[Q] So it's ordered - now what!? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I took the plunge away from iPad and Note 10.1 and even managed to order a 32gb model but now what?
What are YOU going to do with yours?
I am currently uploading my iTunes library to Google Music - given limited storage but I'll only ever really be near Wifi or on a Mifi I'm really looking forward to this.
Bought new Spiderman film in HD to show off new display and / or test for lag in HD films
Cleared out dropbox of unwanted files
Added client files to Google Drive
What apps / games / functions are you most eager to install / try?

I did pretty much the exact same thing. Although I am in the US of A so I am patiently waiting a few more hours til I can purchase mine. I already uploaded my music to Google Music due to owning a nexus 7 b4. I too bought spiderman. But I am looking forward to installing some gameloft games and ea games. They recently updated them to support nexus 10 screen res. Supposedly they are impressive.

I am here in The USA as well waiting to order all my stuff is ready to go just waiting to buy.

The only things i use my fire for is reading books and listening to streaming music.. so im figuring it will be more of the same on the 10"..

i just ordered mine. 32gb and here in the usa. i will be using mine for work . and internet browsing i hope there is some sort of case or keyboard dock to use with this. ohh please... but ya pretty excited. i had to stop reading reviews because it was driving me sick reading the apple fan boys reviews. i dont care what product it is. i want an honest review.

And so on.

Banking on my 16GB to arrive by Friday (I've been awake since 3:45AM PDT today waiting for the N10 to go live on Google Play). Pushed my magazine and ebook PDFs to cloud storage and am looking forward to spending a LOT of time catching up on my reading.

I ordered a 32GB variant of the Nexus 10 here in the United States. Until I get a case for it, I'll use it mostly to play movies via HDMI, since I just recently killed off my contract with DirecTV. Part of the money I spent on the Nexus 10 came from the next several months of savings from not having to pay my TV bill. I just grabbed subscriptions to Hulu Plus and Netflix to make up for the TV that I lost. Why pay $120+/month when I can pay about $16 for virtually the same thing, plus have all of my media available on my tablet and phone? The question answers itself. Other things I'll use it for at home are web browsing, Google Music, and YouTube (lots of YouTube - I watch almost all of my news on YouTube except The Daily Show). It will be a nice magazine reader, too, given my new subscriptions to Car and Driver and Newsweek.
Once I get a case for it, I'll take it with me to class. I'm a graduate student, and I will use the Nexus 10 for taking notes in class, accessing my syllabi and other school files, and for carrying around all my textbooks. I've managed to, between Google Books and Amazon Kindle, find all but a small handful of my school textbooks in digital format. Instead of carrying 5+ books with me at any given time, I can carry my tablet and maybe one book and have a much lighter load. The Nexus 10 is perfect for someone like me. It's nice because I can even draft papers while in class or on breaks using Google Drive/Docs, and then finish the paper at home on my laptop. But my laptop isn't nearly as thin and light as the Nexus, so no longer having to carry my bulky laptop will be nice.
Some day, when I have a real job, I'll buy a nice ultrabook and probably leave my tablet at home, but for the kind of performance I demand on a laptop, an ultrabook won't meet my needs (for now... new processors will change a lot with that), so leaving my laptop at home and carrying a tablet is nice. The Nexus 7 is cool, but feels more like a toy than something I can do any work with, hence my decision to sell my Nexus 7 to a classmate and buy the Nexus 10 for me.

Rumor has it that google reps are saying that they will not arrive before Monday that it will take 2 days to process before shipping. Who knows what will happen though.

I'm organizing my subsonic, calibre, and cloud accounts for streaming purposes. I got the 16gb so I will mainly use for streaming until I decide on other storage alternatives. My 32gb TF201 with keyboard can handle all storage issues for now. Now I wait

I can't wait to use Coaches Eye
So useful on my wife's iPad for correcting posture and technique in the gym with clients. Also all the runners I coach.

I'm going to see if I can find a case for it.

