Gesture Browsing app possible? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if there is an app anyone knows about or anything we can do to make browsing a little more enjoyable experience. Not complaining about the current way it's real good. For example 2 fingers swipe left will go to previous browser page and 2 fingers swipe right moves forward a page in your browser. etc.
Anything like this?

How many are sticking with Dolphin even after OTA?

I went back to the stock Browser to see how multitouch was after the OTA update, and man, how underwhelming.
The multitouch is pretty much the same as Dolphin of course, but I definitely got used to Dolphin's full screen view. That status bar just sticks out like a HUGE sore thumb in the stock browser now...
Now only that, I love being able to double tap in Dolphin and seeing all the open tabs, instead of having to press Menu... then Windows... Then choose my tab...
Anyone else sticking with Dolphin? I think there's just too many extra features. Now that I've tried it, I can't go back!
I'm actually moving back to stock browser, I didn't realize how slow dolphin was.

Slow how? In zooming, page loading, or something else? They seem the same speed to me...???
Also, the zoom in/out buttons on the stock rom are also really ugly now, since they're not on Dolphin either.
dolphin didn't really impress me. the zoom was never that smooth and I never got used to the gestures didn't seem worth the effort. stock browser always seemed to load quicker. the new zooming seems to format the page better. I think the new pinch is absolutely perfect.
stock all the way, though I could see if you were used to specific features you'd stay with dolphin.
The only advantage Dolphin has now, over the stock browser, is the ability to download Youtube vids. On this gorgeous huge screen, the status bar isn't really as much of an eyesore as it was on the G1.
I see... It does seems a bit smoother to zoom...
Is there a way to remove the zoom buttons and the status bar without being rooted?
If not, is there a way to remove them with root?

Best bet is to contact Loccy. He was able to hack the stock browser on 1.5 and 1.6 to hide the status bar and the zoom buttons.
I like the tab mgmnt. Home page/bookmarks.
Dolphin MT but it also reformats text. Default when you P/Z is iphonish where it doesnt reformat the text.

Page loading. I love the left/right swipe to change tabs on dolphin though, as well as the gestures, but if I'm on my phone, page loading > tabs

double tap right after doing the pinch to zoom, it'll format it without zooming

Oh wow, you're right. I just noticed this.
When you zoom in with pinch/zoom on stock browser, it doesn't reflow text. If you rotate the phone and then rotate back, it DOES reflow the text. And then if you zoom out, it reflows the text. So only zooming *IN* with P/Z is fubar'd. (The zoom in/zoom out buttons reflow text just fine in both directions.)
Is this a "feature" or a bug with P/Z on stock browser???
[Edit]: Actually... It looks like reflow isn't working in Dolphin either until you rotate landscape and back??? Google must have broken something in the OTA??

PM'd. He hasn't posted in more than a month on XDA though. I wonder if he left the Android scene.

(Concept) Seamless homescreen replacer

I have a concept homescreen replacer where there are no "pages", instead there is one single horizontal scrolling strip, much like a film strip. Think Windows Phone 7, but with widgets, icons, folders etc and horizontal.
Look at the attachment if you dont understand. I would put the image in the post but I cant post outside links yet.
Yes, it is possible to see half a widget, but I thought about it and decided it will be to the user to scroll so it is displayed right.
I have no experience in coding but I am pretty good in graphics like my picture
Tell me what you think
I've been thinking about and attempting to create (with limited success so far.) something similar to your home replacement but Vertical Scroll rather than horizontal. To give you an idea it would look similar to The Zune Launcher or the but also be able to take widgets. Again no snap to screen (cant figure that bit out).
Good luck with this, it would be interesting to see what experiences you gain and what problems you run into. Similar to you I am fantastic with graphics but not too good at coding (not done any since C++)
When I "jailbroke" my ipod ages ago, there was a tweak that was called "smooth scrolling" and it did the exact same thing described here. I think it would be awesome to have a free-scrolling home screen. I am working on a home replacement myself and it features a vertically scrolling home screen where the icons and widgets can be placed anywhere (not snap to a grid). If you would like to help, click on the logo in my signature to be taken to my site to see what I am working on. I could use a hand in graphics, myself. PM me if you're interested
I would prefer something that is like infiniboard for iOS
This would technically allow widgets to stretch past the 1 page limit in LauncherPro, as in, you could have widgets large enough that they cut off, allowing for some GREAT theming and future uses.
hmmm....interested but why vertical? feels a little to Windows Phone to me and i think widgets would work better scrolling horizontally. I looked up smooth scrolling for iOS and yep thats what i want with widgets and gridless.
I just want to subscribe to this and give my two cents:
I think any seamless homescreen app should still have the option at least of enabling a grid for apps and widgets. The idea of this as a functioning homescreen replacement could certainly get me to switch over from ADW, but only if it could satisfy my OCD needs for everything to be lined up juuuust so.
I think this would be a great thing to have, but I also would like to have an option for the widgets & apps to line up on a grid. while it is great to have the seamless scrolling (preferably horizontal & not vertical...maybe there could be an option for that as well) I like things to line up too.
I could definitely make that an option for my home-replacement. I just want to know what people would want out of a home replacement so that I can model mine around the general consensus of what everybody wants. Oh, and why does everybody want vertical scrolling? Because its different. Sure Windows phone 7 has it. But it does it in its own way. Android is know for its open-ness and widgets. The wonder of Android is that anyone can do anything with Android, and its free.
At first I want to say that the idea of a seamless lauchner is brilliant.
I had that idea by myself but I have no experience in programming.
I think I would prefer somewalls original concept with icons that fit into a grid and horizontal scrolling. To me it seems to be more useful on portrait format screens compared to vertical scrolling.
But anyway, I hope the best for you guys.
I think vertically scrolling widgets will work buggy this way. Unless there would be some kind of listener that stops the horizontal scrolling when interacting with a vertically scrolling widget.
Else both ways of scrolling will interfere.

