[Q] Software Buttons - Wrong Function - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So on my Nexus 4, running CM 10.1 Nightlies, I have a strange issue with the software buttons.
When the "menu" button appears in 'legacy' applications that lack an on screen overflow menu, instead of a single tap on the navigation bar menu button opening the menu, it opens recent apps. A long press however, opens the menu. This has been the case since I flashed Cyanogenmod, and was actually the way I customised the button set up on my previous Nexus S. I presume, somehow, that the preferences have been transferred, and although functional, it is a tad annoying!
I waited to report the issue till the Navigation Bar customisation options had been merged into CM, but I can't fix the issue using the options now available. Also, I'm not accidentally hitting the recent apps button, I don't have huge fingers.
Anyone got any ideas? Much appreciated if you can think of a way of fixing it without wiping the thing and starting again...Or even if you just have an idea how the setting transferred!

No-one got any ideas? Damn...

Menu Remap Mod?

On my Evo LTE running CM10 the recent apps button on short press opens settings and long press opens recent apps. I like this function vs having to have a shortcut on the desktop or getting to it from notifications. On most newer phones/tablets running ICS/JB there are mods that remap this function but I've not seen this anywhere for the Nexus. I"m running stock but rooted and would prefer to stay that way if i can. Does anyone either know how to do it or if there's a mod floating around that i was unable to find using "search"?
I would also love to customize what app is opened when sliding up from the soft keys, if that's related.

No that's not exactly what i'm talking about but i would like to do that as well. If i understand correctly if you hold any of the software key/button (IE back, home, or recent apps) and slide your finger up there is a dotted circle with google search button at the top. If i could place the settings app there that would get me by. As for now when i hit the recent apps button i would prefer that to be the settings button or being able to long press the button to open settings. I think what i want is a limitation of the launcher but who knows. Anyone who does have any idea how to do this please let me know. I did attempt to edit the keys file in system/usr/keylayout by trying to add an extra key for settings but it didn't work.

[Q] Can't find Within-Application Menu Button/Softkey?

I hope I'm not being a noob over this.
Having used Android (phone) for ~2 years (installing custom roms, etc etc), i thought I was up to speed on the ways of Android, however I'm stumped over one aspect of my newly purchased Nexus 7 32Gb + 3G.
When I open some older apps (probably those not "optimised for Android 4.2.1 at the time of writing) like Twitter Version 3.5.0 - I do not see anywhere to click/press and access the features i normally found under the "menu button" (which typically allows access to "settings" / "accounts"). My current phone (android 4.1.2, custom ROM) has hardware keys so maybe there's a gesture/config that has passed me by. Anyway I can see in other apps like Google Currents I have three rotated ellipses (top right of screen) that gains access to "menu" (and application settings). Another app, FaceBook, adds a soft key to the bottom left of the screen (again rotated elipses), aloong side the other soft keys. So my question is - is Twitter just a badly designed app (and i should seek another), or is there some technique to gain access to the (config) functions I have normally found underneath the menu button.
Like i said, apologies for being a noob...have googled/searched forums with little/no result...any/all advice welcomed.
Thanks.
Try another Twitter app just to make sure, but what happens if you hold down Recents (button to right of Home)? I know that on my gf's HTC One V (which has hardware keys as well, Android 4.0.3), to get the Menu options to pop up with certain apps she has to hold the Recents key, and Menu items pop up. It's a stab in the dark, worth a shot...
Touch the 'Me' icon on the top edge. Touch the 'gear wheel' on the left edge in the middle. Choose 'Settings'.
thanks for the responses the Me / gear wheel solution worked...!! buried deep!

[Q] Menu button randomly doesn't work - only at homescreen?

This happens quite infrequently, but when it does it's a real pain. Once in a while I cannot access the main menu when hitting the menu button. The really odd part is that this only happens when I'm on the homescreen. If I can't access the menu, but go into an app, I can access the settings menu or whatever pops up for that particular app when hitting the menu button. Sometimes if I directly open the settings menu through the app drawer I can kickstart the menu button by then using the volume up/down buttons, but not always. In that case my only recourse is to reboot the phone.
I'm on a rooted Canadian Rogers Galaxy S4 running BeanStalk-4.3.1015-20131028-jfltecan ROM and ktoonsez 3.4.68 4.3-AOSP-TMO-11.04.2013 kernel. Although I've had this issue pop up with other ROMs and kernels.
Funnily enough when I went to check the ROM and kernel info, the menu button wasn't working...

OK, so I have finally managed to narrow it down. The culprit is DashClock. If I use the default lockscreen the phone is fine. Enable DashClock and as soon as I unlock the menu button is dead when on the homescreen. Not really sure where to go from here with this. It doesn't seem like I'm running anything weird here so why this is such an isolated case is rather baffling.

Navigation bar doesn't work ONLY while flashing ROM

Hello guys!
Lately I'm observing a strange problem. When I flash a new ROM and it boots up, on the setup phone screens, after entering my google account details, the navigation bar doesn't work. I'm talking about the screens that are shown in the attachment.
So I can not select the apps that I want to restore. I've to go ahead with installing all the apps again. Once the restoring process it done, I do not have any problem with the navigation bar. (I can also use the button in landscape mode). But I'm confused why is this happening while flashing a ROM only
I've tried with different ROMs.
Has anyone faced such an issue?
I noticed a similar thing. The menu for restoring pops up in a full screen mode and it is actually under the navigation bar. It turns out that there is a little spot in that menu where you can just tap through to the "OK" button. (Try tapping above the OK button when you're done with selecting your apps).

HELP! Home and Recent Apps key appears with a slight delay when unlocking phone.

So I just got gravity box and was messing around with it. Found the custom nav key setting which I found pretty cool. But after enabling it, I find that the home and recent button on the nav bar would appear with a slight delay after unlocking the device from sleep. The Back button would behave normally...only the recent and home button. I tried wiping cache. disabling Gravitybox and disable custom nav key. Problem still persists. help
