[Q] Nexus 7 does not register touch correctly - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Recently I purchased the 32GB Nexus 7. It's been all right, however since last week it's beginning to have troubles. When I tap on the screen, the input registers on a random part of the screen.
Before you ask:
the device is on 4.1.2 and is 100% stock, was rooted but I reverted to check if it would help
updating to 4.2 does NOT fix the issue, in fact it makes it worse
I have tried reinstalling the touch drivers from XDA about a thousand times (yes I did do the right build version) to no avail
Rebooting helps, but the issue comes back after about five minutes. I want my Nexus back!
Any help that you have would be appreciated.
A video of the issue in question can be found below. Sorry for the poor video quality...
And, if I get this problem on my new slate, what other tablets could you recommend? That's probably a last resort, though, because I LOVED this tablet until the touch issue.

[Q] Words with Friends Problem Acer A500

I have just bought Acer Iconia A500 and when I play Words WF the tray tiles keep shuffling until I place one, running Honeycomb 3.1, is this a problem with the tablet or software ? I have tried turning the rotation off any ideas please
I play the game myself on my tablet and do not have this problem.. Are you running the Tablet version of the app of the phone version? I have no issues at all witht he tablet version.
I expect the tablet version I downloaded from market with the tablet I did not need to specify so believe should be right I have got the ap on an Optus Tablet works fine, thanks for your reply ????????????
If you got it through the market as opposed to installing an APK manually then you should have the right version. I am at a loss as to why you are experiencing the problem you describe though. Not experiencing this issue at all myself.
try to uninstall, then reinstall, may be a bad apk u installed
Hi. Your accelerometer is what's causing the issue. It's reporting the Z axis to be 0 to + 18 instead of -9.6 to +9.6.
I have the exact same issue. It's not a bad install or APK. You'll have the same problems in games like ATilt 3D Labyrinth, and anything else that relies on Z-axis. Have been looking for a fix or an update that fixes this but so far nothing.
I've tried multiple roms so far. My next attempt is going to revert back to stock (unrooted) 3.0 and try the OTA updates.
Update: Just reverted back to stock rom, issue is present in words with friends and also ATilt 3D Labybrinth. However, it's not present in Labyrinth Lite. Odd. updating now to stock 3.1
Update: Just updated to stock 3.1 via OTA. Words with friends now working/not constantly changing tiles.
I had the same problem. Constant shuffling in WWF. Updated to 3.1 and seems to be gone. They should've put a way to turn off shake-to-shuffle (which is what causes the problem). Honestly who would shake their tablet (or phone) to shuffle when there is a button right there?
Hi thanks for your really detailed reply you obviously know your stuff but as I am very new to tablets I have no idea what or how to update etc. Tablet tells me 3.01, Kernel 2.6.36.3 and build 1.016.04.
What is rooted etc, sorry if I seem a bit thick but struggling with the terminology and process, I therefore probably am a bit thick....LOL thanks for your assistance, Phil

[Q] Strange screen issue with reboots

Hi.
I'm new to Nexus 7 and after a short time using it I began experiencing some strange issue with the it. While surfing the web over WiFi (note that I'm using the first Nexus 7 with WiFi only) after a short time glitching lines appear on the screen (as shown on the image attached) and some loud white noise coming from the speaker. It's stuck like this for about 30 seconds and then reboots. After reboot, everything seems normal, till it comes again. It takes 15-30 minutes of surfing and I believe the time depends on the intensity of surfing. Seems like WiFi modem somehow affects the GFX driver.
Note that I was first running android 4.1.1 and recently updated to 4.2. Updated didn't fix the problem. I've rooted the device with "Nexus 7 root toolkit v.1.5". Note sure if the rooting affected it somehow, as I rooted the device on second or third day of use.
Anyone have an idea of what could be wrong or how I might fix it? Or it's HW issue and I should turn it to Google?
Thanks!
So I'm the first and only one with such problem???:silly:
I could be wrong here but that seems like more of a hardware(warranty) kind of issue. However, I had the speaker issue after flashing a custom ROM (sparks linario 4.2.1) and I had the speaker issue (along with a host of other bugs buts that's beside the point). I flashed stock and unrooted and the problem was fixed... I know it might not help your case but I thought ide let you know. Its possible the toolkit caused the issues and flashing back to stock and rooting with another method may solve your issue (that's what I would try). But if you end up sending it in under warranty for god sakes, unroot and relock your bootloader first! Otherwise Google probably won't honor your warranty.
Good luck friend.

Hi guys i got some freezing issues, anyone got an idea what could it be? i'm totally new to Android/tablets, so other then this info, i don't know what else to say, or explain the issue better, it just freezing for like 5 sec, and after it works normal, its random freezing. I hope anyone can help me, thanks.
Is it when you update or install apps?
This is normal, the OS can freeze for a few seconds during write operations.

What ROM and kernel are you using? Are you over clocked?

