My bootloader hasnt been unlocked or broken in any way. Im using the kindle fire 2nd gen, and personally i prefer safestrap by hashcode over anything else, for the simple fact that it makes it alot easier for me to prevent any kind of brick.
Just so i know, has anyone used this on the kfhd And how well does it work? From my understanding it should work just the same as on my kft but i may be wrong

Try No Lock.

Make sure you move the widget locker .apk to your /system/app folder and then reboot. It worked for me.

@pm079 Thanks, this worked after setting permissions and changing ownership to root

WidgetLocker Lockscreen by Teslacoil Software
To All-
This is now a paid application and so we are not taking from a fellow developer, here is
revised instructions:
Lock Screen Step 1: Open Google Play Store, Search for "Teslacoil Software".
Lock Screen Step 2: The search results will return about 6 choices. Choose
"WidgetLocker Lockscreen"
Lock Screen Step 3: Next, pay $2.36. Then you will be presented with an
option to "Install". Choose "Install".
Lock Screen Step 4: Next Reboot. There is an odd bug if you do not Reboot,
so immediately reboot after the install has completed.
Lock Screen Step 5: Next, open Root Explorer. Using Root Explorer, Move
com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker-1.apk from /data/app to /system/app
Lock Screen Step 6: Check the permissions of com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker-1.apk
should be Owner: Read Write, Group: Read, Others: Read and Change
the Owner to 0-root.
Lock Screen Step 7: Reboot the Kindle, wait for the Kindle to Upgrade
Lock Screen Step 8: Launch Widget Locker and configure as needed.

KindleFireGuy and idontwanttobeanoob,
I new you must have been out of town since you are very good about responding to threads.
Also, it has happened to me. It is really hard to keep up with the software vendors, what is
free today may be a paid application tomorrow and just like that you have gone from a legitimate
post to an illegal post. The bottom line is: As long as you remove the link once you have been
made aware of the issue, there is no problem. Everyone have a great 2013 and than you for
taking care of the problem idontwanttobeanoob.

[GUIDE] Get Pattern Unlock Working On Stock ROM

UPDATE: See post #9 for Gesture unlock and skip the GoLocker lock screen page.
Sorry if this is already posted, but I would just like to point out how I got a pattern unlock working.
1. Download NoLock
2. Disable stock lock screen security
3. Using Es File Explorer or root explorer, copy org.jraf.android.nolock.apk from /data/app/ to /system/app/.
4. Restart
5. Install Go Launcher from the market.
6. Open Go Launcher, then go to menu - preferences - visual settings - go locker - then select go locker enabled.
7. Configure go locker security under security lock
8. Use go launcher and open No Lock, then click the big disable button.
Another way to install no lock is to use titanium backup and change no lock to system app.
The problem with that is, on restart, there is no notification or menu bar. To work around this:
1. Install SwipePad from the market
2. configure one of swipepads slots for no lock
3. On reboot, drag swipepads hotspot to the center, select no lock, then enable and disable locking.
Hope it helps!
By the way, you have to be rooted to read and write to /data/ and /system/
Thanks for this! I found this and tried it on my Nook Tablet and, low and behold, it works as well. Although do you know if there's a way to disable the first lock screen so that only the pattern lock is enabled?
Yea, you just have to get no lock from the market, follow step 3, or you could use titanium backup to change no lock into a system app.
Tell me if that doesn't work.

Well I did that already and it disabled the stock lock screen but not the primary GO Locker screen...does No Lock require any permissions changes?
Thanks!

That is very annoying, yes, but I haven't found a way (yet...)

I was using this method for a while, but found it possible to get around the screen lock when you first boot. Sorry, don't remember the exact procedure, but it was definitely possible. I gave up and went back to the stock locker.
Yes, it doesn't work on first boot, so if you are really concerned about security, you should not use this trick

Ok, I have found a solution. You have to grab the updated GoLocker apk, version 1.23 and install it onto the device. Now, if you look under Settings-Security Lock and check the option Password unlock, it will now skip the lock screen page. Also, you have the option of using a gesture or a pattern.
This seems like a great idea. Going to give it a try as soon as I figure out my root problem...
What issues are you having?

[Q] Cannot instak APKs files

Hey everyone,
I'm facing a problem which is kind of strange, today I tried installing an apk to my nexus 7 3g , the thing is I cannot press on the install button. I enabled install from unknown source already.
The strange thing is I can press on cancel but I cannot press on the install button ... shall i flash the stock again?
I'm on 4.2.1
Thanks
What is the app? Have you tried installing from Play or is this something you downloaded and are trying to side load? Incompatible apps won't install by design.
If the Install button doesn't respond, it means something is preventing the installation. The app may be incompatible or a file may be missing.
Go to setting security .. uncheck verify apps.... .Typing this from memory but i think that is where its at.... This is likely your issue.. Let us know..
Erica Renee
Did you look at all of the permissions it is requesting? It won't let you press install unless you've read all of the permissions.

