What do I need to enable to stop the 4.2 update constantly asking me to upgrade now or later? Usually you can just have the option to skip it no?
I know my phone won't ask unless I search under software updates.
This one pops up on the constant and happy with 4.1.2. Not feeling the terrible reviews on 4.2 so just want to skip it for now or till a more stable one comes out.
appreciate any help.

[INFO] Stop OTA update nagging
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
The suggestions in the reply above are the best but they all require a rooted Nexus. Until you root your tablet try on Google Services Framework in Settings - Apps - All column:
1. Disable Notifications - fewer update reminders.
2. Clear Data - forgets an update is ready but may just re-download one.
3. Disable GSF - stops reminders but breaks Google Play Store and others.
I use number 3 as JB 4.1.2 works perfectly.
I have got similar prob but I am on 4.2. hoping this will work.

You can long press the notification and go to app info and uncheck the show notification box as well.

Thanks for the replies guys. Really don't understand why its setup this way. Wish it was like my S3.
Not really wanting to root this yet, but if the above don't work, may have too.

I would download Avast from Google Play and scan sdcard and apps. Not sure what it is. Looks like spam-ware.

Thanks for the tip, just tried and avast says all is good. Should I be worried about this?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Just noticed I scanned it when the file wasn't there. Maybe I'll wait till it gets created then I'll scan?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I found that in my phone the other day too. I don't know what it is, but it doesn't really do anything.
Could be a log file. I'm not sure what it is. I would scan again once it appears. Not sure if it is I needed file or not. I don't have a nex 4 but was looking into getting one that's why I'm at the forum.
You can try sd maid which has a system cleaner. Or change the files permissions if you are worried about it transmitting data. But I wouldn't mess with it too much until you figure out what it is.

I suspect it's something to do with adverts in some app on your phone.

I have that file also, along with three others that I have no idea what they are.

You guys could wipe your sdcard with twrp if you are worried, but back up all your wanted sdcard data to a computer first. And then put it back on right after. I do that with my Nexus 7 sometime. Not sure if it is the same process on Nex4. It may not be necessary, not sure.

It's available on the backend, but you've got to actually run apps that support the new features (it's all part of GCM if you want to look it up, replacing C2DM). Even Google's offerings using GCM though (Hangouts, looking at you!) are really...weird about it.
For text messages try Mighty Text. Just install it on both your android phone and the nexus 7

I've found a great app for me. NotiSync. The only negative point is, that this app only uses bluetooth. But its great, that i can configure custom apps
If someone have a similar app but per wifi, pls talk to me

Agree, Mightytext developer's really made my day a lot easier! Getting notified of SMS, MMS & calls that's incoming. Sure lot's of Apps gives the simular functions, but the great thing about MT is that you could have a tab running in your browser and get notified on the computer also, and that you can answer/create msg directly from N7 or webbrowser. Smooth is that it runs on your 3G/4G, so you'll not have to use bluetooth or wifi and flipping it on and off etc. Sure if you wanna use the wifi @ home on your phone, MT will of course use that route. Probably the most beloved product for me, because having long conversation over SMS is just dumb. When you have a keyboard that makes me input data that much faster, but not everyone is thinking like me Glad that's not the case though! hehe..
Best regards,
H.

Hi. It seems with the new OTA that the hide notification option in Android settings doesn't stick on some apps. And the weirdest thing is that when I turn on my Bluemont, Tune in radio pro starts running and I get a notification for that too. I can't find an option or setting for this anyone else have a similar experience?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app

I don't have one. Is there one? Maybe there are some answers in there. I did a Google search and didn't get anything but I'll look again.

Stopping & clearing google service framework to update N4
YES!
Don't do it. You'll screw up the ability to download apps, so you'll have to remove your Google account and re-enter it all. And some say that still doesn't fix the problem.
Just side load the OTA. It's so easy, you'll be surprised. It'll seriously take you longer to download the file and the SDK than it will to update the phone.

No root needed and follow the directions here:

Droid Life is posting the new google apps that came from a nexus 5 which is, as you know, running android 4.4 . I can confirm the new google launcher works after installing google search and google play. Im pretty sure most others should work fine on the X. Post if working or if not!:good:

So I have installed all of the leaked apps. The only one that did not work is the clock. I've cleared the data on the app but it didn't make a difference. In in the Verizon Moto X. Only other problem is email app is missing the exchange option for me.
Anyone else try these? Any workaround for the clock?
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 4
You need to be rooted and uninstall the clock app and reinstall the leaked apk from what I've read. Android police had a write up on it.
Sent from my XT1060 using xda app-developers app
I'm rooted, followed the directions, still couldn't get it to work. No biggie...the clock isn't all that different.
Wish we had the dialer!
Can you install the new launcher without being rooted? Or is that required for all of these leaked apps? Looked like it just said side load them...
I had trouble sending mms with the new hangouts. I'm stock non rooted newest ota

I installed everything without root. An article I saw said to install the playstore, then search, then the launcher.

wierd does the new email not do exchange?
dont install the new google now if you like your voice activation i get crashes all the time now
Thanks Derek ross for the solution
Long press the home screen, select Settings. Select Voice. Select Language to change the default. Change to another language, I choose English – UK. Hit Home. Do a Google Search. Repeat the first three steps. Change back to English – US.
also update your language pack in the settings as well.
Is the new dialer included in any of these yet?
