Black clipping (2013 thread) news from samsung. - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Hi,
since i bought my note i discovered that it has black clipping issue.
The thing i've notice is that, if i set display mode to "film", in gamma test i can see up to number 3 (with a moderate predominance of red) and then black, instead of 4 and then black.
For this reason i assume that all our problem are based on a bad calibrate gamma but i'm a bit skeptical since some user don't have any problem.
all the thread i've found
There is some news, from samsung (after 14c oct) or supercurio? what do you think about a possible solution with upcoming JB release?

If you have your warranty why dont you go to a samsung service?

I sent mine back, got a new one from another vendor, the new one had the same issue. I actually have not noticed it for some time and watch alot of movies on my Note. I am using rocket rom v12.

Black clipping and blotches have marred Note since day one. Blotches can't be fixed as it's a "feature" of **every** Note's screen. My **fifth** Note also has blotches, but they are around the screen and not easily detectable. Black clipping can only be fixed in kernel: eg. Speedmod kernel has almost completely got rid of it.
Both issues have been discussed to death. If you need more info search Note and Galaxy Nexus forums.

Its a hardware issue. I have questioned many samsung service centers. It only happens when the brightness is low like in night mode. Otherwise its not appreciable.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

anyway i asked again on Samsung developers
if they were working on this issue, they should have CLEAR idea by now.

luckily i have the same problem

this is the reply of samsung:
Hi,
We have no further news regarding the update.
We will let you know as soon as we get any any information.

Its the hardware issue and note was a beta testing device for samsung. So the issue is resolved in note2. So obviously they wont be changing the hardware of note in warrenty.

What was beta? Pentile screen?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2

Its NOT hardware!.. It can easily be fixed if they really wanted to do it.. Try this app called Camera JB+. It comes with a Gallery. Try the gamma image test in that gallery.. Much better gamma setting or whatever..

That clipping is only in very low brightness or in night mode. Its not present at all at the brightness levels present by default. If u decrease the brightness further then only u can appreciate it.

the problem will be solved only if they will introduce the possibility of gamma tuning.

Green kinda hue on the screen

Has anyone noticed a green hue on the screen, its only just noticable.
I've got my note set on maximum brightness and i only notice it on some apps that i'm using.
Take using the XDA app. When scrolling thought the threads and forums i notice that the screen takes on a slight green hue when i stop scrolling and the when i start scrolling again the screen turns white again.
Is this a known issue or could it be just my note? Can anyone else test this and get back to me with your results and opinion please.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I do have exactly the same feeling on XDA forum pages when scrolling, and more generally a green tint... Slight but there... (And I had two Notes so far. The first one exchanged because of grey shades on the screen and the second one slightly greener than the first one). An I'm sure there isn't two screens alike...
I also noticed a big red splodge when using my camera. It was in low light n i pointed it a white wall. Check it out n get back.
Does anyone think there will be a fix for all these niggles?

I have had my note for a week. Try this: lower your brightness setting to a little less than halfway. Then open up a browser page that's all white. Now tilt the screen to the side in either direction, you will see the whites become green. Let me know your observation.

It does a little but that doesnt bother me too much. Its more the scrolling i was on about in some apps, mainly noticed it in the xda app. Doesnt matter which brightness setting i have it on, i still notice it in the xda app

Duno myn just went the more I used it
it's a software problem.
i've noticed the same thing happening to me, whites becoming green in hue while browsing. this issue is especially pronounced when browsing xda using the xda app, and so to determine if it was a hardware or a software issue, i screen capped instances of the screen being normal and being greenish.
result is the greenish hue was still present even in the screen capture. pics below are the actual screenshots and a comparison with raised saturation to better show the difference.

ok, i just tried it on mines, and yes its apparent. its like when you scroll, it becomes beige but as soon as you stop, the background becomes green. i would personally keep it because i think everyone has this. also, the next device might be worse. like on mines, at first i was annoyed about the white becoming greenish when tilting the device, but based on other folks reposes, it seems that everyone's does it, so i have decided to keep mines.

I got a big GREEN splodge when pointing to a white background. This is not a screen problem, it's a camera problem. You not notice only in the screen but also in the actual picture if you take it.
Found somewhere an explanation of this problem that is general to all kind of cameras that have the sensor to near the optics.
I think Samsumg has tried to solve the PINK problem by software, just trying to apply an opposite filter to the PINK, and that's why I getting GREEN

Interesting. Could this be due to lack of consistency in manufacturing? GSMArena said that their review unit is less bright than the one they previewed.
My device is bright enough. No problem at all under sunny conditions.
Hey guys, I think we all confused about what the real question is, i mean my NOTE 2 is bright enough too. but I think what he means is, the quality not the brightness. Honestly I have the same problem, when I compare my s3 to my note2, the s3 the color is more alive, for example, when you look at the icons in your desktop is not NEAT as the s3. When I had my s3 I faced the same problem, what i did was change my ROM but in this case, we have to wait until they release more rom for the note2.

If it bothers you or gets worse, return them under warranty? You probably won't notice that anyway under normal usage.
Maybe the lcd settles in a couple of weeks and they disappear!

Not so deep blacks?

I traded in my One for the s4 and one of the main reasons is because I honestly missed the pop of amoled, I remember how great the blacks were on my s2 and all is great on my s4 everything looks awesome and is vibrant as can be........ except when I pull up images that are mostly black....... it's not so "deep" and there is a brown tint. I mean it's still black, but because I'm ocdish with my phones I notice it and it bugs me. Is it something with my device? Just wondering if others have this? Not sure if attached pic will work because obviously you may be viewing from a device where all blacks are perfect

Did you do the ota update to mdl? That fixes black levels along with some other issues.
Sent from my SPH-L720
My first S4 had the color smearing. I got a new S4 and it has this same problem that you are having. I am sure that it is the firmware so get that update. When you're ocd hates the smearing, get screen adjuster and set it to 555. The problem you have now won't be fixed with screen adjuster.

I'm unsure what mdl is....? And Yeah I've checked for firmware updates several times and I appear to be up to date, I think they did that at the store before handing me the phone lol I'll try screen adjuster too thanks

Mdl is the latest build. Go to build number under about device. The last three will say mdl if you are on the latest build. If not that's why you are having this problem it is a software issue.

Never experienced such a thing on any other phone. I read about this update before but I had just assumed they took it upon themselves to update me at the Sprint store. Those employees know everything (lol). I can't believe how snappy it is now. This is great. I was contemplating taking it back and exchanging for the one again but not any more. Goodbye One.

Previous phone was HTC One. Wife has the S4. I've had nearly all the good ones. Its as good as the One or S4. Its different though. Build quality is great. Feels solid. Camera not great. Too many soft photos.
Best feature is active notifications. Changes the way you could use the phone.
Touchless working for me. After training, of course. I did have one fail on it, with "OK Google Now" in the car. Said it again and it came right up.

I like the One a lot. I didn't like Sense and converted it to Google Play Edition. Was pretty good on that ROM. Honestly, it wasn't what I didn't like about the One but what I like about the X (Active Notifications, Touchless Control, Moto Assist). Those additions are actually useful.
If I had to pick one thing about the One I didn't like, it'd be the power button. All the way on the top left. Had to re-adjust to turn on every time. Obviously very minor issue though.

As a right handed person the raised left would be no big deal.

Yea I would be concerned, only if I have a case it won't matter anyway.

As you use it more, can you report about real world battery life? I'm debating between X and Maxx. For me, 2 days on the Maxx is overkill and if the X comfortably makes it through 20 hours without looking over its shoulder too hard it's a win in my opinion.