I've been able to install my own apk files until two days ago. Now with the exact same apk that worked before, the Install button won't do anything at all. The Cancel button works fine. I've tried all the steps described in other posts for other devices but nothing works. I haven't changes anything on the tablet but the auto updated do occur.
Has anyone solved this problem yet?
Thanks.
I feel like you have to scroll to the bottom of the permissions list.

How to prevent uncommanded updates from amazon

Would like to begin a thread to get everyone's suggestions and ideas on how we can stop what happened with 7.2.2. We should have the power to choose when and where we update the devices we paid for, not Amazon. Any suggestions?.
I began by looking at the system files and the two that caught my attention were Amazon.device.client.platform and the download file. I froze both with Titanium.

There's a few suggestions about updates here: /showthread.php?t=1386463
I just renamed the otacerts file.. still 7.2.1

I renamed otacerts.zip yesterday....now I am on 7.2.2 till now. Will see tomorow.
May be this is really the solution for non OTA updates. :highfive:
I don't think renaming it is gonna do anything, i had renamed it prior to the last updated and still got it. However using the droidwall firewall, I have only enabled the apps I want to access the internet. Mainly blocking the system files and I am thinking that its gonna work.

Renaming it always worked on the old kindle fire and it seems to work on this one as well. I had renamed it, by placing the word backup right at the beginning and I didn't get the 7.2.3 update. I changed it and renamed it back to the original name and within 20 minutes my kindle had rebooted and updated itself.
If you want to make sure, maybe rename it and move it to another folder. I also did that once and it worked.

I renamed mine otacerts.bak when I did it still on 7.2.1 this was the only ota precaution I took... I have to wonder what the other guy did and what build he was on
Droid Wall
So after being updated to 7.2.2, I installed Droid Wall to block OTA updates instead of renaming the OTACERT file.
Unfortunately my device updated yesterday (to 7.2.3). So I feel the Droid Wall either did not work or the following system apps on the white list allowed Amazon of get access to OTA:
Amazon MP3
Appstore
IMDb
E-mail
Search
Shop Amazon
Download Manager, Downloads, DRM-Protected Content Storage, Media Storage
Silk
Have re-rooted, moved OTACERT file to a backup folder and removed Download Manager & Silk from Droid Wall's White List. Hopefully this should solve the OTA update issue. Though, I do realize that Google Play does not download app's without Download Manager.
Anyone else had similar experiences?
Glad to see we're having a discussion on this very critical issue. Having a vendor push unauthorized updates is not cool in any way.
I have installed Droidwall and blocked the following system files:
- 32028 Amazon Device Platform (ADCP)
- 32023 Amazon Runtime
- 32026 Docs
- 32030 INCh
- 32030 Kindle Free Time
- 32020 Kindle Setup
- 1013 Media Server
- 32033
- MobileAunthenticationPlatformAndroid
I've also frozen the following system files using Titanium:
- AmazonDeviceClientPlatform
- Amazon Game Circle
- Amazon keyboard
- Audible
- DRM ProtectedContentStorage
- Parent Controls
- Photos
- Silk
- Talk
- Yahoo Sync
Now that I think about it, I bet Amazon is unable to download anything using a third party browser like Dolphin. So disabling Silk should be one of your first steps.
FYI, my fire HD didn't update to 7.2.3 and the "update" button under "device, about" is disabled. My kindle is still running 7.2.2 and everything is running sweet.

I think we can almost safely say that renaming the otacerts file will prevent updates. I, like many other, also did that and my KF7 hasn't been updated for weeks. Seems to be a working method, unlike the various apps people are trying (without much success). Good luck

I'm inclined to agree. I have two KF7-HD devices. Both had been rooted when on 7.1.1; I had disabled most Amazon items that made sense in Droid Wall and I received the 7.2.2 update. I re-rooted successfully on 7.2.2. In addition to the Droid Wall, I renamed the OTAcerts file and I pointed the host name s3.amazonaws.com at 127.0.0.1 in the hosts file. I have not received any new updates as yet on either of the Kindles.
To take this a step further, I don't think Droid Wall will have any bearing on it from a logical point of view. From my recollection of the previous updates I saw happen, there was a push from Amazon during the bootup of the device --- it was booting and the boot would take extra long when a screen would then proceed to say updating; in this scenario, it never got to the first screen where one moves the pad lock. Logically, that tells me that Droid Wall never had an opportunity to start and prevent anything at all. Any prevention of "pushed" updates has to take place as the system is starting up. That means certain system files need to be disabled or it has to be prevented from even being able to see the update server.
I noticed today I had the 7.2.3 file in downloads directory... otacerts must have stopped it from installing

I changed the otacerts FILENAME, not the extension. (otacerts-bak.zip) The update may search for a filename called "otacerts" regardless of extension.
What will happen if I get an ota update? Will I just lose root?

