[FLEXIBLE DISPLAY][OCTO CORE CPU] The Future Is Here - Samsung CES 2013 Discussion - Galaxy Note II General

I don't know about you guys, but after watching the keynote with the flexible displays (44minute mark) and octocore CPU presentation I feel like I am in some sci-fi movie. I can't believe they made the flexible display so quickly and that it is so flexible. It's mindblowing! The concepts that they are showing are simply amazing.
For anyone who missed this awesome presentation this is a must watch:
Do you think the Galaxy S4 / Note 3 will get both flexible displays and octo cores?

"Do you think the Galaxy S4 / Note 3 will get both flexible displays and octo cores?"
500% that it wont get. S4/note3 will get full hd amoled and exynos 5 series, S5/Note4 should get octa+flexible.
I have remember first samsung hd amoled screens for note 1, they have released too early without proper testing. Who had note 1, they will know about black color ugly issue. But yeh this is innovation ;D samsung all the way

Don't be so skeptical. I think our Note2s will get flexible displays with a software update to Android 5.0

it is harder to break it, comparing with normal display

The are countless benefits with the flexible displays.
You could fold a 10" inch tablet into a phone and slide it inside your pocket!

If I was at Samsung, I would not risk putting flexible displays to any galaxy phone of 2013 bcz so far its just an eye candy concept, no one knows how it will behave once it reaches in the hands of end users, so why risk the galaxy s4 and galaxy note 3? Samsung should first launch it as a seperate samsung galaxy phone and check how the market trend goes, if its really successful, then they can start putting it from 2014 galaxy series.

You should watch the Samsung CES.
The battery is ofcourse not in the screen. :what:

Um in case if any one didn't notice but the flexible screen is actually bulkier than current amoled in my opinion.
It requires that brick like aparratus attached to one side. If you look at the phone they made it's so thick. if they really wanted to, phone companies can make a smaller phone and add a small strip of screen on the side so you can view storing when the phone cover is closed.
In fact, the thickness may be needed anyways to support touch with the flexible screen.
IMHO only
And the commercial they made was clearly cgi. It looked amazing but I still don't think you can bend youm at sharp angles or have it roll out straight without metal support to keep it from curving.
Oh snap! I don't have a witty tapatalk signature!

that's incredible. another few years for mass production?

What one should understand is it should be flexible. ..it is not going to be card thin. .... the screen will help it being shatter proof. ... though how the impact energy will be transferred to other parts of phone is also important. . .that's all needed for this year. .
.... .paper thin screens are for future

Suggestion to Samsung regarding screen size.

I just wanted to say that I dislike the trend of manufacturers making bigger displays. First jump was to 4.3" , then 4.5" and now we see a new HTC with 4.7".
In my opinion. Screen sizes above 4" becomes unpractical.
I love my Samsung Galaxy S. And the 4" is a reasonable size (since its light and slim).
I just want to encourage Samsung not to follow this stupid trend and hope that their future versions (sgs3?) will go back to 4" or even maybe smaller.
I almost agree, I think the sgs2 is just about as big a screen as I would like to see, any larger is impractical. If we wanted a NotePad, we'd buy one

Well technically the Samsung Galaxy Note is known to have 5.3 inches screensize so I guess they already went on the war to make the hybrid between 7 inch tablet and the smartphones.

I won't be buying a tablet, so I'd consider the Samsung Note. yes it's big, but some people carry a tablet and a phone anyway and this is a lot more compact than that option.
Anyway no one has to buy anything they don't like; Samsung is still making phones in different sizes.
Personally although I like 4" when used as a phone, I find it too small for browsing, gps and games. In this regard the note is a nice size. If I don't get a note, I'd be happy up to 4.5" for phone along with big bump in resolution.
They don't make it as 4.3"-4.5" unless most people like them, so as long as they make sgs3 as 4.3" or bigger if they see it sell best then that is their good decision.
You can wait your smaller screen for other phone than samsung galaxy s!

Once ics comes out the soft keys will be gone, so it will just fill in. So generally same size but less bezel and wasted space.
Think Tony Starks phone as eventual endpoint. Probably not see through though.

You know what's funny? Because of this quote it's better to make devices in every possible size. Each to it's own.

