Help nexus 4 screen protector sknomi and xtremeguard - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I purchased sknomi techskin and xtremeguard.
Now the sknomi comes with that spray you spray on the backside of the screen protector and front side.
My question are:
1.What is the spray made of?
2,Can I refill it?
3. Can I use the spray on other screen protectors?
4. If I do spray it, will it work the same way it did on Sknomi?
Please answer these and by numbers and thanks.

I believe it's mostly water and a tiny bit of soap. You can refill it yourself... I have the Skinomi and it even said on the bottle to just refill it with water; there's enough residual solution for many refills...

Hi thanks for answering but can I use on other screen protectors? like xtreme?

I don't see why you couldn't... I'm sure if there would be adverse reactions the manufacturer with of warn against using other brands of solution...

Yes, it's fine. All the wet application protectors use a very similar soap+water mixture so there should be no issues at all using any solvent with any screen protector that is meant to be wet for application.

included screen protector??

i just got my touch pro and have no idea how to apply the included screen protector...any help??
Generally speaking, this is the "standard" application method:
http://www.martinfields.com/video/Application.mpg
There are some tricks to help prevent air bubbles, such as this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewH-xONFN3Y
I went with a slightly different procedure I learned elsewhere. I filled a small bowl with about 1" of warm water, added a drop of mild, non-scented hand soap, and mixed it up so that there were few bubbles in the water. Placed the screen protector in the water to give it a good "wash" (to remove any dust). Then removed it from the water, shook off some of the excess drops, and applied it to the screen like normal.
The warm water made the film a bit more flexible which made it easy to squeeze out any trapped air, and the soap made it a slippery so it was easier to re-align. Once the protector was in place, I used a micro-fiber cloth to push most of the water drops out to the edge. There were a couple "dark" spots where water was still trapped, but they evaporated in about a day -- the important thing was to not have any air bubbles. The result:
Of course, you don't have to do something as complicated as I did. The real piece of advice is to just be very patient as you apply it.
im having a hard time separating the protector to reveal the adhesive side...i have been trying the last 30 mins with no luck at all only adding smudges to the protector and creasing it
someone plz help!!!!
Try to use your fingernails (if you have short fingernails, it's going to be a lot tougher). If that doesn't work, you can try a a super smal tear that will only rip a bit of the paper and not the protector.
i made a tear in the top part (above actual protecto) it seems like its only one layer...p.s. why does it include so many extra pieces of plastic??
Leant from a guy who applied for me in a shop in Hong Kong.
In addition to above mentioned tips, try to use sticky tape rather than your fingers to contact the screen protector.
You can also use sticky tape to stick out the dust.
When applying use something like a credit card to push bubbles out.
when i apply the screen protectors, i normally wash the adhesive side of the protector, then drop a few droplets of water on the screen; when you put the protector on the screen, you can then squeeze the bubble out with ease using credit card or just coin, and adjust the position to fit within 3 hours.
they should have included at least a PDAir type brand, not to mention a martin fields so that won't make our life like a living hell
I had completely no trouble applying the protector, without any soap or water.
It's a sticker... You just bend it in right direction, and the 'inner' plastic surface (protector itself) will pop off the base surface, leaving plastic frame around.
It's important no to place it flat on the device, but align one edge with screen edge, and while keeping it bent, apply evenly, going slowly from aligned edge to the other. No bubbles this way.
Even if you have bubbles, you can 'squeeze' them (move) to the side of screen and let them out.
Thanks to this thread, I discovered now that I also got these 2 included screen protectors in the package ;-)
Now, is it advised to apply both the protectors or only one?

I personally went one step further and put on latex gloves to avoid fingerprints and smudges. Also doing this in a damp/humid/steamy room like your bathroom helps avoid dust particles from swirling down onto the screen or the protector.
Hmmm... talk of condoms, latex gloves, and steamy rooms... let me just check if I'm still in the right forum!

such measures are not really necessary to apply a screen protector... i applied mine on a carpet in my room (which i havent clean in ages ), as long as you are careful, you can do it dust-free...
turn on the hot water in your bathtub, close the doors and vents, the room will be steamy in minutes. slap on the leather and bring out the whip, then you are set
Shall I pull the protector off the big plastic sheet so both sides get exposed to the water? Doesn´t the glue dissappear then?

Hi:
Unfortunately I can't afford my new Fuze til next month, but I have been doing ALOT of reading up, so I'll be ready when I get it. I have seen many people say that a screen protector is included, same has been said in the reviews I have read online. You can also check out this unboxing video, where you can see the screen protector: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWNK2lXl9I4

How to remove screen protector?

