[Q] Trouble accessing SD card - Nook HD, HD+ General

I'm running verygreen's image from an SD card. When I plug the USB cable from my HD+ to my computer, I can't access the SD card. I know I need to change the storage setting to mtp mode, but this option isn't available in my settings.
When I go to settings and click on Storage, on the right side it briefly flashes a bunch of settings, but they go away and it only shows "Internal Storage" (total space, apps, available), "SD Card" (total space, apps, pictures, available, unmount & erase card), and "Internal Storage" (total space, available).
No option to change to mtp or whatever. I see verygreen's latest ROM defaults to mtp mode, but this is bugging me. I should be able to change this.

You need to hit the three dots on the upper right. Then choose USB computer connection and check off MTP.

Thanks. I feel pretty dumb right about now...

I think VGs latest automatically does that (12/28)

can't access SD card from mass storage!

Hey guys,
i connect my SGS to mass storage (i'm running JP3 btw) and i can see the internal SD and external 16GB SD i have on my laptop, but when i try to copy something over it says 'error cannot read/write because card is protected'
how can i R/W and turn that off?
thanks!
same for me, sine jp2 and jp3 I cannot write to my external sd card :-(
you have to go to the notification bar and click on the USB connection and a message will pop up asking you to "mount", just click on mount.
Install this widget called 'USB Switcher'
put it on your homescreen and connect a USB cable
Touch the widget and now your phone storage is mounted on your computer
If still can't detect the external storage.
try this:
1.power off
2.take out your sd card
3.reformat your sd card via card reader
4.put in your sd card again
5.start the phone
6.connect USB cable
7.Use the widget above
external sd seems to be a bug for half of us, so strange, all was fine until jp2 and jp3, and the above did not work, usb switch getting FC all the time and should not have to do this should just work as before by mounting it, but ever since jp2 I get the android pic and it mounts ok but will not let me copy/place new files into external, no permission/protection is on......guess have to try jp4
Hmmm yeah no need to go to the notification bar in JP3 cause the android screen pops up asking if you want to turn on usb storage. It must be a problem with JP3 :-(

Using firmware XJG4 version, I managed to access SD card (16 G internal & 8G external from mass storage using 'USB Switcher'
My steps are:
1. Run 'USB Switcher' to unmount SD storage
2. Connect with USB to PC
3. Select mass storage option when prompt
3. Go to PC, 2 drive appears and are accessible.
To confirm the SD cards are unmounted from step 1, run file manager and the SD file directory is empty.

[Q] SD Card/SD Card-EXT / Internal storage/"Media Area"

Hey everybody, the Atrix is my first Android device and I havent stopped playing with it since I got it. Im curious to what the difference is between the "Media Area" (manage applications>move to "media area") and the internal phone storage? from what i see, anything i move to the "media area" goes to the internal phone storage.
Also while using Root Explorer i saw 2 folders "/sdcard" and "/sdcard-ext" where ext is my external sd. i checked this after noticing that my ADW launcher backup files were NOT on my sd card. and with root explorer the files were in the "sdcard" folder, which is different from my "sdcard-ext" folder.
Can anyone please explain how or why the files that claim to be saved to my sdcard are actually saved to the other "sdcard" file setup by Android? and the difference between the media area and phone storage, why are applications set to "move to media area" rather than "move to sd card".
There is a storage location option under sd card settings. I haven't played with it yet though.

Your phone has an "internal sd card" due to the way the OS is configured. sdcard-ext, as you already know, is your external SD card. Your "internal card" is divided as follows: 2GB for Android OS and webtop software, 2GB dedicated for app installation, and 11GB for media storage. This 11GB partition is called /sdcard/ in addition to media storage.

So out of curiosity how do you mount the External SD card when you plug your phone into your computer? In my cappy it would just show both SD cards as different drives but it seems when I plug in my Atrix it only wants to show me my internal SD card.
It shows both for me, but sometimes it bugs out and doesn't properly mount the internal storage. A quick reboot fixes it for me.

