[Q] Is nexus 4 worth the wait in India? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm planning to buy a good smartphone...but I'm in a predicament..
i live in India and according to the review ,the nexus 4 is pretty good phone but the problem is you guessed it's god damn India... Google and LG are taking their own sweet time to bring it to India. Rumors are that it may be released in Jan at mind boggling 32 or even exorbitant 36k ..so my question which is the best available alternative to nexus 4?
Is one x a good alternative?
or is nexus 4 worth the wait for Indian shores(Bangalore customers)
or any good alternative within the range of 28-29k ( in India)?
thank you

For ease, 5k rupees is about 100 bucks approximately. I think best solution might be to have someone you might know in the us bring it over.

Depends on your priorities.
If having a high end android that performs most tasks well is all you care about then go for an s3 or one x.
If having a nexus device, with its updates and ROM development is important then get the n4.
The best option is getting someone to bring it from the US or other countries. The price difference is worth the lack of warranty in my opinion.

My opinion
I am also in the same situation
Lg can become a top player in Indian Market if it set the prices of Nexus 4 16 GB between 24k to 27 K and 8 Gb for 22k to 24k
I would say if it is going to launch above 28K for 16 GB model then i am not buying it as i will be stuck with 16 GB .
I would have bought it for 30 K also had it supported USB OTG .
So i would request Lg to price the phone intelligently as it will help them in the long run.
Lg Nexus 4 is worth the wait only if it is priced correctly

Right time to buy a Nexus 4 or wait?

Hey everyone,
I'm considering to buy a new Phone. My current phone is the HTC Desire, which I use for about 2.5 years now.
Would your recommend buying a Nexus 4 now or is it worth waiting for the X-Phone or the next Nexus device? Some sources claim, that we will see those devices around June, after Google's developer conference. I definitely want a pure Google device.
The thing that is holding me back is that it we are about to allot new gen devices in the near future, with the new iteration of specs. (1080p display, Snapdragon 600 and 800...) So it seems to be a good idea to wait another 3 months or so...
What do you think?
Newer technology is always around the corner, you will wait forever if you always wait for the Next Big Thing. How easy will it be to get one of these as-yet-unreleased phones, and how much will they cost?
The N4 is available right now, at a bargain price, and will be a big step up from your Desire ...

After Upgrading from a HTC Desire Z, my only regret is that i didn't buy it sooner.

I think that all of those devices will be non nexus, bloated, at the mercy of the Manufacturer devices. And for what? More processing power to view your email? The screens may be nice tho. I don't see why you'd need 1080p on a less then 5in screen tho...
After owning this phone three weeks. I can't see going back to a carrier bloated samsung, HTC, or moto phone.
Look at the galaxy nexus, last year's hardware and it's still one of the smoothest and fastest phones because of pure android. The nexus 4 will hold its value too, it's only 349, don't buy the 8gb. You can always sell on ebay if you don't like it and come out even right now and I have a feeling n4 will keep selling on ebay for close to what you pay from Google. The only issues I have with the n4 is the camera is just not as good in poor lighting as my s3 was, other than that it's great. It's the best deal in Tech. Compared to the desire it's going to be ridiculous.

The right time is now OP. As others have said there is ALWAYS a newer phone with more impressive specs around the corner. With that mindset you will be waiting forever. I realize you dont want to buy the nexus 4 now and a few weeks later the next nexus device is announced. eh "such is life" OP
I'm pretty happy with mine. I'm coming from a Bionic.
I still probably will consider the x phone but this is certainly a solid enough device that I won't feel the need to jump ship the day it is released.

I just got mine on Tuesday (ordered Saturday) to replace my Galaxy Nexus - best decision I've made as the higher DPI alone makes it better IMO
OK, 1080p screens are nice and that but I don't need it as I don't watch films/play games on my phone

Yes on a 50 a month, the device itself costs about $580 plus tax and shipping about $610, anyways the nexus 4 I will have to pay 50 a month to use it too, so nexus is $299 + $10 shipping and about $23 tax is about $342 vs $610 of the S4

Hi, $300 difference is pretty big The Nexus 4 has A S4 Pro CPU and S4, 600 Snapdragon, so added to to that you a paying 300 more for a Bigger screen, 1080p AMOLED, 13 MP camera and faster Processor also faster LTE and HSPA+
I have both phones I would not worry about specs. The N4 out performs s4 any day of the week. It also looks premium and much nicer. However it has no SD card, crappy battery life compared to s4 and even a crappier camera plus no LTE which are some major negatives. If you don't care about those things then N4 is better.
It's up to you to get the phone, Think about it, You are going to have a phone for a long time so better if you get the best instead of getting stuck with what the nexus 4 can only offer. I do have the S4 and If you have the money go for it in The long run the 300 dollars are 100% worth it. Trust me