I just wish I will have enough money saved around April, May 2012 (my contract ends then) to get the Galaxy Note which in my opinion is a marvel, the only problem would be finding a leather pocket type case for it but for my usual use of mostly browsing and chatting and some video watching along with casual gaming it will be quite nice at 5.3" yet for phone calls I think I will have to get a BT headset to feel comfortable.
I absolutely LOVE this trend, That's long been one of my biggest wishes regarding smartphones!
I even tried to replace my then smartphone with the Galaxy Tab but it didn't fit the fanny pack that I *always* use. A 5.5"/6" smartphone would be ideal for me and I will definitely change my Galaxy S for the Galaxy Note as soon as it's out and off its peak launch price!
I think we'll see 4.5" in a similar size as the SGS with a much smaller bezel in the near future. I've seen R&D on more digitizers that will reduce the need for space on the one side (right now top or bottom has the digitizer support stick out 1/4" or so from the screen).
I agree 5" could even work with a headset, I use the wired one that came with my SGS it's fine. It wouldn't be for everybody but my pocket could hold a 5" device with a small bezel (and preferably a rounded back) just fine.
No **** jokes yet? I am impressed.
I prefer the screen size of the S II. A lot of times the screen of galaxy S just feels a little too small.

Why should we make fun of ****? The man never hurt nobody
I hope that they make a 4" and the 5.3". Between the two, the person should be able to choose. And hopefully the hardware is the same that you don't lose out by buying the screen. You can charge extra for the extra screen space but don't cheap out on the processor etc.
well for me ill stay till the new phone tht has rumored news of 4.5'' ,2ghz quadcore, very slim.i started wiv nokia the brick phone wiv antenna an tht was some dream phone those times everyone likd it tht way(no hightek)but i an all moved we never stickd to one piece atleast in my case..so its all abt style an future..may b soon wll use some holograph chip instead of touch phones
Agree with op, ideally I'd like a sgsIII which is same size as orig sgs, but with a screen the full size of phone. Shame it won't happen.......

LOL I think the maps app is probably one of the smallest problems Apple has. That will get fixed... But it's iOS is SOOOO dated. It's camera is now taking purple pictures and Apple says "you're taking pictures the wrong way" ... Doesn't that remind of you Antenna gate anyone? The bezel of the i5 is SOOO fragile. TONS Of people are scratching their devices! I'd stay away from the iPhone 5! I had 4 iPhone 4 because of quality control and they kept breaking, and I just got rid of it and got an Android device. I've had the same Note 1 for almost a year now, and I have 0 issues! I'm getting a Note 2 as soon as it breaks the 580 euro mark here in Europe. Not long Amazon.de has it for 590
I brought this phone in india 2 days back. I too find the display brightness not very bright when i keep it in max brightness and turn off the Auto Mode. Then tested with Flashlight app keeping the screen in full brightness, My ZTE Blade turns much brighter and Note 2 is not that bright.
Took it to Samsung Showroom and compared with Demo Piece kept there. The Demo piece is slightly brighter than mine but still not near to ZTE Blade.
That apart, i find no issues in Resolution et all. That appears Crispy than Original Note, inspite of Note 2 being less resolution! Thanks to the new pixel arrangement!
Phonearena Review says this is the brightest of all Galaxy Phone and says it even excels in outdoor! Wondering what version they got!
People are ridiculous...a demo screen is not brighter, and the iPhone 5 does not have a better screen. This is a classic case of people seeing and believing what they want to see/believe.
If you want to go get an i5....then go get one...don't try to come here and say, "well the iPhone 5 is brighter" cuz that (in all fairness) is bull crap. It also has a smaller screen, and a much more expensive ecosystem. Not to mention the hardware/software problems experienced. If somewhere in your brain you feel more like a tech buff with an iPhone, then get it.
And sorry...but a demo screen will not be brighter...that is ridiculous. So, your assuming that Samsung intentionally made the demo screens brighter. Yea, and 9/11 was a government cover up by the Illuminati. If Samsung had the technology to make their demo screens brighter, it would also be included in the retail variant.

as i've written numerous times: it all depends on your personal "luck of the draw":
seen more then 10 different devices (note1, but will be the same for note2) side by side:
every screen had a different brightness and or tint and or blotches.
this is absolutely normal due to the manufacturing process (lithography, nowadays fine
metal mask and laser-usage which make this better, but not totally good)!
if you want to have a perfect screen you'll have to swap through a few devices!
>> if you are happy with your screen then DO NOT COMPARE!!!
Compare with note 1 side by side then all the stupids ill get the answer and yes I m not apple fanboy
I can confirm this. I compare my new Note 2 with Note 1, and my friend's S3. Note 2 is dimmer, it's strange cause in GSMARENA review, Note 2 should be brighter.
Besides, I found the screen is way over too much sharpness, dont know why. It's still a beast to me though.
Battery life is awesome, I can get 6h on screen, compare to my old Note 1 and One X 3h on screen max

My brother owns an S3 and I own a note 2. When we put it side by side, his S3 does indeed look sharper than my Note 2. A tech savvy friend of mine told me that it was because the S3 has a smaller screen with the same number of pixels as the Note 2. Therefore, the S3 is sharper in that sense as there are more pixels per inch of the phone.
The Note 2 on the other hand is supposed to use an rgb matrix pattern as opposed to the S3 which uses a pentile display. RGB is supposed to be superior to the pentile method for color reproduction and sharpness so in that sense the Note 2 actually makes up for a bit of lost ground when compared to the S3 having more pixels per inch of the screen.
There's a detailed comparison here..
Anyway, thats about as far as I could understand from my friend but from my own personal experience, yes you will notice the S3 to be sharper somewhat when compared to the Note 2 but the difference isn't very glaring either unless you put them side by side and start nit picking on each part of the screen.