Thanks for that explanation..but yeah I've never seen both when plugged via usb ...good to know tho. Is there a way to set apps or back ups to the external SD card ?

if you go to sd card & phone storage settings and change the windows media sync storage location to the external sd card both will show if you mount the phone as mass storage.
if you mount it as windows media sync whichever is shown will be the one that shows on the media sync window that comes up on the pc

according to a couple of users this partition of SD/memory and the external card, cannot be remedied for apps and such to backup or save on the external? Why would Motorola do this..

[Q] Nook Reader App book Storage Location

I have a Nook with CM7 installed in the internal memory. The storage scheme as seen by CM7 is as follows:
Internal Storage: 5GB
SD card: 1GB
Additional Storage mnt/emmc: 7.39GB
Both the Internal and the SD are actually partitions on the internal memory, whereas the emmc is the actual SD card.
Now to my problem. I use the Nook Reader app to download and read my B&N book and magazine subscriptions. The problem is, the nook app downloads all the books and magazines to what it sees as the SD card, and it's out of room.
How do I get the app to store it's data to a different location like the emmc or the "internal storage". There are no options to do this from within the app, so I was thinking some configuration file somewhere.
Any Ideas?

The problem is you have a configuration setting wrong. You have selected to swap the sdcard and emmc. That's why it is showing the way you say. Go to settings, Cyanogenmod settings, Application, and uncheck 'Use internal storage'. (edit. See below before you do it). Reboot. That will change things back to normal and 'sdcard' will be your real sdcard. Then Nook reader will use the larger card. You will need to either copy the existing nook directory from emmc to sdcard or redownload your books and magazines.
You may have data from other apps now on emmc that needs to be transferred back to your new 'sdcard'. It might be a good idea to copy everything from emmc to sdcard.
Edit: Another problem I just thought of. You may have some apps installed to SD. If so, go to settings, applications, Manage Applications, SDcard, and uncheck any that are checked (actually, selecting will take you to a screen for the app, select 'move to phone'). Do this BEFORE you change the setting I described above.

Thank you, that worked perfectly. All I had to do is copy the nook folder to the new location and everything works fine.
Thanks again,
Chris

Adoptable Storage - Anyone got it to work?

I tried the Adoptable storage mod using ADB and everything went through fine with no errors during ADB.
The file size of internal storage is still 32GB reported through the phone's storage setting. It also shows my 64 GB SD card through the phone's storage as well.
SD card disappeared from the File Manager on the phone and does not show up on my PC when connecting the phone.
I filled up the 32 GB internal storage with apps and movies and I am unable to put anymore on. Pretty much indicating that the adoptable storage feature is not working.
I am in the process of factory resetting with the partitioned SD card to see if that fixes anything.

I used the mod to split my 200gb card in half. It worked for me as you can see by the ss.
I finally got mine to correct the total device storage size. Now to see if apps install properly if I fill up the internal storage.
Time to download a ton of crap from Oculus and I'll see what happens.
When you guys say you finally got it to work, what exactly did you do different because I tried exactly as the how-to says and couldn't get it.

After you follow the steps to partition the SD Card, Go to Settings > Storage > SD Card > More (upper right corner). Then migrate files to the SD Card.
Once the migrate completes then I believe that the SD Card is properly made into adoptable storage.
New apps and data should now fill you your SD Card first, before using internal storage.

I have a new problem ...
I did everything on the tutorial and no errors but still wont WORK
My internal phone storage is full and i migrated the internal sd-card (go to Storage-->internalSD-card--->dots uppercorner and migrate) like u said but still the apps won't install on the internal sd-card...
it just asking me to delete some apps to able to install the new one...
Help me with my Sony Aqua m4 8gigs... PLZ
I'm curious about something. Been trying to get this to work but after doing "sm partition disk:179,0 private" (without the quotes) it is my understanding that it may take a while but in no less than 2 seconds it goes back to hero2qltespr:/ $
I also do not see the Migrate data option in (Storage-->internalSD-Card---> upper corner dots). On my Sprint S7 Edge it's Settings --> Device Maintenance --> Storage --> and the 3 dots only has Storage Settings. Once in there there isn't an option to migrate data.
Any idea what I can be doing wrong or does Nougat remove that Migrate option on the Sprint version.
