Nexus 4 Average Battery Life - How many hours you get out of your phone?
So far getting 13 hours with medium brightness.

Its not the total on time that really counts, it is the screen on time. And go to the great battery impression thread in the general forum!

Just finished getting 1d11hrs from it... I had run it down to 1% and fully meant to take screenshots when the phone shut down on me I had done "average" use as I use a phone... watched a little bit of an hd movie, facebook, a few calls, playing on google play and other stuff.
I'm coming from a Samsung Infuse and this is about on par with the battery life I was getting from that running CM10 unofficial on it when the ROM didn't have drain problems affecting it.
I don't know if this isn't typical of others' experience with the N4... I was cautious and plugged my baby in when I got it before even turning it on and let it charge up. It did have to do some calibration as with power off it thought it was at 100% but when it booted up, it registered 80% charge. Now after a few full drain/charge cycles it seems to have a very good feeling for 100% and 0%.

Even though i wasnt able to get my hands on it, my cousin did and he says he got 6 hour on screen time and at total of 22 hours for battery

Where are you getting this battery life? I get max 5 hours of moderate use Facebook twitter tapa talk, a game or two what gives?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2

Total battery time it differs but my screen time on average is around 4hrs.
Very low brightness, wifi always on.
I only use a few apps like sms, tweet lanes, instagram, flipboard, and espn.

I get 9 by barely using it. This phone has a serious problem. It's obvious because the Optimus G is a battery boss, and it even has LTE.
This phone had the exact same screen, internals, battery.

I got 5 hour screen time with aokp

That's where you know it is software related. 4.2 has some bugs, the galaxy nexus got updated to 4.2 and people are reporting really bad battery life ever since the update. Also JB in general doesn't perform as good as ICS in the battery department cause of project butter that cranks the CPU up soon as you start using the phone. Example is Galaxy s 3.
Personally i get very good battery life and in very satisfied. When i was on stock my battery started really bad but then improved, now that I'm rooted and running a custom ROM and kernel i have very satisfying battery life.

Atrix Battery Life

I have been letting a couple of days go by to see how the battery is and I have got to say that I am highly not impressed. I love the phone and even like Blur but the battery is really a let down. I know that the first day or so that I use the phone heavily because of course.. ITS NEW. But today I have been real busy at work and have maybe text a few people, made 2 calls, and looked up a number using google maps and my battery is now down to 60%. In battery manager, it says 5h 2m 25s since unplugged which would be me taking the phone off the charger this morning and heading to work. Other stats are:
Display 35% 29m 52s
Phone Idle 26% 4h 32m 47s
Voice Calls 24% 6m 45s
Cell Standby 11% 5h 4m 5s
Wi-Fi 6% 1h 51m 56s
From looking at these battery stats and usage, does it even seem correct to be at 60% battery? This is at the least very minimal usage for a phone.
Yet another battery thread... One thing before people start complaining: don't estimate battery life based on battery gauge! Complain once the battery is dead and you HAVE to charge. That's the real mileage you'll get from your battery (and give it a few days to calibrate). The gauge is not a good indicator.
I am a new Atrix user too and so far the battery life is 12hrs or less. Maybe that is not impressive. Coming from the N1, its alright in my book.
I do want to say to everyone complaining about the battery life:
It can take a week or more for the battery to settle into the routine and perform to its maximum ability. Lets start the conversation again later next week on where our battery is at.
Yesterday I got 13 hrs between unplugging the phone, and getting the 15% warning. Not all that bad. Not great, but definitely could be worse.
mine has yet to drop below 30% and im pretty much browsing the web and texting all day. I dont care what kind of phone you have but making voice calls and playing games/watching videos kills battery with a quickness no matter how big a battery you have. . The atrix in my personal usage is just as good as my ip4 was.
the atrix was very good on battery life compare to other android phones i've had
Have the Atrix and Epic 4G and the Atrix lasts easily twice as long as the Epic.
I have to keep he Epic pluged in for my hour comute with pandora, just to make sure I have enough battery to make it for the trip home. Normal usage during the day with brightness all the way down, wifi off, BT off, sync On.
Had the Atrix today (day one after full night charge, unpluged at 6:30a), kept BT On, WiFi On, Brightness 100%, Sync On, Exchange Sync On, Auto off/standby set to 15 minutes, Pandora on via BT for my hour trip (unpluged), forest Live Background, Weather Widget etc.,downloaded everyting I could think of/find, constant e-mail, and constant "whatsApp" till noon (lunch), wache YouTube Videos for my whole hour lunch (still full bright mind you). Created 10 minute Install Video with 720p for work, then uploaded via WiFi, not USB. More Texing, Calls and Downloads. .... FINALLY haed to plug it in at 2:30p, with 5% battery left, I think I could have made it till 3 for sure.
That's a full 8 hours of NonStop Use of everything. I expect to get Morning-Night life from normal usage.
Final word. Test it first. I did and it's Great, not just good. The receiving end of all my texts and e-mail blasting and video look ups has an iPhone. He had to charge his at 2:30 too, but has his iPhone set to max battery save (brightness 15%, wifi off, sync off, etc.) But was using as intensly as I was
... okay I'm done ...