I have few bubbles between my HD screen and the screen protector and i would like to remove it.
tried with my fingernails but it didn't work. i just can't take out this screen protector and i don't want to damage
my screen by using some sharp tool.
What can i do?

Use some kind of sticky tape. Stick it on near a corner and useit to lift the protector.
Great idea. Thanks.
can you aply the screen protector that came with the HD more then once?
I think you probably could, but would need some an alchohol solution of some sort to reapply.
Personally i have a insivible shield by zagg which protects the whole phone for about £15.
I would suggest trying harder with fingernails, the protector is thicker than you think and i got mine off with a bit of a fight

Personally I thought the zagg one was rubbish. It was very difficult to get it to cover the screen properly and the surrounding chrome bits with one single piece of plastic. I just bought the Clarivue anti-glare screen protector. I'll report on it when it arrives

Yes you can reuse them. Just gently wash the protector with hand soap and water (try not to bend it, keep it flat in your hand) and shake the excess water off and reapply.
A word of caution for those removing the screen protector using sticky tape.. I did that and got the top coating layer peeled off. Cry man...

I have the Invisible Shield fitted to mine , very nice and turns the rear of the phone Glossy Black, installing is fiddly but just be Patient, I had a few Bubbles in mine on the edges of the screen where there is a slight lip but after about a week its dried out and pretty perfect, I would recommend this shield to anyone who wants alot of protection, There are installation video's on the Zagg site which I would recommend watching First as the Palming tecnique on the corners is a must.
Hope this Helps
do they ship to Uk? or can u buy this shield in Uk? not a copy, but the official one, as looks impressive
Yesterday I started thread about if it is possible to scratch the display with the stylus..because i draw on my unit and I love it
And I was little worried that it may happen..people said that it not very likely to scratch but I may happen if some dust comes under the stylus tip or etc...
So I said OK I am cool...didn't apply it because it was too late and went to sleep...but I took my device to play a little more with it and what have I found?? SCRATCH!!! OMG...luckily just a little one but he is there, 455hole..
So today i wanted to apply the screen protector, first time in my life, it was pain the 455, I still couldnt get the bubbles out and blah blah..the nI touched the adhesive side and it got so dirty and ow damn
But as jdlorinser says, I hope it can be cleaned and reapplied...dont want to throw out just like that...
so this is my story
tip..
go to the bathroom,to put on the screen protector..WHY? because it's the most dust free aria in the house.
Don't use the protector that came with the hd,but buy a better one.
I use brando protector...This one is ant scratch, removable and washable...
just a tip.

What should I use to clean the screen?

I just got a Skinomi protector for it and I am trying to clean the screen first and all I get is worse smears. I tried a micro-fiber cloth and a soft cotton towel and all I seem to see is even more smears. I want to put the protector on a perfectly clean screen.
Good question since my Skinomi is in shipment. I thought about trying those "electronic equipment wipes" you can buy everywhere that come individually packaged like alcohol wipes.
If that doesn't work, I'm open to suggestions too.
Its Glass so Maybe a Type of Glass cleaner and a micro Fiber Towel. Spray the towel not the tablet of course. If not They have Electronic wipes like at target and best buy in tv sections.

lil tip for instal. clean and prep nicely. do the install in your bathroom with steam in the air to keep the lint and dust from the air. and dont panic if it looks like crap right after. leave it for a solid day or 2 then it will look good. even if you have some lint under the skinomi it will strt to look alright after the first day. at least it did with mine. i thought i had messed mine up but it looks quite nice now.

You can use LCD cleaning solution on the screen with a very soft lint-free cloth.
I've used it for years before I apply anything on my screens and it works perfectly.
You only use 1-2 sprays max at about 12 inches away.
Compusa/Staples/etc all normal stores have it.
When I put the back on my Skinomi, I used a light detergent (the size of a pea) and a damp cloth to clean the back surface down, then used the cleaning solution, dried it, and the sticker adhered without a single edge lifting up.
just mix some alcohol in some water and use that... use less than 50% alcohol in the solution.... same stuff as most lcd cleaners.

It's not really a tablet screen - it's a sheet of some of the most durable glass currently made by man... it should be fine with any cleaning solution really. The LCD solutions are simply formulated to avoid harming the PLASTIC sheet over most LCD devices (i.e. TV's, laptops, etc.) since stuff like alcohol can cause some plastics to get cloudy over time.
The Transformer doesn't have a plastic sheet over its screen, just the Gorilla Glass, so use whatever as long as it's not so wet as to drip into the system.
Some glass screens have a oleophobic coating to repel oils. Some chemicals can remove those coatings. I'm not sure if the transformer has this coating but I just use 30% alcohol then a microfiber cloth. That's been working fine.

