[Q] So, what happens when the battery dies? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm not really sure if the battery is replacable or not. It's not as easy as with other smartphones, but it is possible, right? You just have to careful to not break some wire.
Because otherwise, what could I do if the battery would die? If it wasn't replacable, I mean. I've read somewhere that the battery inside the N4 has 800 "cycles".

Uh, well, like ANY OTHER PHONE with a "non-removable" battery you have two options:
1) Buy a battery, crack it open, and replace it.
2) Send it to the manufacturer and have them replace it.

If under warranty then have it fixed. If not under warranty the either take it to a repair shop and have it fixed or fix it yourself by replacing the battery or buy a new phone. There is a video that is very good on disassembly of the nexus 4....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZDAIgwbXk4

Well, nevermind then. It was a stupid question.

Not a stupid question just one with some simple answers. It does not (according to the video) seem like it would be hard to replace the battery but it may be hard to get a new battery.

Hi
The do it yourself approach isn't that difficult, a good take apart video is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZDAIgwbXk4

Yeah, that might turn out to be a problem. Certainly because the Nexus 4 isn't a very popular device. Not much reason to make spare batteries.

Oh, I think LG will keep some on hand. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll use the battery in more than one phone.

It's still not nearly as popular as the GSIII or the One X for example, even if LG would've produced more. Everyone looked weird at my Nexus S, as they would at a Nexus 4. They just don't know it exists.
It is a VERY popular phone at a community like XDA. But the "normal/mainstream" customer doesn't know about it, and will never buy one even though the price is ridiculously low.

Who cares? Quality > Quantity. I don't idealistically want a phone that everybody else has. It's popular within the developer community, that's what matters to me. They wouldn't of thought your Nexus 4 is a Nexus S because Nexus S sold less than Nexus 4 most likely.
Why wouldn't they buy the phone? T Mobile is praising subsidized devices on their carrier and will be offering marketing within their stores.
One X is also not a popular phone with HTC on the decline.

I don't care. Just stating the facts. Nexus devices will never be as popular as other smartphones, even if they are better and cheaper. They were never intended to be popular.

What is your point? I'm saying I don't want a phone that every body else in their damn world has. No body would mistaken the N4 as a NS.
Nexus 7 is a popular device. Nexus is coming itself as its own original brand.

Misunderstanding what. You're confusing me. You're pointing that the Nexus device isn't a popular device compared to a S3, iPhone. I agreed with you, PERSONALLY in my experience, I don't want a phone everybody in their world has or know what it is.
Being a popular phone is very subjective anyway. In the developer community or android hard fan base, it's a popular phone. The average user only knows of Droids, Galaxy S#, iPhones, Blackberry.

Everyones moaning and crying about the nexus one being outdated by newer phones such as the incredible and the evo but technically they're all outdated since the htc scorpion is going to be "whats hot". Its really annoying how some of these people are so concerned about being outdated. Appreciate what you have and make the best out of it.
I think
The nexus is still the top phone, which is why I ordered one yesterday even with all the new phones out, this is my reasoning.
Even with a1.5 processor, our nexus can be clocked to a stable 1.2 at least, and with that speed I font believe a phone actually Needs more because my nexus already flys.
That's just my input on this outdated deal.

If you always MUST live on the "Bleeding Edge" with the best of everything, you will run out of blood and run out of money.
The way I see it, living always on the newest hottest thing out there are for the people with more money than brains.
Yes, I have a Nexus One, I bought it BRAND NEW, but my total out of pocket expense was $140.00, because I sold or traded stuff I had, but stuff I could sell to get the money I needed to get this phone.
So it would not be worth it for me to try and get the next new hot thing out there because I love my N1 and would be hard pressed to see something pass this one up.
I have played with TONS of new android phones that are not out yet (MyTouch Slide, what a joke) and NONE of them are anything that even gave me a slight twinge of wanting to jump off the N1 scene.
these threads are lame... and obviously started by people who don't even own a nexus one.
TotaL BS News...
From a Nexus owner perspective the future is not about slightly better hardware, but about adding real value to the OS.
As far as my Nexus will be updated to any future Android releases I´ll have the better phone out there...others will always have to wait for Google´s compasion.

If that’s what turns you on then fair enough. I maintain the best reason to get a Nexus One (if you accept you eventually have to plump for some phone instead of holding out forever) is that if Google does something cool it’ll pretty much definitely come to us first. And more than likely before everyone else.
But that’s just me, I’m more of a software fan.

If you are referring to me and this thread, you’ve not read it properly. Please see above.
If you are referring to people I criticised in my original post, then I think they probably do own a Nexus One, and become incredibly defensive about it. The people that don’t own one tend to just post saying how they are not going to get one and then their reasons. You can tell because the whole post usually smacks of someone trying to convince themselves of something.
I thought the Scorpion was rumored to be a tablet anyway.
BigDamHero said:
And yes for everyone debating if the Incredible or the Evo mean the Nexus is outdated you can all relax.
Because they are out of date now too – search for HTC Scorpion.
.... which I expect to also be superseded around about tea time.
It’s a point that’s been made in other threads – but you CANNOT keep up with new tech (especially phones). You’ll end up financially ruined if you try. So we can all stop going on about it now and just enjoy our Nexus Ones?

