Awesome!
Its nice too see a new dev for the GT8.9
Thanks!

cool!
will try it later today. gotta do a nandroid first.
are you running this or are you coming from another device to bring us this goodness?
oh and is this based on the 8.9 kernel or did you port over a 10.1 kernel (known to cause battery issues)

Just flashed. WiFi is broken for me. Not even turning on. 3g working fine though

I fix this problem today...In next version..in IceBold 1.0.2.0.

I really like the Linaro feature, and I will deff be trying this once the wifi is up and running. Is it possible for you to
make a separate version with GPU OC?

I already fixed wi-fi, but why do you GPU OC, if no tangible productivity gains and more battery plants. Maybe I make version with OC...

I think he meant the wifi version. You only have 3G version now.

Maybe it's just in my head, but I feel CM10 with AA1's GPU OC-kernel is smoother than without it, and I thought if it wasn't too
much extra work, maybe people like the extra option.
However I don't see the wi-fi (7310) version available yet.

Probably that the tab can read ntfs mounts. Like USB sticks. Normally it will only accept fat32.

There are Samsung port to USB adapters. Pretty cheap on eBay. Then just hook up your wired controller.

Really old Trident thread

Yeah, I know, its my first release and its build #28. Just wanted to let you guys know how much of my time with testing and building I put in to this. Tons of thanks to Morfic, Netarchy, Supercurio, Dagnus, the great devs at Google, and of course the ever wonderful Codeworkx, Coolya, and Atinm. Now that the dry part is over, lets get to the good stuff!

Features:
Massive+stable 1400 MHz Overclock (tested on several phones and found to be stable if you don't use SetCPU or any other CPU frequency setter)
Voodoo Sound v4 (v5 coming soon)
A cool boot screen
A cool name
Gingerbread-ful
Built with codesourcery's ARM-EABI 2010.09 Toolchain for more optimizations than the stock CM7 kernel
Kernel HZ set to 1000 for buttery-smoothnessitude
How to use it: Flash it through ClockworkMod recovery like you would any other ROM. After you've booted, get SetCPU here and then open it, switch your governor to conservative, and then set your min frequency to 100MHz.
Oh! Did I mention its fully opensource?! https://github.com/ytt3r/android_kernel_samsung has the stuff
Please report any issues you have with the kernel here

Warning: The second you click the download link here (or here for the 256 HZ version you release me of any and all liability of emotional, physical, or metaphysical damage that this kernel may do to you or your phone, even though it was thoroughly tested.

Changed kernel HZ to 1000 for buttery-smoothness and not much increased battery drain. Not like you'd worry about that on an overclocked kernel, right?
Compiled with Codesourcery's ARM-EABI 2010.09 Toolchain for more buttery-smoothness. How much more can it take?!
Looking forward to see where this goes!
Edit: I can only assume this is I9000 based bc all of the ROMS myself and others build are also I9000 based. Is that an appropriate assumption?
Is this compatible with fugu tweaks?
Particularly with Phoenix Ultimate

just wondering if it was necessary to disable to make work
So this is oc to 1400 and can not be adjusted using voltage control, just run with it
CM7
Sounds about right!
How does battery life with this kernel compare to the battery life of stock cm7 nightlies, or the battery life with TheEscapists OC-UV kernel?
So I'm a little curious.. how would you set what OC you want? Would you just set it to 1.3 or 1.4Ghz and not mess with UV settings at all?

So it it gonna be running 1.4Ghz all the time or will the frequencies only go to max when required?
You can set the CPU governor in SetCPU, as long as you don't set the frequencies.
In answer to your question, it defaults to ondemand. (So it varies based on how much power you need.)

I have a question;
I liked CM7 until the battery drain made it near difficult to use; will using this Talon kernel possibly fix the drain issue? If so, then I'm going to consider switching back.
Can I ask what problems Gingerbread bootloaders cause?

