[think tank][Request] 3.X.X Jellybean kernel for our play. - Xperia Play General

Currently our beloved xperia play is running the old gingerbread kernel, and development from FXP is about to come to an end for this device. So I made this thread to give our phone the chance to fully support Jellybean. So please anyone who can help is welcome on board. Here are some helpful links to get us started: http://source.android.com http://www.kernel.org http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423009. The last link is an example of what to do to find the UART debugging if needed to build the kernel. May the games begin!

edit: also zeus board isn't supported yet, need to be fixed too

iiri soft is more active on it now than kamarush, and I plan to port it to Zeus. For now he's doing interim updates like 2.6.32.60 which I have also ported to the Play (but has same issues as he does).

Ha, looks like kamarush has deleted it. He's mad.
As I said before though, irii-soft and ExPeacer have continueed work on it. See https://github.com/irii-soft/CAF_android-msm-3.0/
You can see how long/active it is by looking at the commit log. It's not going to come any time soon, if at all. There is still a LOT of work to do. 2.6.32.60 is only *just* working after a lot of his work, because he is removing/refactoring the strange stuff Sony adds in to make it more generic (i.e. his other kernel work will contribute to knowledge of porting 3.x kernel).

just a question:
are You guys working on a new kernel software for the xperia play to make jb functions working etc. ???

Well camera jusf works with a hack, but panorama is broken and touchpad is very buggy.
somethijg that very annoys me is the crash when watching videos.
and what about upcoming android versions...
jb is the last android version, that the fxp team will support on our xperia play, because its really hard work to make jb with our old gb kernels compatible

CM10.0
- latest cm 10.0
- sensors update (all 2011)
- youtube final fix (all 2011)
so youtube will work ok again.
we will get 4.2 (fxp just comfirmed it)
touchpad can be kernel related, but mostly project butter isn't fully working

Nope I believe the play is too old to allow project butter to run (Afaik) so it's not on any JB ROMS for the play

kamarush said he has got it working.
but because of people complaining at him he stopped developing for sony Phone like me (i also stopped since today)

Ok Nick proved me wrong xD

Because they are much more "open" than other major OEM's. I'd like to see you name one other recent phone from a major OEM that came preinstalled with Jellybean.
And he didn't say he stopped working on Sony because he didn't like them, but because the users are always complaining. And I know what they mean, it's annoying that people are so obsessed with having kernel 3.x and/or full working native jellybean on their phones that are nearly two years old. If they were really that dedicated and wanting of it, they'd learn something and try to help. Or simply give up on the Sony devices and leave us alone.

[Q] Android 3.0 on Xperia X8?

I have heard that some guys managed to port Android 3.0, better known as Honeycomb, to the G1, HTC Magic and to the Nexus One.
This are of course very beta versions, but the phones boot with it.
So, I wonder if someone could port 3.0 to our Xperia?
The HTC Magic and G1 were the first phones with Android, so our Xperia must be much better than them and, theoratically, it could work on it with just fewer lags than on the G1.
There are so many 2.2 and 2.3 ROMs available for our Xperia, so why not try to port 3.0?
If you think this is a stupid thread, just remove it, but I just wanted to know it.
Thanks in advance for your answers.
USE SEARCH FEATURE ON XDA AND YOU WILL FIND IT. Don't be lazy
You must be new here!
you will get burned at the stake by the guys here for opening such thread xD we are struggling to get a 100% bugless working android 2.2 and you bringing up android 3.0 which is meant for tablets with big screens xD lol
Edit : also such question is not meant to be in the dev section....
It was just a noob question...I also said that the versions for Nexus One, G1 and Magic are very beta versions.
There used to be an early version of Honeycomb somewhere here but the project has been abandoned. And no wonder - our kernel cannot even run Gingerbread without bugs, not to mention higher versions...
Even the kernel supports it, maybe phone will be too much laggy, as the HoneyComb suggests the need of 1.0Ghz processor, that is not our Case
So why they can run it on G1?
Does it have an unlocked bootloader, so you can flash a custom kernel?

