AOKP--JB-4.1.2 for gtab (with Rom Control) 12/13/2012 - G Tablet Android Development

Ok peeps, here is another great rom for you to play with.
For those who dont know what the Android Open Kang Project is:
http://aokp.co/
This rom strives to utilize the best hacks and mods of all roms and put them into one great build.
It was built by me, but it is coded by a wonderful crew of smart people and it performs quite well.
It features many nice addons:
* customized lockscreen with color changing for the text and a nice weather widget plus more
* customize navigation bar, Navbar hiding for NBA JAm and other phone Ui games and apps
* color theming for the navbar, along with the ability to add navbar buttons which you can set to do what you want
Basically, tons of stuff. I recommend flashing and going to settings>Rom Control and just spending about thirty minutes seeing all the things you can do.
On my end, I have tried to remove what we dont need for some extra RAM. I changed up the teamdrh device overlays to suit this ROM. modified build.prop for gameloft compatibility, applied Nobe's fixes for hdmi audio and gaming audio. Various other things to get it working well.......
This is still a work in progress!!!!
Many thanks to teamdrh for the "OEM device support"
Many thanks to Fosser for his kernel
Many thanks to the AOKP crew for such a great ROM
****INSTALL INFO*******
1. Use teamdrh nvflash for Jellybean - the 350meg prep
2. Wipe data/ factory reset
3. connect to PC, copy rom, and Flash away
ENJOY!
Known Issues:
Stock launcher has shortcut issues, YOU WILL NEED A DIFFERENT ONE. I left it alone so you guys could just use what you want. I recommend Nova Launcher, this is the one AOKP uses on official builds, but again, I left it alone so you could decide, but you will not be disappointed with Nova.
AOKP has their own wallpapaers, the app would not retrieve them though, still looking into this
Internal Camera, of course, NOT YET!
Others? please....you tell me. I dont have a dock, and I dont do many of the things that others do, so there may be issues that I have not yet uncovered. I dont care about logcats or whatever, just post what dont work if you find something. THANKS!
YOU MUST GO THANK ANY MEMBER OF THE AOKP CREW, AS WELL AS TEAMDRH. THEY MAKE THIS POSSIBLE.

Congratulations
Super to have your great support. Despite I'am not AOKP fan,but for sure I will test it during the weekend.

Any screen shots?

Guys I am currently testing this Bad A$$ build and will let you know how it goes. Had to change somethings so that I can run it on my current 250m system, no hardware stuff just bloated phone crap. I will post some Screenies for you later. TY

Yeah I tested this for a couple of days, and threw it up for you guys to play with it. Im sure it has bugs that I didnt find, but I have been knee deep in trying to get 4.2 to boot and I dont have this rom loaded, but I will reload when I get a chance and throw some screenshots up for you.
I will say, though, this is the most user customizeable rom yet.

Swagpaper.apk doesn't work because there isn't any paper in it and also it might not match the SystemUI or Framework-res to open up. Going to pull some apktool skills on this and see what I can come up with.

Hi! Thanks for the rom !
I was testing. I can't overclock. With Settings or System Tuner I can't change the frequency over 1Ghz... The slider won't go across 1ghz. Weird
My fault, just needed to make the gesture right. Running on 1.2 ghz!

You could also try tjohnson's boot.img, then overclock in the rom to 1.5. If it works go hit his thanks button though.

can someone show me how to post screenshots???

Just take pictures (screenshots). And, upload via xda app or tapatalk.

Upload them to drop box in your public folder. Copy the link and instead of add link in the advance you are going to add image. You have to use drop box and not dev host. It doesn't work right for some reason.

I am testing this right now. That way: the boot.img from Tjohnson's inside that zip (this aokp) and flashed... With antutu, there is more score on tjohnson's rom (I could get 8K). I have tryed Nobe's rom. Didn't boot. Even the boot animation won't showed.
Well, I am addicted on benchmark...
Sorry for my bad english!

The navigation buttons are so spread out. Is there any way to get them closer together on the lower left corner?

Yes....in settings, rom control, navbar. You can have 7 buttons, spread them out, squeeze together, change colors, etc.

Okay, I've found how to add more buttons, which does squeeze them together. However, I only want three buttons (back, home, recent apps) and squeezed together on the lower left. Is there a way to do that? If I make the other buttons empty, there are still icons showing that there are buttons there, just that pressing them won't do anything.

