[Q] Auto rotate not working - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my auto rotate is not working at all, apps that require landscape mode are fine and will rotate, but apps like youtube, any video viewing, or apps could run in landscape but are running in portrait because the autos rotate is not working. Can someone tell me what is up with my phone please? Thanks

Go to settings, display and make sure auto-rotate screen is ticked.

Ticking the box in Settings >> Display >> Auto screen rotate will allow apps like Google browser and CarHome Ultra to automatically run in landscape mode. You can use an app like Screen Orientation to pull down (like Power Toggles) and set the orientation, i.e., fixed as landscape or portrait ... but it does not set to automatic.
For the first time in years, I am running a stock Android smartphone, and am disappointed at how little Google seem to have picked from the developers who have either cooked some terrific ROMS (e.g., CM) and kernels, or developed apps like PowerTools.
How could Google release a smartphone with their OS where the Settings >> Display >> Auto screen orientation does not work?

The stock launcher doesn't support auto rotation it rotates in some apps not all, Try installing Apex Launcher its in the play store. Then go to behavior settings/screen orientation set it to 'auto rotate'

Automatic sreen rotation depending on active app

Hello.
I am looking for an app, that will have a customized list of apps, activating them will the screen rotate to landscape orientation automaticly(default is in portrait).
Example:
I start Office(Spreadsheet app) and I want it to automaticaly rotate to landscape. If I close it or switch to something else(of course, that's not in the list),it should rotate to portrait, after returning to this app it should again switch to landscape. Exactly,as iReader does, which has this feature included, but with all apps in configurable list.
I hate the automatic rotation depending on the sensor,so I want to do it this way or maybe manually.
Thanks for your tips in advance.

Locking screen rotation?

I've enabled home screen rotation and true tablet UI as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1800042
However I haven't found a solution to lock the screen in landscape mode. I've tried several apps and widgets that claim to do that but none work on the N7. All they do is force the screen in portrait mode.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Maybe this will help..
Have home screen set to autorotate, then set your tablet to be autorotate on top via notification dropdown. Then put tablet in landscape mode by holding it that way. While its in landscape mode do to the notification bar (dropdown) and lock the rotation. It should stay landscape.
Great, that works. I hadn't thought to dig among the settings in the popup menu.

[Q] Auto rotate screen not working

I got Android Version 4.2.1, I have auto rotate set to on from Settings -> Accessibility, when I rotate it from portrait to landscape it is not working. But if any app gets oriented to landscape then I cannot rotate it back to portrait any more, it is getting locked.
Can someone please help me to figure out what is wrong?

Landscape mode not rotating the screen

Hi everybody, my experience with my s7 edge it's been amazing so far until I faced a problem with rotation . The phone rotation works great with system apps and some 3rd party apps (almost all apps but not including games) if I use for example gallery on landscape it will rotate to the direction that I want , but when I'm using a game , I tested more than 10 games that only work on landscape and the screen won't rotate , by default it's on the left orientation I find this very frustrating because I'm always listening music with headphone and I'm more comfortable using my phone on landscape on the right side orientation, any suggestions? Yes I have auto rotate enabled !

Gallery would not rotate to landscape

Hello.
Does anyone have this issue when gallery cannot be rotated to landscape mode, including image view?
The auto rotate is enabled, all other apps working fine, including camera app. Gallery shows only in portrait and when phone rotated it stays in portrait.
I've tried clear data of the gallery, also cleared all cache from recovery. That didn't help.
Any other ideas before I waste 6 hours of setting up the phone with factory reset?
Thank you.
Found what's causing it: Nova launcher with "Screen orientation" set to "Default" or "Force Portrait".
As soon as I set it to "Auto-rotate" the gallery started rotate as well.
Any ideas for a work around other then allow nova to rotate?