Probably yes, Xperia stills locked and cannot boot custom kernels
Some dev are trying to make the bootloader bypass, but is not easy. :/

Graveir and aldee_s are right: someone has already ported it, but development is currently down.
here is the thread to it:

Blagus was disappointed with that, the only one that i saw making some progress was maxfron, but I didn´t saw him anymore
That had it ported but far to laggy m8 r CPU 2 slow at the min but I think I may still have that download ill cheack for u and upload it if so
my civic
Is because our phone is not ARMv7 & above and the processor speed is not super fast..if u port it into x8 it will buggy & lags in all of the function
Lets wait for 2. 4 but google need so much time : #

[Gen8] ICS on Gen8 (A70S) preview

Hi All,
Here is a quick preview of my first ICS build running on my A70S:
It's smoother than my initial run, I figured that 3D drivers were not kicked in when I made the comment on my other thread.
It's quite smooth even though there is some slowness from time to time. As it is, it's not usable, there are some crashes because network and sound are not working, but it's quite encouraging.
I may focus on Gen8 more than Gen9 finally as Gen9 will have Archos upgrade. Currently, only 3D and touchscreen are working... Don't expect much, I don't have enough time to work on this to make significant progress quickly.
Great...finally is something!!!
I you want some help, tell me....ok?
Looks great, that launcher is really smooth and it looks like a completely new OS.
Is there any chance that other talented developers working on the Archos will also jump on this with you? $aur0n, divx118, chulri?
God i cant wait for this give me wifi and i will be happy whats ram usage like?
for the buzz
http://www.jbmm.fr/?p=24894
Well, as expected, ram usage is sky high but it's almost untuned... I don't know yet if we can make progress regarding this.
I want first to have wifi and audio working, it should give enough stability to start playing with it. Then, todo list is huge...
Things that are going to be difficult is hdmi, ics doesn't like much the current clone model, and supporting other tablets as kernel changes are required for touch screen.
We'll see... Too bad that I have a job
Awesome!
Great work man! Looking forward to a full release_

This... Is amazing.. I never thought I'd see the day where even Honeycomb was running on the tablet. I really hope the main devs here see this and maybe combine. It's awesome having such a fine-tuned and packed UrukDroid, and it's pretty great finally seeing Gingerbread on our devices, but I think this is the true goal now!.. But that's just me

I also searched for ICS distributions for OMAP3630 base devices.

Am i right by assuming you used the 2.6.35 kernel sources?
I guess we'll need some efforts in the drivers, especially the tiwlan stuff, which should be build externally.

This is a start... and a pretty amazing one!!!
Hopefully i'll find some time the next weeks to look into the kernel sources more intensely.
Anyway, it will be no easy task to add the missing parts.
For the HDMI i guess there is a dead end, because there's still one proprietary module which might not work with newer kernel.
Maybe it could work on top of the GPL'ed parts which where published and might get compiled for newer kernel.
But who cares now...
Really impressive work!!!
Congratulations and best regards,
scholbert
Can you upload the rom just for testing features of ics ? It looks very good, great job !

No, in fact, this is 2.6.29 with Archos 3D binaries. ICS is patched to support old drivers, partly the same way it has been done in cm9 for other devices. I didn't test the .35 yet, I suspended my work on it in the middle, I'm not even sure touchscreen was working.
.35 would be good, I'm having few crashes in 3D drivers currently. I'm not sure yet if they're related to memory or bad interaction somewhere, still trying to get audio and wifi first.
Wifi should be relatively easy, i'm not very far. Audio is more complex, I tried simple solutions and it won't cut it, but with TI and Nexus S sources, we should be able to do something. Could take time though.
For the HDMI i guess there is a dead end, because there's still one proprietary module which might not work with newer kernel.

Well, with the new A70s coming with Honeycomb, we may be able to steal some binaries for 2.6.35 (or even 3.0 if Archos upgrade them to ICS). They're also 3630, and we should get the kernel source code someday.

Well, as it is, it's not usable. It crashes a lot and you can't do much without network.
I'd like to have at least wifi and if I can sound. Wifi to be able to do something with the tablet, sound because lots of crashes and slowness are coming from missing sound.
If it takes too much time, I'll release it but be warned that it's worthless currently.

There will be long wait to have a fully working jellybean on the Note.
Mostly due to Samsung who delays Note updates for newbies critical bugs (ie brick bug) and also to sell the Note 2. Why users will buy Note 2 if they have a fully working ICS/Jellybean on the first one ?
Kernel/FW sources will be released in a long time.
Concerning CM10, hope they will not face issues like working camera etc.
As an example, CM9 & Aokp/Aosp are ready for months on galaxy tab but still missing functionnalities & working camera which make them useless. Cause of no sources available for devs.

