I Want To Change My Hovering Pen Icon, Any Idea? - Galaxy Note 10.1 General

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 default hovering pen icon is just a tiny little dot...
But I wish it could be changed to another shape like cursor on PC destop...
Pls help me.
Thank you.

Hmm, in LectureNotes you can select the size of the hover so it shouldn't be impossible to change in other apps as well like a launcher.

hmm, that would be pretty cool if you could do that.

Yeah, it does in LectureNotes.
I currently working with Screencast creating math tutorial and post it on youtube. But I think the student would be confuse if they couldn't see the hover. There is a problem when recording on LectureNote, it's lagging (paused somehow). So I chose S-Note (built-in app on galaxy note 10.1), my problem is just the tiny hover. There is no hover setting in S-Note

The pen pointer has changed in the 4.1.1 (something) rom I'm using on my n8010, it's a small light blue ring with a hole in the center that matches the s pen's tip. I find that it's nicer than the dot, but I didn't see any new options to change the icon. It would be great to have some more customization, especially for using drawing apps.

I see your problem. I use YouTube lectures from Kahn academy and similar videos all the time, some have a pointer and even though I prefer that most videos doesn't and it's usually no problems if the teacher is switching colors and tell where he's writing. Some courses are better than others, math is imo pretty straightforward compared to other classes where you have to make and edit large flowcharts etc. But that of course depending on what level of math we're talking about.
A way around your problem would be not to use any recording tool but to actually record the screen itself. Ie, just like you take a screenshot but like a video instead. This however, usually requires root and that might not be something you want to if it's not your tablet. I also think there are programs to record your voice simultaneously too, something I don't think SNote is doing.

Galaxy Note II AOSP roms and S-pen functionality

I'm sure some people have figured this out and there might even be a post about it, but I just wanted discuss what I've done to get some S-pen functionality back and to hear about what you've done. I just flashed ParanoidAndroid 3.1 and it's absolutely awesome. I didn't think I'd like not having the Samsung apps but I'm easily getting over that. I'm an avid pen user so naturally I'm doing everything I can to continue using. (Yeah it's like a drug to me.)
So, here's what I have going on:
I use GMD Spen control (found on the market for $$) to retain some gestures and add a few of my own. Unfortunately the frequently used screenshot tap is Samsung only so I'm at a loss there. It works excellent tho.
I use Catch Sketch to replace S-note. So far this app works great. The pen selector seems has a bug on the last pen and looks a lil goofy but it's basically the same as S-note. It seems to lack the color copy feature but it might show up when your coloring on a photo or something.
I use Swype that I downloaded from their actual website to retain the write to text feature.
So that's what I'm working with. If anyone has suggestions or things you've found work better please let me know!

The only thing missing for me is the ability to take snap shots of certain parts of the screen. With the Samsung stock rom I like to be able to circle parts of the screen and cut them out. I have not found any AOSP alternative to this yet. So for now I just take a full screen shot and then crop out the bits I need. Only an extra step but hey ho.
Yeah I completely forgot about that feature. Hopefully someone will be able to make similar applications soon. But they'll probably end up replaced and obsolete soon anyways lol

Hey guys I have an question to you.
Does it happen to you when you write on the screen with the S-Pen and you put it away, that for one to two seconds your screen doesn't react to fingerinput? No matter what app I use this happens but not in Samsung roms.
I don't generally use the s-pen, except to show off the bigger Note's flagship features to awestruck noobs. I moved to 4.2.2 but came back to a Sammy firmware based ROM yesterday, due to some issues. I used to play with the S-pen a lot when I bought the phone. There's one great s-pen app that I like, though - Scribble Racer.

Yep. S-Note isn't the best for anything really. I was a fan of Lecture Notes for quite a time, now I'm using Papyrus which isn't quite as customisable but makes up by being lighter and faster. It's quite adequate for my humble needs.

I just dont have the safe feeling without my samsung apps eventhough I used apex but the feeling of samsung is gone. And im sure you would want a rom build out of a samsung note 2 source rather than a aokp or cm10.1 or even aosp or aospa sources as to me I feel it lacks of a samsung felling.battery life definitely sucks too.and to relate back to the spen well I wouldnt want to remove the spen feature even seldom use it.cuz snote sometimes comes in handy too.
You can use a gesture to take a screenshot with the S-Pen with this app, and edit the screnshots.

But yeah can't do the selection thing.
I wish one of the note apps had floating windows.
This app is interesting, but no way to save or anything (yet).

What about handwriting recognition w/ keyboard? And airview? Handrite looks fine, will have to check it out, but I keep going back to S Notes - funny
because I don't really love it either :/
Awesome Note is great, and doesn't work as seamlessly on AOSP as it does with TW, but the size is too tiny for my liking anyways, on Note II since it's optimized for Note 8.

Sketchbook note modding

I recently went to the samsung app store and picked up sketchbook pro note version with the spen button shortcut, I was under the impression when I picked it up I could mod the spen button to any shortcut I wanted and this is not the case. I was wondering if there is any way someone that knows how to modify it so that spen button would bring up the eye dropper tool, I use the eye dropper a lot for blending and would really appreciate any help ty

Try Clover Paint out. You can customize what the S-Pen button does (on contact, or while hovering). It's a pretty powerful painting app, and the UI requires a little getting used to. IMO, it's the best sketching/painting app on Android.
I do really like the way sketchbook work but I'm willing to give it a shot, you have a link?