Well I must have a bad battery or something then because I am not doing nearly half the stuff that you are doing and am now at 30%. Is there any special charging methods or anything that I should try to squeeze out a few more hours on this puppy?

may be you have several internet connected background service running behind the scene?
My attitude towards the battery is a mixed bag.
1) PRO: It blows away the battery for the Eris (which I'm coming from)
2) CON: As these phones come to be computers with phone capability, it's really time for manufacturers to try their hardest for better batteries. I'd eagerly accept a phone twice as thick as this one if it meant double the battery life.
I find mine is only good for 10 hours (much less with heavy usage, but low calling time). I expected more.

I really call bull on this.
Coming from the world of Airsoft, I'm no stranger to battery performance.
Most of these performance myths are hold overs from the Ni-Cad days and don't apply to modern batteries.
Call Bull all you want. But it was true to the N1 and so far its been true to my battery. It does not last the first few days and gets better after a few charge cycles.
Frankly, everyone believes whatever they want on batteries. I for one take it as a user by user experience. I watch my battery life a lot, but I also like to have Google Reader and Google Listen syncing.
I'm at 30% right now and 12 hours unplugged. What I wouldcall moderate use. Its not as good as my captivate on custom rom / kernel but its far from bad enough.for me to complain about

Andriod sucks the battery, bigger battery on Atrix didn't help much. Google need to optimize the OS for better battery management. I am disappointed coming from Samsung Focus & iPhone 4, both have superior battery life. BTW, I am on Day#4, conditioning the battery didn't help any so far..
Within Range
Looking at all the comments - I would say the Atrix is within range -- I knew when I saw the 1950 mAh (or whatever the exact spec) that the tegra processor must really be a power hog -- the new processor, along with the huge screen is going to draw a lot of power. Comparing to other phones with single core processors and screens even 20% smaller is not reasonable.
Definitely a good point... going to be interesting to see how well other dual core are going to hold up. That will be a better comparison.
Is that battery really a 1930mAH? The size looks like any 1500mAH battery isn't it?
I managed to get close to 16 hours of 'normal' use, meaning I wasn't trying to drain it, nor was I trying to conserve battery. I took the phone off the charger at 3pm and made it all the way to 2pm the following day with about 20% left. That's 23 hours, but I subtracted out the time the phone was on while I was asleep, 8 hours (nighttime mode).
Hmm hearing all these replies i believe i have a defective battery. I unplugged mine today at 5:15AM and now it's 2:18PM and it's just gave me the 15% beep. I've sent about 25 texts and played some words with friends. I've got watchdog installed and no apps seem to be out of control. I'm wondering if a factory reset would fix the issue or if i should return it.

try going to your dialer and entering *#*#INFO#*#*
Look under the battery usage and check the different items. Is anything using a significant amount? it could be a rogue app.
I will say MotoBlur has a lot running in the background. About twice as much as vanilla android.
I have turned most of this off and I do know that is helping my battery life.

Battery life on this phone?

I just got this phone, instantly updated to jellybean, still did a factory reset to help with little issues that happen sometimes on android updates ... and the battery life is terrible. Nothing at all like everyone is bragging about. I even made a lot of smart actions to try to help (i.e. put in airplane mode when I'm not using it, 4g off when wifi on, background data only when using phone, etc.).
I'm getting around 2h and 45 min of screen on time. And it still loses around 12-15% overnight with airplane mode on. No apps downloaded or settings synced from account.
Are there other things I could check?
Facebook freezing and FC constantly too.