All settings for this are in settings>ROM control>navigation bar
At the bottom where it says "combined bar width port" or "land" you move slider left or right and the buttons will move, you most likely want 5 percent, do both but "land" is landscape. If you just want three buttons then just choose 3 under "Nav button quantity". And if you want more, up to 7 then in the settings just underneath the quantity you must choose what the buttons do for a short press and a long press if you want. You can change the icons too.

I'm actually liking this ROM the most so far out of the Jelly Bean ROMs. It's pretty lean. It performs well. There are a lot of options. And every app I've tried on it has worked.

Here is something weird. I flashed this ROM on my wife's tablet and everything works with it. So I decided to flash it on my tablet and some apps, like Dictionary.com, aren't compatible. Any ideas why this would be?

Total Rotation... (hack/app request)

Any devs out there wanna give this a go?
I would love to be able to rotate my phone in any direction and have the screen flip like on my omnia... I know sense doesn't flip to landscape, thats not a prob, what I really want is to be able to flip the phone upside down and still use it as the correct rotation.
Reason I want to be able to do this is so I can use my phone in the cup holder of my car again, and to do this it must be upside down because of the charger placement... (same as on my Omnia)
Seems a pretty simple request, would be nice if it could auto run and run in the background without using up to much resources to.
If anyone is able to do this, would be awesome.
Thanks
Seconded ... but
I too would like to be able to rotate at least the other way; when showing off the Incredible, people rotate to landscape the other way and nothing happens, so they figure it doesn't rotate. I have to say "no turn it the other way" but it would be great to just not have to think about it.
BUT ... regarding the OP ... I simply took a dremel to the dash mount I bought (the beanbag, since California law doesn't allow sticking to the window in the middle). Carved out enough for a charger, and am done with it
I'd also like to see this. Anyone know the reasoning behind only allowing landscape mode by rotating to the left, and not the right? Even my old BB storm could handle rotation in both directions.
Agreed. This would be useful.

I would think it's because the majority of the world is right-handed and by rotating to the left, the optical track button is on the right side. I could complain because I'm left-handed, but hey at least my phone still has a signal when I hold it in my left hand, unlike other phones out there
This is an option in the cyanogen rom available in the rom manager. If you can look past the few bugs in the rom you can enjoy the 360 degree rotation you are looking for.

My phone aint even rooted yet, for some reason I've tried everything and won't allow me to get into adb recovery... anyways, if it's in another rom, it must be possible, if someone could make this an app!! it would be awesome.
Then we wouldn't have limits as to which rom we would have to use.
...just a thought...

Help getting rid of the system bar (or modify it)

Alright, first of all, this is an internal device, I will not be using these changes on my own device.
We use tablets (previously Galaxy Tabs) in our office for employees to use an internal application. Our application manages its own navigation, and users do not need to access anything else other than the application. I made it a home screen launcher so it's the first thing that loads. On the Galaxy Tab (Android 2.3), I'm also hijacking all the hardware buttons in the device and I can properly secure the device.
However, on Android 3.0, there are no hardware buttons anymore, and you cannot hide the system bar, I have no way to secure the device if the system bar is always there. I understand why it needs to be there, but this is really killing me.
I have 3 options:
Root the device, try to disable the system bar by editing the framework-res.apk --- Already tried this, unsuccesful since I couldn't find anything in there.
Wait for Android 3.0 to drop in AOSP, build my own custom rom which hides the system bar and do my own modifications on it.
Build Android 2.3 from AOSP for the XOOM -- this will be a lot of work, and I would need help, is anyone interested on helping me with this?
Thanks everyone.

Downgrading to 2.3 might be your best bet, wish 3.0 AOSP would hurry up, want to get somethings working differently as well myself. Let us all know if you downgrade and how it went! Wouldn't mind trying to sneak the shut off animation onto 3.0 if possible.

