adding to "Recent Drawer" - Nook HD, HD+ General

So has anyone stumbled upon a way to add non B&N Apps's etc to Recent Drawer ? Since it sits there anyway I thought I might get a bit broader use from it.

Unfortunately as for me, no. However, I have downloaded an app known as "TaskSwitcher" and I use that as a way to multi-task on the Nook HD+. Also it can close apps by just holding the icon down, so it's an effective switcher and manager.
Although it would be great to use B&N's recent app drawer, I think they've just modified it too much. Perhaps we can eventually modify it ourselves and get other apps to display.

Take a look at Recent Plus, too. Haven't used Task Switcher, but RP shows both Android and BN apps, and actually works better for resuming a Flipboard session than the BN app drawer does - the BN app drawer takes me back to the top of the news, where Recent Plus drops me back to the article I was reading.

Since its gimped as a Recent Drawer, I actually changed it to the Reading Now button. Clicking on it let's me choose either the BN stock reader or another reader I've installed (Mantano) to open the last book I was reading. Go to Settings > Applications > Home and unchecked Show my Recent Drawer.

[Q] Stock Launcher Tweaks?

First off, please do not reply with "Try Launcher Pro" or anything similar. I have the paid version of LP and like it very much, but I also like the stock Gingerbread launcher, TYVM.
After using the stock launcher since picking up my NS on launch day, the only thing I'd like to tweak is the app drawer. I'd like the ability to change the scroll inertia as I miss being able to scroll through 200+ items with one or two strong flicks when I need to. I'd also like for it to remember my last position in the app drawer.
I'm sure that somewhere inside the apk (or elsewhere) these are configurable options that could be utilized by a 3rd party tweaking app, but have been unable to find such a thing.
Thanks.
I just want to replace the phone icon with the messaging icon, since I browse and text the most. I rarely make phone calls.
You would have to pull the stock launcher source code into eclipse, edit the code, the re compile and load it onto your device.
My hunch is you'd specifically have to change onSavedInstanceState or onRestoreInstanceState (or the onPause onResume) functions of the app drawer activity to memorize the app drawer location each time It's sent to the background.
For an experience that is supposed to be about customization, not sure why Google/Android wouldn't have these features implemented in the first place -- something as simple as changing say the icons on the dock, or the settings of the app drawer.

4.5.6 and book/reading now icon

I searched the board and tried the postings I have found.
Is anyone else having problems getting the reading now icon / book icon working after rooting with 4.5.6? I tried opening the suggestions on the development postings - Open book from B&N library, go to B&N library, then press the home button to the Zeam launcher. The icon still does nothing. The book I am reading is on the SD card if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance for any solutions to this!
Known issue with no real solution at this time. The best thing I know to do is run NookHome and then pop back to Zeam and it will work (for a time). What I have found is that after a while, the background home launcher will get shut down and you would have to do this trick again.
For the record, when it quits working, Nook Color Tools shows it's still running, but SystemPanel shows it isn't. Quick refresh and it works again.

Can you describe the problem in detail? I don't seem to have it. Rooted with 4.5.6.

From a fresh reboot (just to make sure everything's clean), reading now icon doesn't do anything for me (if it does for you, let me know!). So I run NookHome to pull Home into the background, then hit the N key to go back to Zeam. Now the reading now icon works.
Do whatever, and then just let it go to sleep or something, say overnight (not sure about exact timing, but overnight should do it). Now the icon no longer does anything. If I go to manage applications in Nook Color Tools, it shows that the stock Home is still in the background. If I use SystemPanel though, it does not show it running. Do the NookHome trick again and now SystemPanel shows the stock Home is in the background again.
Weird, mine works and that's how I rooted as well. It works in ADW Launcher EX and in Zeam Launcher. Are you guys sure you just aren't hitting the icon in the right spot? You know how these screens are. I have to clean mine on a regular basis to get some of those inputs on smaller icons to take.
book works for me too!

I downloaded a free BN book (James Madison). When I hit the book icon either in the upper right corner or in the left part of the task bar, it takes me directly to the page I left off.
The icon works with either the ADW home page or Zeam home page. Coincidentally, I have ADW installed also.

Okay...I'm confused...what has a book icon in the upper right corner? I know the stock home app has an icon in the upper left corner but I thought you were running ADW? The stock home app works fine.

I am confused.. I meant the upper left corner "book" icon. The book icon always works from the upper left corner (when it's there). I followed your suggestion and after the NC is in sleep mode overnight, the stock book icon with ADW in the lower task bar no longer works. Clicking the icon in the NC home app seems to rejuvenate (for lack of a better word) the ADW book icon.

Yep. We're on the same page now
What are you running when the book icon is in the upper left? Only thing I know that does that is the stock home app.
This reading now is my one bugaboo about 1.2. Still can't figure out how the icon works perfect in 1.1 (using AN 3.0.0 from GMPower) but not in any other rooted NC. When I look at the differences between AN2.2.25 (for 1.01) and AN3.0.0 (for 1.1) and MN x (any of them for 1.2), it's hard to justify why one works and not the other. There are no framework changes in the MN for 1.2 (thought to possibly be a difference for 1.1), yet it doesn't work again. I'm starting to think that it's actually something that B&N tinkered with.

