Aux jack design - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What's with the design of this jack? I don't use ear buds but presume most will connect fine, but neither my Foxl speakers nor external amp will connect because of the curve of the phone. No problem with the GNex. Annoyed.

They'll connect just fine? Make sure you press hard enough for it to snap in! It's a standard 3.5mm jack. Just with a little bit of it cut out for the curve

You're right, I'm an idiot. Didn't have to press so hard on the GNex but there you go. Thanks.

That's what the forum is here for pal - no need to be embarrassed (well maybe a little bit lol)

I wouldn't worry too much, it took me a few minutes to figure out they had to snap in. I thought I had a faulty jack at first

iPhone headset on gs3

My wife called me saying her iPhone headset doesn't work on her new gs3. I haven't had a chance to see her yet. Anyone know if this is true?
More than likely it is. Most iPhone headsets don't work. She doesn't like the included headphones with the gs3?

They are in ear noise cancelling and not safe to use while driving and uncomfortable fit for her ear. The stock iPhone ones are great or she just got used to them. She had the evo4g and they worked great so I know it's ot a droid thing

Aren't ANY headphones in your ear while driving not safe?
There are apparently two kind of wiring in the head phones. All headphone with mic connectors have four terminals, however the order they are wired up is different.
I know this for a fact because my captivate headsets did not work on my Sony X10.
In fact if you try to press and hold the accept call button on the headset while playing music you will realize that they quality of music suddenly improves.
Solution either get some different headset or get http://www.meelec.com/MEE_TRRS_Adapter_for_P_Version_Headphones_p/adptr-trrs-35.htm
The above product worked well from captivate => X10. I probably would in your case too

Have her download that and give it a try!
I can confirm that my iPod Touch headset that has an in-line microphone also does not work.

The iPhone headset will not fully work on the galaxy s note or s 3 because of how apple made their remote.they love to custom products for their products.(greed)

How to connect nexus 4 on a car stereo using USB cable ?Is there any setting to be do

Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I believe you can thru Bluetooth or an aux jack.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Not unless the car stereo supports MTP. Most only support USB mass storage which is deprecated on many Android devices now.
A2DP or headphone jack work fine.

So there is no setting inside the andriod to make it compactable with the USB cable? Or is there a work around to make it possible without a aux or Bluetooth ?
Not possible at all. I work at a car stereo shop and not a single one I have tried works. Only solution is auxilary or Bluetooth if you want to spend the extra money... Definitely worth it if you ask me though

Ok thanks for that insight. Just want to clear one more thing on it. Is there any tweaks out there for rooted devices that would make this possible?

Does the aux deliver a better sound experience compared to Bluetooth?

As far as i know there is not... USB is a pain in the ass with android and car stereos anyways. It reads the entire SD card directory and makes it a pain in the ass to navigate through your music. Go for Bluetooth man

Bluetooth quality is purer because straight data.

This actually really dissapointed me, as it was one of my favourite use-cases for my phone, not having to maintain two (or more) seperate music collections - prevents the phenomenon of heading off on a planned highly enjoyable car trip with my current favourite music, only to find that I didn't move it onto the appropriate USB device.
My last phone was an HTC Sensation running a 4.1 JB ROM, I forget which exactly, it got changed a lot . Something minimal. Anyway...
I tried using the headphone jack out, into my car stereo aux in, and even when I upped the input source level in the stereo hardware, and cranked up the volume on the Nex4, it only got to about 60% of the volume I wanted. Bah. The Bluetooth adapter for the stereo is like $200 if it's even available anymore. Very lame.
I could get a headphone amp. Actually, that's probably the easiest thing to do for me. Off I go to the web store.
Ramble over. Oh, first post here. Hi y'all. (software dev)
Thanks for the much needed insight into this issue now. Right now I have to look for Bluetooth adapter. And I hope Google will fill this gap of charging and using the music player with the same single USB cable it would be a good thing to have too.
Hi all hope you all having a fantastic day with nexus 4

Bluetooth is convenient as there is no wire, but folks claiming Bluetooth has better audio quality than line out are incorrect (sorry). You will have much better audio quality with the line out, assuming your head unit's aux input has enough gain to get to levels you normally listen to.

Yea I was wondering about that for a while. Plus Bluetooth kills the battery faster.

My Sony WX-GT80UI says that it accepts MTP.. But when my Nexus 4 is connected, it says device not compatible. How is this? Do I need to have music files on root of card or what else could make a difference?

cant connect a headphones

i tried conning my headphones to the phone but it cant fully connect.
i tried different sizes of headphone jacks but all of them cant connect
any ideas why?
What do you mean by "Not fully connect" ?
The Nexus 4 packs a 3.5mm headset jack, so basically every headphone with an 3.5mm jack should fit.

what i mean is that when you connect a 3.5mm jack there is a click at the end when its fully connect in my case its not fully connecting
Can you try to connect the headphones to another audio source (eg. your computer) and see if it connects to it?
If not, the problem is your headset.
If it does, your audio jack in your Nexus 4 is somehow messed up.

the headphones work with another phone so i guss its a problem with the dvice
Do you have any other headsets which have a 3.5mm jack?
If you have, try them. If all of the dont fit, your 3.5mm port is broken
You could try to RMA it, or replace the part yourself.

You need to push a hit harder right st the end, it's a tight fit.

Auxillary cable for the Neo-Hybrid Spigen Case?

Hi,
I bought the Spigen Neo-Hybrid case. GREAT looking case. One thing I noticed about it though is that my Auxillary cable for my car doesn't fit in the S4 with this case on. It only really works when plugging in S3 headphones, or something equally thin. I suppose I need to get a new auxillary cable. I figure maybe some of you guys had this problem as well. I tried the RadioShack one and it worked fine, but it is 10 bucks. Anyone know of a cheaper one I could get that is a guaranteed fit? It has to be about the size of the S3 headphone set.
I would try monster cables I have the cassette to aux and it fits perfectly

That's a bummer, but hey... it should be an easy easy fix. All you need is a little headphone extension chord.... preferably one that's a few inches long. Just have to find one that fits though.

One sided audio in headphones

Hi guys
For some reason recently when I plug in my headphones I only get sound from one side.
Can anyone guide me on this? Most likely a hardware problem I know.
Does anyone know if I have to get a new jack port, where I could get one from?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Actually, this has happened to me quite a few times. I found it to be a problem with the headphones/earbuds instead of faulty hardware. First, my left audio would disappear, and about a month later, the right audio would follow suit. I believe it's just a problem with cheap earbuds, or at least was in my case.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Hmm I dont think its the ear buds as they work fine in every other thing. I've also tried different ones in the n7
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Have you tried shining a light down the 3.5 jack hole (haha, i said jack hole!) to make sure both the small contacts are sticking out far enough to make contact with the earbuds stem?