Yeah, I haven't gotten into it yesterday, but the only thing I'm concerned about running 2.3 on the Tab is the whole issue with Dual-core support, not sure if I would even be able to do it thanks to that, but I'll see. I'm also trying to call a few contacts to see if we can get into some kind of agreement with Moto to try to get the source code early... we'll see...
Have you tried running a different launcher? They allow you to hide system bars on the old android os...might work on 3.0

Yeah, that won't work, the system bar is part of the framework, it's very very low level, you can't hide it since it allows the user to navigate through the device. Before 3.0, devices were required to have hardware buttons, that's not a requirement anymore because of this system bar, it will always always be there.

True, hopefully they release the kernel source soon so I can take a look and see if I can try to make 2.3 work on the XOOM with the same kernel that's working with 3.0.
here is Tegra 2 with many options running various versions of 2.2 and 2.3.
you should reach out to GoJimi over there.

I'm pretty sure atrix is running 2.2.
u can't do anything until source drops. You need baksmali for framework and custom recovery to flash.
I think your best bet would probably be changing the DPI settings somehow (Like they did for the HC build on some phones to get the tablet version) and it would cause you to go into the "phone" version of HC (Doesn't have the system bar) then I would say modify the volume buttons and lock button long presses to recreate the home/back/multitasking buttons if you really want them (such as they have done for the i*hone android ports because ios is dumb and has 1 button). Just a suggestion and honestly I have no idea if this would work.
I'm sure the system bar has a process you can kill with root. I know the status bar can be killed this way on 2.3. Watch logcat and see what you can find. Anyone know more on this?
Porting 2.2 from the g-tab maybe. Similiar hardware I think.

Could you please check your /system/build.prop to see whether the lcd density app has added any code?
I usually tweak density directly through this file but the code isnt there atm on my xoom.
I tried changing the density yesterday and was disappointed to discover that the LCD density wasn't in the build.prop. adding the line of code didn't work, either.
XOOM'd from the XDA app.

Looking at the date on my build.prop it hasn't been modified. And just to be sure i looked through the file, nothing in there.
Huh, I wasn't receiving notifications on email even though I'm subscribed for instant notifications...
anways, will try the density trick, but that seems like a pain in the butt to redo all the layouts in our app, but that is a very very clever idea, might work.
Update: Yes it works, but only if you use one of those apps, not when editing the system.prop file, anyone care to share what's exactly being edited here?
Thanks again!
Update 2: Actually, I had a typo on the line I wrote on the build.prop, if you write 'ro.sf.lcd_density=240' (or whatever density you want to use), push it and reboot, it does work as it should.
how are u going to press "home" or "back"?
xoom doenst have physical buttons like phones.
how do u get back to home screen if u downgrade to 2.x?

What would you want in a custom ROM?

So, now we have the possibility to have custom ROMs, flasheable with CWM. THere are already two guys who have put effort out there, and maybe they'd want some ideas on what you people would like. What do you consider that should be in your custom ROM of choice?
Myself, I would love a Reboot and Screenshot option in the power off menu.
Maybe a minimalist version of 2.3?
I want the touchpads to be able to contol the system/launcher, like the D-Pad cans.
Great question.
I already have reboot options in the power menu of my ROM. Taking a serious look at the Screenshot option. Not many ROMs appear to have it though, but I'm going to give it a shot.
Landscape mode for the launcher would be awesome. I know you can use a custom launcher, but I really like the one that comes with the phone

you can edit the Home through comp. to make it more
The stock launcher, at least in the last build, does have landscape support

1) Auto Brigtness disable
2) Overclock
3) Use the touchpad as a touchscreen emulator (eg swiping on the touchpad is the same as swiping on the screen, great for browsing without touching the screen)

+1 for this. The only thing I liked about the Verizon Play is that it's basically running stock gingerbread. Currently, I'm using my custom "hybrid" of r800i rom mixed with r800x launcher/apps. The upside is that I removed all the sony junk and replaced it with stock android apps (dialer, calendar, contacts, etc) while keeping stuff like working touchpad (which failed me in cyanogenmod) and playstation pocket. The downside is that I can't replace the sony lockscreen and statusbar with the stock one. For now, I'm just using widgetlock to emulate it.
If someone can get a working stock gingerbread rom with NOTHING extra (not even hidden SE apps and services), but still have working playstation pocket and touchpads/xperia optimized apps. I will use it.
AndroHero's ROM is certainly in that path.
But really... the stock GB Launcher too? It couldn't be more spartan if it tried...
I took a good run at adding a Screenshot menu item to the power menu but haven't been successful yet. Ends up crashing on boot, unfortunately, so I'm doing something wrong. Not giving up yet though. Decompiling JARs and trying to understand it all is a huge pain in the ass.
I've got reboot options already though along with the ability to overclock and undervolt.
I was looking towards pretty much going as stock Android as possible, but I wasn't sure anyone would want it.
need a 3g and wifi transfer rate in status bar, to make sure all the things running at the background and another app like fpse or psx4droid just for play ,bcz this is xperia play

