Some issue found on SG Note 2 so far... - Galaxy Note II General

Hi,
Being using N2 for about 3 weeks. Below are some issue that i encountered..
1) During sleep to awake or lock screen to unlock screen, there is a white thin line of light flashes at bottom screen just above the home button.
Very fast, maybe just a sec. This happens sometimes and intermittent. And had tried many units of N2 and having same issue.
2) Sometimes when after wifi used or signal loss. When you return to normal signal using data network, the data network will not be
on automatically until you switch to airplane mode and switch back to normal mode, then the data network signal reappear.
So far it happen on both me and my wife N2.
3) Some area on the Samsung Qwerty keyboard is not so sensitive or not so accurate.
Among all the above, i hope all is nothing related to the hardware. Hope all of the above Samsung will help to address and resolve by software updates.
Anyone seeing the above symptom please reply to this thread
Thanks

1) nope it's never happened to me. Maybe you've got a faulty set. U tested many units and most of them got that? Hmm.
2) mobile data comes right back after I disable wifi. Was it like this when u first used the device?
3) are u using any sp? Matte type which is thicker in nature could be the cause as samsung recommends not to use sp

Hi,
For 1 and 2, most units happens. And also Samsung service inform me its software and will be resolved in next update.
Like I said, its intermittant.someone may have not notice it.
Thanks

I have found that while in camera mode I have some sort of horizontal lines on the screen. It was the same on the first galaxy note
Second, the pen is scratched. I have barely used it.

Mine dosent suffer from any of these problems if Im honest or Ive never noticed them.

Mine neither. Perhaps you received a faulty unit, OP?

Hi,
That's good with no problems. As I mentioned it happens to mine and my frens phone. Maybe the stock rom and kernel is different from my place and your place.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium

Non of the above mentioned or non mentioned problems occured...

I'm on stock kernel and rom. Only No.2 happens to me.

Never experienced any of that.

At any given time Samsung can have a dozen "latest" ROMs and radio out for a single device based on region. OPs s/w could be different than what's on other people's phones. So it is possible the stock ROM/radio s/he's using could have issues where other people's wouldn't. It's happened on the Note 10.1 a couple of times already.

I agree with that.

Hi,
To make people clear on issue#1 stated above. Please refer to the video link. Please focus on the bottom screen near home button for the light flashes during sleep to awake or lock screen to unlock screen.http://youtu.be/zB5FkxRZ4EI

Screen Goes Crazy

I've had my Note for under a month now. I've been ever so careful with it. My heart skipped a beat when one day, all of a sudden, the screen just went mad!
I scoured the Web but couldn't find any other instance of this but the other day, in another thread, a few people have said that they've experienced the same problems. It's happened to my friends phone as well. I thought both of us were sold defective pieces to be honest but it looks like a global issue.
This is not just a case of screen flicker and screen changing colours on a white background. It goes haywire! Almost like the old television sets with their rainbow effect.
This has happened pre and post ICS; so it's definitely not a software issue. It has to be a hardware defect.
When I tried taking a screen shot of it, it just took a screen shot of the app I was using before the madness began.
It happened again last night. This time, fortunately or unfortunately, the screen stayed that way till I hit the power button. I had enough time to take a photo of it using a friends phone. Check it out :

got this once when i upgraded from gb to ics, goes away when i turn off the screen and turn it back on again.

Its about some live wallpapers. Same thing happened with me with blue sea lwp after upgraded to ics.
I have this sometimes too, but I don't use live wallpapers so doubt if this has anything to do with it.

+1 I don't use live wallpapers either. Phone's not rooted either. It's probably an issue with the graphics chip. And it seems to be a global issue and not limited to any region as such.

I sure hope you're right because the same thing happened to my laptop once. The screen started flickering this way occasionally and it the frequency increased. In the end, I was told that the chip and the screen needed to be changed. Luckily it was still under warranty at that point.
Just hoping the same thing doesn't happen to this AFTER the warranty lapses!
never experienced this.. i used ICS for 2 days, no sign of this issue back then.. and now im back to GB...
is this what they call pixel salad?
flicker or pixel salad, whataever you name, mostly happens when you end the call or call disconnection...the same happened to me and gone through the logcat and reproduced the same once again..

So is this then a hardware issue? Something to do with the graphics chip? Can't be a software bug right?

With my note it happened a few times.
I am currently running Rocket V7:crying:
funny i have never experienced this before... i've had my note for almost 3 months now
have upgraded to official ICS then root then went back to GB root..
just wondering for those of you who experienced this sort of pixelation, where did you get your note from?? mine was from the the telco when i renewed my contract and seems to me that it is more likely a defective unit..