You just did not understand what i've written.
I am hoping that CM teams won't face these issues like camera even if they should not be concerned.
I am certainly not speaking about their awesome work but about the fact that if issues raise with CM10...it can be hard to fix since Samsung are not going to release the eventual sources needed before months.
Nevertheless, i am running CM9 and I love it. But there are still missing stock functionnalities. It is for users to know if they can live without them or not. Some absolutely need S-suite...other the Mhl...and for me, working camera especially for skype is a must have. That is why I have to run that **** of samsung stock over my gtab 8.9.
I am angry towards Samsung...not towards the different developers teams who litterally save us.
As an example, they fix the emmc brick while Samsung did not do it yet and force most of Note users to remain at Gingerbread..which just innacceptable for the ones who's getting the most money between manufacturers.
I also have the Xperia S...comparing Gb/ICS to samsung stock is just day and night. At the end...comparing to any devices I had/have..Samsung provides the best innovations and hardware but the worst system.

I have cm10 in all my devices but gnote and I completely love it.. What I don't get its the cm developers attitude here.. Handling people like they are gods and not giving a small preview or a single word about the jb rom

:good: totally agreed with that.
it's depending to Samsung. their to busy making big money instead of customers who facing problem with their own product. working too slow to solve their own problem and not appreciates value customers.
and yes ! i'm totally agreed with you, here Devs making a lots of improvement and modifications just to ensure satisfaction to enjoyed what we all paid of.
lets be patient. Xplodwild will start a new discussion thread once he releases it in the general section here

There will be long wait to have a fully working jellybean on the Note.

Here's come the legend! RESPECT!
Seriously, we can't wait to test JB in Galaxy Note!
I'll wait for the Butter.
Yeah, we got lucky. Unlike GB audio blobs in ICS, ICS audio blobs worked with a backwards-compatibility wrapper in JB.
I don't think anyone was expecting it to work but it did. I would've started working on the Note tree last night, but I got home late and am away from home almost all day today. xplod will probably have a tree up before I get home, he cheats by being 6 hours ahead of me in timezones!
Due to certain limitations of our graphics blobs, the majority of "butter" will not be present.

Out of curiosity, would the limitations be fixable, given time? Or is it just not-fixable and our Notes would forever be dry and crusty, without any butter?

CM10.1 is already pretty flawless for me
a fully certified working 4.2.2 AOSP would be even better!

It works for me to, and I love getting nightlies everyday that improve the odd bug..But to have a 4.2.2 that uses the proper binaries that sony cant release allowing us to have a stock experience and still have good battery and 3d performence and gaples playback etc would greatly help aosp for this rom AND fix some bugs for CM with some backwards engineering

This is the main reason I'm excited

[evervolv 4.3] Just for fun

Hey guys.
Since 4.3 is out, I wanted to test it on the x10, since my Wiko Peax is based on mediatek chipset and there's no way of building roms.
So there it is. First as a screen shot, but soon a released version.
For now I don't have any sim card to test if it works, but wifi is working. Same WLOD as for the 4.2 versions ... since I'm still using the 2.6.29 kernel.
Don't expect anything fantastic, it's slow, but nevermind, x10 never dies. ^^

Fantastic news
Envoyé depuis mon Xperia X10
Got to fix properly ramdisk, and add recovery and chargermon.
Today I've got to run the famous command that fixes the blinking screen since JB by hand by connecting to adb. So just got to make it clean, and I'll be able to provided the first version. Don't expect this before next Monday. Will only get some time this Week-end
I must admit Android v4.3 on a circa 2009 Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10i, would be quite something for show and tell,
I may even risk my perfect GB v2.3.4 configuration just so I can have a screen shot of Android v4.3 running.
[Update]
I read Android v4.4 is mooted to be released in a couple of weeks (maybe mid October)
Should we skip Android v4.3 and go straight to Android v4.4.....
Wouldn't it be a real wheeze if we got Android v4.4 on our XPERIA X10i before is was available for the XPERIA Z or XPERIA Z1
[crawls back into his box....]