I have both devices and it's fair to say this is a spot on explanation, the Note 2 feels softer one tip is try reducing your ro.sf.lcd_density to 300 on the note 2 makes everything a bit smaller and a bit sharper IMO.
SIII does definitely look sharper because of the above said reason.
I like the note 2 screen better becaus it's not pentile and to me looks sharper then the s3 screen.

+1. To my eyes, the S3 screen doesn't look near as good as the Note 2's. I think the Note 2 has the best mobile display at this time. The only thing that could make it better is if it was 1080p with the RGB arrangement. Hopefully we get the bump in res on the Note 3.

Yea seriously are people getting different panels for their S3's than my previous one?
I had an international GT-I9300 S3, and before that I had the international GT-N7000 Note 1.
Out of the 3, the Note 2 is by far the best display, followed by the Note 1 and last would be my S3.
When I switched from the Note 1 to the S3, I immediately was a little disappointed, the S3's screen just wasn't as sharp as the Note 1 and the Note 2's display is far superior the the Note 1.
Tech OCD rears it's ugly head yet again.
The screen on the Note II is stunning. End of thread.

Thanks for us info bro
This is the first tablet news that has excited me since the 7.7 was announced!
It does "sound" tempting. But if the iPad Mini is in its sights then the price point will be the determining factor. IF they bring it to market at $400 or thereabouts...(depending on how Apple prices the "new Mini")....it'll fly off the shelves. Much more and only we "tech whores" are the likely customers.
The masses focus on price first and foremost. We small minority on specs. IMO of course.
I don't understand why it won't have a stylus. Even the 7. 7 would be complete if it only had a stylus like the s Pen. Also why not keep it at 7.7 just have a smaller bezel

The idea is probably to increase screen area without increasing the device's footprint, like they did with the S3 --> S4.
No stylus as not to step on the note 8s feet, but I feel samsung lost a good opportunity here, could have waited and released the note 8 with the full HD amoled screen.
Issue is, if the battery is too small then no go for me, I don't need a device that paper thin, up to 8-9mm is fine for me, as long as that extra space is used for a larger battery. I also hope this new amoled tab comes with better materials than the current tabs and samsung products, plastic is not nice and feels cheap, and looks cheap on the current samsungs.
If they make this with Amoled screen will be Killer..
One thing they should do is make it read NTFS format from stock.
Also adding a USB Host OTG port to the chassis would be a good feature...
Maybe
Sammobile has been speculating a Tab 3 8.0", and it seems that will have a AMOLED.
That would be nice, even more if its FULL HD.

Note 8 is not a proper successor to our beloved 7.7. I wish Samsung comes up with one soon.
Well had a good look at the new unreleased Note 8.0 in Hong Kong today..Looks good only tiny bit bigger than my 7.7
Showed the samsung guys my 7.7 running PA 3.15 and they couldnt believe when they looked at it and saw 4.2.2 version lol...
If it has Super amold screen then i think it will be killer.its running 4.1.2 out of the box.
was told it running qualcom processor not emmc..
asked about if it will Brick and they didnt know what i meant! lol...
either that or they avoided that question..
I'd say that the "successor" to the P6800 is the upcoming N5100 model. That's the Note 8.0 with GSM dialing capability. I'd like to see the smaller 7.7 form factor updated since it's more easily pocketable, but if my P6800 died I'd consider the new one. Negri is taking pre-orders now.
Well it's not going to be th Tab 3 either, based on specs. What is Samsung waiting for?

It wont come. Super amoled plus has some brand power as it is samsung works, but admittedly pls lcd or ips are taking over with more market share. Amoled save power when display black but guess what, it also consume more power when display white, the same in reverse order with lcd. It makes them even. But nowaday most websites are bright colour, so it is easy advantage for lcd. So another amoled device from samsung wont come. Another advantage Amoled has is visibility in direct sunlight. This is what tips amoled for me. I don't want to go back to lcd or something that I cannot view in sunlight.
No thats wrong. Amoled has better contrast and seems to be more colourful, but in terms of visibillity under sun light, lcd clear win (cause they use led lcd and consume more power). Its hard for amoled to see under sunlight but it is more colorful so thats a fake effect you got. Try under direct bright sunlight, amoled surely lose

