Ubuntu for Galaxy S - Galaxy S I9000 General

So I was having a look at Ubuntu being released for android devices..
It was just mind blowing that i got so excited whether our devices will get it or not..
What do you guys think?
Is there any hope to get Ubuntu running on our devices?

Hope so
Verstuurd van mijn GT-I9000 met Tapatalk

I'm sure, Ubuntu will be able on our phone. Even Android 4.2.1 was ported, Ubuntu needs the same drivers. So, why not?

do we have that dock and hdmi output support on our mobile?

I doubt the Galaxy S will get it officially, but someone could port it.

We will get it

The I9000 sadly doesn't support HDMI output, so that can't happen.
Well, there has been some discussion whether or not the phone hardware is capable of it, but I think that too was shelved...

also think our phone wont get it officalialy it was said something about dual core need or smthing,
but it look slick and cool. Even worth of buying new phone for this ^^

I personally think a single 1ghz core is enough to run ubuntu.
but the hdmi output is the only problem..
And @omegavesko
I'm damn sure we're not going to get it officially

Ubuntu phone OS looks promising and i love ubuntu ui looks better than android ui.. Couldn't wait to see...

There's Ubuntu for tablets, why not for sgs1? Just a good developer to port it is needed.
There's USB-hdmi-adapters for our beloved sgs1, so thats not the problem
I saw Ubuntu on tablets and it looks really good.
Hope ram and CPU is enough

On Ubuntu page, they write that the phone needs at least 512Mb RAM and a 1Ghz CPU...just what we have.

Have you actually seen those adapters in action? The rumor that we could use them was started by Samsung adding the item to the i9000 accessories page along with some bogus claim by a Samsung representative we would get to use it... Truth is our hardware doesn't support HDMI output.

[Video] Jelly Bean Running On The SGS3- Just for fun

Hey everyone Took a little video of the the Galaxy Nexus Jelly Bean port for the SGS3 running on my SGS3. Thought some of you might be interested in checking it out.
Tried that out ... it is a nice functional port but can't use it as a daily driver yet. I wanted to give it a try if the data worked either at wife or medianet
Anyway, it was a great work from developer in making us get a preview of what it will look like on our device.

I wonder why no dev try to amend the stock webtop
many of them just use linux.......
that is linux base, then android, then linux again....
I used ubuntop, wich is the only "usable" webtop imho.

The ubuntop file size is too large.
Is there any dev make a 200mb file size ubuntop?
You must use webtop2sd to run it.

To summarize the thread.....................
What alternatives to webtop are available?
Ubuntop! But Because of it's larger file size you must use webtop2sd.

what would you improve in gentop2 actually? it all works... the next step would be to get new drivers (which we obviously cant get) and update the system to hardfloat (if possible, i think due to android being softfloat that is out of the question)...

Ioidroid development team

OK, so
I am looking to setup a development team. For the galaxy s3 and most other devices.
I am looking for ALL experience levels, whether it be that you have never developed before and would like to learn to the point where you could develop android from the ground up
I am looking for a truly multi skilled team of developers.
If anyone is interested please let me know, either PM me on XDA or Reply to this thread
ALSO you dont have to want to develop it may be that you can offer Web Hosting etc, any suggetion is helpful so if you want to be involved please mention it
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium HD app
I'm interested, but could you tell us a bit more about what you want to develop?

How far through the java process are you with applications
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium HD app
This sounds interesting.
About me: I've been writing Java for about 3 years now. I have experience in app development (a few small apps for personal use and a team developed game). I was also a co founder and leader of a small Android dev community of ~30 developer so I'm no stranger to working in a team either. I have some free time and could probably spend ~5-6 hours a week on this project. Let me know if I can help.

I would be interested in joining, I have no dev experience (pulled aosp source and built ICS for galaxy nexus and boot 2 gecko for gnex too, but that's not much good to you really) starting software development in college next week and have been doing a bit of studying on my own in java and C.
Was a kernel tester for a good while on nexus s too.
If I will be of any use then count me in!

Sounds like a few root operations and some busybox. That's not too hard. If you find a second coder (maybe one that has some experience with creating GUIs), this can be done rather quickly.
Does this require that I use your rom or would testing be done by someone else? I'm on Omega at the moment and don't exactly have plans to switch right now.

Dosen't ubuntu require a dual core processor?
It requires a cortex-A9. Technically there could be a single core A9 but as the A9 is a lot faster than the Snapdragon (scorpion core), there will be a lot of stuttering I expect.
And what is the point of who will be the first to port x product to y device posts? It doesn't really serve any purpose.
Personally, I don't think this port is going to even happen.
Ok was curious. Didn't know it needed certain specs.
