Message from Asus about Jelly Bean on TF101 - Eee Pad Transformer General

Hi Jesus,
We have no plans at this time to release an official Jelly Bean update for the Eee Pad Transformer.
If you're comfortable with an unofficial, non supported update, you can try following along this thread and updating it to Jelly Bean:

Thanks,

I'm kind of amazed they pointed to XDA (or that their customer support was even aware of it). I guess I have to give them some respect for acknowledging that if nothing else. But I wish they would stop with the messing around and just say "never" if they are not going to do it. As long as they keep up with the "at this time" stuff it just holds back all of those of us who are reluctant to move from stock from getting on with it.

Don't tell me you guys actually think this is real, and ASUS is sending people to XDA to download JB ROMS. lol

What are your main reasons? I've been trying the RaymanFX and EOS 4, and they seem very similar (although with EOS 4 in some forms, the keyboard closes.
Thanks.

I've tried most of them and EOS4 is the only one that's stable enough for me to use, and it works very well. With others (including rayman's) I have random reboots, freezes, lag, etc. I suspect performance/stability issues might have something to do with the exact model you own.

I just think EOS is kept more up to date than Rayman's. Rayman publishes several ROM and sometimes he will left some of them without further update. Besides almost every Rayman ROM I have tried suffers from Wifi weak signal.
Anyway all of this is just based on my TF and personal feeling. You should try and pick the best one for you / your HW.
I also prefer EOS3 to EOS4. JB 4.2.1 (not EOS4, any JB 4.2.1 implementation) has some app incompatibility (not available on Play Store) that I don't like. And I find JB 4.1 snappier than 4.2.1. I have to oc my TF on 4.2.1 to get the same performance I get in 4.1 with stock clock speeds.

I'm on latest EOS4 nightly, #90, with timduru's recommended kernel and gapps from 01052013 and everything is great. I'm also using Apex launcher and Hacker's keyboard and not experiencing the minor lag that some are and my on-screen keyboard stays on-screen when it should.

Not really the same thing now, is it?? It's not their device that could get bricked.

I'm not surprised that ASUS sent them here. I had a friend call ASUS the other day about a TF101. We were trying to find the SN (which is impossible to do if the tablet doesn't boot and sticker is gone). The first tech said open the unit and here's how to do it (they sent a video). The next tech an hour later said we can't help you, you voided the warranty by opening it. It took a few persistent phone calls but the unit is being replaced under warranty. Over all, their tech support is pretty in touch. Just my experience.

I'm gonna try to port the tf300t stock ROM to the tf101 when i have time ..

I know it's not on Xda but just wanted to thank u guys for mentioning the ICS rom for the a500. It is by far the smoothest/fastest rom I've flashed on my a500. I'm just blown away at how great it runs. I could care less about the few things that need fixed. I'm now loving my Iconia. Thanks again.

No, he's got a ICS rom (Android 4.0). I'm running it right now and it's amazing. The best rom I've ever ran on my Iconia.
Yes he does have it I had 40 running for a bit but SPB shell doesn't run along with a handful of other apps I have bought ill wait till app developers get the kinks out..
He's been working on it since October I think so its pretty good Cam and vpn don't work as of now we need Acer to release alot to get everything the way it should be...

And you owe me personally, about well, a lot of beers. And not just any beer mind you, but I like really expensive beer
In fact, if one would calculate 12 beers per day @.5L per beer since the time he got HW Accel working, No green screens, and 85% of all functions working, you owe me about 457 beers, give or take. But I'm not greedy. I'll settle for an even 400 x.5L.
The Pure ICS rom 4.x, runs damn good. Only 3 or 4 things left. Most people are using it as a daily driver.
But now, "Iced" cube, if you don't come through with your wager, on open terms as you set, Well... that would be considered "welching" on a bet.
Welp, there goes my weekly wage...
I did say "a beer", not "a few beers"
'tis all good, i'll drop some money in the tin.
That aside.... Time to flash the ROM, then!

the random acore crash pisses me off the most.
if this is what CM9 needs to complete then i'll be over the moon. or even if we just get a beta ICS in TW form that would be good for the time being. tbh with a month to go before March i'm staying positive and hoping it's near finished. yeah i know probably not but i'm trying to stay positive
good news hope everything fixed
Of course CM9 even without the official source code is wonderfull. As for me, if Samsung will not change anything on his official release in March, i'll use CM9. Because after releasing official source code CM9 will be the great ICS ROM...

