Nexus 4 8GB for $450? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Would anyone in the right mind buy a Nexus 4 8gb right now for $450? I was a Sprint Note 2 fan and dumped it after I moved and couldn't get data. I found a guy willing to drop it off at my work still brand new wrapped.

The nexus 4 is an amazing phone but 8gb space for $450 is simply not worth it.

no. you're paying ~$150 more after shipping & taxes as if you were to wait for one from the play store.

I'm so frustrated over my Sprint Note 2 and using my Atrix 4G on Net10 is getting old. I'm selling the Note 2 for $500 tonight and never going to CDMA again. I will however continue dev work on my Sprint S3 so other users can unlock their CDMA phones to work on GSM.
##RANT
I'm tired of couriers pushing us around and locking fully functional quadband radios and loading their crapware on. I'm frustrated by couriers/OEMs keeping firmware/driver source to themselves which makes custom roms difficult. I'm tired of locked bootloaders and invalidation of warranties due to rooting.
No more I say, no more!
I'll pay the extra $150 and be happy

For the price I paid it was hand delivered to my office brand new and sealed. I'll use my infinitely faster Net10 ($50/month) HSDPA+ data with my 50GB dropbox and cancel my $150 a month terrible sprint service.

What does this even mean? They are only remotely close to LTE speeds in areas with DCHSDPA which isn't even in many markets compared to LTE roll outs.

I paid $400 for my 16GB but met the guy off Craigslist 54 miles one way half way. Phone wasn't brand new but looked it.
Should of looked a bit harder.. It worked out for me though as I sold my Atat galaxy s3 the same day for $400.

Cool story. Like I said you need DC-HSDPA to achieve speeds like that, and it isn't nearly as widespread as anyone's LTE.

Don't buy it. Wait for another offer with 16 GB. 8gb are just too less. You'd regret it.

In Germany you get new ones on eBay 16gb for $ 400.

This was talked about months ago Z. People thought it meant cell phones too but it does not.
I heard about it being laptop cards and mobile hotspots, not tablets as well. My Evo view 4g is useless now, wonder if a change like this lets me out of my tablet contract... I have the cheapest tablet data plan but I use a bit of 4g. No torrenting or anything like that but I feel kind of lied to. Stupid iPhone ruining everything for the rest of us.

Tis okay. It makes you wonder, are smartphone unlimited data plans next to go? I hope sprint sticks to their marketing campaign. Its the only thing I can brag about to my at&t/Verizon friends.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
If they kill unlimited cell data, not really sure where to go next. At&t is evil and doesn't care about it's customers and Verizon is almost as bad. T-Mobile will either flounder or become a fully owned subsidiary of at&t. US phone market really sucks. At&t and Verizon are making more money than ever and put all but the dregs straight into the pocketbooks of their investors.

Define 'mobile broadband'. Is that like tethering from your phone if you do it officially? I'm under the impression 'hotspot' would be more like if you have one of those wifi cards. Will the actual data through my phone to ONLY my phone still remain unlimited?
If not, Sprint is going to be in a world of hurt. This is the only thing keeping people there right now. Their service is okay, their 3G speed is pathetic. If they implement this before they roll out Network Vision, there is absolutely ZERO reason to stick with them. After Network Vision is a maybe, as then maybe the speeds will be something sort of useful.
If you pay for the Hotspot on your phone it has a 5GB limit and then throttles you down I believe. Mobile Broadband is a card you plug into a laptop to give you internet in any 3G or 4G area.

That's what I figured, thanks. Does the 5GB limit only apply while you're running the Hotspot app I wonder? Or if you have it, do you automatically default to a cap?

How exactly can Sprint tell whether you're using tethered data or not, if you're not officially paying for the service?

When you run the paid Hotspot it signs you into the network to verify you pay for it. At that time it must keep track of your usage until you sign out. We would have to see the terms and conditions of the $30 hotspot addition to be sure. But the also have hardware hotspots which I am sure the new caps are geared towards.

So since I pay for Hotspot on my ET4G, can I use that some then just use WifiTether 3.1 beta 6 (which works great actually) as a tradeoff? Also, if not downloading tons of ROMs, is this cap going to be easy to hit?

yup, its samsungs home turf so of course they will work extra hard there. I remember they had the Galaxy s II with HD screen while the rest of the world rocked 800x screens the whole lifespan of the sii.
and also, its impossible to keep up with tech these days, no matter what you buy within a month or so possibly you will be sad because something newer is coming out, especially with androids. just gotta live in the moment to enjoy! :good:

I'm really surprised at how far back the US in the phone world. It takes months for a new phone to arrive on main carriers once it hits international. The only way to get a new phone on exact release date is to use prepaid and put a SIM in an international phone.