[Q] Bypass exchange security

Hey all,
I'm coming from the Samsung Epic 4G touch ..... thankfully off sprint ......... that was a horrible 4 years of abysmal coverage .. slow speeds when it would connect .. and random disconnects thrown in just for fun....
I'm pulling crazy fast speeds everywhere I go ... Hit 50Mbps this morning on my commute..
However, one thing I liked about my samsung was that there was an APK to bypass the exchange security pin ...
Anybody know if the Epic 4g Touch (Sprint version of SGS2) APK will work on the G2? or if there is a version out there that will accomplish this ?
I saw one for the GS4 ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2355654
Didn't know if this would work on the LG G2 ...
Thanks in advance!!!!

Solution
I just did this on my own before seeing your post- hopefully you will find this useful.
I used this set of APKs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1965468
Grab Email-JB.apk and Exchange2.apk
First, you need to completely uninstall (not just freeze) the LG Email app. I used Titanium Back to do this- make a backup of the app first in case you ever wanted to go back for whatever reason. Once the LG Email app is uninstalled, you can install the 2 AOSP APKs.
I didn't try installing them normally (download->open->install), it's worth a shot- instead I used the directions in the post to push the APKs via ADB.
You should see "Success" after pushing both via ADB (I did Exchange2.apk first, but I can't imagine it would matter). Unplug your phone, open Email, and you're set. My Email is syncing perfectly with my corporate email, no lock screen password required.

YES!!!!!!!!!! This totally works..
Thank you for looking out, and thanks for posting this ... I've been waiting to be able to add this .. and having to carry 2 phones to check email because I didnt want to be pinlocked on my G2!!
My procedure -
Rom tool box free for the uninstall, the titanium way didnt work for me because I have TWRP installed .. and when it would try the recovery removal .. it would boot to TWRP instead of the stock recovery ...
Anyways, Rom Toolbox free has an uninstall utility, couldnt be easier .. uninstalls without a reboot needed.
Turned on wireless storage, copied over exchange2.apk and Email-jb.apk and installed through android .. didnt use the ADB method .... it works perfectly!!!!!!
Thanks again.
That works. Only downside is it removed the feature of peak and off peak for message retrieval. oh well.

Tried this several ways, but it does not install. Can u give some more direction on this? Do we put itf in the apps folders? Flash it? Any advice would be appreciated. I like the lg email app and don't want to go back to the stock one if possible.
if someone figures out how to do this with the stock email app that comes with the att version, that would be awesome. I like that version better than the one you have to install to get this to work.
I really hate having to use a pin, but I have to give my work permission to remote wipe my phone. Is there any chance this could be flagged by my employer and they remote wipe my phone? That would really suck because of the lack of memory card. Anybody that has been remote wiped, did it affect the entire phone, or just the main system?

I found A FOOLPROOF method to block all software updates on fire OS 4.5.6

This guide is for ROOTED AND NON ROOTED USERS]Ok so guys. I was just messing around because this auto update thing was annoying and found every single guide out there. Non of them did the job well. One even freezed the download at 100% but still in memory -_-
Soo I decided to do my digging myself and traced the exact sequence of the update to its core programs and believe it or not it doesn't even have the name ota or anything like that on it!
You can either do this rooted or unrooted but more efficient as root
It can work on any version as long as you see this program present>>>Amazon Device Client Platform or ADCP
Now I'm using a 3rd generation rooted and everything modded kindle (except custom Rom) but I am busybox and whatever
Which can be obtained by just downloading this loving program courtesy of peniscorp.com..if you wanna know if it works for you just download E.S file manager...goto /device and yes you can go there without root ..just go there and open build.prop and look.for Soho...if u see it...you're good to go ...
NOW LETS CUT TO THE CHASE
Step 1. Press the thanks.button down below
Step 2 Make sure u do number 1 lol
Step 3. Goto your device settings
Step 3 goto applications
Step 4 goto Manage applications
Step 5 in the drop down menu (assuming all versions have it )
And press "all applications"
Step 6 look for the program "ADCP" or Amazon Device Client Platform
Step 7 as non root user you can just fc it and clear data and cache and just avoid checking for updates! We don't wanna remind the device it should be installing updates
HOWEVER IF YOU ARE ROOTED
You could just fc it and use Droidwall or any other firewall app and look for that sucker and block it!
Don't ever try to uninstall it!
Rooted or not rooted ..those pesky updates won't bother u again!
Ps.
Droidwall is available on play store ...you can sideload it of course ..and the app it self has a pretty decent GUI so I don't think I need to get into detail on using the app
Well that's it folkes and believe me NO other ota update blocker works for the kfhd 7 2013 3rd generation and I have Looked everywhere and followed EVERY guide
They are Soo not fool.proof
So there you go guys hope it works as it did for me !