Honestly, I thought my friend and I were sold defective pieces here but as I mentioned earlier, from the kind of response this thread is getting, it's definitely a global issue.
My unit was manufactured in Vietnam. Bought it at a store here in India. It's probably a case of a batch of defective units. Samsung needs to take stock of this. With their over zealous selling spree, it wouldn't surprise me if someone at the quality testing team was made to look the other way. Conspiracy theory maybe but who knows eh?

How many times did you exhange?

The thread title says it all. How many times did you return your nexus 10 before you received one that was free of defects? I have one that freezes once or twice a day and am considering the exchange process. Luckily I purchased through samsclub and should be able to just go to the store.
None!
Yes mine has light bleed, but on auto brightness in 3 months I have literally NEVER seen it in real life usage unless actually turn the brightness up to 100% and look for it. In actual fact its got better from when I bought it in Feb. As for the lock ups you mentioned, since the last software update and using Chrome Beta I have seen no locks or reboots in at least a month!
I expect your problem is linked to an app not the device itself.

I've tried removing most apps without success including chrome and location services. I guess running with no apps is the next step...
I havent done much research on which apps area causing freezes but I did not find anything on what I have installed. Some notible non-google apps that I am running are:
AiCloud, Amazon store, BankOfAmerica,Calengoo, Discover, File Manager HD, GooManager, GroupMe, Hulu Plus, iHeartRadio, IP Cam Viewer, Md5Checker, MightyText, Mobile Queue, My Netflix Q, OfficeSuite, Speed Test, Swiftkey, UberSync, WD Remote, WeatherBug, Wifi Analyzer, Wordfued, XDA
Once. My original had a sleep of death problem - new one doesn't
Zero
Minor bleed in the left but only seen at 100% brightness
Performance.. Rock solid. I've done 2+ Months without a reboot.

None. I got I in November. It's been perfect since.
None.
Had it since January with absolutely no problems other than the ones I have caused undervolting and tweaking.
None, I also got mine from sams club and its been working great. I was a little worried when I bought it because the seal was broken but I took it back And they said it was to check everything was there. They gave me a different one with a closed seal and were very good about it. I don't think it should be too hard to exchange it and MIME Gantt had any problems so I think you should switch it.

[Q] Note III Vs Ingress!

For those of who play ingress you will be aware of the heavy load it gives to the phone/battery.
I was wondering if any of you have tried this game yet on the note 3? How has it been?
I`m just curious really, looking forward in trying this out when I upgrade but considering my options at the moment.
I get mine today hopefully... I average about 100k in AP a day which translates through to about 2-3 battery recharges for a note 2.

Got my Note 3 the other week and it is a great phone, except the GPS. Coming from the S4, which has a terrific gps, the game is almost unplayable on the Note 3. The position is drifting although I am standing still or freeze when I am moving. Forget about neat deploys.
I actually sent my unit for repairs. Hopefully they can fix it. Right now back on the S4.

Ouch, Gps is a biggy too and bad placements can be a nightmare. Here is hoping that is a one off.
Just to give another opinion:
I played on Saturday and Monday with the Note 3 for the first time (Verizon model), and I had no issues whatsoever. GPS was awesome, battery life was pretty good (~3-4 hours of Ingress probably but not totally sure) and the game (Broot) ran smooth as butter.
So maybe it's possible some models or some units have GPS issues, but I haven't run into any. Granted, I also haven't played in known GPS-cloudy/floaty areas just yet.
I've had some time with mine now and have found the GPS to be quite flaky.
It's pretty much unusable in a moving vehicle, in the CBD around big buildings Its almost impossible to get lock.
I'm hoping we can tweak this because I still *love* the phone.

I`ve managed to see this in action with the Note 3. First off - excellent device for this game.
Interestingly the GPS in the 1st week was good, then it became gradually more laggy with position so the player would "catch up" as he was moving to the edge of the portal. However, reading another thread which highlighted a similar issue with Google maps; installing GPS status - get the aps state download/calibrate and apparently the issue has now gone.
Perhaps some of you have tried this or not but I would give it a try at least as it appears to have solved the odd drift movement.

LG G2 Touch Screen Issues, perhaps software issue?

Hello all,
I think the LG G2 may have a software issue that causes the touch screen to go crazy.

I am having issue sometimes the touch wont register.
I don't know if it's hardware or software.
This is my second day with this phone,i think i am going to the shop for a replacement but not sure if i can replicate the issue in the shop.

