[Q] Unable to reboot to Recovery - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm unable to boot into recovery after flashing the [JB 4.2] - CleanROM 2.5 rom. The ROM has horrible performance issue and I'm unable to flash a different ROM now. I have try going to reocvery by press & hold volume up+down and power button to go into bootloader (which works) and when I go to recovery mode I get the following screen. I get the same screen when doing it with ADB (adb reboot recovery).
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
UPDATE: I also noticed that this ROM has changed my folder structure. All the folders used to be stored in /sdcard/ directory. Now it keeps moving ALL my folders into a /sdcard/0/ and android auto populates new folders. it did it twice and now my folder and files are located in /sdcard/0/0/. Any fix to this?

LMAO!

The stock recovery, yes. You need to use goomanager or rom manager to reinstall the custom recovery. At which time you should be able to put things back together.

The ROM did not change your file structure. It is the 4.2 update that does that. Doesn't matter stock or custom ROM you are gong to get the new file structure.
Clean ROM may have killed performance for you, but you have something else going on because Clean ROM is working great for many many users.
As for your growing 0 folders you need to update your recovery to stop that from happening.

It's fine, this is Windows Default . You just have to switch to Sense.
To do that just press Start Button --> Settings --> Home --> *Switch to Items* --> Make sure "HTC Sense" Is checked and "Windows Default" Isn't .
There's nothing wrong with that - it's the Windows Today screen. I'd recommend doing a hard reset since you just got it.
Turn off the phone, hold down both volume down and volume up buttons, and briefly press the power button. Then follow the on-screen instructions.

Based on the pics, I guess you need to flash a new rom since it looks like a chuckydroid rom.

Its either a stripped own windows designed for using as a base to boot into Android OS, or it has had sense disabled via settings.
Go download the windows ROM you want as your OS, extract the .nbh file, rename it to "leoimg.nbh" put it onto root of your sdcard and reboot phone and then hold volume down key and follow instructions.

i put the leoimg.nbh file, nothing happened. it booted back to the same screen.
do i click power, THEN vol down ?
i also left all of my other files up there.. will that interfere?
Place the downloaded leoimg.nbh on the root of your memory card, hold down vol-down button and then hold down power-button until the screen wakes up. If you have done it rigth, instructions should appear and you just follow them...

What recovery do you use???
Thanks for your response.
I'm a complete newbie.
I'm not sure, how do I find out ?
All I did was install the standard ROM by downloading it, copy it to the sd card and restarting whilst pressing Vol+, Vol- & the power button on my U8650.
Then I rooted it by restarting whilst holding down Vol+ & Power and then selecting the root.zip.
After that I tried the same with your zip !!
That's all I've done since I've had the phone.
OK, not so much of a newbie anymore.
Managed to install a CWM and then your ROM
Seems a bit slower. But it's beautiful.

Hope this helps.

boot animation not working

Hey all,
I'm sorry if this is a rehash of somebody else's problem, but I did some searching and couldn't find anything that seemed applicable to my situation.
Running Nexus S with cyanogenmod 7.1.0.1, downloaded from http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=crespo
I am also running the latest ClockworkMod Recovery, having just updated it today. I updated via the internal update function on ROM manager.
Everything is working find, except that no matter what I do, boot animations don't run, and I get a black screen instead. The only time I didn't have a black screen was the first bootup after installing cyanogenmod update from sdcard via clockwork. This showed the default bootanimation. I then attempted to install the Speedo II animation from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053250
Immediately after, I only got a black screen on bootup. I tried flashing the bluehallway animation (also from same gallery). I then tried using SDK to push both animations to the phone at /system/media. Neither worked. I also tried to use ES file manager to swap out the bootanimation files in /system/media/ manually. Neither worked.
I then re installed CyanogenMod and repeated the steps listed above. Same result.
As far as I can tell, I have been undergoing the same procedure as when I changed my bootanimation to red rage (don't remember where I got it) On a previous version of CyanogenMod.
I have no idea what the problem is. Please help!
Sounds like it wasn't compressed properly
choose STORE in compress method when zipping back your animation sounds like they chose normal compression and this causes the desc and bootanimation not to work and all you get is blakcscreen
anyways try flashing mine
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1471708
Welp, that works perfectly. Thanks a ton! So could you explain the whole compression thing you talked about?
when you compress the boot animation back up it will be on normal compression by default you don't want this. You have to select store

if you're installing them in /system/media/ make sure to not have any bootanimation.zip in /data/local/ because that's where the system look up first

[Bootanimation] >3 bootanimation

i like it besides the random last part that's red.. which i don't know what its about
I love it! However, to this day I still don't understand why certain boot animations cause the boot to freeze. Which is a problem I unfortunately have with this boot animation.
Looks nice!! Can you make one with the adventure time characters? .!!

i'm sorry.. i tested yesterday over a stock and no problem..
have same problems on N7 ... i don't know why
I will share the frames and You can use, rescale to other resolutions...and try to fix or send to a bootanimations expert because don't have much time ..
You can try also to follow all the guidelines here, and also ask to the creator of bootanim factory

long-press power button + volume up + volume down until it shutdown... after that reboot immediately in recovery and connect your phone to a pc..
Copy the stock bootanim inside platform tools folder on your pc or where you have adb and other tools
download the boot from here
http://d-h.st/4kc
Open a terminal in platform-tools folder
in recovery select install zip from sideload..
and sideload the bootanimation
Code:
adb sideload kitkat_Bootanimation.zip
it will flash the stock bootanim, reboot when finished and you will be able to boot your phone

[Q] Editing Kernel For Galaxy Y Duos

My Question is about editing kernel's built In Recovery.
the kernel has cwm recovery but i had a new one :victory: so i want make it permanently by editing kernel's recovery
But when i replaced files i fount that the new cwm has folder etc that isn't exist in the kernel so i added it with the files in it and repacked
so the question is
Will That Make Any Thing Wrong In The Kernel?
If yes
What Would Happen If i flashed it?
and if the kernel failed to be flashed what would happen to the phone ?
The Phone Is Galaxy Y Duos
In the worst situation, your phone will get blasted and you'll suffer from Hypothermia.
Make a backup and then flash the kernel.Nothing will happen until or unless your recovery is not integrated properly. You might probably face a black screen though.
I already flashed it and recovery is working but i got strange problem that after phone boot up 3 seconds or 5 then it gave the boot animation and open again then the same give the boot animation and open and still luke that until i flash the original kernel
so where is the problem?
to know that the cwm that i add is the same files that i removed from the original kernel except the etc folder that i add .

you should not be adding etc folder... in normal boot /etc is symlinked to /system/etc