I said almost the polar opposite.
Anyway the HTC Scorpion, IF all the rumours are true will have a faster processor (1.5Ghz). Just search the name for references (as I said in my original post). Given how people are positively suicidal over a slightly better camera on the Incredible, I imagine this will not go down well. Its only a few rumours at the moment.
What I’m basically saying is the N1 is amazing and in no way obsolete just because something newer is out. There ALWAYS will be. So lets not live and die over newer phones that are going to come anyway. Thread after thread of it. Lets just bask in the glory that is the N1. Again I say see my previous posts.
I’m not trying to troll, just posting my viewpoint. What’s disturbing is you are potentially the second person to accuse me of exactly what I am criticising.

This whole thread is dumb; even with the Scorpion coming out HTC is working something to make the scorpion obsolete. Being obsolete doesn't make our Nexus any less awesome than it is.
Wow, they ALL totally missed your point. You were basically telling people to stop complaining about the Nexus One being obsolete. And they all jumped on you thinking you were the one complaining.

Whose considering a Synapse Phone

With all N1 alternative threads, I'm surprised I haven't seen the synapse phone mentioned more, so I thought I would start a thread
I am quite heavily considering it. Tho I think I wanna wait for series 2, just to make sure custom rom community is there. Being rooted and unlocked bootloader from factory. But I think I should buy one to ensure there is a series 2
So who else is considering one of these synapse phones? To maybe replace their N1

Man that seems like such a good idea....
The first day someone posted about it on gizmodo or something, I went and looked at the prices. I "built" a phone using all of components that would put it above similar phones spec wise, it was going to cost about $900 USD.
Considering I spent my entire summer savings on my Nexus One ($580 + ~$20 for screen protectors, case, etc = $600) It's not necessarily a good or bad value. If I had that type of expendable income, I would totally go for it!
The concept is cool though - make a phone that caters to your needs. I wish an American company would try this! Maybe Google? "Nexus 2 - Have It YOUR WAY!"

It's an interesting idea - I won't be in the market for a new phone until September 2011 so will keep an eye on them until then. That should be enough time for them to succeed / fail.
I like the idea of a 3 year warranty..
sounds like a good idea, but they are being jackasses, 256mb of ram as the basic mode want more ram? well pay up, which is just plain 2008 or wifi, 3.5mm as options when these are basic necessities for a smartphone.
Seems more like a dream idea than an actual production device

I was enamored of the N1's appearance when it first came out, but not so much any more. The NS is much "sexier" in my opinion.
Why do you want an N1 now? It's over a year old in design, and has some serious hardware flaws in my opinion. The display and especially the touchscreen and capacitive buttons are all problematic in one way or another (can't see screen outdoors, can't do multitouch accurately, capacitive menu buttons misaligned.) The camera also puts a nice pink blur on every pic you take.
If you can get past those hardware flaws, it's not a bad phone otherwise. The sound quality is good on calls and the 3G speeds are really good. There's also a ton of software support with custom roms and mods and other hacks.
Surprised you could actually find one "new" this late in the game.

New Device:Suggestions?

Hello all,
I'm planning to get a new device.
Is nexus 4 good on hardware given that it's made by lg?
Should I buy htc one x+ or galaxy s3 instead?
What are your recommendations?
I can afford upto 30k or 550_600$.
HTC One costs around 43k,if you can afford that much then I would really recommend it.Nexus 4 would be a good choice too.
Oops I meant to say htc one x+

Build quality?
Yes
Then Slymobi must have something to say about it.Nexus 4 to me looks good, has a much better build quality than any of the Samsung devices.
I'd go for the N4. Purely because your getting a pure google handset, with new updates guaranteed (unlike HTC. Who sometimes cancel or don't even bother to update devices), you'll also get something that's easy to BL unlock, root and experiment with. And being a nexus device, I'm sure there would be a lot try out!

The build quality is just great! Just the speakers and the camera are not as good as the HTC one's. I had both phones One and Nexus and this glass look looks just so much better than the "plastic" from the HTC One X. And it's also easier to root than the HTC phone. It was a pain in the ass to root the One X and to flash ROMs on it. The Nexus is definitly the better choice also in relation to the money,
I'd get the nexus 4. I already have a nexus 4 and it is brilliant. It feels more premium than the galaxy s3 and the htc one x+. Plus it is easier to root and will have excellent developer support. You also get the newest updates from Google themselves.
I have the one x, great device, doesnt feel "cheap" at all, n4, while having more "premium" feeling also can break more easy so keep that in mind.
Also, hox is easy to root, dont know why is everyone saying its hard lol.

Ive seen it. Frankly Id prefer android!
The hardware of the N4 is amazing for the price. Fastest phone I've ever used for sure. For value/speed, nothing comes close.
The glass back is fragile so just make sure you purchase the right protection.
Jellybean 4.2 is so good you could use it without the need for rooting

Never happened to me...strange. I think the 4.2.2 update solved this issiue for the most people. I think that happens to maybe 1 of 1000 N4 devices. And if yours is affected you can send it back and order a new N4.
You can still choose the HOX its also a nice device and it has almost no bugs but its got that crappy Tegra processor which seems to be not very familiar with the android system itself and some Gameloft games.
