Wifi wont turn off in sleep mode

Hi Guys,
I got my HD2 today and i have to say i am impressed!
I only have one problem which i am not able to resolve.
When i turn on WiFi, it wont turn off during sleep mode (when i turn off the screen). i need to manually turn it on or off. this is how it came out of the box.
I wonder if other HD2 users are having the same problem / found a solution?
I tried advanced config tool, and i unchecked the "wifi during sleepmode" setting, but after each reboot the settings just come back.
Any help would be appreciated.
Hi mate, you should look this

I thought that guy just want to keep WIFI on but you did.
thanks man but it does not help me with my problem. I cant seem to be able to get WiFi to auto turn off when in standby. the reg tweak will work until you reboot the device. after reboot the WiFi again won't turn off when in sleep mode unless I manually turn it off.
Bump.
Can any other HD2 owner please confirm if this is happening on his device too?
Same problem.
HDtweak and AdvanConfig does not work. After soft reset, wifi-on-standby is back ON (checked).
Been trying to find a Auto-Disconnect for GPRS(HSDPA) but the above 2 apps does not work too.
have you tried to change wifi power settings to high? I think it does work then. I guess the medium setting is something special...it keeps the wifi connection alive in standby, but also doesn't consume much power. I have an exchange connection active, so i always need an internet connection. The moment i turn on wifi at home, it stays on, even in standby, and my data connection over 3G disconnects. My exchange still works perfectly...and no huge power drain! My wifi power setting is on the medium setting...
Yes, I can confirm I'm encountering this issue too - on my HD2.
Strange, 'cos I wasn't at first, I'm sure - I remember the wi-fi notification icon flashing when resuming from sleep.
glenner05, can you confirm that you can get wi-fi to sleep please?
Hmm.. thought it might be connected to the htckeepwifionwhenunattended registry value but mine's set already to 0.
There're others trying to do the opposite!

Anyone else found a solution?
I think HTC made this by design. If you turn GPRS data off and leave Wifi on while in standby you will be surprised how low the power utilization is.
I tested and with GPRS data off and Wifi ON, in standby you lose about 2% battery per hour...that's nothing.
It seems that on the HD2 the Wifi power consumption is really optimized so no real need to turn

Mine is on default Wi-Fi settings and when it goes into standby, wi-fi goes off.
Paul
Yeah goes of in sleep mode, if you get wifi toggle, you can choose to keep it on or turn it off when you like .
Shame the grps is still a problem....
pgamble and jrvenge: you really mean wifi switches off on the device when it goes to sleep? Ie. you see it disconnect from your router or something?
jrvenge: what did you mean by, "if you get wifi toggle"?
clubtech: when I read your post I agreed with you, maybe. I can't now be certain I remembered correctly that I'd seen wifi reconnect. And yes, the power consumption does seem low
There is a cab floating about here that enables you to force the wifi on always or turn it off.
If you forc on it stays on, if you turn of it goes off.
Return to normal and the hd2 does its power saving thing, so im all sorted there, just need a timeout on the gprs now.
If you cant find it let me know. It works a treat.
can youplease post the cab ? I have been looking for something like this .
Sure pm me your mail and i will send it
GPRS Disconnecting software here fella's, tested and working on my HD2 100%
May also turn off wifi but i've not loked yet, just about to leave for work so will check later!! lol

Ok just tried and it does not do what we want with WiFi
Yes ... if device goes to standby, when it comes out .. you see wi-fi searching to connect again ... so it definitely disconnects and the reconnects when it comes on again.
Paul.
Yup your right!
If it's in balanced or best battery mode then it turns off in standby and reconnects/searches again when you press a button to bring up the lock screen.

Wifi sleep once screen shuts down

Wifi Sleep when locked not working
Hello, I have a problem, my wifi sleep policy is turned on to "when screen turns off" but when my phone is locked, the wifi is still on! I just pressed the lock button after 5-10 mins but the wifi is still on.
How long does it take for you for the wifi to turn off?
Any suggestions?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Not a suggestion as such but I'm reading that using the wifi sleep policy is detrimental to the battery life. Can't confirm as I'm still experimenting.
Yeah battery life is destroyed if you use WiFi sleep policy. Set it to never for best battery life. It's counter intuitive.
But to answer your question, I think it takes closer to half hour for sleep policy to kick in. You would notice WiFi off if you woke up in the morning etc or after long periods like hours of inactivity.