Please spend some extra coin instead on donating to daniel_hk, our great dev

Galaxy note 3 size,don't worry

Hi guys I had a chance to hold a ZTE phone today which was 5.7 in size, and it felt really really good,I obviously have the note 2,and will be going for the note 3 on launch day, but I have to say even if it was slightly bigger, maybe 6.1 still will be OK,

I worry A LOT about its size because according to the most recent rumors it will have a 5.7" display while even the previously rumored 5.99" one disappointed me...
I think these rumors will turn out to be accurate seeing how Samsung recently made the S4's display slightly bigger than the SIII's while actually making the device itself "SMALLER".
I really hope they will offer at least 2 display sizes: a 6.3" one like the Mega (which I can't buy because of its too low specs ) and a smaller one which I really don't care what it will be...
a mobile phones should be small, so it will stick to your hand..lol, I have note2

A mobile phone should be the largest size possible which fits where I have *always* kept/carried my mobile phones/smartphones. 7" tablets are too big but not by much (a couple of years ago I tried the original Galaxy Tab 7" as soon as it came out but returned it), a Mega 6.3" would be more or less the perfect size for me. Eventually we will get there, I know it.
I have *always* wanted something like the Mega 6.3", even when people gawked at the first 4" smartphones or, later on, were saying that 4.3"/4.5" were "just too much"...
I think the market will coalesce around a couple of "standard" sizes: 5" and 6.5" (of course with small bezels, light, thin etc)

5.5 IMO is a bit too big to do certain one handed operatins, and anything larger then that would just be over kill.

I am not interested in one handed operation in the slightest. I have always found "irritating" trying to operate touch screen mobile devices one handed, even when smartphones had less than 4" displays.
Large displays may be "overkill" if you look at it (and use it) as a "mobile phone", I see it (and use it) as a "pocket computer" because, well, it is.

1+ I totally agree!
Sent From An Incognegro Galaxy Note 2
7 inch tablet and 6.5 inch phone may have almost the same screen size but ease of handling and using it is not comparable because in most cases phones have very small bezel while tablets have wide one. As stated before if Note 3 has 6 inch screen and is still not much bigger than Note 2 then there is no problem with handling, it would be even easier than Note 2 to use. All that aside, personally I have used 2 hands approach since I got Note 2, the only gripe I have with it is I can't answer phone with one finger without serious stretching... I think it would not be hard to code answering (or not) mechanism that looks like Pie control in shape but from right or left down corner, or even better when phone is ringing and you touch the screen, then from that point sliding left answers the phone, right denies the call (with sliding directions to be configured as you like).
Forgot to mention I have big hands, so this is why it wouldn't be a problem, unlike someone with average sized hands,

Mobile phone maybe but we are speaking about phablet
Actually, I'm not worried about the size of the Note 3. I'm actually disappointed. I was expecting 6".

Wow lol, I hope it's 5.7 inch but the same body size as the note 2 with the side and top bezel reduced. .2 inches is a noticeable difference.

Listen, if you make anything smaller than a 6.3" inch, I will get the Xperia Z Ultra. You will lose millions of sales.
Just been holding the Samsung mega 6.3, it's a great size, kind of thinking if the note 3 is not even 6 it will be quite disappointing, when you hold it in your hands and realise the thinness, it's not a big deal at all, I say 6.3 all the way.

I think it would be noticeable if you were moving, say, from 3.5" to 3.7". From 5.5" to 5.7" I'm not so sure it makes much difference. With the Mega 6.3", Samsung proved that the Note 2 bezel can fit a bigger screen without increasing it's size. I believe 5.7" is doable with the current bezel size and 6" with a minor increase in size. Maybe just a couple of millimeters more in width and height.

I had the S3 and the S4, you definitely can notice the difference between the 2 phones in use. It won't be a HUGE difference from 5.5 to 5.7 but it'll be noticeable. Same with the Galaxy S2, I had the I9100 that had a 4.3 inch display and also had the T-Mobile Galaxy S2 which had a 4.5 inch display. You could definitely tell the difference.
I think 5.7 inches would be perfect in order to keep a decent amount of ppi with a 1080P panel. 6+ inches would be too big, in my opinion

Yes, 6 inch would be nice. I'm also dissapointed if it is turns out to be true.

Let's just all calm down and take a deep breath, and perhaps agree to disagree on certain matters.
What people in this thread were arguing upon is called an "opinion", and as much as everyone is entitled to their own, you also need to be considerate of other's too.
Thread cleaned.

As taip pat! :good:
I dont need it to be 6.3 but if it is not 6" (or the 5.99), I will seriously consider just going with the Xperia as much as I love my Note 2 and loved the Note 1 before. I am keeping my finger's crossed!
more than size, I'd like them to fix the input lag.. so the actions will follow your touches instantly.. I'm one of those affected by it..