There's also the issue with Recovery just rebooting and not directly starting recovery yet. I'll take a look at what Power off is doing on mine as well.
Power Off seems to work fine for me. Are you maybe running it with the USB cable plugged in?

CONFIRMED WORKING - Xposed mod on metro pcs 626s

I can confirm version 79 of xposed for ARM sdk22 as working. You'll find the downloads at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811
Perform a nandroid backup before beginning.
Download the xposed installer apk , install it, boot into recovery and flash the xposed v79 arm sdk22 .zip, clear cache and dalvik, then reboot phone and you are good to go! I know a lot of us have been waiting for this news so I figured I'd share.. Keep in mind, after you install the .zip and reboot the phone is going to take about 10 minutes to boot up but eventually it will, immediately afterwards the apps will be "optimizing" for about 15 minutes as it rewrites ART to include xposed. Now I am off to go install some modules! Later guys hahaha
Here is an Xposed Mod that will change carrier text in notification header, lock screen, and dial pad to anything you like. I changed mine to T-Mobile since MetroPCS is pretty much using their network. Edit (SystemUI) for header notification carrier text and lockscreen carrier text. For dial pad carrier text while connected to a call edit (Dialer). You will have to put in original name which will be MetroPCS and for custom text, enter whatever you like.
[MOD][Xposed][Custom Text]
Big Thanks to: @liubaoyua
Anyone that has any useful stable modules, make sure to list them. Time to MOD
Snapprefs for Snapchat works too, so you can add it to that list ^^
Btw how do you get that "illest" and the leaf in the status bar? it looks cool cx
In the screen shot is the options for data signal in the pro version of Flat Style Bar Indicators xposed mod... Also I have Battery Home Icon in the screenshot. It turns your home button into circular battery meter. (look at my home button). This mod allowed me to free up status bar space and replace battery meter with day of week in the FSBI module. I highly recommend FSBI pro version and also pro version of Flat Style Colored bars. (This one adds colors to your status bar and nav bar for a more immersive look) .. I actually paid for those two when I had my old phone. Instead of explaining everything I have up and running so far, I'll post a screen shot of my modules screen.. One module that isn't on the screen shot is advanced power menu (apm). For booting into recovery, soft reboot etc... All of the mods shown I got directly from the xposed repo. I have my display setting to show experimental and beta mods as well as stable ones. But I've no issue with the mods that I've activated.. Not only on this phone, but I've used all these mods for numerous months on my old phone as well

Tried it and xblast has no effect on this device. Pretty much doesn't work. And it only changes header and lockscreen I believe. I believe custom text mod changes in any apk in app text and goes deep into the xml file. You can probably even change the hangouts text in the hangouts app into something like "Hanging" I haven't tried. But I'm sure you can, incredible mod. There also isn't too many mods for sense lollipop ?

I was interested because I seen some m9 roms like viper rom has it built in the system settings and it's based off sense. I tried doing it without any mod and it's headache dealing with Java and SDK. I'm looking to see if I can port cm12.1 or cm13 on this device but I know it's not easy. I'm just a novice user, but I wanna start developing.

I wish I could help. Developing is way outside my realm of knowledge. Would a CM build be your best chance of getting it done? I know its a personal preference, but I've preferred slim base and AOSP base over CM base as far as lollipop goes. (Slim had RRO when I was using it) . but to see ANY base Marshmallow build on this mid range phone we own would be killer!

I think they're all aosp based. Slim and cm is aosp based. I think it all depends on what kinda feature they bring. RRO layers is easier to code than cm themes I believe. I highly doubt I go into building a rom because I don't have any help and barley know anything about linux lol. I also don't have time to learn and do it. I wish I could lol. ?
I totally get it bro
working on t-mobile 626s too
I can confirm this is working on the Boost Mobile 626s variant as well.

