[FIX] Cable to prevent phantom touches whilst charging - Hardware Hacking General

Hi guys,
My android device has been suffering from phantom touches whilst charging, but I found a USB extension cable that came with a WiFi dongle I ought years ago. It has shielded twisted pairs, and a very heavy base which must be metallic of some sort. Anyway, it has solved the problem and I wanted to share my results with you. I have uploaded a video onto Youtube showing a before and after with show touches enabled.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jn35hLl0JRk
Hope this helps some people who have had this highly frustrating problem!!!

The video help pinpoint my problem. I use a PowerSkin battery case for my phone. Phantom touch starts as soon as the backup battery starts to charge the phone. I didn't realize until I saw your video. I might have to stop using the backup battery or wait until it finish charging to use my phone.
Thanks for helping me resolve my problem.:good:

That are u said by phantom touches known by me as a noise from electro magnetic cause by charger.. I usually instaled ferrit(I call it that way, it some kind of magnet clip that put on your charger cable) on it..
It suck to have generated 10 post just to tell how happy n thankfull iam for using a rom they make.

I've been getting phantom touches on my phone and never even thought that it could of been related to the phone charging. But now testing it, it seems like that is exactly the issue. I'm glad I chanced across this tread.

Games with Milestone 2

I think there is problem with Milestone 2's multitouch. I'm not sure this is a hardwares or softwares issue.
Hi. Are you playing with the charger connected? Capacitive screens are very sensible to leakage currents. If there is some ghost touch happening, it's the charger's fault. The original charger doesn't have this problem, but if you are using a generic charger or usb cable connected to your pc/laptop, there might be some leakage current.
Maybe your issue is connected with limitation of Milestone 2. It supports only 2 fingers tracking. Maybe your are using more of them during play and some of them are not tracked correctly.

I experienced the ghost touch with my original charger as well...

Sorry if it's a little bit side-tracking.
Do you guys experience lags when sliding through the menu (notification bar, contacts, etc.)? I mean the sliding is smooth but it is not synchronizing with my finger. It lags for like 0.5 sec until it scrolls to the place it's supposed to be.
If you own a DEFY and do a direct comparison you'll know what I mean.
I have the exact same problem with my Milestone 2 and it's bloody annoying.
I wish that Gameloft added the ability to assign hard keys; using the keyboard for directions and the camera button to fire would not only eliminate the problem but make the game much easier to play.
havent really had any problems with game loft. but i experienced tonnes of touch screen issues after installing the game 'Words'. as soon as i removed it, ive not had any touchscreen issues, including ghost touch.
I haven't got any issues with the touch up to now. Even playing with a connected (original) charger doesn't cause any problems.
That's annoying TBH. At least if everyone was having these problems there is a chance that Motorola would acknowledge and address the problem, but as it seems like an unlucky handful of people having this issue, I doubt it would be rectified. I'm reluctant to send my phone in for repair as I've got a feeling I'll just get it back with the same fault.
the games need multitouch wouldn't run well . i assuming that one finger can obstruct another
I've fixed it! At least, it seems to be fixed
I read a few times of people disconnecting their batteries (!) and that seemed to fix the issue. I tried it myself, leaving the battery out for an hour or so, and it didn't rectify it. So in desperation I tried leaving the battery out overnight. I played NOVA this morning and it seems just fine. Still gets a little confused but nowhere near as frustrating to play as it was before.
I hope this trick works for you guys.
Oh, by the way, before I did this I downloaded Simply Draw to check if the digitiser was faulty and it worked perfectly, so I knew that wasn't the problem. Anyone who has seen the Youtube video about the dodgy Milestone 2 touchscreen will know what I'm on about.
I also experimenting problems on games, but on simply draw it was ok to me.
where is this video you are talking about?
hugs

I use the App "Screen Test Toolkit" from the market. When my Phone is connected to the original charger, I experience massive touchscreen problems in the upper and lower left corner.
Oh, connected to the charger a lot of people experience severe problems with the touchscreen. Mine is absolutely not usable to surf through the web while the phone is plugged in...
Guys, if you have such a problem, try the USB extension cable. I am using this 1,2m long cable and I have no problem with touch screen when phone's charging And Idon't know why...
I have problems playing games on the M2. It seems that is the "intended" behaviour on the multitouch. For example, try PES11. Sometimes it seems that the touch screen gets "confused" and messes with the touch points. Also, check this:

Screen Fault... ghost typing

Im having issues with my phone, where it starts typing and doing screen presses without me doing anything.
very similar to the youtube video "ghost typing" 3rd one down
(wont allow me to post external links lol)
as this must be hardware issue, it does seem like a cable might not be all the way in correctly? has anyone seen this before and can you offer me any advice on repairing it?
Try to flash a different kernel.