Short answer--No. Long answer, while the kernel can not fix battery life completely, it can do something for it. Your problems won't be completely fixed, but will be somewhat mitigated.

To tell you the truth I'm getting the same battery life I had with Continuum. Some people are still getting drains depending on apps being used and such. There are so many variables to consider that I could tell you. You have to try it out and see how things go. Test different kernel settings in Voltage Control .... and monitor programs used to find what the culprit may be.

It has always been an issue until the latest round of Kernel updates. It mainly effects external SDCARDS but Vivified had a few intermittent issues with seeing the internel SDCard. (He wasn't running this kernel at the time).

ICS Roms Benchmarked

Used Quadrant Standard Edition 2.0
This was done on 3-28-2012. Pretty much all the ROMs have had new releases since then. So these benchmarks do not accurately reflect the current performance of the ROMs.
Full wipe procedure done before each flash.
Coldboot done for each ROM before running Quadrant. Not doing coldboot resulted in lower I/O score in some cases.
Testing was done using the default settings and kernel of the ROM. No kernels were flashed separately.
Overclock was tested only if the ROM and its default kernel supported it, using the maximum frequency allowed in the ROM's settings + force GPU rendering set to enable in developer settings.

Android 4.0.4 ROM
What the hell is going on with the 2D scores? Why is stock so far ahead of the others?
I dont have any fancy diagrams or tables like you but...
I ran quadrant on eos build 12 and got a total of 3.5k (average, 3 runs).
Settings: CPU at 1.4Ghz, no forced gpu rendering.
Breakdown:
cpu: 6200
memory: 3200
I/O: 6000
2D: 110
3D: 1800
Interesting though that stock ICS performs that well compared to the other roms.
So in raw performance there isnt much difference between custom and stock rom, until you start tuning the cpu.

Enabling "force GPU rendering" on other ROMs increases the 2d scores to around 400.

Probably.
I tested it again. Stock ROM is giving those scores without force gpu rendering
Funny thing, stock is way better with 2d rendering, EOS and CM9 are faster in I/O...
Yup, the reason EOS and CM9 have such high scores is because of the I/O. I wonder how perceivable the difference is to an average user.
Team EOS's has a tiny FPS lag when scrolling home screens despite its high score.
Just got a quadrant score of 4237 with CM9 lastest (28-03) and guevor test 4 kernel at 1640mhz.
Here's what I got. Pretty much same as yours.

So there was a bump in performance indeed.
---------- Post added at 06:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:49 PM ----------
Now theres a build out with Android 4.0.4 (march 29) Maybe even more performance increases.
CM9 keeps getting better and better.
Looking forward to 4.0.4 benchmarks vs 4.0.3!
There wasn't really any performance increase in 4.0.4. The changes probably had to do with something else.
CM9 March 28 version + stock kernel
CM9 March 29 version(Android 4.0.4) + stock kernel
Looks like the forced GPU rendering didn't score as high this time though; do you know the explanation? Just curious, not particular adept at computer stuff so unnecessary to answer if you don't have time..

I don't think you should give much thought to those minor differences.
The scores fluctuate way too much. Honestly, only 3 attempts don't give accurate averages.

yep. just checked on my cm9 with test8 kernel @ 1,7Ghz:
total: 4185, cpu: 8230, mem: 3274, io: 7466, 2d: 121, 3d: 1834

so I think I'll stay on CM9

While it is still early, i already created this thread so that noobs and developers alike can discuss their problem, solutions, praises, etc here. Thus, leaving the original thread as useful as possible to all of us.

is this normal behaviour for this kernel?
and also i cannot set sched_mc to 2 , it always revert back to 0
is it normal?