EdeWow. This whole forum is pretty much dead. I wont be in this forum any more since i picked up an LG G3 which i love. I got a sweet deal on it because the usb port is broken. (I picked up an external charger) . If anybody needs to reach me which i doubt. Feel free to inbox. I recommend this G3 though. If you can get your hands on one, and dont mind switching to at&t or tmobile, do it. I rooted and installed recovery in less than ten minutes.. Incredibly easy. I never thought processor power mattered... Boy was i wrong. Nandroids took 1200-1500 seconds. On the G3 78 seconds... Thats insane. But anyways. Happy trails my Desire friends. Happy new year. I will come by and browse and try answer questions from time to time

Nice I like LG..I have an LGV410, and it gets cm13. I actually wanna get an LG phone. I want an unlocked optimus pro the notification light is sick on that phone. I got this phone because I couldn't pass on a $40 offer. So I picked it up, this phone hasn't let me down. Now it's time to max out your g3 software.
Yeah I had a similar situation... Cheap price and couldn't pass up.. I love how loud this thing is...Here is what I got on it right now. As soon as my simple mobile sim arrives I'll be making it my DD. Total bummer that metro won't let me use it.. 60 dollar unlimited plan really is the best deal around..
I want to make sure I am doing this correctly because flashing this zip via twrp takes up half of my internal storage memory (System & Other is using 4.36gb) despite the zip being about 3mb and seems to continue "eating it" even while I'm not touching anything.
I'm on stock rom w/ root and no nandroid backups or anything in my internal storage.

custom navigationbar app (pc taskbar and mobile navbar and notificationlighting)

hi for the last year or so i've been working on designing a custom environment for android, i just released a custom navigationbar app called arc lighting navigationbar on the playstore allthough it has been used and tested on galaxy devices such as the note 9 it works on any other phone too, this app will let you customize the navigationbar extensively, which includes changing each button back, home, recent apps to various icons both presets and icons from any iconpack, you can also place colored layers behind the icons, each color can also follow your wallpaper or app, you can customize it so much that you can turn it into a taskbar for desktop use meaning you can use any phone as a pc without a seperate environment such as samsung dex, the app is called arc lighting navigationbar, i couldn't possibly describe everything it can do so you'd have to test it i don't think theres anything you can think of that you can't do with when it comes to customization, whats left is the dockmenu for true desktop and mobile environment but the developer i am working with does not want to finish the work until this app gets traffic as i owe him too much money for the work he did.
here you can see it on a s9+ https://www.facebook.com/symetium/videos/441167859757603/
and here you can see it on a xperia 1 including it's desktop ui

in the beginning of the message you say you are developing the app and its in the play store and then at the end u speak about the actual dev is someone else and they dont want to finish the work for x reason.
sooo.. what are we to do with this?
is it available or not?
or is this just to monetize youtube links?

honestly it means a lot when someone truly appreciates my work i have to go through a lot of 1 star ratings for really weird reasons such as too complicated or uses too many permissions so it's nice when someone actually appreciates it thank you, and yes it is difficult to figure out as i wanted customization per button rather than all 3 at once, i could have made it simpler and had one light control for all buttons at once but each button has it's own full set of settings icon, color, light indicator, movement, layer etc i don't find it complicated as i designed it but i understand if other people do.
I'm impressed. To be able to do that without root is awesome since this thing is in root limbo. As soon as I have 6 bucks I'll donate. I'm on an N9... Can't get the advanced option to work... Any thoughts?

well i am really sorry to say but the advanced option does not work on galaxy phones for some reason so the app has been made to block the advanced option to function, we tried to get it to work but it crashes the phones ui theres something with oneui so you'd need to use the mode that requires no root or software, the difference between advanced and simple is simply no transparency theres no other difference so you get all the same features as advanced but instead of modifying the navigationbar it will place one ontop of the old one i recommend doing this with gesture navigation enabled as then you get a very thin navigationbar as well as the gesture navigation, but i am so sorry for this i should have been more clear on that, made me sad considering you liked the app.
Sounds great. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

you're welcome let me know if you need any help, as mentioned i do recommend enabling gesture navigation first this makes the navigationbar much thinner than usual it also allows you to use gesture navigation or taps at the same time.
these are ugly navbars!
