[Q] "Updated Successfully" - but what's changed? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm a newbie to Android. Got my Nexus 4 few weeks ago and am very pleased with it so far (except for the BT Audio problem).
I have many applications marked with "auto update" enabled.
Quite frequently, I get the "Updated Successfully" notification, when apps are updated.
... but how do I find out what's changed?
When an app is not updated automatically, I can see it in the play store, and the release notes are usually informative enough to show what's new. But when the app is automatically updated, there's no easy way to see those notes.
Any idea as to what can be done?
Or am I doomed to search for 'facebook' on the play store, whenever it's updated, just to search for the release notes there?

You can still go to the play store and view whats new in the current version of any particular app, even if it has already been updated on your device.

Thanks for the response.
Sure, but there's no way to get there easily.
If you click the "updated successfully" notification, the app loads.
If you long-click it, you get the "play store" app info, not the app that was updated.
The only way is to actively search for the app in the play store, that's a tedious process, especially if you have multiple apps updated.
If you don't mark apps to be auto updated, you can load the play store, see a list of the apps that need updating, and each click will show you what's new... it's actually easier.
Or am I missing something?

Push the menu button in the play store, and then my apps. All of your apps magically appear for you to click and see the release notes.

Got it!

Google maps listed as not installed?

Does anyone's Google map appeared uninstalled in the android market? It keeps listing Google maps as an app not installed at the bottom of "my app" list. I reinstall it on my device each time, but every so often it reappear at the bottom the list as uninstall.
I've got this too -- also have it with the YouTube app.
I'm not sweating it, it'll probably get fixed in a subsequent OTA.
In "Market ", mine constantly shows as "downloading ".

Go to settings -> applications -> manage -> and clear data from market. Don't download youtube from the market because it's not the honeycomb optimized version (atleast wasnt for me)

Having the same problem. I've already tried the "clear data" approach, but it still does it. Not worried about it though because both apps work just fine for me, but it does need to be fixed.

Already did unfortunately. I think there was a youtube app right? that was somewhat honeycomb optimized? how do i get that back?
Its likely that the preinstalled versions do not exist on the market yet. It doesn't detect the newer version so it shows you maps since you probably have it installed on another device. Just don't worry about it. Once the first honeycomb maps update is out, it will fix itself.

I get this too, it does not bother me that it shows as not installed, even when i tell it to install it again, what gets me is that it keeps on giveing me that market icon that tells me there is an update or something else.

Google Play does not show all installed apps

When selecting My Apps on Google Play web site I can only see half of my apps.
I have about 250 apps installed from Google.
You able to fix market links using Titanium backup?

i encountered this problem once...
i forgot how i fixed it, probably by rebooting or logging in different google account...
Try to delete data of Google play in setting - application
then restart phone
This is on the Google Play web site, not on the phone.
I just noticed this problem too.
If you install apps via apk (eg. applications you got on xda) that Google has no record of on the play store, they won't show up.
Hey guys,
I'm having the same issues with my stock Galaxy S III. A couple of hours ago, I became 4 fresh devices directly from the Authorized dealer here where I live. I wanted to update them and set them up properly for my co-workers. I've installed 4.1.1 on all 4, with kernel 3.0.31-256827. Everything went smooth on all devices and I was really fascinating what a wonderful device that is. Afterwards I've created 4 Gmail accounts for all of them (from the same IP address) to install the needed apps from GooglePlay. But one, somehow, someway didn't show any pre-installed apps in GooglePlay, such as GoogleMaps, Gmail, Google+, which should appear, because they're installed same procedure in each case (every device has got the same versione, same firmware,..).
..to focusing back on little-vince's post;
I hope that's not true.
I don't know the way these apps were installed or cooked into, but 3 of 4 phones went smoothly in my case.
All 4 were before the update on the same version, which I did not wrote down. The problem also is, that on another device I had the problem to update the apps via GooglePlay which were shown. There basically was an *update* sign, but when I clicked it there was the text that it's not available in my area.
I somehow think, that the problem is somewhere in the language/locales.
I've switched between the default language on the phone, rebooted it, and somehow I made it work on the second device to run updates,
but on the first device, not even a single installed app shows up, which is funny :silly:
I've also tried to clear cache, wipe everything, factory reset etc.., but it didn't worked out.
If you find a solution, I'd be glad to know.
Sir, you stated Galaxy S III, you do know this is the GNote >>Galaxy Note GT-N7000. Unless you are ref to the GNote 7000.
But I glad you used the Search button to bring this thread up...from June - Sept.
I had this problem once and it was because I changed the screen resolution (lcd density). Google play understands this modification as a "not compatible device", so some apps doesnt´t show at "My apps".
Before that I tried a lot of solutions, like cleaning the google play cache, etc., but nothing worked.

New Play Store arrived

For some reason, the new Play Store showed up on my Galaxy Camera, but none of my other devices yet. I do like it - it solves the one major problems I always run into: In old play store, if there is more than one app to be updated, you could do a one click update by clicking the "Update N" button, but if there was only one app to be updated, you'd have to click on the app and go through several verification clicks to really make it update (and constantly run into the problem that the page for the app doesn't know anything about an update).
At last, the newest play store has a "Update 1" button so you can one click update even when there is only a single app with an update.
Now I want the new Play store on all my devices (you'd think my Nexus 7 would have been the first to get it).
the update should arrive on your other devices eventually, but you can also manually update using this apk:

[Q] Not able to update pre installed apps

Hello
I've just received my Nexus 4 and updated to 4.2.2 and associated it with a Google account however I'm unable to updated all the pre installed apps such as Talk, Google, YouTube, etc. The 'My apps' section doesn't shows any pre installed apps. Does this means I have to go in each and every app page and hit update from there
?
Thanks

It's really a one time thing with each pre-installed app that has an update available in the market. If you go to "Play Store > My Apps > All" they will likely be grouped at the bottom of this list.

Thanks for reply. I did looked into the 'All' list but it shows only the apps that I've installed via Play Store not the apps built in. I clearly remember my GN2 showed updates even for the pre installed when I switched it on for the first time.
So is this a normal behaviour in Nexus devices, and if yes, I'll actually need to open the app's respective page and then hit 'Update' from there?
Thanks
OK I don't know what happened, the updates started to show. Thanks all.

How long did it take before this happened? My wife's new phone isn't offering updates to the pre-installed apps, although if I search for each one individually they have updates available. It's been roughly 24 hours and they still aren't showing up. Thanks.

Roughly, 3 hours. Play Store started showing when I switched to a WiFi connection. I guess, it depends upon the Internet speed.
It's because a auto backup feature. To reinstall previous bought apps etc to your new phone.
It goes away after a little bit

Apps won't appear in the updates tab of the Play Store

Hi guys.
I thought it was strange not having updates for a while on the Store, so today I checked with a friend of mine and I saw that he had a lot of updates this morning, same apps that I use on my phone.
So I checked manually if there was any updates, but I had no items in the list:
As you can see, my list is completely empty (it says "No update avaible" or whatever... in italian), so I manually searched for an updated app. I tried Instagram and:
The app can be updated... how odd ("Aggiorna" is the italian for "Update"). So I've updated it and it appeared in the list of the up-to-date apps right after.
I erased the data of every single Google app, Google Play Services too, but I had no results.
How can I fix this? It's a pretty annoying thing.
Hi,
Did you use microG?
I have the same behavior with microG.
Or maybe you've restored apps with something like Titanium?
Once you updated the app on play store, future updates for this particular app will be shown on the update tab.
You made all the proper actions to try solving it, I guess.
In Titanium Backup, there's an option for linking apps to the Play Store. Maybe it can help.
