wifi issues on N4 possible fix? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

for those with wifi 'broken' try to change your router settings to WPA2 personal (TKIP+AES) that seems to work for me now,
other settings 'broke' the wifi
this might be just an issue with must me and my router
*spoke too soon: still broken, it only works certain times, mostly it just spins when i try to connecto to online
the wifi icon keeps flashing a black dot... that means the wifi is NOT working right? it should be just a solid blue bars?
on wifi advanced settings, WPS Pin Entry - what is this and do i need to enter that pin on my router?

still no luck with wifi on my network after flashing back to stock 4.2 from 4.2.1
same 'broken' wifi
might be this phone's wifi hardware is incompatible with wDDRT router?
Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/10/09) std
my other wifi devices work perfectly fine, so im really stumped
in phones advance wifi settings it has this WPS entry - what is this and is it somehow not allowing me full wifi?
i can view playstore,, it checks and loads my gMail but it won't connect to websites
it takes so long to download and install apps from playstore, i have to hit cancel, redownload, reinstall to get it working, etc. its not 'instant' like normal 20Mbps wifi should be
ran speedtest.net app and it wont connect to any servers
if anyone has clues to why my wifi is broken, please PM me thanks
it get a blue 3 to 4 bars on wifi signal but it keeps having this 'black' dot flashing in that wifi signal bar, (what is that?)
shows connected to my wifi at 72Mbps at good strength

I found my solution: in my router I unchecked the option WMM (Wi-Fi-multimedia)-settings (2.4GHz b/g/n). After I activated it, my data speeds increased enormously. Try it & report!

Public wifi and my work wifi working perfect with n4. So it definitely my routers wddrt firmware issues with n4... still gottta figure it

My n4 will not connect to any of the WPA2 AP's around here.

I have the opposite problem. I can connect to my WPA2 router at home just fine but cannot connect to the WEP wifi at work. Well, not reliably. I've gotten connected twice, but was unable to recreate the conditions.

I had speed problems with my 5GHz band at home. Connected, but couldn't get over 1Mbps on my 30+ connection. Connected to the 2.4Ghz band and I get significantly faster speeds. Haven't had problems connecting though.

I've noticed similar behavior, seems like my 5ghz signal strength is much weaker than my 2.4ghz signal according to my n4.

So this n4 is picky about. Certain WiFi networks.configs

Sometimes, my N4 loses wifi connection at work. It's inconsistent. My work wifi is open but MAC filtered.
There have been 3-4 times when I noticed that it lost wifi connection. I had to turn off wifi radio and back on to reconnect.
OTOH, connection to home DD-WRT wifi router is rock solid.

Set lease time for as long as possible, it normally this is 2 weeks..

Hello, I am also having problems with WIFI. I've tried a lot of things (change the router configuration, the cellular exchange kernel, etc ...) but I could not fix this problem. Can you give any more ideas? I've even thought about buying another router but can be giving the same problem.
I used my wife's phone as a router and it works normally, but when I connect directly to the router from home and he trasfere data only for a few moments and then transferring data, although still seem the symbol of wifi connected.

I found changing a setting on the Nexus 4 seems to have remedied most of my WiFi issues. Forcing the WiFi frequency band to 2.4GHz only instead of Auto appears to have done the trick for me.
In WiFi if you select Settings and Advanced under Wi-Fi frequency band there is an option to force 5GHz or 2.4GHz with the default on Auto.

ICS WiFi Issue: Possible Fix?

I updated my UK Galaxy Note on Vodafone, yesterday. Immediately encountered a WiFi issue. The connection to my wireless router kept disconnecting then connecting, but sometimes didn't actually even connect. I changed the WiFi frequency band setting (Settings>Wi-Fi>Advanced>Wi-Fi frequency band) from "Auto" to "2.4 GHz only" and this seems to have fixed it. It seems like common sense, but I thought I'd post it anyway as people are having issues with their WiFi on ICS.

