[Q] Visibility in direct sunlight - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone, I was wondering how the screen performs in direct sunlight. Too hard to read? Bright enough?
Can someone please provide their experience with this. Pictures would be great if possible.
Thank you.

This is my first tablet so nothing to compare it with but at full November sunlight it was a little difficult to see.

Thanks for the reply. I'm still deciding between the Nexus 10 and Transformer Infinity. Sunlight readability is important to me so I'm hoping for some pictures to compare to this:

[THE] What the...?! Cameravideo as background

oh my god !!!!! I hope it is NOT a fake !!!!!!!!!
Yes, same comment from me...
How the hell did he it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=435131
I reccomend to rename this thread hoping the solution - explanation how to use the camera view as background on TF3D can be accomplished.
Can not be else than some reg tweaks - but which ones...THAT is the question
Wow, thats a battery saver
But cool is that the top and bottom menu are trasparent!
My guess is that it is a picture theme and the theme is the tf3d screen, so you probably couldn'y actaully use the phone from there.
Thats what I reckon anyway
guys- look carefully at the clip.
it is not recorded - it is the camera showing live stream as you would record or take a picture.
Certainly not a battery saver as it uses the autofocus function which is mechanic and consumes more.
However, it is really cool.
ahhh... the possibilities
think this, and the beer app!! get it... see through beer glass!

Will be sure to drink one in name of XDA Developers.
Greetings to all.
looks awesome BUT, thats a CDMA diamond with 256 MB of ram and its running so slow to his gesture commands. i have a feeling that it would make your GSM diamonds puke and it would be bailrly useable for the CDMA users. HOWEVER it is very sweet!
So...it is or it isn't a fake !?

T-Mobile version is a Victor by design, not that it matters
it isnt standard anyway; ive got one. the standard rom is as slow as it gets.

At 16secs when taking the phone towards the camera he should have took the camera towards the phone: the phone's image dont change.
I believe it is really a fake. The image just doesnt look right. That swinging left/right is very unnatural.
So I vote for fake
I don't understand what the big deal is? I don't have that creative of a mind though so maybe I'm not thinking of something cool that could be done with this...
looks fake given the display angle on the screen doesn't match the angle of the camera on the subject.
i suspect it's a mirror that's used to reflect the object image onto the shinny reflective screen on the diamond. But I could be wrong.
regardless, very creative!
I'd say he just used chroma keying

Dissapointing camera :( With example pics!

Last night I went to take my first picture in dimly lit conditions ( I was in the Pub DJ'ing), and am hugely dissapointed!!
Firstly you cannot see anything on the screen when trying to look at the subject about to be photographed, for a second I thought the screen had tuned off it was that black!!
So I then took the photo (blind) and this was the result.......
Asside from the fact that it is blurry which was probably down to me not holding the phone steady as I was in shocked disbelief that I could not see anything, it is a terrible picture, he looks like a ghost because of the white out effect from the flash!
It really was a bad experience which is a million miles away from the day time photo taking pleasure that see results like this....
Although it is still a little washed out.
Does anyone have any tips for better quality pics?? Or a tweak that actually allows you to see what your about to photo when it's pooly lit (like in a Pub)?
Cheers!

Cheers but it's not the pink splodge i'm dissapointed with, I cant see that in any of my pics.
It's the fact that you cant see anything on the screen or focus when your in low light conditions, shooting blind, and then the white out effect!
i have the same problem too! you cant change the flash settings as far as i know. but the flash is way too bright(makes a great flashlight though )
I find that if you turn the assistance flash on before you take the photo, the light levels are better adjusted.
Theres seems to be a problem with the flash timing/sync etc..!!!
its a commoon problem, ive contacted HTC(as have others). Check out this thread to see their replys.