Yepp.. only the stock home app shows the book icon.
Kind of an interesting development here...
I actually installed ADW (just the free version) and, IIRC, at this point my HomeSwitcher disappeared, pretty sure it was not the Froyo version, but I went and downloaded HomeSwitcher for Froyo. ADW never shows up in my apps drawer (for Zeam or even itself), yet now the icon seems to stay working regardless, even though I’m only using Zeam.
So, recent changes are:
I've updated to Zeam 2.9.5
I installed ADW (free)
I lnstalled HomeSwitcher for Froyo (after the original HomeSwitcher disappeared).
Just a follow up on this...I uninstalled ADW and as soon as I did, the 'Home' app vanished from the active apps.
So I reinstalled it (but didn't run it). Book icon not working. Then I ran NookHome (to launch the stock Home app) and hit the N button to get back to Zeam.
And, for whatever reason, that seems to work! Home stays resident *all* the time now (11.4MB, no biggie). So, the reading now icon continues to work, even though I'm in Zeam!
The weird thing is that ADW still never shows up in the app drawer. I can run it via Home Switcher or via the market, but not via the app drawer.
Anyone else have a similar configuration that they want to see if this works the same for them?

Apps from Amazon store don't show up in Launcher

I recently installed CM7 nightly 213 on an SD card using verygreen's size-agnostic installer. This is my first time doing this so forgive me if this is a noob question.
I had a bunch of apps from Amazon that I had already installed on my phone. I installed the appstore on my nook color and I started downloading and installing the apps from my account. However once they are installed, they don't show up in the launcher.
I did look around using the File Manager and found some directories in /mnt/asec that had folders with names that indicated some of the apps I downloaded created them. Inside them there are "pkg.apk" files. If I run that, the app gets installed again and I can then see it in the Launcher.
If I go into Application settings->Manage applications I see them all there. If I go into a specific one and say "Move to SD Card" or "Move to Phone" (whichever option I have), the app will then show up in launcher. I can toggle it back and forth, i.e. SD Card to Phone and back, and it will continue to appear in the launcher.
This isn't really a big deal, but it is kind of odd. Is it a setting I have somewhere, or is this a bug somehow?
What launcher are you using?

If this post helped you don't forget to say thanks!
Just whatever the default one is.
Open the "drawer" by tapping the square icon in the bottom center (at least, it's there by default). Icons for all of your apps will be shown.
Scroll until you find the one you want, then long-press it until it lights up. Keep holding it. Drag it downwards, you'll drop back into the default launcher screen, and you can drag it to where you want it and let go.
This is the basic way to organize your launcher screens.
You can long-press any icon and move or remove it; removing doesn't uninstall.
Good luck!

Home screen on Simple Touch Glowlight after rooting

Hi,
I don't have a clue when it comes to android. I have just rooted my Simple Touch with Glowlight and the relauncher screen looks nothing like any Android desktop I've ever seen. It looks like this:
htp://imgur.com/i5hBgZc - insert an extra t - it won't let me post any links..
I haven't tried to install the NTGAppsAttack yet, as I don't want to install over something that is already incorrect.
Any ideas?
That's how relaunch looks.
The home screen is a file manger, the middle button at the bottom (9 little squares) is your apps drawer, you can configure the home directory and other stuff from the gear button, etc.
You can probably install a standard android launcher, but with all the slidings and and graphics and such it just isn't very well adapted to e-ink
I felt the same way about Relauncher when I first saw it. Seemed to hide the most important stuff. I tried a variety of launchers (also totally new to the Android world). I settled on ADW Launcher. Seems to run and look just fine and allowed me to "hide away" the apps that I didn't want to look at all the time behind the home screen.
I have used ADW and Re-launch but settled on lightning launcher as best for me. You can customize it to have no background and it is very fast. I keep Re-launch on my Nook but set it up to run as an app and not as a launcher (you can find this somewhere in the settings).
Thanks for the replies guys. I have been trying to configure Launcher8 as my homepage as it looks quite clean and it's very simple to use.

How do I get rid of this persistent google search bar on the app switcher?

(Unrooted)
Hi,
I have recently installed iLauncher which has removed the Google search bar widget from the top of the home screen. I am also aware that other launchers like nova can do this.
However, I am still unable to figure out how to remove the same google search bar that appears when I enter the app switcher (recent apps). This app switcher being what appears when you press the right hand side square button at the bottom of the screen on the home screen, where you can close the apps you have running.
I have no clue how to remove the search bar from here and it is very annoying, as it is on the switcher but not on my home screen and I do not want it on either.
I have included screenshots of my home screen and the switcher so you see what I mean.
Thanks.

It depends on the custom ROM you're running, most custom ROM's have their own settings menu to configure options that are usually not found in AOSP. You have to search there and see if there's a menu for recent apps and the option to show or hide search on recent apps should be there.
Xposed and GravityBox is always an option

I am not running a custom ROM though, just stock marshmallow with a different launcher installed.
Is there really no way to remove the search bar from recent apps?
You can do either of the above or request the launcher dev to include it. That's 3 options, just for you.
Nova Launcher allows this to be removed
