I was messing around with the power saving mode just now. I realized that when I tick-on "Screen power saving" I can notice a huge slow down on the whole ui. Now remember everything else is ticked-on including the cpu limiter. But with "Screen power saving" turned off, I couldn't tell the difference between power saving mode and non-power saving mode. Which leads me to conclude the "Screen power saving" is doing some major cpu calculation which might actually not be so great as it defeats the purpose of power saving.

That power saving mode and blocking mode are the stupidest two things that they pushed on android.. I never used thise things. Also, that screen brightness adjustment in notification menu is so annoying,and I never touched it. And whyv they added those extra toggles in notification menu next to sound,wifi ,mobile data,etc so now everything slides from side to side and I always press something that I don't want. Or maybe there is a possibility to turn those off and I can't find how to..

Toggles can be customized even on stock.
And power saving mode really does save battery, and its customizable.

It saves battery but it destroys performance. It is acting like galaxy ace when on power saving mode . Please show me how to customise the toggles, because I can't find out how after 10 days of looking into the settings. Can I move the brightness adjuster too? Thanks

Dear ...go to settings ...display...notification panel...and yes u can remove the brightness adjuster too from thos setings itself

Sorry, didn't realize it is a 4.1.2 feature!
But I don't understand how you can say that power saving mode destroys performance, I hardly notice any difference in normal usage. It's basically just the cpu locked at 1 ghz.

The screen power saving mode does something with the screen's refresh rate, if you have it on you will notice the screen flickering in a very fast rate, so the slow down in the UI is probably because of the screen is skipping every other frame making it seem like it slowed down when it is not

Does make sense, but would that really save a lot of Battery? I think the sweet spot now is to just tick on CPU Limiter while leaving everything off. [Obviously people who use CPU apps don't really need this feature as they can modify the CPU even more] Too bad I really don't use this feature much as of yet but will report back if I find anything new. I'll try to use the phone for a couple days with just the CPU Limiter ticked on this weekend.
If you want to save power on your Note 2, you might use SetCPU, Screen Filter & Juice Defender Plus, these apps help me a lot to save battery.
Because it limits your screens fps to like 40 or 30

I strongly believe it is lower then 30FPS.. Perhaps below 25fps.
HOWEVER if you uncheck Screen Power Saving, the FPS returns back to normal. I usually use Power Saving mode with only Power savings on, this way performance is not affected.
What's interesting is that I've been testing power save mode on some pretty high end games like modern combat 4 and nfs most wanted and you only lose 4-8 fps on average, but it still remains over 30 fps.
This is with all the options ticked in power save mode. For gaming while off the charger, it would help extend the battery quite a bit.

If that is true, I hardly find a reason to NOT use power savings until more graphics demanding games come out. I'll also test it out on Deadzone.

Well those extra fps could come in handy, but if power save gives extra playing time then it might be worth the slight loss.

Exactly my experience too.
Also, it's not the fps getting capped, lower fps is just a result of capped cpu frequency, but the refresh rate is capped, which could lead to a certain amount of flickering even though I cannot see it. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Just now. I was on xda app and suddenly the screen started having a titty attack (its happened numerous times before on froyo)
i wasnt worried cuz i figured my processor was just being overworked so i downclocked it to 400mhz.
Usually this happens in miren or dolphin. Then it clicked. It MUST BE ALL THE ENERGY BEING USED TO RENDER THE WHITE! cuz i always use my [phone at or near max brightness....
the thing was, i lowered the brightness and it stopped, but then it just shut off....i had to unplug it and plug it back in for the charger to even start charging it again.
So my question...is the screen dying (which means it has been for a while.) or is the processor dying (which means it has been for a while lol)
just wonderin are you using a stock battery or a cheapy from ebay? i had this happen too, and it turned out to be neither the screen or the core. it was only happening when i was using my aftermarket chinese battery.
im using stock battery

I had a screen crap out on me. I had similar symptoms leading up to it. The next thing that happened was the touchscreen became unresponsive unless keyboard was open. Then it stopped altogether. Thank goodness for my insurance because it did die. When I took it to a Repair store they had to open a new one to replace it because it is not a common issue.