Thanks Guys I just bought the S4!
Here is a good breakdown on the differences: http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Samsung-Galaxy-S4,Google-Nexus-4/phones/7597,7531
For me it came down to extras not justifying the expense. For others it may be worth it. Main differences IMHO are 13MP vs 8MP camera, 5" Supset AMOLED vs 4.7" IPS LCD display, microSD card slot and branded vs unbranded android.

if you like waiting forever for updates then get the s4. if u like to be on the latest and greatest version of android then get the n4. :highfive:
If I remember correctly, the gs4 may be released on the play store with stock android soon.
That said, I have an n4 on t-mobile with lte enabled & I just recently bought my mom a gs4 on Verizon. They are both very nice phones. I prefer the n4 but the gs4 is impressive as well.
I don't think you can go wrong with either phone except that a branded gs4 will inevitably suffer in the update department.
If possible, I would recommend stopping by a T-Mobile store where you should be able to play around with both phones to see if either stands out to you.
Good luck!

I wouldn't recommend the GS4 to anyone - it's a complete lagfest.
The N4, even though 6 months older still remains the fastest and smoothest phone out there.
For the price of a GS4 you could buy the Nexus 4 right now and even the Nexus 5 in Oct/Nov if Google keep their prices the same.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Snapdragon S4p and S600 are identical GPU wise and are not very far when the N4 is on an appropriate ROM with optimizations. In the benchmark thread here people score 23K+ in antutu. Anyway I would not spend over $200 more for just a alight spec bump when the nexus is a better value.

That's true. But the way I look at it is a bit different. The price difference is 300$; which is another nexus. Assuming the nexus 5 is going to be priced at $300. I will have a n4 and a n5 for roughly the same price as one s4. Regardless, you cannot go wrong with either choice. Both are great phones
Seriously who would even consider buying a Samsung device over a N4.
Even with those better specs, they mean nothing. Who cares over a 1080p screen, 13mp, and whatnot. The difference is marginal and for most not even noticable.
So save your money, buy an N4. And stop getting excited over the latest specs, because they're marginal improvements anyway.
Might as well be a fanboy and go and buy a new Apple/Samsung phone each year then and be a dipstick and waste 700 euro on phone's that are produced for less then 100 euro, just because it has something "new and ""great"" that the N4 doesn't have.
Bought my N4 last months, it has specs that will last another 2-3 years for most.
You should probably wait because there is going to be an s4 with the snapdragon 800 SoC.

Well I got my old Nexus 7 2012 for $199 USD from staples, it was on sale their after the new Nexus 7 released. I've decided to keep the old Nexus 7, but if you're deciding to get which, I would suggest you get the new nexus either 16 GB or 32 GB. It is worth the wait and its very fun to hold and its fast also. But if you grow impatient then buy the old one 32 GB, that tablet is actually more than you need.

So Do you think the problems which are occuring in new nexus will be fine after the updates of google. Those multiotuch & GPS issues are very frightening & making me if new nexus comes I can loose the low cost old nexus which is having no issues .
Only New nexus is promising few things as below :
1. Better resolution/display
2. Fast processor
In rest everything old nexus seems fine like new.
Yes the issues are fixed, at least I think they issued a patch to address that. If not, it is a big issue that will get addressed quickly. If you can afford the new one get that, the latest and greatest is always the best. With that said I have a 2012 version and have zero complaints.

16 GB Moto G costs 199 $ in US i.e. Rs 12500 approx. So it will not be less than Rs 15000 here I'm planning to get one from US
Looking at the Nexus 5 pricing and as they will have to include headphones in the box as per Indian law, I think 16gb will cost around 18k. I hope Motorola prices it close to 15k.
Moto G 8GB is available for Rs.15,990 and 16GB for Rs.17,990 at eBay India including all taxes and import duties. It was imported from US.