I had a similar problem. I have a cisco linsys router.
Anyway I flashed the latest modem LR1 using PC odin (modem.bin) and things seem better so far.....

Changing Wi-Fi frequency band) from "Auto" to "2.4 GHz only" didn't fix it for me. Strangest thing is i have no problem with wifi at work while it doesn't work at home wifi. Notebooks get connected to internet at home with no problems when my Note connects wifi but only connects to internet for few secs after first time it gets connected. Then it loses connection to internet even though it still shows up wifi is connected. Any clue on that ?
I've noticed I've been having momentary WiFi disconnections ever since I upgraded to ICS.
I'm using MyPhoneExplorer to transfer files wirelessly to the device (not via USB), and ever since ICS it has became an unreliable way to transfer files. If I transfer a big file most chances are that the WiFi connection will drop during the transfer, causing it to fail.
The connection is restored immediately but then I have to restart the transfer process as it halts when the connection fails.
I have excellent signal level (physically located close to the Access Point), I tried flashing the latest modem firmware (XXLR1) - twice, I've set "2.4GHz only" in the WiFi advanced settings, all to no avail: I still get these connection drops.
Has anybody got any information about this problem? Been experiencing similar problems?
Thanks!

"Internet connection too slow" notification

Hey kids.
I came from the S3 the beginning of November. One of the "new" annoyances I've come across is a notification that the wifi connection Internet speed is too slow. Which is bull. The only way to reconnect after that is to reboot. Sometimes enabling airplane mode does it as well. So my question is twofold. Has anyone else come across this? Has anyone figured out how to turn this stupid setting off?
Thanks in advance.
♢NoteIII♢
I haven't encountered any of these problems. My Wi-Fi signal it's weak at times, but when I have a good connection internet speed is fast
If I helped hit thanks!!
im not saying this will fix your problem, but i was getting these messages as well. I switched my wifi power saving off via service menu. I also changed my router band from 2.4ghz to 5ghz 40 bandwidth and i havnt seen the message in about 2 weeks.

Thanks. Actually did the power save to off this morning. Happened again this afternoon. As far as switch to 5ghz, I've found that my wifi signal's reach gets cut by about 20-30 feet on that band. Which means I lose reception in part of my basement. I can move my router more centrally in the house, but overall speed suffers (goes from a solid 8-10mbps connection to about 1.5 mbps) cuz the wiring to that receptical is sketchy.
I can get that stupid message in the same room as the router.

yeah 5ghz band will cut your signal strength in half probably. Maybe buy a dual band wireless access point? Its wierd that your speed goes down on 5ghz. Mine practically doubled on my note 3. My house connection is 100mbps / 5mps. On 2.4ghz i can only get up to 30 mbps, when i enabled 5ghz wifi, i shot up to ~110mbps down.

that's ridiculous... buy another router or access point? Its the phone, not the internet, when you get the notification when you're right next to the router. The Note 3 is the only device on my house giving me Wi-Fi issues. Sorry I don't mean to sound like an arse, but it seems silly to buy a phone and have to replace your router, when everything else works just fine with the WiFi signal.
Just to clear up, speed goes down when I connect to the other phone plug. So my router (brand new, furnished by internet provider) is on one side of my house. And this happened before moving in mid Nov as well. Before was cable Internet, now dsl. It's the best thing I can get @ current location.
I'm not sure if it will actually solve anything, but I received the latest update ota. Tomorrow gonna download latest firmware and flash via odin avter wiping everything with safestrap.

Kancerstick pretty much had it right. Rather than switching the band from direct 2.4 to 5.0 though, go into your router settings and look for a setting that says "channel".
What channel are you running on? There are 1-11 channels, try different ones or the idea is to find the one that matches the channel of the phone/client device

The one solution that did work for me was to go into the WIFI Settings -> Advanced option under the menu key -> Uncheck the "Auto network switch" option. I haven't had any further issues with that message so far.
tried everything...
I think I have tried everything on this issue. I got my note 3 a few days ago and it will not keep a stable network connection. tried:
1. uncheck the auto switch
2. turn off mobile networks
3. turn off wifi when sleeping
4 changed my router to static ip and not DCHP
5. forget and reconnect to network
6. reset router
I don't thing I can change my router settings anymore or I will have issues with other equipment
I am sitting right next to my router and everything else works fine but my note 3 will not keep a connection. I keep running speed test and half the time it works and half the time I get a no connection error.
Any other thoughts? Should I try another unit?