How bad is it, I know we can all experience the screen f'ing up just by raising the brightness all the way and go to settings>display>and uncheck power save mode then go to any screen that is white. Its a problem with the super amoled.
But if you have the power save mode thing checked I think ur f'ed

This has happened go me before. But it was because I was trying to flash roms over a custom stock rom and I didn't know. I suggest you Odin back to stock. Leave it for a week or 2.

My screen flickers really hard on all white pages when the screen iks on full bright and power save off. Not all the time though, only when my battery is under 20 percent or so.

Similar experience but usually only when under 10-15% battery left and full brightness. The screen just can't draw enough current I guess.

Ohhhh, well that's interesting. Because if you OC or if your phone heats up enough data corrupts and your screen spazzes out. But I wonder if weather could play an affect towards that.

Its funny you mentioned that. It was 103 degrees in SoCal yesterday and I was getting random reboots and freezing ON FROYO and that never happens to me.

I have a problem: I cannot slide to unlock the phone when the battery is very low. I have to swipe the widgets page on the lock screen to open an app and then click the back button to get to the main pages. Why is this?

Hey everyone. Just wanted to know if you all are experiencing a lag when using the power button to turn OFF the screen. At times it will be instant and at others it will do a 2 phase dimming before powering off. Also at other times it will take a couple seconds before responding to the push of the button. Let me know if you all are having the same issue. I had the note 2 and I don't remember if it had the same problem.
Also I can post a video when I can if ya all need a visual.

Its occessional but if you try many time continuesly switch off by power button you will found lag for switchig off the screen.

I got annoyed by the Home button so I installed Button Savior on my Note 2. I'll do that on my Note 3 for sure. I just hate mechanical Home button. I wish Button Savior lets me configure long pressing Home to be launching Google Now

Screens only on german, hope it helps.
Start s-voice, after that, enter settings (menu button). Disable option (should be "open with home button" or sth. like this (I'm using a german device)

I messed around with the settings and it's not like a huge difference but try turning off the water ink effect for the lock screen to open the device and put none and I notice a .5 or sec difference, it's sad if it turns out because of that:crying:
Omg I found out why there is lag on the power button when putting the phone to sleep and waking it up. Turns out that a lot of apps or system processes, well it uses a lot of ram I used a app called clean master it's free and it frees up ram. When I free the ram the power button seem more responsive. So try it out. Kind of disappointing for an amazing phone even with 3gb ram can still be effected like this

I got the same problem. Bought mine from a Fortress in Hong Kong unlocked. 4G LTE model.
Also noticed that not only is there a lag before the power off button kicks in but a lag for the thing yo actually shut down. Takes a while to shut down.
I'm pretty sure it has to do with power saving frequencies set in the kernel. I have experience this with previous devices when tweaking kernel for power saving. If the low side for idle is really low you'll get the lag. Don't quote me on this but I'm almost certain.

It completely removes it for me. Its pretty much instant.
I agree. I went into svoice and unchecked open via the home key and also wake up command and the lag waking up mostly gone. I still get some with multiple apps running in the background though, not too concerned either way.

If you uncheck open via the home button you will no longer be able to open it back up by double clicking on the home button. Say you unchecked it and then you wish to go back and check it again you will no longer be able to go back as double clicking on home button no longerbrings back this option to check or uncheck again
Anyone know how to bring this option back?
But see this thread is about the power but to make it sleep and wake up, not the home button to go back to the main page.

Adaptive power saving changes your power mode depending on your usage, other than that I don't think theres any benefit to it because power management actually comes from the power mode itself.

i'm pretty sure the adaptive power saving turned off my AOD for no apparent reason when i took a bit of a long driving trip, not like the battery got that low, down to 60% or so most likely, not positive that was it but that's all i'd expect from it is suddenly a feature you like and use is shut off and you have to waste your time researching why.
With that turn off I actually seen great results with my battery got almost to full day and a half I wish I could of screen shot but oh well.

They can, simply enable medium power saving from the quickpanel and it will let you personalise the profile, resolution AOD and all, set it back to Optimal and then enable Adaptive power saving.
You want Adaptive power saving to be on all the time, it extends battery even more once it learns about your usage and you won't feel any slowdown unless you're playing.