My HD2 takes pretty good pics for a phone.
Any updates on the flash adjustments
I agree. It seems crazy for you to be expected to frame a shot properly when the screen is pitch black ,the light should come on on its own when the light sensor detects that it is dark!
The best thing to do for now is to manually turn the flash on using the flash button before you take the shot, at least thats an easy work around.

lol the camera is fine, its not as good in macro if you use the camera flash, what I do is just turn the flash on using the torch aplication, then have the flash set to off in the camera app and all is fine.

Peace gardens!! You live in Sheffield?
Sadly I don't think there's much you can do here, that's just the nature of LED flash; it's just useless (and that's why you never see it on normal cameras). And this thing has TWO LED flashbulbs xD
They should have just used xenon flash like a normal camera?? But I think they use far more battery life.

Another [Think Tank] for Amoled Power Savers

OK guys, if you've been doing your research, you've probably heard of Jeff Sharkey, the guy who messed with SurfaceFlinger and found a cool little hack for the Nexus for some color filters. Anyway, here's the link: http://www.jsharkey.org/blog/2010/07/01/android-surfaceflinger-tricks-for-fun-and-profit/ https://review.source.android.com/#change,15613 (Second one is the source on Gerrit). Pretty cool, right? Now I've been looking around the Galaxy Forums, and unless I missed something, nobody has put it on this phone yet. I'm starting another of my soon-to-be famous think tanks to get the dev community inspired to make a cool little hack or kernel. So surprise me!

No joke!! I'd like this option or even better a way to dim the screen even more than we are currently able to.
This is for the devs:
https://review.source.android.com/#change,15614
I have no idea what to do with the source code myself, soooo you devs have fun...
Though we do need SurfaceFlinger first, which I can't seem to find. Only search finds I get are what it does...
I already started a thread on this, but nobody seemed interested.
It's probably not that no one is interested in doing it, it's probably more due to the fact that our active devs are currently entrenched in trying to fix system critical problems (Lag, HSUPA, etc). Definitely keep this idea bumped though, I'm sure someone would be willing to take it on, and with readily available source it probably wouldn't be too difficult to port.
I am definitely interested in this. For reading this would be awesome I think, especially at night.

[Q] Camera so slow...

So I'm guessing its the device being slow but I wanted to see what everyone else had experienced and if there is a fix.
Basically I find the camera terrible. The only way to get a decent shot with less than perfect light is to use the stabilizer, which as many of you know slows down the pictures as it has to process the picture. This is VERY annoying to me. My iPhone 5s takes a much better shot and instantly without processing.
Has anyone found a fix for this be it prop settings or alternate camera apps?
I have to imagine there is a fix for this...
My last iPhone was the 5 (had the 4s before it). Apple sure has the whole "just works" thing down. That said, I REALLY like the Note 3 camera and the screen - I think it's better than the 5 - but in low light, the processing thing is INCREDIBLY ANNOYING. For a phone with this hardware, you'd think a 2 second "processing" bar would be a thing of the past.
Yea, so anyone find a fix? I want to take pics of my kid and don't have time to wait between pictures...

I am also interested - so "bump" --- I can't stand the "processing." I remember the 4.3 roms had a mention that prevented this. I wonder if the 4.4.2 roms will get it?

A Fix!
Hey guys I found a fix!
After poking around on my rom (Beans) I noticed they had the option for the CM 11 camera app so I grabbed it...
BOOM instantly better quality, speed, the works. :good:
So seems like the stock camera app was just terrible. CM got it right and now I'm really happy with the quality.
I compared both cameras and in almost ever case the note 3 was on par or even better than my 5s.
If you guys want some compare shots between both android cams and vs. iphone 5s let me know and i'll post some.
If you want the CM 11 camera I'm sure a little goggling will get you the APK.
I'd also love to see what your experiences are and if you found the CM camera app to your liking.

I really miss a macro mode. I take a lot of close up detail photos for work. Now I use an eye loupe over the lens and it actually works better than before but.. you would have to carry it in your pocket...
On a side note I find the kit kat camera faster than the jellybean camera.

It probably benefited from the high-speed air cooling. Maybe that's Sony's plan to address the issue. They'll rename 4K "Skydiving Mode"