Carriers using purposefully incompatible frequencies and tech (both voice, 2-3g data and LTE) as well as FCC are some of the reasons.

There is a quad core coming?? I haven't heard of it.
The LG phone going to Sprint and ATT is going to have the Quad-core S4. I'm sure those aren't far away for the other mfrs too. Unless you're gamer it doesn't matter anymore. These processors are fast enough for everything else. Smoothness in the UI is down to OS optimization now.

It says not compatible with mobile hot spot, I assume they mean tethering
when I was with Sprint it was the same deal, of course since I was rooted and simply got the wifitether.apk no problems at all.
Will this be the same thing?
I tether all the time, I assume anyone that needs the unlimited basically does as well.
Wonder if there will be anything for the monthly4g? Right now I have the $30 100min 5GB data, unlimited text. I need more minutes.

Existing customers can simply change their data plans, provided they are on Classic or Value plans (not Legacy or grandfathered, but that may change)
Tethering will be disabled on this plan similar to how it is disabled on the current 2GB data plan once 100MB is exceeded.
There will be NO option to add the $15 tethering & mobile hotspot feature add on to this new plan at this time. Customers wanting tethering will be advised to take the 5GB or 10GB plan instead.
As always, rooted devices will be able to find work arounds, which i would anticipate seeing an increase in customers visiting these forums seeking "one click roots" and then not getting the joke when they are redirected to the noob video...
Financially this makes sense for magenta as they have been getting squeezed at both ends; losing customers up to red & blue, losing them laterally to yellow, and also losing them down to MVNOs & their own M4G product.
Although i do not have any info on the new data plan being available for M4G, i would anticipate it NOT being offered.
With 500,000 postpaid losses lass quarter combined with 250,000 prepaid additions, there is a serious concern that this trend will continue.
There needs to be some substantial reason to stop the churn as well as migrate existing M4G customers to a postpaid Value plan.

Says on Tesco it dispatches within 1-2 days now, in email delivery is expected by 2nd sept. Could be earlier i suppose.
Anyone know what company Tesco Direct use for deliveries?

No idea what delivery company. It is possible that it will get delivered on 28th, since I'm sure they already have stock. However, estimated time is because if they dispatch 1-2 days from release day, it will take weekend to get it delivered.

Don't forget to use your favourite cashback site for another £5ish off.
Do you guys think it will be available in store? I have £20 off voucher from my last shopping, would be great to get it on day one.

I would guess they'll be with us tomorrow. Mine has already been dispatched from the main warehouse to UK MAIL so they couldn't change a delivery address.
Mine says it's still partially confirmed when I look at my order on tesco.com

Amazon MF3 Firmware

Anyone bought one from Amazon recently and received one with the older firmware? I just bought one today and am really hoping it doesn't come with MF3 (I may just return it if it does)

The longer people wait after the MF3 update came out, to get a device - the more likely you are to get one with it on. Getting one this far out, odds are high that it's going to have MF3. And seemingly, to me, returning it in an attempt to get one without MF3, you're SOL and it'll be a waste of your time and money.
It sucks, having MF3, but we'll get past it!
MF3 shouldn't be a HUGE problem anymore thanks to the new SafeStrap recovery, which works on MF3.

I actually cancelled my order and upgraded with Sprint. If this is the type of thing AT&T is going for, I decided I didnt want to be in a contract with them anyways.

Man you biffed! I bought one on Amazon last week for $108 on upgrade and it shipped with mdb, rooted and froze updater, upgraded to mdl, flashed Task650 Rom, etc. Etc. Google Edition here I come!

Do you have the link that you bought it from? I am also thinking of canceling my contract with AT&T & returning my new S4. This bootloader mess is a bunch of crap!

Not to sound like a ****, but the thread title states that this discussion is about Samsung Galaxy S4 purchased from Amazon.com. You have to view it from a desktop computer. The current price for a 16gb Galaxy S4 is $108 for a new line and $118 for an available upgrade. There's an activation fee of coarse.

He never said he bought it from AT&T that I saw. Amazon is like eBay. There's got to be a hundreds of resellers of the S4.

I just wanted a link where he bought the phone from off of Amazon. He stated that he received one with the mdl firmware still on it which would make it an AT&T phone. I know how much phones cost with each carrier.

Wound up swapping up to a 32GB, which came MDL. So I guess you increase your chances by buying a 32GB model, since they don't turn over as many of those. Probably holds true for any retailer.

Read the next post, I'm no longer on MF3.
Anyway, when I had MF3 I used this method for root and it worked fine
New Root Method for AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 (OTA MF3)
Have you guys tried swappa? I see at least that have either MDB or MDL for sale here: http://swappa.com/buy/samsung-galaxy-s-4-att/us
