Thanks for the feedback. I just hope my wife can make the transition from iOS to android.
I think depending whether you are on WiFi or HSPA will make a huge difference for battery. From what I understand, when using HSPA, the standby battery life is horrible.
The screen is usually the single biggest threat to your battery. And the N4 can get 4-6 hours of "screen on" time depending on use. As others have said, it can be on standby for 15+ hours, but you can completely kill the battery in 4 hours or less if you are using a cpu intensive app.
Custom roms and battery saving apps can def help out though.
I ordered mine at 3pm on wednesday and it was with me by 3pm on thursday .. so slightly quicker than the 1-2 weeks they quote!
Unlock the boot loader, doesn't matter if you decide on staying stock or what. Having your boot loader unlocked right of the bat allows you to keep your apps if you do decide to root /flash.

You'll sadly probably find that the screen is *uneven* in it's tint (yellow probably) and brightness. Because it's uneven, "calibrating" will help a little maybe but will not fix any issues with the screen. On the other hand, with luck (which I wish you) you may find that your screen is pretty much perfectly uniform in brightness and tone top to bottom, left to right. (Check using the Mail app and minimise the keyboard) I've had 5 so far and none of them are acceptable to me. Otherwise the phone is truly incredible in use. Buttery smooth, responsive, great. The screen very generally is amazing too. It's just not even as it should be. Let me know how yours is - i'd be interested to know because if yours has good uniformity I'll order another. Good luck!

yes battery life is very bad on this device. in sleep/standby its great. but when you do something, it drains battery very fast. just 5minutes use and at least 10% are gone.

My drain is 1% per hour and I get more the 4hs screen time. Please, review your device and stop giving false statements.

How much do you believe turning off the data and just running the voice will save battery life?

What? No way lol you must be lucky then. Because even the shipping method says 2 day shipping. Unless you paid a bunch of money for overnight shipping?

Played £9.99 for shipping... Think that was the only option on there?

So, they have apparently sorted out the stock and supply problem. I <cough> borrowed the wife's credit card and have placed the order.
They say it will ship in 1 to 2 weeks, I can live with that.
The light-hearted question I have is, once I've gotten over the excited rush of playing with the phone for a while, what have your experiences been? Good or bad! I've heard that the battery life is not great but to be honest I am not so bothered with that. I have a charger and work, and home, in the car - I can even charge it at the pub/bar I go to

Well expect battery drain issues (msm_hsic_host wakelock).

Who's liking their fast charging?

Loving it! Kinda took me by surprise even though i knew i had it. Waited until my battery got to 1% then plugged this baby in, went to do something whick took 2-3 minutes. Now im already at 10% wow! I could see this as being super useful in rushed situations.
It came in handy this morning. Apparently I was so tired last night that I set my phone down on the wireless charging station (forgetting that I didn't have the wireless charging cover) and forgot to plug in it. At some point in the night my phone died, meaning my alarm didn't go off. Luckily my wife's goes off about 10 minutes after mine normally would. So, I plugged it up & was able to have a 50% charge before walking out the door to go to work this morning. That was a very pleasant experience with the quick charge feature.

Note 4 being clutch! Haha
I don't know. I set my phone down to charge and within 3 minutes I was at 100%. Then again, the battery was at 98% and my N4 doesn't support it.
P.S this is meant as a joke not a troll

P.P.S Defintitely not sure about it but you can be.
Greenpeace would complain because more power is used to charge quicker and for more power used, there is more power needed but for the extra power needed, coal power stations need more coal and to get the coal you dig it out of the ground. So in other words, the dinosaurs may be dead but they are dead pissed.

Some people on other forums said it would ruin their battery quicker. So not everyone is typically fond of the idea.
Does it have wireless charging out of the box?
I'm thinking of making the jump from my Note 2 to Note 4. I still don't know if it's worth the price.....

It doesn't come with it out the box, but you can always buy the back cover from Samsung.

Or this if you do not want a thicker back cover. I hear that the back cover is slightly thicker and may not fit some cases.

The biggest I see with this "Faster Charging" is that, this is the first phone I have ever owned that doesnt die on the charger.
What I mean by that is that, when I using the HotSpot Tether and playing games and multitasking all at the same time, my previous phones would either over heat and force the phone to cut off to cool down "LG G3" or the battery percent would get lower and lower while on the charger.
This has been my problem on every phone from the HTC M8 to S5 to M7 to Note 3 to Nexus 4/5 everyphone.
With this faster charging it charge fast and is able to keep up with my multi tasking demands while using the phone.
This may be a feature of the Snapdragon 805 being able to handle the work load better.