5.0 5Ghz Wifi Issues

Did a full image wipe/install with the official 5.0. I'm no-longer able to connect to my Netgear r6800v2 router with the same channel 48 setting for 5Ghz that previously worked on android 4.4.4.
Any other folks out there with android 5.0 problems using 5Ghz channel?
EDIT: I should add - I'm fully aware the N10 has limited 5Ghz frequencies it works on (e.g. 40, 44, 48) - I've tried 36, 40, 44, and 48... none of these seem to work in android 5.0 with the same router settings. It can see the broadcast and attempts to connect, but IP address is never acquired (DHCP)
I'm having the same issue and my 2.4 network is very slow. Anyone else have this issue or any idea how to fix it.
Yeah I've had issues with 5ghz on every lollipop device I have. Haven't figured out how to fix it yet
I had the same issue and changing to Channel 44 (with Auto bandwidth = 40 mhz) solved it for me, it was on 36 initially
No problems here, did a clean flash of Lollipop and 5GHz is working fine with my RT-AC68U, channel 36, auto bandwidth.
Same problem here. Changed to channel 44 and is at least working
Wiped. Clean flash. No problems. On channel 157. Wish it would tell me if im 300mbit or not. Ac n66u.

Have issues connecting to my Virgin Superhub 2 both on 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.. Channel 8 and 36 i believe.

Go into Settings -> Wifi then tap the connected wifi network. It will tell you your link speed there. Mine is connected at 300mb/s, while in powersaver mode it drops to 24mb/s.

I've similar issue, but both on 5ghz and 2.4ghz.
The connection isn't stable and I get disconnected all the time after upgrading to lollipop. If I'm tethering with my phone right next to the tablet (on 5ghz) it works perfectly. I'm not sure if they've tweaked the disconnect/reconnect threshold base on signal strength.
I'm having problems with 2.4 Ghz wifi too. In Jelly Bean I have a pretty good coverage with my home router but with Lollipop I get lots of disconnections and slow speed. I'm not sure if it's a drivers problem or an operative system change, but I know for sure that it's a pain in the ass.
I'm having the same problem with 2.4 Ghz.
Both 5 and 2.4 are much worse for me as well compared to kk.

I've solved my Wi-Fi speed problems changing one setting in my router: just disable WMM ( Wifi MultiMedia).
Try to enable/disable that setting (can be shown also as WME instead of WMM).
Good luck!

My 2.4g is working perfectly, but it cannot see my neighbours 5g network. My Note 2 sees it fine. I checked with Wifi analyzer app.
I can connect to my BT home hub 5 but it only works for a free minutes and then it kind of freezes.
I'm still connected according to my tablet with good signal strength but there is no internet activity making the tablet pretty much a big paper weight for me at the moment.
If some one can help me fix this issue id be very grateful

WiFi unstable

WiFi is very unstable when you aren't next to the access point. It keeps switching from WiFi to data connection.
Furthermore, when gripping the phone from the upside without a cover (near the camera), the WiFi connection will not work anymore.
Someone is experiencing this problem?
same to me
WiFi works normal here... No deathgrip
Maybe you can try enabling Aggressive WLAN to Cellular handover at developer settings under the networking tab to fix your issue

Well, the problem in my case was that I have two access points with the same name at the two sides of the house, and from my room the second AP has a better signal, but it had some trouble and it wasn't working, so the phone wifi was switching from the first to the second continually.
However if you hold the phone from the upside, there is a very strong loss of signal. A workaround is to use a case.
I can say that wifi antennas of this phone are not that good, like the iPhone 7.
My previously Xiaomi phone had a better wifi signal on very distant access point.

