bluetooth car handsfree issue - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Bluetooth bug and not just a compatibility issue with my car radio and the N4's BT 3.0/4.0 firmware. I confirm it is not an issue with my car's headunit (Porsche CDR30 w/sound package plus) since the problem is the same with my Note on CM10 but the Note works fine when flashed using pre-CM10 ROM. My symptom is that all pairing completes and contacts export to car and import to car address book. Calls can only be made using phone though. Car does use speakers and mic supporting call but that's it. Handset must be used as dial pad and accept/end/hold/swap calls. I have two other older phones with pre JB OS and younger BT versions working with car no problems.
If you have any N4 BT/car issues, please post.

Hi there.
Parrot mki 9200 here and N4 working good here for contact sync, calls and A2DP. Having trouble with parrot 2.11 update, but that's non phone specific.

I have an audio-dropping issue with my 06 BMW 330i, factory head unit.
I have a normal conversation for 5 minutes or so, then their audio goes away. They can hear me fine, but I cannot hear them.
I'm interested in a solution as my Nexus S worked perfectly before the Nexus 4.

Interesting that my issue is associated with my Nexus 4. The bug is on JB stock 4.2, 4.2.1 stock, Modaco custom Jr1 and Jr2, as well as the CM nightlies I am now flashing and using on my phone. I am getting service Saturday and asking Porsche dealer service tech to update the CDR30 firmware to eliminate head unit as problem.

Strangely enough, my N4 BT worked fine for the last two conversations yesterday, 10 and 25 minutes, respectively, and worked fine for a 25 minute convo this morning. I'm definitely waiting on it to drop again. Post an update once your dealer updates the SW and you have a chance to test.

Will do

My issue is likely related to my car's head unit Bluetooth radio firmware. Service tech unable to get his ICS Droid to fully interface with car's hands free functions. So it seems........

OK, the plot thickens I guess. BMW firmware is definitely sensitive to Bluetooth profiles also, but functionality seems to be there so I'll hope for the best in regards to call stability. Good luck and keep us updated.

[Q] Bluetooth car connection

Problem : car :
Peugeot 407 (2008)
device : Nexus One (Rodrig. latest)
I always had troubles getting my device paired with my car, but mostly after a while or installing "bluetooth file transfer" it worked.
However not anymore. Does anybody has an idea what the problem could be? Are more people experiencing this. The devices see each other but they can't connect/pair to each other.
I also tried the app. "bluetooth fix" but it gives an error. Even after reinstalling the "Super User" app from the market.
(sorry I wanted to replace it to Q & A)
linking and transfer of phonebook is good, but quality is very bad. It is difficult to hear the other side, most of the time I have to take it from handfree and talk into the phone directly...
using cm 6.1 rc1
Had that too. Use a kernel without audio-mod.
It works but not really at the same time ..
I can receive calls but I didn't manage to get my phonebook on the car or make a call from the car, I have to dial through the phone.. Not sure actually if its possible or not with my car anyway...
Phone: Nexus One - CM6 nightly 263, with radio 5.12 and Wildmonks 112210 kernel
Car: VW GTI 2010 - RNS510
Does anyone also have a problem with using his bluetooth?
My phone sees my car's bluetooth but can't connect.
It always gets rejected!
It used to work on early Rom releases.
I am searching the net and this forum but I don't see any solutions.
There is an app on the market to fix bluetooth but it didn't work
Problem car: 2010 Audi S4
Phone: Nexus One (ATT) 2.2.2 (unrooted) Radio 5.08
Phone pairs. Cannot answer calls through the car controls. Must answer physically on phone in order to answer call. If picked up by car controls, the car says connected but no audio.
The system used to work perfectly before while on eclair 2.1. I think Froyo screwed something up for me.

I'm also on CM with audoio issues. which kernel did you use, and is it affecting other areas of your phone pos/neg? i.e. do you recommend the switch?
The latest from wildmonks without Audio Boosts are :
http://wildmonks.whoisthedrizzle.com/kernel/2.6.35/010411/No_Audio_Boost_CM6/
These are good.
However I can't even connect anymore (had the no audio boost too when in the time it could connect)

I also have an A4 with nexus one on CM 6.1 (still with audio boost) and it works perfectly (except for the sound quality). So might be a specific issue on your phone side, or maybe the new audi SW (mine is from 2008). have you looked at this thread?

