[Q] Does the Nexus 10 still have the Smart Remote capability of the other Sammy Tabs? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm not one for the screen... nor the NFC. For me... I'd pick the Nexus 10 over the Note 10.1 simply if is has the PEEL function which enables you to use it as a remote. LOL

The specs sheet doesnt indicate that it does. And all the video reviews that Ive seen never talk about it. So I'm thinking no.

It doesn't. The only one I know of that does is the Note.

Hope it has no phone function unless via bluetooth.
If it has a 10.1" screen no point in calling it "Note". It's against the basic motivation "all in one ultra portable" behind the "Note". I think it's just a Samsung employee mistyped.

I suspect with all the patent wars going on the "Tab" has a poor rep with distributors and retailers. Rebranding the tablet as the more successful and undamaged Note may work well for them.

As I know from the last rumors... Tab = with pen
Peter and chaosdefinesorder both have good point but I think it may not come out as well as expected for Samsung. "Note" was on the right path through becoming a real brand icon with some unique features as the name "iPhone" recently is. "Note" is probably the truly first device i-people consider changing their iPhone for. If they use name "Note" for tablets with pen I think they will lose that chance for good. I mean nobody calls iPhone as apple brand phone right? So it's better if Samsung keep "Note" as a brand name for specific highend models with s-pen and tablet-phones upto max 7". And they shall not release various different Samsung devices like 7"version and 5"3' with brand "Note" at the same time. They should release new version only once a year like iPhone does to keep Note brand name as perfection for ultraportable phablets if they wanna keep sales so good as it is now. So when people hear "Note" they will know exactly what it is and can picture it clearly instead of letting them think about it's one of Samsung phones among various different models.

I am pretty sure these will be new tablets with the digitizer pen, hence the name note. No one ever said that note should be just a phone, note name is connected to the pen not the phone.

Why would you want to limit the phone!? If you don't want to use a large device as a phone, just don't. But other's might. I just don't understand when people ask for limitations.

The Galaxy tab 7.7 seems like a perfect fit for those wishing for a bigger 'Note'. It has phone capability, so grab a BT headset and go for it.
http://www.samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxytab/7.7/index.html?type=find
For me I want the 'phone' size of a Note (I really do not feel it is large at all after a couple of months), and have a good big tablet for home use for playing games & surfing. That may have to spend a lot of time charging, or have some meaty batteries.
for me best phone/tab would be : galaxy note plus
5.3" screen
quad core cpu
1.5 gb ram
12 megapx camera
2x usb ports (for connecting hdmi adapter and other one for charging phone)
better battery
and the price of this phone i wouldnt care

Can I turn the S3 into a Note?

Reviews on the S3 so far are positive. As there are problems with the Note+ICS, can I buy the S3. Then, install software such as Premium Suite on it? Does the S pen work on the S3?
No.
No Wacom digitizer means no S-pen. Fingers & capacitance pens would be as close as you get. You could probably load the premium suite on it, but I would assume the software on the s3 is more suited for it.
I just got ICS on my Note, & after doing a hard reset, it seems to be working quite nicely.
You may be able to possibly turn a galaxy note into an S3

Software wise, yes that would be much easier
C-pen
I don't know what it means, but I suspect the S3 is not a fingers-only gadget.
I asked the staff at the Samsung store. He does not know about the C-pen nor
Premium Suite!
For turning the Note into S3 via software, do I need to root?
S3 has nothing to do with S-pen absolutely. It's the matter of hardware.
Sent from my GT-N7000
The C-Pen will just be a capacitive stylus, that would work on any device with a capacitive screen. It is essentially just an extension to your finger and won't have anywhere the precision or capability of the S-Pen.
Essentially, the SIII is a fingers-only device.

Yes, you will need root access but be VERY careful using root access with the current ics kernels because you could end up with a bricked device. I recommend giving the Midnote rom a try, it's full of s3 features. Just make sure you follow the installation instructions to be safe.

Most problems arise from people who flashes a lot. If you use stock rom and do not root or modify sensible system settings, you are mostly safe from bricking anything.
A Note is a Note and the S3 is the S3.
I guess you can't interchangeably turn one over the other.... You can however port some of the niceties of the S3 to the Note.. and it would add up more some cool features on your already powerful NOTE!
However the S3 CAN NEVER BE a Note... The Note was design as a high breed of a cross between a tablet and a phone.. while the S3 is just a plain Smartphone. Yeah, you might say there are more fancy and cool features that the S3 can do that blows the Note away, but given that the Note is a mix of a phone and a tablet... It functions in a dual manner.... You can use it in landscape mode and forget it as a phone, or you can do it the other way...
I never get bored using my Note as it offers an endless and myriad possibilities on what it can offer me... Even though the Note is already a year after its released.. It is still one hell of a PHABLET!.
Something that the S3 could never ever take it away... (I'm sure when all the hyped on S3 would die down... people using it would tantamount to being bored of it).
While on the other hand the NOTE?
well... It still belongs to the top pedestals of cross breeds of tablets and just a plain old boring smartphones.
and oh by the way... did I mention that It still as always attracts attention every time you use it in public?
I'm pretty sure the SPen is too long to fit in the S3.

Who Misses A 10.1 Inch Tablet

Who switched from a Transformer Prime and got the nexus 7? I did and gave my Prime to my mom and I just upgraded her to a Transformer Infinity. After using it for a few days, I miss a good 10 inch device. Who else feels like I do?
Sent from my Rooted Galaxy Nexus
Not me. 7" is just right. I've never owned a 10" tablet but have spent several hours on friend's iPads and was to big for me. I even sold my laptop and bought my nexus 7 with some of the money. For real work I use my desktop though.

