[Q] Where is Developer Options and USB Debugging? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Wow, I know I'm not going crazy. I've unlocked my phone and now trying to root it, yet when I go into the Nexus 4 settings I dont see Developer options so that I can turn on USB Debugging.
Am I going crazy? Is there a trick that I just havent found yet although I feel I've searched everywhere? Can anyone help?

Press about phone 7 times in setting.

You must be joking? I'm not, Developer options is non existent in settings. I've even downloaded a USB Toggle yet it wont turn on.

Its a hidden option. Like the previous poster said go into settings and find about phone then tap on about phone 7 times fast and it will unhide the developer options.

It is actually "settings>about phone>build number", then hit 7 times.

Well, I was a little confused with hitting the About phone 7 times, but clicking the build number 7 times makes more sense. Why in the world does the developers of Android have to drive you crazy by all of the sudden hiding important menus. errr.

From the sounds of it he already know something about android. Just leave it alone. He probably knows enough not to use it. Besides, the settings there are not dangerous.

Why does it matter if they are there or not? They aren't hurting anything just being there and if you don't know anything about android you are better off just living with it.

Thanks guys, I hope he will learn to use them reading what you guys do,

Go and open developer options. On the top right corner there should be a switch to turn it off. I'm on a custom rom and I can't remember if this option is on stock rom. Worth a look.
If he wants the screen full Jelly Beans he needs to tap the Android Version.

It's generally harmless.
Just thought I'd point out that the hidden developer options thing is kinda new to android, previous versions (ICS and below I believe) all had the developer options menu there right from the start, it's only since jellybean that they decided that you need to tap the build thing a couple of times to make it show.
Don't worry about it

Please refer to my screenshot above. I'm still not getting it.
Those advanced settings are part of CyanogenMod which then show up in other ports of that ROM
When you scroll down more? There should be a section about call settings to make sure call waiting is on.
Dunno, my phone makes the normal "beep" sound when I have call waiting so either something you have disabled it or something else is screwed up. If nothing works soon then i'd say do a FULL format and reinstall 4.2.2 from the Google factory image and see how that goes.

Can't Access Dev Settings.

I don't have an option for developer settings at all. I went into "about tablet" and tapped the build number 7 times, it said I was a developer. Hit the back button, no option for Developer settings above "about tablet". Running 4.2.2, Nexus 7 16GB Wifi only.
Either I am really really dumb, or my Nexus is being weird.
Any help is welcome.
Go in the about menu. Tap the build number until it say "you are now a developper".

Did they hide that menu for any particular reason in the update? I wonder why custom roms don't have it automatically enabled...

Its hidden to keep those who have no business messing with those options from inadvertantly doing so.

Settings 4 tabs

I've seen it discussed a couple of times how people are enjoying the new settings tabs that are organized in 4 parts. I don't have that on my new note 3. It looks exactly as it did on my note 2. Am I missing something or maybe a check box that should be checked?
I'm stock (of course) and in 'about phone' it says 4.3
Any help would be appreciated...

GENIUS! i've been seeing it in lots of videos for the international versions and other hands on clips, but wondered why it was that we didn't have the same menu. thanks for pointing it out! :good:
It's interesting that many people hate the 4 tabbed settings and cant switch to the single page vzw users have, and vzw users want the 4 tabbed settings lol. At least we have both options.

I wonder how this would compare legally to fingerprint/pin lock in regards to being compelled to unlock your device.

Don't think it would be any different than the other "trusted" options like face, location, and on-body. They are just smart compliments to backup pin/pattern locks.
Has anyone here received this update yet? I've been anxiously awaiting its arrival or been searching for an APK download. Looking forward to trying it out.
installed the latest, and it seemed to disable all security options... i would hold off

im running terminus. but the stock options are just like the ones i posted. either euphoria is missing some files/code, or you somehow are. find out if other euphoria users have ok google working with the screen off and unplugged. if its just euphoria, now a days its easily fixable.

it would have to be fixed/enabled in the rom. but you might have a temporary solution, if it still works. i started a thread last year about this, and not working on aosp roms. until we finally found a solution to it(just some missing files in aosp source). check out the thread, yes its old now, but you might find a temporary solurion in there that will work for you. and please ask, thats the only way we will find out if its the rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/ok-google-everywhere-aosp-rom-t2963716