[Q] Hands free bluetooth issues (Merc B Class)

Hi all
Sorry if there is another thread with this already but I am at the end of my tether!
I have a Galaxy S4 with Android 4.2.2 and am having problems when paired to my Merc B200 with Audio 20.
I believe this may be a common problem but I just need confirmation from someone in the know.
ISSUE:
I can pair with the head unit no problems, but when I make and receive calls, there is no audio. Apparently the other end can hear me, but I am unable to hear them.
Audio is on max, both on the phone and the audio 20.
Any ideas? Is this a software issue?
I did contact Samsung, who obviously told me that this was down to the car manufacturer and MB told me to buy an older phone (great advice!).
My wifes Iphone 5 works flawlessly, as did my Iphone 4s.
MB seem to be under the impression that a car firmware update will no resolve the problem and basically I am scuppered. Surely bluetooth should be backwards compatible!!!
Cheers
Andy
I got a blackberry to work with a mb car kit a while ago, not sure of the symptoms the user was seeing but he was pairing from the phone to the kit. I tried pairing the phone from the car kit and it then started to work flawlessly.

might be a similar issue
Not sure if it's the same thing but I'm at a loss as to what to do. I bought the Jaybird SB2 bluetooth headset. I've read elsewhere others have had issues connecting to Mac's (I have the same connection problem with my Macs) but they worked fine with my old Galaxy S2 (when it had pre-jelly bean rom). As soon as I upgraded the sounds cuts out after a couple of minutes although the player says the music is playing. I can get it to work again for another couple of minutes by disconnecting then reconnecting the bluetooth. I then flashed a custom JB rom (supernexus I think) on the old S2 and everything worked perfectly. I've just got my stock S4 and the same problem with the bluetooth keeps happening.
I can only think it's a software problem since the headphones work perfectly with my Nexus 7 and my old S2 with this custom rom but I can't find anything online elsewhere recording the problem. Not really sure where to turn for help since I doubt Samsung will care.
Unsure if 100% related, but I've had some issues with BT on my Subaru Outback ('13).
When I am (simultaneously):
1) Charging
2) Connected to my car stereo via Bluetooth
3) Playing music (using default GS4 music widget)
4) Navigating w/ Google Navigation
The Google Navigation voice cuts out half way through giving the direction.
"In 250 feet, turn right onto" ... ... ... ... nothing
It's really horrible, especially because this is the PRIMARY use for my phone (car audio & nav).
Update:
Winamp doesn't interrupt nav, but I lose BT controls on steering wheel.
AVia doesn't either and keeps BT control functionality.
All music players I've tried, however, just seem to crash at random...
They either stop altogether or think the music is still playing but no audio is on.
All of this is resolved by using Aux instead of BT.
This is what leads me to believe it is BT related.
Anyone with experience or help here, that'd be awesome...
I've had a breakthrough with mine
I installed an app called 'Soundabout' from the playstore that reroutes any audio to a BT device, this did the trick, I now have audio both when making and receiving calls.
It also works for a2dp streaming issues.
The odd thing is though, I deleted the app afterwards just on the off chance that it fixed anything in the background.... And it did! My BT audio is now working seamlessly without the app!
I am currently running a flashed stock rom (XXUAME2).
Hope this helps others

Hi,
I have the same issue.
I have just got my new Galaxy S4, everything is working fine except the Bluetooth. I am having trouble to use the Bluetooth on my 2011 Toyota Car corolla. I am able to connect to the Bluetooth, and play music but problem with starting to make a call. when I say "starting to make a call" means I can make a call, but the receiver can't hear me and I can't hear them neither. I was able to answer the call or hang up, everything is working fine except no voice come out from the speakers.
The funny is it will work if I use Apps to make a call, such as Skype, viber.
I can't find any solution so far.

4ndynic you're a legend! My wife got an S4 and it didn't want to work properly with our Mercedes with the native bluetooth. I installed Soundabout (non Pro version), went into Bluetooth Behavior, turned on (Dynamic) Media Audio Usage, and now it works perfectly!! I especially love the fact that the alerts for SMS etc still come through the phone.

It appears that the setting may revert if you turn bluetooth off and back on again. After doing that, I had to go back into soundabout and untick then retick that box. Can anyone else confirm this behaviour? It certainly appears to be a default setting in the operating system causing the issue, which means it may be possible to fix with a patch, and Samsung should certainly be able to fix it in a future update.

Bluetooth streaming audio stuttering persists in Android 4.3

Hi fellow xda'ers
I got the 4.3 OTA today for my Nexus 4 and the problem of stuttering bluetooth audio persists for me.
This is in reference to the bug described here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39633
I also unpaired my phone and re-paired it but still facing the same problem.
So, just wanted to ask around...
1. Is anyone still facing this same bluetooth audio bug like me in Android 4.3?
2. Can anyone who had this bug in 4.2.2 confirm that it got resolved for them in Android 4.3?
Thanks..