I fill fix sched_mc issue in the next version. but even after having it fixed I do not recommend you to use it if you do not have a reason. I applied that patch to have ARCH_POWER and sched_mc is there just for those who wants to experiment. but according to my experience there is no use of setting it to 1 or 2.
about cpu0, it should be active.. but if you mean only one core is active and not others pegasusq governor is a bit tweaked to activate the other cores a little harder than the original one.
if you run a stability test or benchmark you will see that the others become active as well.
and for extweaks hotplugging settings: they are only effective with ondemand and other "old" governors for now.
I will make 1,2,3-core modes available for pegasusq and hotplug governors later.
What are the recommended settings for governers etc?
Thanks for your explanation,
i am using stability test app from market,
i only see 2 cpu there

it is either a different stability test than the one I use or an older version.
I am using stability test v2.5 from the market and it can stress test 4 cores

I can confirm that the latest version from the Market (v2.5) has all 4 cores.

Anyone know why Extweaks goes upto 1600Mhz but SetCPU 1800?
Great kernel. Loving this by the way.
Great Kernel thanks so much! Just a quick question.
I'm using SetCPU for the CPU overclock. What do I use for GPU and undervolting?
Cheers

Same thing happened to me, and no matter what I do, I can't get it to work again. But it did work initially, till I switched to performance profile.
This is very strange...
BTW great work GM, as was to be expected. Been using your kernel on the I9100, and I think I speak for most of us here when I say I'm damn glad your kernel for the I9300 is finally here
I also get this error in ExTweaks after I switched to performance profile.

Has anyone else managed to change the charging mA using extweaks?

Profiling isn't available yet. The app needs to be updated I guess. Everyone is having the same issue.
For the time being.

For the time being, please use the kernel as ease to prevent any issues as extweak is not yet FULLY optimized for I9300.
Please understand that gokhan is maintaining other stuffs as well.
Or, try this one:

I've discovered a "fix" for ExTweaks displaying the "No Compatible Interfaces Detected" error. It seems it's caused by saving the battery profile which aren't implemented at the moment. To fix this use a root explorer and go to the following location.
/data/.siyah/
In this folder delete .active.profile and battery.profile and reboot.
ExTweaks should now be working again.

Which combo are YOU running?

Which Rom, paired with which kernel(clock, governor and scheduler too), on which device? Trying to get more of an idea as to where the popularity lies with the nxs
Check Sig. I'm still on ICS, not ready to make the JB jump.
Nexus S (GMS i9020a)
Paranoid (1.6 - 4.0.4)
Matrix Kernel (CFS - 20.0)
Ondemmand (1000/100)
Deep Idle (On - Deadline)
Live OC - 100 (400/800)
BLX - 98 (Inverted Apps)
right now on the NS4G
Burns' CM10 latest, 8.06
w/ thalamus kernel
thalamus is fast, with little to no lag at all...best i've experienced. Battery is also equal to ICS if not maybe slightly better

CM10 V1.10 + Trinity
JellyBelly 1.0.0 with latest thalamus kernel
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
cm10 v1.10 + custom built kernel (stock merged to 3.0.39 + voodoo sound + blx)
config: default voltages, ondemand, CFQ
This combo results in smooth operation and great standby time...
I just noticed that the default IO scheduler for my custom build was CFQ, and other kernel developers have to change it if they want 'deadline.' I thought the default in the stock kernel was 'deadline.' Is this still true for JellyBean? If so where was this set when building the kernel?

Ditto for me too. I prefer the streamlined kernel to the other kernels with extra "fluff." And so far, CM10 has been performing well for me too.
Stock I9020A JellyBean
Simple Kernel 1.3.2 (it has voodoo colors!)
Ondemend

I don't see your point.... Yes I may have tried JB ROMs, but I keep coming back to this set up as a daily. I can't stick with JB, I am not ready to make the full jump and loose everything I currently have.

JellyBelly 1.0 with Thalamus kernel here too. I'm really happy with it except for the lack of Voodoo Color. Does anyone know of a kernel that's as good as Thalamus but with VC? I find the stock colors to be really ugly, but don't want to sacrifice stability just to get them. Or if anyone just does a repack of Thalamus' kernel with VC, that would be ideal I think.
Oxygen GB 2.3.2 and the kernel that comes with it