Yes, the same SSID on different AP / technologies makes only troubles.
Never use the same name for 2,4Ghz and 5Ghz. Unfortunately many providers have the routers that are configured this way.

I've configured my router with same ssid to use band steering (i can't post link: search "band steering avm" from a search engine)
That technology do exactly the trick: switching from frequency bands, but even disabling it Mi A1 doesn't manage WiFi correctly and don't suppose to do that!

Latest update breaks 5 ghz wifi

So I finally figured this out - pre the latest update 5 ghz wifi on the Oneplus 6t worked flawlessly. Then the latest update came down (ironically over 5 ghx wifi) applied and rebooted and poof 5 ghz wifi no longer works. It connects, it gets ip, it can see the router everything looks normal but if i try to go anywhere on the internet - it tells me i am off line . 2.4 ghz wifi works just fine but the 5 ghz is broke. It took me a while to find this because I would auto switch to wifi at work and at home and didn't realize what was going on. Playstore would not download, app updates never came trhough. If I turned wifi off it all worked but then I am eating my data plan. Just an FYI to anyone having odd issues suddenly.
Weird. Mine still works fine on 5 GHz after 9.0.11 update (8/256 OP direct, totally stock unrooted).

For those that it works on 5 ghz - what band is your 5ghz on - if you check your wifi under network details see if it says 5 ghz or defaulting 2.4? (some people have combined wifi that will place you on what ever network is fastest) - also if you could show post your link speed (show on the Oneplus 6t under network details for wifi
Actually - I did a quick test and I could be incorrect. I set up a guest network with 5 ghz no password and got on it just fine and can pull 400 Mbs. My network password is complex so that might be what is causing the issues . I am going to experiment with a shorter password to see if that fixes it - but that would be a shame if that is the fix as it worked just fine before.

On tmobile, unlocked, flashed through twrp, no issue 5ghz as far as i can tell.
So I experimented more. Here are the results. No matter what I did to my internal wifi I could not get a connection on 5 Ghz. No issues on 2.4 with a long pw, a short pw- aes or tkip wpa or wpa2. But cannot, will not go anywhere on 5 ghz. Here is the odd thing. I can set up guest wifi on my router so I did. I set it up with no pw and boom, 2.4 g, 5 ghz1 and 5ghz2 - all of it. Then I turned on wpa/wpa2 and encryption (auto/aes/tkip) and set a password...and boom. Still working?? Exact same set up internal Wifi - nothing same issues. It's Bizarre. I turned off all the fancy settings for internal wifi like link sharing, fastest connection - I separeated them out to 2.4g/5G1/5g2 just like my guest and ...nothing. I can connect all day long but it just cannot get to anything on the internet. So for now I guess I am stuck using my guest network.
To the others who said they have the issue - what brand of router? - Mine is the TP-LINK AC5400
working fine here, verified that 5ghz is connected in settings

can't be - dhcp is band agnostic and it works - I get an ip address on 2.4 and 5 ghz just cannot get anywhere on 5ghz when using my home internal router set up - plus when I set up guest network on the same router I am just fine. And it worked just fine before the latest Oxygen update (that and I have about 18 devices on wifi all working just fine - including my oneplus 6 running the same Oxygen update - ) Has to be a bug of some kind.
Same problem here, oneplus 6T and Oxygen 9.0.11. I have this bug since update from 9.0.10 to 9.0.11.
I'm not on TMobile (see on reddit about oneplus_6t_update_breaks_google_play_certification), i'm in Italy with TIM operator.
I have problems with Fastweb Fastgate Router (Askey RTV1907VW), wifi 5ghz is connected but i can't browse, i can't do a speedtest from App on OnePlus 6T, etc.
But now in my office, i have a Vodafone 5GHz router, and i don't have any issue!
Could be a problem of the "channel" for 5Ghz wifi connection?