I also found it took about 3 weeks for the battery to settle down and really give good long life on each charge. Now I'm super impressed with battery life of this gem of a phone...
Hmm ... I'm debating on sending it back. How was your battery life in the beginning?
No one experiencing huge facebook issues? Some other apps seem to take awhile to load.
Thanks.

Seeing you had 2-3 hrs on screen time, its no wonder the battery is dying on you. At first I found the battery life ok, would get through the day, but as I used it more the battery seemed to settle and now get 2 days a charge...BUT as with everything concerning battery this is relative.
I don't sync pretty much anything. I don't sync gmail, facebook, etc...which i know do take up substantial battery life. One thing I've found with this phone from using CPU Spy (app), is that when it goes into deep sleep, it really uses no battery power...I mean NONE! The other day at work it was just sitting on my desk doing nothing for 3 hours and went from 90% at 9am to 90% at 12 noon.
Battery is great on this phone...

I've had this phone for about a month now and my battery life is incredible. Better than I ever expected. I'm getting 2 full work days out of a single charge. I can suggest an app that I'm convinced works very well for Motorola's as this is the second one I've had. 2x battery saver seems to work better than juice defender. Cutting off background data when the phone is idle will help out a lot and that app does that very well. Smartactions should also be kept to a minimum. My phone uses virtually no battery when it is idle. If you play around on the internet a lot then its gonna drain your battery. For mostly talking and texting, its great.
Same problem but it does get resloved
When I got my razr m it had the same battery problem, but with time it will start holding more of a charge. It takes roughly month, and now i'm getting two days easily with it.
Yep. The battery here is unbelievable. I used ~1gb data, about an hour of calls and a few games for bout 30 min or so. Oh and some music. About 1.5 hours to charge and 2 days battery. Best battery life I have seen since the Nokia 1700 with net ten. Really. Its that good.
And I mean straight out the box. I bought it on Thursday last week and charged it maybe 3 times.
Charged it on Tue at 830 or so till bout 10 central standard time. I got 35% right now. I'm TRYING to kill it before I go to bed. I'm not very optimistic. Outstanding battery. Shoot, unheard of. 4.1.1
Oh and PS. I ain't rooted it yet either.

To speed the settling in process.
Use the phone unit it dies. And then Charge it fully with no interruptions. Dont unplug and replug.
I had 4 of these going through my place now.
My girls, Mines and 2 from friends.
My girl's was settled in well when we received it already.
Mines took 1 week to settle in. My 2 friends took 1 weeks with that Calibration process and the other took 4 weeks of normal usage.
The phones battery is a monster !!!
2 hours worth of phone calls Screen is on time 3 hours, 16h wifi, I am at 40% and been off the charger for 17 hours.
The battery on this thing is great! One thing Motorola does better than any other manufacturer. I'm getting all weekend off a charge as my phone pretty much runs off wireless

The i is more efficient when using it acctionally by 5%
Heavy usage the M is by 3% better, at conserving battery but the i is faster on heavy usage on large application
I have to get the screen shots we got few weeks ago.
Also the i tends to suck more power on some apps due to the emulation. But is not slower in anyway.
They are marginally almost the same.
Its just where u need the Processing power to be.
Heavy need of processing power the i is very competitive on single 3D apps
Need 100% compatibility with the apps store use the M with its ARM CPU
1.5 ARM Dual core or 2.0 Hyper Thread Single Core
I'm getting AMAZING battery life on my RAZR M. I get through the entire work day (lots of voice calls, wifi usage, bluetooth, maybe 1.5 hrs of screen time total) and still have about 35% remaining before I go to bed (about 15 hrs of usage). I even try to kill the battery by watching videos at home, putting the screen brightness on 100%, still havent managed to kill the battery.
So far very impressed with this phone, especially compared with my old Galaxy SII on TMobile

