16 gb to a 32 gb logic board - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I exchange logic boards will it still work? I want to upgrade my memory and figured the memory is probably located somewhere on the logic board.

The logic boards are different and there have been changes made between the different revisions of the N7. You wouldn't be able to simply swap it out. There are schematics and tear-down pics of the 16GB, 32GB, and 32GB 3G version of the N7 that you can take a look at. Ultimately, your best bet would be to sell your 16GB so you can buy the 32GB.

Best buy selling 32GB model

Didn't know if anyone knew this buy Best Buy is selling the TF300 for 399.99. Just 20 more dollars for double the memory. So if you want a great tablet I would swoop in BB to get one.

Yeah I didn't think they had it either but I went there yesterday to buy the 16GB model and they had the card stock for a 32GB model. I asked the guy and he said yes, I was stoked. He at first grabbed me the 16GB model so I had to do an exchange for the 32GB model. When I get home I'll shoot a picture of my receipt

This makes me sad, i checked with my local Best Buy earlier today and they still don't have the 32gb version. Not the end of the world for me, just figured if i could easily swap it for the 32 i'd be all for it.

well for me I was always checking best buy for it, always checking the site and going in like every 3 days. I was in a rock in a hard place to either wait or just grab it from amazon. My wife keeps making fun of me because I am an instant gratification type of guy and I just want it now and not wait for shipping from Amazon. If I were you I would check up on it as much as I can because you have 30 days to exchange or if your a premiere silver member you have 45-60 days to exchange it, cant remember which one. Im sure they will have it advertise in the Sunday weekly ad.

Yep. In the ads, and Its now available at every store near me. Contemplating the exchange. Broke right now. In all reality Ive never even come close to running out of memory, with the exception of my Evo 3D due to only having 1gb internal.
On my 300 I have 16gb internal, and a 16gb sd card. With 151 apps and games I have 8.79gb internal, and 11.45gb external left.
On my Galaxy Tab 7.7 I have 16gb internal, and a 16gb sd card. With 137 apps and games. Still have 6.27gb internal and 10.01 external left.
Although only $20 for double the memory is awesome, I dont want to risk any issues with the new one. (Light bleed, etc). The one I have now is perfect. Besides with my luck Ive had lately with Best Buy and tablets Id probably get a bad one.

Wow man that is a ton of apps you have, are their any you recommend having on the TF300? I don't think with my 2 devices I even half of what you have lol. On my GS2 I have 65 apps and I have like 30 on my TF300.

For those of you that exchanged for the 32gb is the color the same dark blue? Or is it the lighter blue that some people got?

16GB motherboard in a 8GB Nexus 7?

Very vague... But I have a functioning Nexus 7 16gb motherboard with broken backlight. If i bought an 8 GB Nexus 7, could i swap out the motherboards and put the 16 GBmotherboard in the 8 GB one? I would like to get one fully funtional 16GB Nexus 7 in the end, and wouldn't mind saving $50 if I could.
Thanks!
Sent from my MB870 using xda premium
Technically, I see no reason why that wouldn't work. The only difference between 8GB and 16GB models should only be just that, the size of the internal storage chip, which is on the motherboard.
It would cost less to send the tablet to Asus for a repair. A full screen replacement would most likely be $100 max.
Sounds like good idea.

I heard peoples saying screen repair is costing 170+
If there was a confirmation about the board that would be the best choice. (Spare parts)
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
It should work. You could sell the spare parts to help cut down the overall cost of the 8GB model. Screen repair via ASUS is said to be $150+.
How did the backlight go out? Sounds like it should be covered under warranty.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium App
All cost reports are $150-170 that I've seen posted...
Sent from my MB870 using xda premium
Also the backlight went out because of the most precise drop ever into a thin metal bar... Very little physical damage, but the display connector that is integral to the screen is seperated slightly... Further the bezel is cracked so i think a new Nexus 7 8 GB would be the best option.
Thanks all!

I heard it was asus' way of trying to fix the screen lift.
But coking from someone who bought the 16gb model, I would recommend 32gb. You only get around 13 usable gb with the 16 version
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Its not a fault it was a change in the manufacturing process. If you buy a 16gb model the screws will be missing too. But only you can answer the question about which model you should get. I would personally go for the 32gb since it has the most space but if you just use your tablet for internet browsing and social media then a 16gb model would be ok,

(Q) motherboard swap 8gb vs 16gb

I just bought an 8gb n4. Previously I had a 16gb n4 that I now have the motherboard to leftover. Long story. Can I simply swap the old motherboard in my phone to upgrade back up to a 16gb again? Will there be any software/hardware problems? Imei? Root? Phone looking for 8gb but seeing 16gb? Long story short, is it as simple as a hardware swap...factory reset...re-flash favorite Rom...?

It will change the imei obviously. You can swap it, check YouTube for guides.

I'm using 64 on my note2, I don't see why the note3 wouldn't allowed 64 or even 128 when it comes out. I use paragon to mount it. they always say max 32 on their specs, I don't know why they do this..
Maybe you have 128Gb???
Check out eBay. I lucked out and bought a 64gb for $11 w/free shipping (I know you get what you pay for but $11!?). They usually go for $20 minimum. I'm putting it in my spare phone (s3) which I'm only going to use at the gym when I get my hands on this beast. I have a Sandisk ultra 64gb I'm going to use for the note 3.

Be careful, there's a lot of fake cards on ebay. People don't find out until they start filling them up and start getting errors.

Agreed but @ $11 I wouldn't care if it was only a 32gb. The seller has great feedback as well.

Happened to me long time ago. Bought a 16GB way back in the day when memory was much more pricey and thought I got an amazing deal,....card showed 16GB with 15GB of invisible data on it I formatted it with various file type formats to remove whatever mystery files were on there and ended up with a 1GB card,...
Jokes on me though,..I order 3 of them.