Sorry for resurrecting that thread, but I bought Sketchbook Pro a few hours ago.
I've been playing with it and enjoying it, but was wondering about a few things that keep me from getting the full experience. Was hoping you guys could help me out or point me in the right direction.
1. In LectureNotes, the S-pen has this little dot on the screen where the pen points... Any way to enable this on Sketchbook pro?
2. Is there some way to make use of the S-button ? Would really love to use it like a one-time eraser as in LectureNotes.
3. The resolution seem really low... Zooming in just shows extremely blurry lines, as opposed to Quill or (again) LectureNotes. Increasing the size doesn't help... Any way to change that ?
4. And also block the canvas from resizing because of the palm... It gets pretty annoying.
If none of that's possible in Sketchbook pro, is there any that actually can do all that and is similar it?
Thanks in advance !

enable pen mode in the options will solve 1 and 4
what's the difference between the version in play store and the one in samsung store...
I bought the one from the play store
Pen mode is already activated, the only response my fingers get are the resizing and menu browsing... I searched every option (again) I could find, could not find anything related to my post above.
I don't know about the Samsung store version however, I always use the Play Store. But I doubt the versions be different.

Note taking app "selection to text"?

Im looking for an app that does something similar to what I've seen a windows tablet do which is to change the selected written data to text. As it is, S-note can only change writing to text *As you Write* which does not fit my needs. What I'm really looking to do is jot my notes down in class and when I get home be able to draw a circle around what I've written and have it post processed into text, not *As I'm Writing*. Do any apps do this?
Edit here's the video

With it, You can make handwriten notes and convert them later to text, per selection or the whole document.

Im surprised snote and premium apps like lecture notes dont have this functionality very dissapointing that I need so many different not taking apps for features the could be implimented into one... snote needx an update
I don't think many people will really need it. If it's a niche feature you're looking for don't blame every note taking app that doesn't meet your personal needs. You can send an email to the developer for a feature request/suggestion

Hi, long time forum lurker, first time post.
Image done in sketchbook pro
these are my best so far lol
This is my most recent, though I did many on my 2012 10.1. I have only done 2 on the new one so far.
Actually I will post both of the ones I've done on my 10.1 2014, why not.
Haven't really started to explore the artistic side of the Note and can't wait to start either tbh but this was my first attempt - not the best I know but a start anyways.

It's pretty similar to SketchBook in terms of what it does although it doesn't have the wider selection of fancy preset brushes. I've listed below a few advantages (and disadvantages) which made me use it more than SBP:
Pros:
- More layers on a 4K canvas. Depending on what tablet you use, you can have 16 layers even if you max-out the canvas size.
- More levels of undo and redo function (can probably go over 100 if you adjust the settings). I think SketchBook only has 10 levels of undo and redo. You can even undo layer merging in Artflow.
- More layer blending options.
- Smoother brush engine, particularly if you want to replicate pencil work. IMO anyway since experience is subjective.
- Awesome customer support. They actually listen to customer's problems and reply to you personally and quickly. And more often than not, will issue an update that will fix your problem quicker than the devs at Sketchbook Pro.
- More frequent improvement updates that introduces enhanced or added features.
Cons:
- No portrait mode.
- Fewer preset brushes.
- No Copic color presets (i kinda miss this the most)
Here's a few screenshot of the interface of Artflow:

No portrait mode? Thats kind of a biggy, I dont think I've drawn anything on my note 2014 in landscape mode, it just seems more comfortable in portrait for sketching... I'm surprised that it is locked to landscape, seems strange!

Yeah, at first it kind of bothered me too since i came from SBP. But i learned to live without portrait mode when i think of the fact that this is the same way i draw digitally on my laptop using a graphics tablet since i don't reorient my laptop monitor to portrait just to do portraits. But i think the devs are working on integrating portrait mode, it's just a matter of time before its implemented.

I'm back on the scene and will be researching the best stylus apps. I'll be looking for functionality and development of flowcharts, project design, to sketching vector and pixel based drawing.
Here's some of the regular free apps I always download (some may need root or sourced from maker);
Hackers Keyboard - Great for coders as offers near to desktop keyboard layouts. Like ESC, Ctrl, arrow Keys, etc.
DNS Changer - Allows you to change the dns provider, maybe making internet faster, and avoiding usage monitoring.
SyncMe Wireless - Allows you to sync directories with other computers. Example an eBook directory off your desktop.
AdAway - Removes commercials from Apps by cutting internet url access.
Link2SD - Allows you to manipulate Apps like moving them onto different partitions. Example pushing updated Apps back to their system partition so system wipes retain the latest version.
Droidwall - Iptable based firewall. Lets you choose which Apps have internet access, blocked at a system kernel level.
Good post m8 would also be interesting in paid apps ur also using if u got a min to post tnx

MyScript Stylus Beta works amazingly well!
While im absolutely impressed with the resolution and tracking of the capacitive stylus on the Tegra note, im dissapointed that no reviewer to date showed the actual level of resolution it was capable of. I would have still purchased, but i cannot write as small as im used to on the screen cleanly. The device wont cleanly track at that size and speed, only displaying "the gist" of my strokes. Does anyone have any suggestions for page by page note taking app that mitigates this? Really looking for an app where i dont have to keep repositioning the writing area manually, as it really disrupts the flow of writing.
I like Markers from the F-Droid Market. MyScript Stylus Beta is cool, but it seems slower than swyping in the Google Keyboard.

Markers looks strangely familiar, seems an updated version of the Tegra Draw app that came with my UK Advent tablet, has a zoom and move around page function, hand icon.
Tried Myscript Stylus and yes, found slower than swyping keyboard.
Been playing with Floor Plan Creator, have to pay to save out in various formats but otherwise free, works well with the stylus.
And of course Autodesk SketchBook I have the pro and nice drawing app with the stylus.
Just trying ArtFlow, good support for the stylus.
Still new to the Tegra and will add here as we go along, enjoying this tablet, would like a bigger screen tho.....