I am using my phone with a Clarion car stereo.
The issue now is much rarer than it was before.
I guess I need to test it out for a few more days.
Thanks..
Worked fine for me in 4.2.2 .... now in 4.3 LOTS of stutter and occasional drops. Very annoying and probably related to the change of Bluetooth in 4.3 ... hope someone comes up with a fix, otherwise I'll need to go back to 4.2.2 as I use Bluetooth for music lots. Anyone that can help ... ??
I was excited to see that as soon as I upgraded from 4.2.2 to 4.3 my bluetooth streaming worked flawlessly in my car for a 2 hour drive into the mountains. However, a couple days later the stuttering came back, just as you described.
This was the one thing I was looking forward to for 4.3 but it looks like we've been let down.

I'm not really sure, what's happening.
I tried earlier on with Poweramp Player (third party app) and Google Play Music, I had stuttering in both the apps.
Then I decided to unpair the phone/stereo, change the phone name and then re-pair. Just wanted a fresh start..
After that, I had the stuttering problem whenever I used Poweramp player. The problem happens within 5-7 min. However, when I use Google Play Music, it seems to work fine. However, I haven't tested it for long. Maybe 1 hour max, so can't say if my hypothesis is correct but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. After 7 months with this phone, I really need to get Bluetooth working.

I'm in the same boat. But I really am wondering if looking at the software/apps used is the wrong method. I've been doing the same thing. Over the past 7 months I've tried various ROMs, kernels, radios etc. and nothing changes it. I've talked about it with various friends with Nexus 4's and none of them seem to have any issues.
At this point my money is on the Clarion stereo being the issue but I still have not tested the phone with another stereo. This weekend we are visiting my parents. I will try using the phone with the bluetooth on my Mom's 2013 4Runner and my Dad's 2010 F150 to see if I can replicate the problem. If it works with both their cars then I will be in the market for a new stereo.

It seems the problem is with our Clarion car stereo indeed. A lot of Clarion stereos have bluetooth issues:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t12082313-bluetooth_audio_streaming_breaks_up
http://community.crutchfield.com/car_audio_and_video/f/27/receivers/t/22006/clarion-cx501-bluetooth
Phones like iPhone 4, Lumia 920 and Moto Razr also seem to have these problems.
My stereo CX501 doesn't have any bluetooth firmware upgrade too. Though, they have provided some firmware update for some other stereos like NX501 and so on. So you should check out on their site for a firmware upgrade.
http://www.clarion.com/us/en/support/compatibility/bluetooth/index.html
I really think you're right. I tried streaming music through my girlfriend's car stereo last night and had absolutely no issues. I've also read the threads you linked to as well as a few others and the consensus is that Clarion keeps trying to pin the blame on the phones and not their receivers. Looks like it's time to change stereos...

You should at least check if there is a firmware upgrade available for you on Clarion's support site before spending on a new stereo.
Unfortunately, it's not available for my stereo CX501.
I have stuttering too on both my A2DP devices. Both are cheap: one is from DX, th eother is from a local 'dollar store' (where it was 10 euro or so).
The one from the dollar store seems to work fine after pairing, but not when connecting again.
The one from DX (z nice plug for the aux in of the car, with a mic and henadsfree speakers through the car audio) seems to stop stuttering after a few minutes. The audio level is a lot better with 4.3.
But no difference in stuttering beween 4.2.2 and 4.3.
Problems remain
I have found no improvement with my Nexus 7 with Android 4.3. I get stuttering every minute or so. I've done a bit of reading and found that Bluetooth is hellishly complex - and would be very difficult to debug. For instance to set up audio streaming, both devices need to agree on a codec to use. There is a default base level codec. As I have found that the issue is worse on some bluetooth receivers than others, I can only guess that the issue relates to Android's selection of a codec or other parameter on some devices. I certainly have no issue with any device streaming from my windows laptop (no matter how busy it is).
I have the exact same issues with bluetooth stuttering.
Using 4.2.2 PACman rom on my Note 2 with a Sony MW600 bluetooth adapter, the audio would switch off for a second every minute or so, whether using Google Play music or PowerAmp, but it seemed to happen less on the former.
Updating to 4.3 has made it worse, the audio now switches off for at least 5 seconds to the point where i have to check if the phone or app has crashed each time.
I never had an issue with the Revolution HD rom (I think its called?) but I believe that's mostly stock?
It kinda feels like the bluetooth can't handle the bandwidth depending on the size of the file. I think there's less stuttering on lower quality files - could just be in my head though.
I have a Galaxy S3 i747 running latest 4.3 CM10 rom. My audio stuttering actually got worse when upgrading from 4.2.2. Using platronics 903+ and a bluetooth stereo unit for my motorycle helmet.
Very disappointed. My work iPhone doesnt skip a beat.