Nexus 4 Battery Life

Hey Guys,
A bunch of people are complaining about the battery life on Nexus 4. I've been waited for a couple days since I got the device, to have enough confident about the battery before I make any post here. Yes, the phone battery drain pretty fast on the first few cycles. After a bunch more charges later, let me tell this, the battery life did get significantly better. It lasted about 10-15 hr depends on the load of the usage.
Here is my typical day, off the charge at 100% in the morning, listen to a few songs, checking emails, and messages while getting ready for school. About an 30mn to 1hr of internet browser and youtube videos while on the bus. By 1-2pm the battery drop the about 70-80%. I put the phone in silent mood til i'm done with all my classes. On the way back home on the bus, I listened to a bunch of music, web browsing, maybe a few phone calls, texts or games.
Compare to my old phone, Samsung Galaxy S2 T989, im impressed with the Nexus 4 battery life. My Galaxy S2 battery always die on the bus coming back home. What I'm trying to get at: if you're a light to medium user like me, then get this phone. I was hesitate at first because I always have bad experience with android battery life. But Google seem to get its OS right with this nexus device, mainly because the battery drain minimum while in sleeping mood.
Can you post your Nexus 4 battery performance screenshot if you have been using the phone for more than a few days ?
Is there supposed to be a question being asked? Or a statement as this is in the Q&A forum.
I agree with you on many points. People need to wait at least 5 to 7 days for the battery charge to fully kick in. The first days mean absolutely nothing as it is still being aligned plus the user is still installing apps and setting up their phone.
There are some notable problems in the default kernel that uses more battery Usage than normal too.

From full battery to this overnight + breakfast usage. Rasbean + Matr1x v3.0. Never seen anything like it. Coming from the GN, this phone is a different dimension altogether. On any aspect..
Had phone for 5 days. Drained phone to 10% then fully charged. Moderate to light use made it through a day.
Stock rooted + Franco Kernel.

Depends on how much screen time you got, which you didn't show us.
The trick is to be careful about using mobile data when signal is bad, I switch to WiFi when home to avoid unnecessary battery drain.

What is this obsession for battery life, it lasts me well through the day with moderate/heavy use. I charge it at night (if needed) and unless you are homeleless this shouldn`t be a problem. It`s a great phone and i enjoy using it.

I thought the same until my N4 actually arrived, it seems battery life is abysmal compared to my Optimus 2x which didnt have anything really spectacular in regards to battery size. On my O2x I could get 1.5 - 2.5 days depending on use, hitting atleast 1 .5 which was good and acceptable for me (I can charge at night anyways) however my N4 doesnt even reach 13 hours on similar usage!.
I am quite a light users of smartphones however I do like to have a power phone when it comes to using it on the basis of smoothness and capabilities if I need to say do work on my phone, I rarely play games though. Main usage is 2 email accounts on poll 1 hour steps, a third account that is an exchange server and polls in 30 minute steps and thats about it with some brief browsing and a handful of texts (been a quite time since I got my N4), this is less usage than my O2x and yet it still performs alot worse!
I was hoping of staying with stock as I was expecting it to finally be good, comparing it to LG stock attempts it is but battery life isnt . I will be trying the combo Vangelis13 mentioned, raspbean and matr1x kernel as that seems like a great mix however Parandroid has been on the table and it seems like alot of being are getting good results so I will try it soon .
If I can get more than a day of usage I would be really happy, if I was playing games or doing really heavy tasks I wouldnt expect it to last but right now it is doing pretty much nothing and dieing far to fast!.
One thing I've noticed since coming to N4 from S2 is that phone calls drain battery much more significantly on the N4. I could make an hour long call on my S2 and it would use no more than a couple of percent battery but the N4 used 15% for an hour long phone call the other night.
If I didn't own a nexus 4 and came to this thread to find out about it's battery life I would expect it to be good.
Point is you guys are misinforming everyone. The battery is mediocre and that's it.
It won't last a full day if you use it constantly and I do need two charges / day many times.
Let me put it this way, you will only get roughly 3 hours of screen time on stock everything. If that is good for you then it's will have good battery life, if not then you will say it's got poor battery life.

you are perfectly right.
I come from an iPhone 4s, which I changed because the battery life wasn´t that great and I thought it was time to try something new.
Got the N4 last friday and played around with it during the weekend.
Monday, tuesday and wednesday this week... none of these days I´ve been able to come back home with the phone still on.
I wake up at 7.30am and I usually am back home at 6pm.
In my opinion, and honestly should be in everyone´s opinion, 10 hours of battery life are unacceptable, whatever the usage is (considering that 7.30 of those 10 hours I was at work)
I have till friday this week to return it, which is a pity because the phone is great
i get 5-6 hours sot..
rom is omnirom 5.1.1 hellscore kernel b73.
100mv undervoltage hellsactive governer.
think 7 would be possible if google services would not take a quarter of the battery.
the screen is not taking that much battery as one would think.
think most issues with battery life come from fake original battery replacements.
had 3-4 sot using "original" battery. but after replacing with real genuine from official lg spare parts shop 5-6...