No, the OP is asking how to clean the gorilla glass screen before putting on the screen protector.
The Transformer has a coating, so anything slightly corrosive will remove it, exposing the glass and making the surface hard to swipe.

Getting rid of the oleophobic coating-How?

Hey guys,as title says(kind of anyway),I've had enough of the oleophobic coating on the SGS2.Fingerprints stay on screen no matter(I have very oily skin, unfortunately) and it's not any better than my Desire HD for that matter. Not that it bothers me for that, but it SCRATCHES like hell.I already have more fine scrathces on my GS2 after 2 weeks than on my DHD after 7 months. So I want to remove the oleophobic coating.
Now,I know it's done somehow by cleaning the screen using certain cleaning stuff, but what cleaning stuff? Can I use a window cleaner or something? And should I wipe it with a fiber cloth?
Thanks guys!

OP, take my advice , do NOT do it! You think the coating is not helping, wait till you remove it! It will be 100 times worse, literally!
If you do decide to rid the screen of the coating - I succeeded (on SGS1) with Chlorine toilet bowl cleaning liquid, but be very careful to not get it inside speakers/mikes. All the scratches remained though, mine were in the glass, not the coating.
You want that coating on there. Just get a screen protector and maybe a matte one if the finger prints bother you.
Damn,I hate screen protectors...
KreoXDA,mine are most probably not on the glass itself.I can't feel them with my fingernail(And I have long fingernails on my right hand-classic guitar player anyone? ) like I could with such scratches on other phones.Anyway,I'll see if I can find some good screen protector. All I've used just crapped all over my touchscreen experience.I'd try Zaggs, but guess what!NOT available in Greece!I''m losing my patience here...

Also, what do you mean that Zaggs are the worst for sensitivity? Is it harder to select something on the screen with a protector on?

zaggs are the thickest screen protectors on the market!, they ruin the touchscreen experience, they DO block fingerprints well though. they also have the 'orange peel' effect on them.
woops, the SGP steinheil ones arent available *yet*

When I got burgled the police said finger prints actually very difficult to pickup because finger tips don't have sweat glands. Relies on someone touching their face or hair or rubbing their palms together. This its not meant to be pointed comment but as you offered a reason, Try doing less of that

Well,I'll try and touch my face less. When I sweat(especially now in the summer with the high temperatures) it gets oily like hell.It will get better with time(It's a puberty thing partially like acme),but for now it's killing me.

What i do is clean the screen with my shirt so now and then. Some days its worse then others...
Can I ask how you guys manage to scratch your screen? I've got *very* long nails (I'm a girl ), never bother with screen protectors and I've yet to scratch a screen (HD2 stayed pristine for over 18 months, so is the S2 after a month) and shock horror, I don't always put my phone in a case before flinging it in my handbag though it's usually in a separate pocket... Guys hands tend to have more dirt (from putting their hands on the bench, on the ground or at the beach). As a result, there will be one or two tiny sand particles which then scratches the screen when they use the phone.

did you try alcohol and windex?
alcohol will remove the oleophobic coating, but very slowly. you'll end up with a haze.
i used meguiar's scratchx 2.0 to remove a scratch, not realizing there was a coating. result was a hazy ring where i had removed the coating.
tried rainx, with improved the slick feel but also caused more of the haze effect (alcohol). ended up using scratchx to remove the whole coating, using a flashlight to check, and putting a realook protector on. luckily the result is fantastic.
that said, don't remove any coating unless you really really have to. it doesn't seem like it but it is way better at preventing smudges than just glass.

You can test for youself though. Wash you hands with antibacterial soap and dry them with and air handdryer. Hold your hand steady for 10 minutes without touching anything and then see i you'll leave prints on you phone

Whitestone Dome Screen Protector Lifting

Hello, I'm currently on my 3rd Whitestone Dome glass but have experienced some form of lifting of the glass on the right side of the protector. I've heard it may be from a lack of curing from the glue but I've shown the UV light on the device extra long during the application process, so I'm not sure if that's the case. Has anybody else had some experiences like this, and is this issue fixable? Thanks!
You could just take it off, remove the glue from the protector and install it again if you have extra loca glue.

I actually do not have a case on my phone.
the upper left corner of mine is lifting up as well. No case either... just a skin
I've had the same on 3 freshly applied screenprotectors. Despite extra curing the screenprotectors after applying, the screenprotector starts to lift within a week on at least 2 corners. And i do not use a case. Under the lifted corners there seems to be a liquid substance underneath as if the glue wasn't cured enough. As told earlier i applied extra curing and it seemed that the glue had become solid. What could be the cause here?
I've given up on screen protectors...just not worth time effort and $$ spent.