Bluetooth issues in car

Hello everyone, I am borrowing a oneplus 2 from a friend while my phone is in for repair, I have had it for about 12 hours now and have found an issue with the Bluetooth, when connected to my car (its a JVC aftermarket stereo) it loses connection every 30 seconds. I have tested the JVC with my girlfriends Sony xperia m2 aqua and it works flawlessly, has anyone else had this issue?? And if so, how did you fix this?
Thanks
Yeah I dont have connectivity issues but I don't get any audio controls through my car or song info. I think it is all software related issues.
Sent from my ONE A2005 using Tapatalk
I can report that the oneplus 2 have problems connecting to MB car audio system. Phonecalls work but music from the phone to the car don't work. It is a new MB c-class 250.

I also have BT problems with my car. My car has BT for phone calls only, so I also use a BT to 3.5mm adapter to my aux input. When I connect to both, it keeps pausing my music every 5 seconds. Once I disconnect from the car BT, then the music plays fine. Very annoying. No problems with any of my other phones.

@Mackis Haven't tested music on mine, but I have a 3 month old MB A180 special edition. Voice working 100% I use the usb port in the car and play music from the usb drive. Much better than bluetooth, you can change folders etc, were you cant on bluetooth!
I'm experiencing the same issues. I'm an authorized dealer for Volkswagen and Škoda and cross-tested several radios this morning. Very annoying.
I have a Clarion fz709 and the OPT works great with it on BT. The radio is old as dirt too. Works for calls and music.

Several issues on BT here, too. The connection to an Audi MMI and phoning working properly, but no audio controls or Phonebook synchronization. In a german board the app Bluetooth Phonebook is reported to solve the problem with the synchronization. Will check that later on today.
hi, i've bluetooth problems too. audio and calls are perfect, but my contacts are not transferred in the radio... this is so uncomfortable! anyone have same problem?
With my Ford Focus everything works fine!

i've toyota auris...
These are two different issues with BT and car radio:
case 1: can not or not correctly sync contacts (in my case all numbers where labled 'mobile' and some where missing).
case 2: no support for audio control while playing or no playing at all
possible solution for case 1:
( all credits for discovering this app goes to psychonaut at Android-Hilfe.de Forum )
First check out the trial version to test if it fixes your problem!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android_rsap.irmctest
If yes then go buy the full version:

There may be a solution for case 2 but I do not know of any nor can I test it because the Parrot Asteroid (Android Car Radio) works without a problem for case 2.

Hi,
with my Renault Megane 2010, the RadioSat, now, Works fine, after the update to 2.1 OxygenOs.
My Bluetooth problems gone away.
Now I have full functional hands free system. Tanks Oneplus.
Regards
Yes! I also can confirm my posting from Sunday, that the App Bluetooth Phonebook solves the issue of not transferring the phonebook (at least for my Audi MMI).
Problems with Volkswagen Discover Media Pro too:
- address book not syncing
- cannot play audio
- not able to make calls
however:
- i can see text messages (SMS)
- i can see the call list/history (obviously i only see telephone numbers, not the contact names, since the address book is not syncing)

My new Skoda Octavia isn't working with Oxygen OS 2.1.0. Connection works for 5 seconds and then the whole thing hangs. Good-news is that this is indeed software related as CM12.1 CustomRom from Garak works with Contacts/Spotify/Telephony
This will fix all your problems guys!
Bluetooth Skipping Fix: if you have a conflict or issue with your bt add this line to build prop using root explorer..thanks Shrek and reaper

Indeed: different rom (SlimLP for me) works flawless. Calling, text messages, play music, everything.
Now let's see how stable it is and how the battery lasts.
I wonder if the build.prop fix mentioned above works. Hope we can get some confirmation about that. That would be a good alternative.
Phonebook sync doesnt work for me either, but music and controls do - no song infos, but my car never showed those. Kia ceed 2015.

Problem: phone contacts to KIA handsfree system?

Hello,
OPT does connect properly to KIA audiosystem. Phonecalls & Spotify music for example transfers to the system OK.
But my phone contacts doesn´t. I suspect it´s something with PBPA!
With app Bluetooth Phonebook (trial) this problem dissapears,
is there any FREE app or anothr possibility to replace PBAP service or profile in my OPT with working one?
i can confirm that i have the same issue with volkswagen passat b8 - hope this will be fixed as soon as possible.
edit:
I tried Bluetooth Phonebook and yes it works - i decided to pay the money and use this solution as it is much safer to have it working right away not to wait it is going to be solved by OnePlus. And on other hand the cost of App was so tiny compared to the damage what could happen if acciden would happen during driving.

Same here Skoda 2014 Bolero System, I filed a ticket to OnePlus but a message told me it will take up to 10 Weeks till I get feedback.
For me the issue is worse as the Phone shows as connected but calls and audio are not working(only for 10 seconds)
BTW CustomRoms don't have this issue but are unstable and without LTE at the moment.
My current Rom were Bluetooth and Car Stereo Works --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-2/development/rom-cm-12-1-temasek-mod-v1-t3200217
Good to hear that I'm not the only one with this issue, will most likely be fixed the question is when