4.2.2 stock battery life worse?

I'm noticing that battery life is worse in 4.2.2 - I was on cm10.1 nightlies w. Cm10.1 kernel and was getting about 10 hours screen-on time before I needed to charge, but I'm getting 7 hours at best on 4.2.2 stock (rooted, bootlader locked).
I have the usual culprits turned off - Google now, location services, currents background updates etc. So I hoped I would at least get the same.

Put the latest cm10.1 build on. They merged in 4.2.2.

I have never gotten more than 8 hours of battery life with 4.2.1, but so far on 4.2.2 I'm down to 73 with 3:30 screen time, so I guess it got better for me

Yes! I just read that. I am just about to do it now.
I can't comment on battery life, but did notice something a little alarming with regard to battery drain. Was on the couch for an hour talking to someone using viber, just plain text. No video or audio. Tablet was plugged into the wall, and after about an hour i noticed that the battery had gone from 100% to 98%. Should not be possible for a simple messaging app to cause the battery to drain faster than it can charge. screen was on auto brightness as well.

Did you look at your battery information to see what was using the most energy? Display is always far and away the highest for me, and if it was on Auto Brightness, depending on the lighting around you, it could have been running at full brightness...which would be a pretty massive drain on battery.

Once the device reaches a full charge it cuts off the power draw to avoid damaging the battery. It's normal for it to hover between 97% and 100% while still plugged in.
I barely get 6 hours of use now.

I did not look at battery usage, but the screen was generally dimmed, where as normally i have it manually set to full brightness, and nothing was running in the background that would not normally be running, that is to say nothing other than android stuff, it's basically a tablet for internet, email and skype/viber while i watch films etc on my computer

Indeed, but this has never happened before and i typically run the device with screen on maximum brightness. on 4.2.1 it would always show 100% when plugged in, i never once saw it drop to 99% or below.
So without further analysis of the issue, it could either be that something is sucking more power, which would seem odd, or that the update has brought about changes to the way the device charges, or changes to the way the device displays the battery level.
Damn guys, I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I'm jumping around in happiness when I manage to get over 6 hours of screen time lol.
I've been on battery for the past 12+ hours with about 6 hours 15 minutes screen time and still have 36% battery left. Battery seems at least as good as on 4.2.1.

if you are rooted change your processor speed to 1.5gHz, it really helped me get better battery life
so far at 6 hours of youtube with 50% left to go

Thanks, I've done this now, and get about 5~6 hours of screen time now with around 50% left.
My battery life has gotten considerably better after updating to 4.2.2. The biggest improvement is how little the battery life drains on standby...it's nearly nonexistent.

Standby has always been great for me. With stock rooted 4.2.2 I'm getting great battery life. Loses maybe 2% after 8-10 hours idle. In constant use I'm averaging 11 hours on screen. I have everything on and synced but as I'm indoors I stick to 30% brightness. Also, I'm mostly just browsing. With games the life would be less for sure. Totally satisfied with the battery life of this tablet. If yours is getting truly bad battery life I suggest you try searching for rogue apps. After that, try a complete reflash of the stock image which deletes everything. Another thing I've found that helps performance is setting the WiFi band manually. As I have a pretty good router that utilizes both the 5 and 2.4ghz bands I set mine to 5ghz only. I live in a town house and 2.4ghz can be pretty congested even after turning my antenna power up to 150mv or greater. The 5ghz band is pretty open. I'm getting load times on webpages comparable to my i5 2500k sandy at 4.5ghz and ssd with its 5ghz WiFi n wireless card. This is the quickest rendering tablet I've ever used.
As an aside, the complete re image to stock 4.2.2 from Google might fix reboot problems as well. It seems to do wonders for people with battery and other issues on early n4s. My screen on mine is new but the hardware is from launch day.