I'm having the opposite issue. As soon as my screen goes off I lose WiFi connectivity and get disconnected on adbWireless which is a huge pain for me when I'm developing... Maybe I'll enable sleep policy and see if that fixes my issue! Lol! I'm on stock 2.3.1

There's an option in Settings>Application Settings>Development to not turn the screen off when charging, that should solve your adbWireless problem so long as your phone is charging.

this is exactly how it works on the Galaxy S
there is an option in settings to keep WiFi on when the screen is Off in the SGS
but not sure if the NS has the same option (still waiting for my phone to arrive)

That's only if I'm doing adb over USB. I hate wires
I went to my wifi setting to make my wifi sleep once my screen shuts off but the setting doesn't stay. Is there a fix to this by any chance? Want my wifi to always sleep when my screen shuts off......

What do you mean it doesn't stay, it changes the setting to something else? When you have wifi set to sleep on screen off, it doesn't sleep immediately once the screen goes off, it takes awhile. I use "sleep when screen off" and I get great battery life.
Wait so is it good that my wifi turns off when my phone sleeps or not?

it depends on what you want
if you want to maintain connectivity then it's no good
if you want to save power, then it is good

Once I turn my screen off than turn it back on after a while my setting goes back to never even after I change the setting to shut wifi off once I shut off screen. Weird bit it does. I read in another forum that it saves battery but my setting keep changing back.

I've the same issue. I've try various app from the market for fix that, but all is the same. It's a hardware problem? The router will can cause this problem?
Thanks

data connections...

i'm sorry if this is noob, but i've recently taken into increasing the epic's battery. i'm trying to use wifi more and i'm doing the sleep policy never thing. but i don't think i get push emails anymore when the phone is locked (screen shut off). This is normal right? that wifi turns off when the screen is off, even with the sleep policy off? I'm kinda a freak about the push email - i like having it instantly. Thanks.
I leave wifi on 100% of the time with it set to never sleep and still get email notifications. I hear them start to come in every morning before I get out of bed.

[Q] Bluetooth GPS Disconnecting when screens off

Running a Nook Color with CM7.1 stable. Kind of an odd issue here, I have two different Bluetooth GPS devices, and when they are paired to the Nook and I turn my screen off and then back on, it loses the connection. The only way to reconnect the devices is to restart the Nook, as it fails to connect after the screen is brought back up. I have found that if I have the Nook plugged in for power, this issue does not happen. I have tried multiple GPS apps, reflashed CM7.1 multiple times, but still have no success unless I have the Nook plugged in, or I just ensure the screen doesnt go to sleep.
I really need this to work, as I'm using this as a pilot, and I can't have the screen on the entire flight as it will drain the battery quickly. I swore it used to work before, but I know I had issues with it, and maybe now realize what was causing those issues. On a side note, my friend has also tested everything I have done, but his works consistently and reliably regardless if he leaves the screen off, or turns it on and off repetitively. Hopefully someone may have an idea!!
Thanks in advance.
So noone has any thoughts or ideas at all?
Well seeing as it doesn't happen when your plugged in that would make me think that it has something to do with the fact that WiFi turns off when the screen is turned off. The Bluetooth and WiFi are on the same module i do believe. The default setting for WiFi is to stay on all the time while plugged in and turn off when the screen is turned off while on battery.
My suggestion would be to turn the WiFi to stay on all the time and see if that changes anything. Go to WiFi settings --> menu --> advanced --> WiFi sleep policy -->never. That would be my suggestion, hope that works for ya!

That's what I was thinking too. It seems that when NC goes into deep sleep Bluetooth will lose connection. By removing deep sleep you should be able to stay connected, although your battery will drain faster than with deep sleep on, it should have a better life with screen off than on.
Well I appreciate both of your responses. However, I should have mentioned that I do already have Wi-Fi set to always stay on/never sleep. Any other suggestions?

No notifications while tablet is on standby

Tablet looses all conection to wifi when going to sleep. So no notifications on chats or emails if sleeping. If I turn the screen on I notice it connects to wifi right away? is this normal...does this mean I can only get notifications if I have the table on?
may be it doesn't keep wifi connection on sleeping. go to wifi setting and change keep wifi connection to always.
Wow, might be as simple as that....Changed it see if that works but I do believe that was the issue was on on disconect when scree is off. Thanks for the info.