People who import products from US/UK often won't care about warranty which we won't surely get. But the seller who is selling US Moto G 8GB and 16GB on eBay India is saying he is giving one year warranty and 10 day replacement guarantee. ALWAYS enquire the seller before buying on eBay.
But at the moment its the cheapest option available instead of importing manually for who can't wait for the official launch of Moto G in India.
16 - 17K
Right now, Moto G costs 200USD [16GB version]

Where did you get that 30% tax figure from?
It's 6%... and there are some other charges too. But OEMs import in bulk.. it is subsidized.
It'll effectively be around 10-15% tops
prices of smartphones in india are almost same as in UK, where 16gb versions costs about 16K (inr), so adding a charger+Dual Sim+Headphones may increase price upto 2K so i think 16-18K is a good guess for 16gb version in india. Also if they launch single sim version without charger and headphones, it would be a better option
If they do price it at 16-18K then I don't think its going to sell a lot. The Micromax canvas 4 is a good deal at around 16K. And there are a ton of other phones cheaper than that with better specs.
Altough the Moto G will get KitKat faster and will be the one supported by the community more.

nope.. 16.5k for single-SIM 16 GB, without charger & headphones.
Here's how I calculated-
Nexus 5 : Moto G
= $349 : $199
= Rs 28999 : Rs 16535
(come on! Congress won't lower the taxes)
And of course warranty will be there because it'll be "officially launched" like Nexus 5 (not like Nexus 4).
P.S.- I think, we would get more of dual-SIM ones (expectedly costing Rs 1.5k more) before single-SIM ones become readily available.
By then if Nexus 4 drops to 20k, it wud be a more sensible buy than Moto G.

but that was about ancient feature phones (non-android RAZR, ROKR, etc.)
Despite Qualcomm chipset & Gorilla Glass 3, Moto G is priced quite low, which means all other components are cheap and as bad as LG's.
So, in terms of durability Nexus 4 should be as good as Moto G.
Had Moto G been costlier, we could have considered it to be more durable than Nexus 4, but not now.
Anyway.. if Nexus 4 sticks to 21.5k and Moto G costs no more than 16.5k, then of course Moto G will be the winner.

Technically, tax isn't applied on imports! Its only the shipping charge and customs levied (if a relative sends you the device, then no customs). So, basically it should be 14-15K max.

Buy N7 or wait for N8?

Hi guys/gals,
I can pick up n7 for £179 but is it worth waiting for n8?
I know price will be 300 or thereabouts as screen increase but would the extra cpu and ram and maybe resolution make it worth it for 1" bigger screen?
Thanks
There is no reason for waiting for N8,since it's just a rumour d no official word on it. A new Nexus device probably launch with a new version of android & expect it around June or July. So waiting for N8 may be worthless.
Still Nexus 7 2013 is an awesome device & you will love your new purchase. E179 is an awesome deal & you should definitely grab it

More than the extra inch in screen size, something worth the wait could be the possible change in the aspect ratio if they will move from 16:10 to 3:2. However this change isn't confirmed and so it simply depends on your current needs. July is 5 months away from now. If the market price will be higher than all the previous launch prices for N tablets, the SoC could even be something nice and new like the Snapdragon 805 and so worth the wait.
Yeah SoC upgrade will be worth it.
My only not sure area is as I already have a Asus TF300T (yes it is a slow hog) I can still use it for videos etc while at home fine. I just need something portable for trains so dont want to spend over £200 on that as already have 10" tab. So the fact that the N8 if made wont be same price as N7 at launch I doubt I can spend that much.
Thanks guys
Only thing that would be worth the wait in my opinion is if:
# they add a digitizer for pen input
# possibly a more efficient battery (not necessarily bigger)
# 64 bit chip with the necessary RAM upgrades to see the actual boosts in performance
The Nexus 7 2013 still flies as it is. I doubt there will be pen input and 64 bit tablets at the moment still only see around 2 GB of RAM.
I'd go with the Nexus 7. Just my 2 ¢ents!

£179 for a N7 is good I think. Doubt N8 will drop to that price less then a year of release!
If the next nexus is made by ASUS, I'm not buying it. I'll switch to LG or Samsung. Both my nexus 7s from 2012 and 2013 have had frustrating touch screen issues that eventually make me not want to use them for anything but reading books.

I would imagine that a gently used 32gb Nexus 7 2nd gen would sell for more than $100 even after the Nexus 8 is announced.
But anyways, yes you make a valid point and that is what I was suggesting in my prior post. Very interested to see nexus 8 though. I will probably be content though.
Agreed. After returning N7 fhd in July, got a much better one in Nov. but still interested in the N8 if, indeed, one comes to fruition.

R U sure there is still N8?

Still just a rumor, but most expect a new N10 and a N8.