No overclock at all, Kernel - 3.4.0-g9e52a21
Build number JSS15R all stock here. No custom ROM's..
I experience the same BS on an all stock WIFI model (2013.06 date code). Thought it was JB 4.3 teething pain but my Note 3 running 4.3 doesn't do it. Have mainly noticed it playing Great Big War Game where it'll randomly freeze the whole tablet once per launch for about 10 secs where nothing responds (show touch, home, switch task, etc.) then it'll either return to normal or prompt with dialog to wait or close. Have also had it happen in Modern Combat 3 along with the random app close that, again, doesn't affect Note 3. Haven't seen newer apps affected so perhaps it's a software issue and is fixable but it's irritating nevertheless considering it's a Nexus device and after correcting the touch issues with ts10 firmware update. Going to try reflashing the stock image to see if it fixes it otherwise looking forward to dumping this Asus for a Note 10.1 2014 LTE. My Note 10.1 2013 and Note 2 have been 100% solid with never a crash, hang or touch issues.
I had freezing problems when i was trying out the TS20 fix. TS10 seems to yield erratic behaviour randomly after each reboot.
Ever snce i've been testing the ones between TS10 and TS20. TS16 works better for me than TS18 - just being more responsive but both has no reboot issues. Am testing TS14 now and it seems better than TS16 but i needed more time to run it. None of the 14,16 and 18 has given me any kind of freeze after 24hrs of testing on multi-touch intensive apps.
You might wanna give 16 a try... i will be posting a more detailed update in sfhub's thread when i'm done with TS14 and TS12 testing.
Cheers
Thanks for the answers guys, but this is really new to me, i got no idea what is TS 14, TS 18 or TS16, can you guys explain me a bit? thanks.
I had the same issue. Please see my observations at post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46082214#post46082214
However, I have recently tried to uninstall all apps (backing up with titanium backup) and installing back in bunches. With only the apps/games I use daily, the issue appears to have subsided, and I am trying to slowly bring apps back to see what the issue is.
Original post for consolidation purposes:
When it happens: Touch intensive Games (drastic, MMOJ, Dumb Ways) appears to be when the 3D GPU is NOT in use, netflix, when paused for a short while.
What happens:
1. Screen does not update display appears frozen
2. No response from nav bar icons
3. Power, volume buttons give no response.
4. If audio was playing right before it froze, it will keep playing as if nothing wrong.
5. If I hit the power button or the nav button then let it sit for a few minutes, suddenly it will react to every press I did in quick motion and go back to normal.
5a. I had show touches enabled, which showed a random number of the frozen touches working in quick succession when it "unfroze"
6. Sometimes requires a hard restart with no response.
When it started: Right before the Q update starting rolling out, did not have issues out of the box.
Purchase date and location: Right around the time of launch from best buy, 32 GB 2013 version
Troubleshooting steps: Safe mode (doesn't appear as often), full factory restore to the Q image when the R image started rolling out. Issues were gone for a short timeframe, then returned
Config information: Stock, latest firmware version, rooted via TWRP (latest version installed), and SU.
Observation: Appears to occur in select situations, and I believe I always have a GMAIL notification right when it un-freezes.
Let me know what you think and if it should be merged with a different topic, didn't see anything about it un-freezing when it was frozen or audio still playing.

Please refer to this thread for a fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428133
The fix from the thread above helps with many touchscreen issues including freezes.
At least it helped with mine. I was experiencing freezes and so called "sticky touches" (like when you short tap on something and the device interprets it as a tap and hold).
My device came with pre-Q and went through three OTA updates. After reflashing with factory R image minus wiping data (remove -w from flash-all.bat file) and with ts10 all appear to be better so far. Modern Combat 3 still randomly closes but it could be Gameloft's crappy coding. Need to run it for a few more days to confirm but reflashing factory R image with ts10 offer the best experience so far.
Mine does too now in addition to the already random reboot. The freezing happens when I try to input text on the keyboard.

Touchscreen unresponsible after updating to 4.4.2

Hey guys,
today i received my new Nexus 7 (2013). I unpacked it, connected with my account and had fun with the new Display. After that i updates my 15 preinstalled google apps, played a littel bit with google maps / gmail / clash of clasn, and after that i upgraded to 4.4.2. After rebooting, i started the game again and suddenly my display didn't response anymore. The power button is working, and by holding down the power button i can restart the device, without any changes. And few minutes ago, i wiped the partitions (with the recovery mode), but still the touchscreen is unsresponsible.
Does anyone has the same problem? I read about multitouch problems, but has someone informations about this bug?
What would you do? (should i send it back to amazon)
thanks a lot in advance!
Don't mess with it, just get a replacement while you still can

Axon7 (A2017G) - Various Issues

Hello to everyone,
I am a new forum user even if I follow you by many years.
A few months ago I bought a Axon 7 (A2017G) and since then I've encountered software and hardware issues.
In particular, I upgraded to Nougat (versions 7 and 7.1.1) and I have experiencing loss of data connection and phone line. A simple restart of the terminal has always solved everything.
The fingerprint reader is no longer responsive as before and the camera focus has worsened significantly. I tried to make, several times, a factory reset but it did not do anything.
So I decided to return to marshmallow (B10).
The other problem is display related.
Everything is more clear when using the virtual keyboard. In practice, it is as if the display were disturbed, for a fraction of a second, by a sort of electric discharges. The phone works normally but it were annoying me a lot.
I have already taken steps to replace the device but nothing has changed. Which is your advise except to make a return of the phone?
Sorry for my english.