Yeah I get weird touch stuff sometimes like you do, I also have issues with the proximity sensor. I read somewhere that LG is rumored to release a fix for the proximity sensor next month, hopefully they fix the touch issues as well.

I am having this issue too! Thought I was the only one. It has been happening very rarely but it even happened the day I brought it home from the store. It only does it every now and then but it happened twice yesterday and it has happened already once today. Very concerning.

You know what that say about the one that tries and tries the same thing expecting a different result lol. I know its not the same
Anyway I just thought I'd throw this here
http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-g2/317709-g2-touch-screen-issues.html
It seems to be a very common problem for those that heavily use their phone with scrolling or dragging as a primary function.
This is just a theory but could the screen either a) get too warm making it a hardware issue or b) software due to something else. The guy in that post thinks its an algorithm that resets its calculation when the screen is reset.
We learned that when it has an episode the temporary fix is to turn off the screen and turn it back on. Thus indicating that its likely a software bug.

I had issues exactly the same as this on my HTC Rezound. I've had this happen here (On my G2) as well. It was happening often and I changed a certain setting and for the life of me can't remember what it was. I think it was show touches. Do you have that enabled when the issue presents itself?

The fact that turning the screen off and then on again seems to fix this leads me to believe it is probably a software glitch, perhaps the touchscreen driver has a memory leak or something of that nature. Hoping this one can be taken care of quickly.
I sometime have this issue when scroll in setting or in Edit quick setting.
Today I know how to make this happen: fast scroll up and down in Edit quick setting for a while and the middle of touch screen becomes unresponsive to touch, I just switch to home screen then go back to fix it.
Don't know is software or hardware issue.
P/S; My phone is LG G2 D802

I think it was show touches. Do you have that enabled when the issue presents itself?

...I have ghost touches... and just becouse this option (show touches) enabled is I could see the ghost fingers .
...then... in the middle of the screen comes this:
I have also seen this in the quick toggles menu sometimes, but never on a webpage, in quickmemo or other places. Just in quicksettings. So it should be a software issue. And Lg should not have made SO many defect phones..
I Just picked up an LG G2 (vzw) and i noticed this issue almost immediately, but again, intermittently as everyone else has stated... I agree that it seems to be software related and hope a patch comes out soon!

[Q] KitKat battery usage way up

I have read where the KitKat upgrade for the G2 is supposed to add speed and increase battery life even further. For me however it seems its the opposite. I have had way worse battery life since installing (pc lg tool) the KitKat update. I was going all day with anywhere from 40 - 30% left when it was finally plugged in for the night, now I am lucky if I make it to the end of the night. At first I thought perhaps it was just in need of a reboot, but I have done that several times since installation and battery times are still worse. What I don't understand is the battery meter says "System" is to blame for 53% cpu time. Before screen time was my number one battery drain, now its just from being on?.... I don't get it.. Anyone else having this issue, or can shed some light?

That's just it, i haven't done anything different. It can't be an app because i haven't installed anything since the upgrade. What bothers me is it seems to be a system process that's causing it.

Location settings/reporting/Google Now on?
Pocket Mode
Not sure if it is something generic across KitKat or if it is specific to my ROM but pocket mode was killing my battery since it was constantly powering my proximity sensors looking for light to unlock the screen.
settings-security-lockscreen notifications-pocket mode.
Hope that helps man

I provided the path above, like I said though not sure if it is specific to the ROM i'm on(PA 4.4.2) or not. It the only real exposure to kitkat that I've had. If it isn't a default kitkat thing i apologize if I got your hopes up. I will say this though, if it is don't get your hopes up. It's rather annoying and a massive battery drain. With it on my phone acted like it had half the battery it does.
I don't have location settings turned on, so google now shows unavailable for location, also I don't have security turned on, so I have no security lock screen notification settings that I could find... I'm assuming this is only on if you are using pin, or pattern lock. Thanks for the suggestions tho... I'm going to keep monitoring it and see how it goes. So far today it seems to have normalized, Android System is only showing 2%, which is more like it.
I'm on Official LG Stock KK and to be truthful the battery life has been pretty bad. Like not really comparable to 4.2.2 and definitely not comparable to vanilla Android(of course). What's the issue? Anyone know?

Had a similar issue. Let It settle for a day or so. If no improvement, that's a pain but go through a factory reset. That should fix it. Did you have a specific setup like root/custom rom before?

I am having serious Bluetooth battery drain even though it has been off. Anyone know how to stop this? Thanks

Will you lose root if you do a factory reset and was this a factory reset from the Stock Recovery or from entering the Settings and inside Backup and Reset menu and then Factory Reset?