Well...
Well, I haven't tried that, but I have heard that many people said the update can help save battery.

My battery life is significantly worse after the update. I flashed back to stock 4.2.2. It seems that the problem with mine is my tablet isn't sleeping. Android os is the highest battery user. Maps is taking a lot too. I have Google now and location services turned on so I'll try disabling those again... No rebooting though

do you mean reducing the maximum cpu clock to 1.5 ghz?

Official Battery Life Thread

so maybe I'm blind, but i didn't see a battery life thread yet. post some shots with screen on time and how much time off charger!
right now mine is pretty terrible since it's less than 24 hours since I got it.. but i do hope it gets better, because it seems my g2 had better battery life right off the bat, but I'm sure this thing just has to settle in after a few charge cycles!!

For me, battery life suddenly doesn't matter as much, when it can charge so fast..
I'm in the same boat as OP. Think a few cycles will show how great this battery really is.
Same here. I'm on day 2, so I'm hoping it does improve.
battery life is pretty decent for me. Power using gets me through a day link to my moto 360 via bluetooth and on wifi about 50% of the time.
I've been listening to Poweramp since eight this morning. A little surfing, and I'm at 73%. I expect it might be a bit better once the battery has gone through a couple of charge cycles.
One thing I learned, was download booster is a huge battery hog! If you turn it on, it'll take days to charge to 100%.
I know the note is doing better than my old s3 though, because doing my same run using both my tracks and S health, rocket player, and taking panorama pics, I still used 10% less battery than my s3 did only running my tracks and rocket player.
Me trying to drain it. Amazing in my opinion
How do you post pics. I'm using the tapatalk app and it says my screenshot filesize is too large
My phone is randomly heating up, not sure why..only using facebook on wifi...1 day old..

yeah, but i disabled fast charging because i thought i read somewhere that using fast charge could degrade the life of the battery over time..yea yea i know, batteries are cheap, but still. idk. plus you always have to have the samsung fast charger with you, which i obviously don't do. but "slow" charging still charges fast enough for me lol
either way the battery is pretty bad for me on day 2. i've disabled A LOT of bloat though, so who knows. wish we had root; i'd use greenify like i used to on the G2...

i had same thing and i noticed that i had several email accounts setup, but when i go to each inbox, they were empty and the device was constantly trying to sync, but nothing would push both ways, and therefore after a few hours phone got real hot. battery was draining like 10 percent every 15 mins.
after some testing, i found out that if you go into email advanced options, disable group as email conversatinos, and that fixed all my stuff, battery is great
Eh, I don't even have other emails setup besides my Gmail app...

First cycle results not too bad if you ask me. Fully charged it yesterday when I got it and took it off the charger when charging was complete been off the charger ever since... I've been trying to kill it by playing games Web browsing YouTube phone calls and it still going strong...
Almost 12 hours or moderate use and the battery usage was 90%. To me coming from the Note 2 this is not an improvement. Anyone coming from a Note3 with any other thoughts.
This is my results coming from a 100% battery charge.
idk how the hell you guys are getting like 5 hour screen on time. how quick do you drop from 100 to 99 after you unplug from charger? mines pretty quick. it's annoying. the g2 would stick on 100 percent for 20 minutes of screen on time and an hour off charger. this phone is at 90 by then. ridiculous. maybe I'm just spoiled by the g2s amazing battery life.
right now I'm at 12 percent left, with 14 hours 45 minute off charger and 3 hour 26 minutes screen on time. android system is my humber one battery user.. not even screen. the hell?
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 using Tapatalk.
I say give it a few more days in order to better judge the battery. For the G3, the first few days had terrible battery life. The battery would last less than 20hrs and about 3hrs screen time. I was getting ready to dump it, but soon the battery life picked up. Now I always get over 24hrs with at least 4.5hrs screen time. Obviously two different devices from different manufacturers, but the point is to not be quick to judge it. My Note 4 will probably be arriving early next week.

yeah i hear you. if i recall, my g2 wasn't great at start either... but i cant really remember. anyway here was my final stats for today. it's on the charger now for a bit before bed.
my android system is higher than the screen on which is weird... never had that before on a phone.