ICS -v- Task 14 /\ My Review

I have seen a lot of talk lately with people comparing the ICS development ROM's to Task 14.. I have been swapping back and forth almost daily between AOKP #23 and Task 14 Slim so here are my thoughts..
1st of all both are awesome ROM's that offer plusses and minuses depending on what each individual wants and needs.. These observations are based on MY wants and needs so opinions will vary.. The fact that Task 14, a HC 3.2 ROM even gets mentioned / compared to an ICS ROM speaks volumes about how good it is..
Things I like about AOKP #23:
--Browser hardware acceleration
--No screenshot soft key (I loathe that thing)
--ROM Control
--Ability to set # of homescreens
--Swipe to dismiss
Things I like about Task 14:
--Rock solid and stable
--Camera works for video chat
--Just as fast as ICS in many areas and faster in some
--Mini widgets
--Several awesome themes available
The AOKP is actually pretty stable for the most part and Roman and team have done an awesome job on it but remember it's a beta so there is issues and bugs at the time of this posting.. Task 14 is super rock solid and its really only limited by HC 3.2..
I honestly can't decide which I like better.. They both ROCK! I guess that's why I change between them daily..
A few AOKP issues I have is with apps and the screen.. Words with friends is a good example of this.. Also, the screen gets a little glitchy at times when viewing online images.. Nothing major and by no means a put down on AOKP...
I have had zero issues on Task 14 that are not widespread HC 3.2 related..
If you can live without the camera and are willing to experience a few minor bugs here and there then the AOKP may be for you.. If however you want rock solid with zero bugs, a working camera and a system that is just as fast then Task 14 may be for you..
These are MY thoughts and comparison of 2 kick a$$ ROM's... Thoughts and replies are welcome but please don't turn this thread into a pi$$ing match...
You're just asking for a pissing match. I'll just watch... for now...:sly:

I hope not since they are both awesome ROM's...
I've tried ics, very fast and smooth without touchwiz is a godsend. There is only one 3g ics rom so I have not tried romanb's yet. 3g is a big deal to me. Other thing with isc is no proper USB/mass storage support. It does not show all files that I've downloaded from net except whatever files I transferred to tab. Camera is another big issue for me, or lack of. Video does not work also from the rom I tried. Some apps on market not supported also so cant update. That's my summary of isc. HC3.2 on the other hand is improving. I have not tried Task as again no 3g. I'm a big fan of Alterbridge and his Overcome roms. Been using his rom since the original Tab. His latest 2.3.0 soup up with pershoot kernel is more than great for me. ISC is great but for my daily usage, its not ready yet.

I do realize this is XDA but I guess I hope we all will act like adults and that this mini review will help anyone who can't choose between these 2 awesome ROM's.. Heck I'm having a hard time choosing.. The OP was made on Task 14 and this post is getting made on AOKP..
Good comparsion between the two. Personally, I use Task14 with b00sted's ICS theme. No ICS can compare to it right now, but once the camera issue is solved, ICS will be boss.
All us Task fans are hoping for a Task ICS ROM soon.
BTW, good thread OP.
A Task ICS ROM will be awesome once it comes.. I'm back on the AOKP for this morning as least..
I think we scared off the ones that would have made this a pissing match. Good.

He is comparing what is available today. The OP is well aware that ICS is in development but he is looking for a daily driver and was looking for others opinions on what we use.
Until ICS is official there is no way to do a 1 for 1 comparison.

Easy you try them both and yes ics is alpha but thats what is available now and is the point of this thread. I came to the same conclusion as the OP after using both kang versions. the arguably incremental improvement in smoothness does not outweigh the full functionality goodness of galaxytask

Even though it is supposed to be alpha (since the Camera mainly does not work and there are also some minor bugs), it is quite stable for daily use as I myself use it and the best part is there are some amazing customisation options ..... literally mind blowing!
Thanks for the review. Still haven't custom rom'd it up yet.
When does the official ics come out?
i have found that the battery in the latest ICS kangs (not the one on XDA as that doesnt get updated! but the one on rootzwiki) is by far lots better than any HC.
So indeed for an alpha release ICS is looking very good compare to an already establish HC rom.
So I can only imagine how good ICS will be when SS releases it...hopefully in April..
bit OT interesting that there are no leaks yet from samfirmware!