Try flashing a new kernel first, which one are you using right now btw?
btw used to happen on my old phone if the screen was wet for some reason :O
hi, thanks for the reply,
currently using
2.6.35.7-gf5f63ef #1
This was happening alot when i first got the phone, usually when the screen was dirty or had some moisture on it like someone said earlier. Locking and unlocking it usually helped, also try cleaning any dirt off the screen.
clean your screen
also, you experience this kind of issue when charging or using battery?
sometimes, a bad charger or unstable power will make capative touch screen strange

[Q] Touch screen is broken, how to diagnose?

My phone, not damaged in any way I know, has suddenly developed a touchscreen problem. There is a 2cm thick band across the middle of the screen which no longer responds to touch.
Do I need to take it to the phone doctor, or are there some software issues I can eliminate first? Thanks.

My Nexus 4 began to display the same problem a few days ago.
I found this thread in the archives that may help you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/help/section-touch-screen-t2232903
It has suggestions like charging the phone with lower amperage (trough a laptop USB port) and unplugging and plugging again the screen connector.
I'm not comfortable doing the latter without having a replacement phone in case things go worse, so I ordered a Nexus 5 before I try to open the phone myself.

Touch screen going wild when charging

Hello guys, my touchscreen going crazy whenever I'm charging the phone.
Doesn't receive input half of the time. No matter which charger / rom / kernel I try with, problem still there.
The weird thing is, it doesn't happens whenever I'm in TWRP.
Anybody knows the problem? making me charge the phone only at night...

I'm betting that your digitizer is going bad - mine did similar things, then parts of the touch screen stopped responding - had to reset the touch screen several times (cat /sys/devices/virtual/input/lge_touch/f54 seemed to work for some duration of time). I eventually (as of yesterday) replaced the LCD/digitizer and it now works correctly (apart from the fact that I screwed up the new screen, that is).
I would try to open back cover and attach digitizer connector cable properly (next to Jack connector). This worked for me, when I had same problem

Ive attached the image. on the black shield, i added extra tape to hold digitizer connector in place. Firstly make sure that connector is pressed in place properly.
I also glued down the left end of mainboard, so it couldnt wiggle anymore. Hope this helps... Id did for me!
well..... tried it... didn't help :/ but... here's one thing that looks weird to me: when i'm on jb - no problems. when i'm up to kitkat - the problem is back
WTF is GOING ON?!? also knock-on is gone now... brb throwing my phone on the wall

Ghost touches while charging.

There is a huge thread running for the same in Lenovo forums https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-G...ging-issue-quot-ghost-touch-quot/td-p/3337242
However, all the moderators say that the only possible solution is to take my phone to a service centre. For now, I cannot go to the service centre till next year's July because of some reasons, and also I cant't wait to root my phone too. I just want to know if it is a software related issue or hardware's.
Try another charger and cable. A badly filtered power supply can induct some transient spikes in the data lines.

I get that only on a non stock charger. When I use the stock charger it fine.
If it's still under warranty it can be sent in for repair. The ghost touch is a known issue when charging. Just turn the screen off and back on and it usual fixes it.

Same problem...it's some software issue. Only occurs when charging and if you lock and unlock the screen again, it's back to normal. Very probably a software issue; same as the random reboots, that are related to the time zone (yeah, I know)...
Cheers.
Ghost touch when warm.
Ghost touch seems to happen when my phone gets a little warm on charger or off. Sometimes turning the screen off helps other times the problem persists. I have two G4 purchased at the same time, ghost touch on both. Ghost touch allways generally in the same area on one phone and on the opposite side of the screen on the second phone. If the Nougat update does not fix this problem, which I have my doubts, I will be sending mine in for repair.