I like the idea, it's something that I would love to have on my phone! Just one suggestion.. I would like to see both horizontal and vertical scrolling, if it could be developed. As in, the user decides what kind of scrolling he wants, either vertical, horizontal.. or may be both? I don't if it's possible or not, I have no "serious" coding experience, as you may call it since am just in school!

[Q] What does air view work on?

I have had this phone since launch and have found only two things it worked on. Hovering your finger over gallery pictures the default at&t homepage for the browser. Is the feature available for anything? Even when going to other websites this feature either doesnt work or is useless.
Preview in stock messaging app?

Preview contacts in the dialer and video scrubbing hover over gives a small preview at that point of the video.
Sure the there is not much it used with. This is however the first phone with the feature and I hope more phone include it to allow more developer incentive. The feature needs to be referenced from the app to be used. I myself have been looking for the necessary SDK to make such apps. I have had no such luck on Samsung's Developer site.
So, yes, it will be restricted to Samsung's assortment for awhile. Which is:
Stock messenging. -In the app hover a contact to preview the message without opening it. On the lock screen, if the message is long it will do the same.
Email app - Same as above. Note this is the email with the red @ circle on it. Not gmail or any others.
Videos- the timeline should show previews as you hover your finger. This usually requires a finger tap therefore relatively useless. A good try though.
Gallery- preview an album. Hover your finger over an album to see the first few photos. While viewing pictures wave your hand over the phone to scroll through.
Calendar - Hover your finger over a day to preview the events for the day.
Internet app- Look for the icon in the notification bar. I forget exactly how to use it. The basic function should work for all web pages as the code for air gesture is local on your phone. I don't use or like the stock browser so I can tell you specifics.
Music - In a playlist change between songs with a wave of your hand. And as user fgoyti mentioned in the next post if the title or info is to long to fit, a finger hover will display the full text.
If there are any more I will add to the list.

Also the music app... it will show the full song name if it is too long to fit in the display, when you hover over it
Works on Flipboard.

[Q] Scrolling issues with news apps

Is there some way to improve (enable?) better swipe scrolling in apps like BBC News (1.3.4) and the News/Weather app (Google?) that comes with rooting via NookManager?
I've tried both apps, in both portrait and landscape, and have one heck of a time getting anything like a scroll swipe to work. If I do manage to get almost one screen up (after removing many layers of screen molecules) then the next swipe often sends me back to the top of the page instead of further down!
If only scrolling could be ported to the hardware buttons as a general rule instead of only in a few isolated apps
So, has anyone found a solution for these two? I'm ready to ditch them.
[SOLVED] Whoa! So in playing around with these again I discovered that they have a counter-intuitive (to me) scroll behavior. The BBC app seems to require at least one upward swipe to move the page a little and then a tiny bar appears on the right edge of the screen which is like the vertical scroll bar on a desktop. This you must swipe DOWN over to continue moving the page up. The Google news/weather app is similar but there is no bar and you just go right to the upside down scroll swipe to get the page to scroll up. Who knew?

Tab 4 plus slow scrolling speed

Hi. Just purchased a tab 4 plus. I am satisfied with the performance and overall impressions are good. However, compared to other android tablets and phones I have to say that the scrolling is quite annoying. It's ok as long as I scroll with the finger on the screen, but as soon as I remove my finger the scrolling slows down and stops quite fast. No smooth scrolling and not possible to quickly scroll down to the bottom of a page.
I read on another place that this maybe have to do with kernel governor settings? Have anyone tried to change this or use any other settings to improve scrolling smoothness?
Kind regards,
Exact same problem, can't find any answer to this
+1 on certain apps it sometimes takes more than one swipe to get it to respond.......