[Poll] Best Rom for the Xoom

Receiving a used Xoom soon and was reading many many forums on Xoom roms and want to see what people are using. I would like ICS of course, not really concerned with overclocking. I run AOKP on my Galaxy Nexus and never have looked back. But not sure the best route for the Xoom.. To be honest, most people use EoS, I think.
However since a couple of weeks there has been a huge battery sucker in it
CM is also one of the most popular roms, but I prefer EOS or the Bugless Beast ROM.
However the latter has come to a standstill due to some personal issues of the developer, still: it runs amazingly smooth without need to over clock!
All the other roms are okay, I guess, but I can't help you with those
Just my two cents ;-)

I have been running AOKP on my XOOM for some time now. I really like all the extra features. However, I think that what the Xoom really lacks in development is a Kernel. I have been spoiled with Faux123 on my Galaxy Nexus. But the kernels I have been using on the XOOM have been outdated. Anyone have a kernel recommendation?

AOKP ships with stock kernel right? EOS and Rogue are usually on top of keeping their kernels up to date. EOS kernel is tiamat and there's a thread somewhere around here for it and Rogue.
Edit: Better yet get this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.s0up.goomanager
Its GooMamager. Browse files and under kernels there's are a ton that claim "Compatibility". I think the ICS kernel is very unified. Goomanager will also notify you when your ROM is updated, and as long as you have an open script recovery, Goo will download the Update and make a backup in Recovery (with rename prior to backup) wipe/wipe cache and install new update then reboot almost like an ota. So easy now. Also notifies when gapps updates. I guess its the new ROM Manager.
Anyways at the bottom of the kernel list is Rogue with what looks like an up to date kernel.

I am currently using Invisiblek's Gapps found here: http://www.invisiblek.org/gapps/
Obviously thank you to whomever is working on the Flo CM11 Official ROMS and the entire CM team. You guys are awesome!! I am not taking any credit whatsoever, just trying to get the word out!! Whomever the developer is that is actually working on this please make yourself known to get the recognition. I am excited and look forward to further builds!!!!
CM is the best!!!!!
Added bonus.. [4.4/4.4.x][PATCH] Qualcomm-optimized Dalvik & Bionic libraries
These really do work.. installed them on my VZW GS4 and also now on my N7 Flo for a performance boost.. Who needs ART? Link is for the OP, I had nothing to do with these either.
Antuntu: 24220 Quad: 9585 (on N7 Flo with 12/30 Nightly)
I have been CM fan since CM 6, it has been my absolute favourite rom on all my nexus devices.
UNTIL RECENTLY...........somehow they decided to stop using aosp and made their own code, it is incompatible with most of the kernels out there, leaving us with very few choices. =/
Also I find it a little odd that you are posting this after like 2 months lol.
Can anyone get otg to work?

I've also been looking for an official thread for a while.
I'm ruining cm11 m2 and I've been experiencing a few issues and I'm wondering if
they are happening to anyone else and if they are fixed in the latest nightlies
1. Random reboots(rare)
2. Keyboard weirdly unresponsive
3. 6th dockbar icon won't set.
4. Don't remember...
I haven't seen any issues like that so far. Will keep an eye out though.

1. This has happened to me occasionally. I'm trying to figure out how to capture logs of what was happening to cause it.
3. This is a GEL/Google Search for tablets issue, it's happening across all ROMS

I don't know whats happening to everybody..
really i think CM is overdoing it.. i can't remember the last great feature they added..
and they take a real long time to release a stable build.. maybe people decided to stay with
root stock rom and use the xposed framework with gravity box.. and maybe a custom kernel.
Last time I was running CM11 the audio would periodically freeze/buzz while watching videos. Can anyone confirm if this is still the case?

I think uoure right. Maybe people have some afraid to root their devices.
Im still like CM always did. Theyre the best in custom roms.
Lets keep this good topic live. Thank you all.
I'm actually surprised that this thread is this short :| been on cm11 just yesterday and i've encountered 1 lockup, dozens of audio/video glitches with mx player
The buzz noise is directly related to the kernel.
Flash glitches new kernel v121 or newer and it'll completely disappear.
Just fyi, there is maybe 1-2 that work on the devices, kinda a **** move to complain about stable releases. Just because it's goggles new x.y.z Doesn't even mean that piece of crap is actually stable.
With that said since day one of nightlies minus kernel buzz, it's been rock solid. WiFi only here though.
I'm using the 4-21 CM 11 nightly and it works great. ElementalX has a CAF kernel now which is a huge plus. I opted to try the beta Xposed Framework that is CM compatible and so far so good. I added Gravity Box as well to get a working PIE function as well as a few other extras. No complaints from me. CM 11 for Flo has come a long way.
Note: Trying Xposed and Gravity Box may or may not work for you when running this ROM. I recommend having a Nandroid backup in your recovery just in case you try them.
I don't know why but no caf kernels work with my official cm
I even tried aosp kernels with no luck
