has anyone got the mhl cable to work. - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried using the Samsung mhl cable that I used worth my gnexus but it would not work. When I plugged in the gnex it worked, but not nexus 4. I then tried my wife's nexus 4 and same thing. Do you think I need a diffident cable. Can anyone confirm if they got it to work

It uses a new standard called slim port. Its like having a display port. There is only one cable out that I have found on amazon but its $30. Sucks they changed that standard but it is what lg is doing. Do seem to have a few advantages over mhl.

Eww, I was hoping it is backward compatible with MHL
Now connection to my Pioneer AppRadio will have to be reworked.
Not really much of an availability of these slim port HDMI adapters either... that one from Amazon doesn't seem to ship outside US :banghead:

Video Out.

Hey everyone!
My Nexus 7 will be here Wednesday (YAY!)
And I just read that the USB port isn't MHL
Without buying the Nexus Q (All I have in the country is my 4g tether) how can I use an external monitor on my new tablet?
I noticed that there are 4 pogo pins on the nexus 7 vs the 3 on the galaxy nexus. Is there video out on these? Also my M18x has something called WI-HD that allows me to wirelessly transmit my monitor signal to a reciever connected to my tv. Is there any way my new tab can do something similar? I suppose I can just use my galaxy nexus for my Play TV shows but I was kind of looking forward to playing games on the big screen.
Thanks!
Bump. any suggestions guys?
There is no cable solution... chances are there will be a software WiFi Direct solution, but not yet.
Thanks for the info.

HTC has WiFi media steam thingy box .... although I think it works only for videos

HDMI out without slim port adapter?

Can I just buy a normal micro USB on one end and a HDMI on the other or is the slip port a requirement on the nexus 4 for video out? I can't seem to find anything about it. Thanks

This works as well.

Unfortunately from what I have read, the N4 isn't compatible with MHL which really sucks because I have the stuff left over from my HTC Sensation.
The Nexus 4 utilizes Slimport which is based on the DisplayPort technology

Link to adapter on Amazon, works well with Stock and Paranoid from what I remember reading, not sure why others haven't merged it. I use it on CM10.1 despite not cloning the display properly, hopefully it will be fixed in one of the nightlies at some point.

I ordered today the slim port. Will be here tomorrow and I'll let you know how it works.

Ah, no, no they are not.
The S3 and Note 2 used an 11-pin MHL adapter, when all other phones use 5-pin MHL adapters. 5-pin ones don't work in the S3/Note 2, and the 11-pin ones don't work in anything else.
I expect the S4 will take the same 11-pin adapter that the S3/Note 2 use - HDBlog have a YouTube video showing the Samsung Gamepad being demo'd with an S4 in a Smart Dock which requires the 11-pin connection.
I have both kinds of connectors, so I will check once I get hands-on if no one else has by then.
No source...I have the At&t S4 and the mhl from my S3. It works and will even work w/o the external power to the mhl adapter

I also wonder if it will work with the multimedia dock for note 2 / sgs III as I might get one but feels it's too pricey if it's not future proof.

As I mentioned above HDBlog have a video showing an S4 in the Smart Dock to demo the Samsung Gamepad. As soon as I get hands-on I will test with my Smart Dock.
You can also use an 11 to 5 adapter. Works fine on my Note2.

That's weird, I'm certain I read what you wrote earlier but somehow I missed the dock part. Great to hear!

Have you gotten your hands on an S4 yet? The information is scarce but on some sites the multimedia dock is now listed as compatible for S4 / SIII / Note 2

I'll have my S4 on Saturday NZ time.
Samsung themselves now have it on their accessories list as compatible.
It works but mine won't charge the phone unless I'm using the 2A charger that came with the S4. It will work with out external power as well.

Adapter Issue
Guys – I have been using a MHL to HDMI adapter on my Note 2 for several months and it is terrific, but with the S4, the phone indicates HDMI Cable Connected, but the TV indicates “connecting” then drops out and will display “no signal”. Any thoughts?
Follow-Up - I connected the same MHL connector and S4 to my Samsung 50" and it works....the LG 60" (which worked with the Note 2 and same connecter / cable) will not work with the S4. Suggestions?
I'm so excited to not have to use the plug in power port all of the time. I understand that it won't charge but still exciting
5 pin to 11 Pin question
I have the Samsung S II MHL adapter. If I purchase the 5 pin to 11 pin adapter do you think the S2 MHL adapter paired with the 5 pin to 11 pin adapter combo will work on my S4? I would assume it would since others confirmed the S3 MHL adapter works. All I know for sure is S4 uses the new "MHL 2.0 Standard" . Any info is helpful. ThX! :good:

I'd just get a cheaper version off Amazon/Ebay.
Are you aware of one on eBay that you stated?

Otg cable

Hi guys anyone point me in the right direction pls where to buy a otg cable for advent tegra note 7 pls or any compatible otg cable,s will work with it , tnx
Sent from my XT1032 using xda premium
anywhere you want. I got mine from Amazon, but as there are no differences in them afaik, you can buy almost any cable you find when searching for "USB otg".
just check if it has a micro usb out at one end, and a usb in on the other end.
and don't pay to much - I got mine for like 3€.
if you are not sure just paste a link of one here and we will check.
Tnx m8 bit of a noob so could u post me a link of the one working with urs pls

I have tested this one, it worked with my USB digital to analog converter (DAC) and my USB microSD card adapter.
I have found the tegra note 7 to have a slightly looser connection than most, it fits more snug in my phone.
Yes, this one should work perfectly fine - looks exactly the same then mine.
Thanks icks for the help and link most grateful

no problem, it's worth noting that I'm getting one of these as well
http://www.ebay.com/itm/271054941404
I hope it will take off some of the tension on the microusb connector and fit a little snugger. The flat cable should make it easier to fold it behind the tablet and get out of the way.
I have several OTG cables. Not all are the same. Some don't work well in my experience. Some are for Nokia and remember reading on the s4 thar a while ago a discussion of what didn't fit. My samsung official OTG cable works fine as does a cheap cable bit another cheap cable had disconnection or connection issues.
