Free xperia play at google io !

The giveaway took place in the C++/Game Developer panel, which discussed the use of native code in Android applications (games, in particular, are likely to use the NDK as opposed to standard Dalvik). And aside from winning some karma points from developers, Sony’s motivation for handing out the phones are pretty clear: give developers a phone that features the gamepad, and they’re much more likely to make sure their games work flawlessly with it.

Does anyone know if these are carrier unlocked and able to connect to Fastboot? I'm seeing a few popping up on eBay in the $500-$600 range and I think I'm going to take the plunge.

If they're from Sony then they're most likely unlocked phones. I can't imagine them going "here, have a phone, it only works on -network- though"

I got mine from ebay for 475 best offer. Its unlocked no carrier markings. Its from Google io so I would assume so. They were given to devs

Wow! I got one for a Best Offer of $550. Now I feel like I should have gone lower. Ah well. I was expecting to pay at least that anyway. Better than spending around $700 for one.

i might resale. the price is fluctuating seen some for 500 or best offer and seen some on auction going up to 625. i have to see. devs are selling their plays and keeping the tablets. i seen the tablets going for $1000+
my best offer was $515 but i used ebay bucks i had left over so it bought it down to $475.

Excuse me for my ignorant question but is it correct to assume that even though these Google I/O Xperia Play's are unlocked that it's only for SIM and you would still need to use Gingerbreak to get root access right?
I'm asking because I'm in the process of buying one so I want to know how much I need to tinker with it. I also assume I won't need to debrand it and that it is pretty stock no?

From what i could tell on eBay there were a couple CDMA phones.
As well the GSM ones all appear to be the exact same phone as the Canadian one R800a just unbranded so i'd guess root access would have to be done via gingerbreak, however as mine arrives monday i'll update if this is the case.

Lucky you, i ended up at $540 as my timing sux.

Awesome phone at crazy price. I also got the dock and it looks very good.
I got it on ebay for $450 (item number 120725728032) and add a 10% back in ebay bucks as I bought it before the IE9 + Window 7 8% bonus ebay bucks ended. Very sweet deal at $405 + $7 for almost overnight shipping. I think the seller didn't care for much profit and also he didn't mention R800a prominently to get attention.
It's not much thicker than X10 and is actually a little shorter. The four buttons it has should have been on Arc along with the front camera. Will be using it for a week or two before I pass it on to my son while I go back to my Arc.

I have one of these coming tomorrow (ebay, ~$500 shipped). Is there any difference in software compared to the Verizon model? Is it going to be primarily stock 2.3?
This may sound like a foolish question, but, considering these aren't widely available, does everyone think these will get proper updates from SE?

Has anyone gotten the verizon version of one of these phones? I was thinking about grabbing one on ebay before they disappear to use on my verizon account, but wanted to check ahead of time to see if the bootloader on the developer version would be unlockable. Can anyone confirm this?

anyways i put an ad on CL looking for a Xoom 3g hoping someone would offer me one for $500`ish, then this guy emails me and says he has this xoom he got from his parents for uni and he dont want it, he explained it was WiFi only and that i could have it for $200, i offered him $180 and holy poop he accepted it lol
now im gonna sell this one as i really would like the net everywhere, i had a Thunderbolt and LTE is great, shame the TC had to many problems for me.
Just sold my giant iPod touch 2... i mean iPad 2, xoom replaces the laptop for me.... iPad 2 was just like an extension of my iPhone 4

Must be something in the air in Ohio it seems

I had similar but not as great purchase of the Xoom.
I got the LTE Xoom 32GB for $500 when it first came out new in the box and never used.
I got the receipt and I checked with Verizon and the said it was all good for their network.
But that $180 price tag would have been to hard to pass up man.
I wish I had that type of opportunity lol.

Pretty good deal. I love how they advertise the picture of a white i9100 for the front and the back of the real Note lol. But I've bought from them and they're legit, but my keyboard box was all beat up, the keyboard was pristine. It took them about 1-2 weeks for my keyboard order to arrive, I believe as there is so much demand for the things they sell.

Dude, ive been married almost 3 years now and I know the work-around for your issue. You order it and when it shows up at your door and she sees it you say: "baby, summer is almost here. I got this for you so you can relax by the pool and read a nice book, or listen to music, or even watch a movie if you'd like" The she gives you a big hug and a kiss and when she gets tired of the damn thing its all yours.
PS: replace pool with balcony/backyard if no pool is available.

Hmm, the description mentions LTE, is that for some other system or are they just wrong? I live in Indianapolis and I believe LTE has rolled out here already so I'd kinda like to have it on my next phone.

Swappa does not support this device, I've tried to sell things on ebay before (including this one) but both times I've gotten a buyer who is in another country and can't pay through normal means (i.e. paypall on ebay). There is also no interest for this on my local Kijiji So does anyone know a good place online to sell this?

Try craigslist. You are not going to find the Note 3 off contract for less than $550-600.

Way too early to get it cheaper. It's a highly anticipated device so everyone is gonna get asking price for it. Like ericdabbs said, try craigslist after its already been released. There will be people who bought it then found it too big for them.

Perhaps Verizon and Sprint still ESN block and attach to account.
GSM phones block across the board and are only attached to the original account.
I thought with LTE they would do the same. Glad they don't. It's very scummy.

It's all junk on cl to mean anymore. Buying a $600+ phone on there scares me anymore. I will pay full retail and know it had been in my hands it's whole life

I have bought & sold many phones on craigslist. You just have to be careful who you're dealing with, and you have to know what you're buying. And make sure you verify the ESN status before handing over money.

I have bought and sold tons in years past. Until this year. Too many shady people with shady phones and mix matched boxes for phones and stuff. I looked at half a dozen s3 for a backup phone then I threw the towel in. They were all junk. Won't risk that anymore. I always esn check and usually activate them on the stop. Never any issues with that just the stuff on there anymore is no good

Yep, I've met sellers with oddball stuff that didn't match their ad, or they just seemed shady, and I didn't waste time bailing out. Trust your gut. If something doesn't seem right, there is usually a good reason why it feels that way.

I would say eBay from someone who bought one and decided it was "too big" and was too late in returning it, also check swappa.com

Craigslist always has people who buy the phone at upgrade price and immediately sell for a couple hundred off full retail. They make some easy cash and you save some. Just make sure you meet the seller at a Verizon store to verify not stolen. On a side note if you live in a marginal coverage area you can open a new account and get phone for discount price. Wait 15 days and complain about signal. They let you walk from contract with no charge. Then you just pop your sim in and bingo bango bongo. Im on my parents family plan with unlimited so this worked for me last year.