Ten inch tabs are too bulky, too heavy, cannot be held in one hand properly and are generally just a nuisance.
I don't think they're very portable either, which is important to a tab?

I agree with what you're saying, but I don't see any point in the N7 leaving the house, unless your taking it somewhere for a purpose. Because the N7 doesn't have any data capabilities and pretty much needs WiFi to function.

I miss my 24" PC screen, but it's a bit bulky to carry around. I went from 5" Galaxy Player to N7 and haven't touched my GP in 3 months.... but I do like the font size on the Galaxy Player on many apps that just look too small on the N7 (especially Amazon Appstore). That isn't the point though in my eyes.
Yes it pairs perfectly with my HOX too, but that means I need both of my devices for the Nexus to work, and for what I use it for while im out and about (e-mail, facebook, twitter etc) tethering the HOX to the N7 to do that doesnt seem like theres a point to that.
So I will just keep using my N7 for home use, unless I really want to take it out for someone.

My HP Touchpad has a great screen size for use sat around in my lounge but anywhere else I preferred my Nexus 7.
I have an Acer A500 and haven't used it all that much in the last two months to tell the truth so I guess not.
Actually I'd prefer to have a device slightly bigger, the new amazon kindle fire hd 8.9" sounds about perfect, just wish it had tegra 3
I wouldn't want a 10" tablet though, I prefer the N7 for the weight/size.
I really like the 7" form factor and after having a 10" Transformer IMO it's the perfect size for tablets. Small enough to be portable but large enough to view stuff easily. I hate typing on a larger screen because I have to hold it with one hand and peck at the keys with the other, I dont like Thumb Keyboard either.
7in tabs are perfect. Everyone in my family has an ipad and they're heavy and way too cumbersome to hold comfortably. But to each their own

Anyone who wanted a 10" tablet - would get a 10" tablet.
Been carrying my Nexus 7 all around town this morning - never felt the absence of internet.
Actually - I never go anywhere without it...
Every coffee shop and restaurant I go to provides very good WiFi.
Places without, I use the chance to catch up on my reading.
I've still got my g-tablet and prime.
Although they are both pretty much collecting dust. I'll use the prime occasionally for web browsing because of the bigger screen. Or for real work, since I have the keyboard. But otherwise, the Nexus is just so much easier to carry around. It's my go to.

What makes you think that another 20 page here will make a difference? It'll be the same people posting the same views.
Here's my $0.02: If you value functionality over PPI, then Note10.1 is a clear winner. Any other tablet (e.g., Asus Transformer, Galaxy Tab 2, Acer, etc.) will accomplish what N10 can do in terms of functionality alone. Of course, N10 will look gorgeous while performing those tasks with that amazing screen, but the difference ends there. The addition of stylus and the plethora of extra functions (e.g., S-Note, pdf annotation, office doc annotation, drawing/sketching, etc. etc.) make the Note 10.1 a clear choice for me. If these points are not important to you, then N10 might be a better choice. How often do you use the S-Pen or the related apps? If it's not part of your routine, then there's no need to stick with Note10.1, if you want to have the PPI and a "Nexus" device.
Good luck!
You'll always regret something as none phone/tab is perfect.

my problems with this tablet.

i have 3 things that i find utterly annoying with this tablet.
1. it seems that while in drawing with sketchbook pro, the button on the s pen gets in the way, idk if i just cant figure out how, but it needs an option to turn off the button.
2. the sounds removing the s pen(at least for me) kinda suck, would like the option to add custom sounds.
3.this is just a toss in one, but when i got my tablet, the right botton corner was up, like it hadnt been put together from the factory, after about 10 min about gentle coaxing it snapped back into place, but come on samsung... 600 for a tablet with out of the box defects?? not a big issue though
I agree. I had the original 10.1 & loved it but I sold it in hopes of getting this new 10.1 or the surface pro. Glad I didn't get the new 10.1. Then some people complain of lag on it. I guess it's all the bloatware Samsung has running on it. Good luck either way.

You should be able to replace the pen sound once root is available. My original Note 10.1 does the lightsaber sound. People at work get a kick out of it. You basically use a root enabled file explorer and replace the sound files. Pretty straight forward.

Ask yourself if you will use the s-pen at all. If the answer is no, wait it out or just get the current Nexus 10. If the answer is yes, get this. I did notice some offset. The offset for me is when I have the pen angled. Depending on how you hold will determine the offset. The s pen does seems more accurate. But the Wacom feels better in hand. I haven't done any detail work with the wacom, just loose sketches. I could see using both. I know there is the Samsung version, maybe that one doesn't offset as much, not sure. I was gonna order one to test out.

I don't think it's that simple. I like stock Android and all but I worry about stability and quality control issues with nexus 10 tabets. Fair point. Even when custom ROMs come out I'm not going to put AOSP on here because I really like the Samsung extras. I'm really amazed at this tab. It's phenomenal all around. We get something like hyperdrive or Revolution HD and it'll be spotless.
Also, I hope people are taking advantage of the Samsung app "Watch On" that came installed.
Uses the ir blaster to change the volume and channels with a cable guide that you can just press what you want to watch and it changes it for you. Also if you have a newer smart TV you can watch what you are watching on TV on your tablet. It's like magic lol. I have my tv, cable box, AV receiver, and blu ray player all set up a land It's makes for an awesome experience

I found this application to be just awful. I ended up using "Smart Remote" as I just could not stand the interface. I don't have cable, just a media center, so giving me all sorts of info on whats on TV is useless. I wish there was a way to turn that stuff off, as I may use it then.