I enjoy gaming a lot so I'm keen to see how dead trigger runs and looks on the nexus 10. I'm sure developers will update their apps over time to render properly on the nice high DPI display. I'm so excited for this resolution at this screen size! I just wish my dell laptop with a 14" screen had twice the resolution!
I'm also interested in seeing how apps like Google drive and evernote look on it. Google earth for eye candy too

Life feels better after the Iconia! My 2 cents.. :)

Hello!
I've had the Iconia for about three weeks now and have to say I'm very satisfied with the device. I went to the U.S. on late April for a business trip and decided to invest my hard earned money on a new tablet. I was able to side test the Iconia, Xoom, iPad 2 and was sold by the Acer for the following reasons:
- Full sized USB and microSD right out of the box;
- Speaker quality;
- Rotation lock switch;
- Battery life;
- Feels AWESOME in hands (very important factor to me. We all know the Iconia is heavier than the iPad, Galaxy, Transformer.. but those extra 100g are well distributed on its fantastic design);
- Fantastic design
Both Iconia and Xoom share very similar hardware specs, but the A500 user experience felt a lot smoother. Dunno if it's Android related, but I actually had to hard reset the Xoom in store. That was very disappointing.
I own an iPhone 4 since its launch, so I'm very used and kinda tired of iOS. It feels outdated. Don't get me wrong, I love my iPhone, it's a phenomenal piece of hardware, specially after jailbreaking, but I felt it was time to go for a more flexible solution for my tablet experience.
I never saw the Iconia as an expensive toy. Sure I can watch movies and Youtube videos with my girlfriend in bed or have many laughs with friends while messing with the "Nipple" app.. but I no longer feel enslaved to a chair and table when I need to browse the web, read emails, chat, online shopping, read, read, read, etc NO MATTER where I am. Yes, I have a laptop, but it's simply not the same thing. A funny example, the other day I was editing an important document on the laptop, when all the sudden I felt the urge to go to the bathroom.. it took me less than 10 seconds to save the document to a thumbdrive, go to the bathroom and resume my editing on Quickoffice. Comfy and priceless!
I also play drums and have been using the A500 quite a lot for sheet music reading, learning new songs, etc. Last week I was jamming with a couple of friends as we needed some lyrics.. I just handed the Iconia to the "singer" (we were kinda drunk, lol) and he had all lyrics opened in different browser tabs in a matter of seconds, ready to rock. Again, priceless! Here's the result (just for giggles):
I have only 2 minor issues that hopefully Acer will fix on the upcoming update:
- GPS not properly working (or not working at all, while the iPhone locks to the satellites almost instantly);
- Random wake/sleep bug.
At the end of the day, I think it's a matter of life quality and 450 bucks sounds like a very small investment for what I've gained so far using the Iconia. Definitely a keeper for its price and specs. Thumbs up, Acer!
I like mine a lot, I hope Acer fix GPS, in my X10 gps lock almost instantly without wifi or 3g, I miss that feature.
Love it, great stuff, it certainly does change how you access the net, read, music etc.
I love the music player and browser, also got the american google book app which looks fantastic and is real smooth, but cant add your own books so not much use...
I have been into computers for a long long time, and I can safely say that tablets are the first real game changer, even more so than laptops...
We are all blessed to have one of these devices (or any new tablet) to be able to enjoy and use in our lives.
Enjoy
I aslo agree, I love this new form of computing. I have a big, loud, and sometimes room warming gaming desktop. It feels great to not sanction myself off in the corner of the room to pay bills, reply to emails, and do basic things. All while not staring down my on my phones screen.
im buying it for sure!
thanks for the nice info.....
yeah I feel the same I use my Acer iconia A500 all day so far I'm very satisfied but just feel like we need more developer support like the Asus and xoom if you look at their forums they already have custom themes I want that but even if we don't get it oh well I still love my tablet the same
I enjoy the hell out of mine. I didn't buy it to be a supercomputer, if I wanted an Ipad2 I would have bought one. Plain and simple, the Iconia does what I bought it for, web browsing, music, video and a few games now and then. It came down to a choice between a new laptop or a tablet. I wanted the portability of the tablet and didn't want another device tethered to Itunes. I'm glad I bought mine and I also understand this tablet is still very early in its development and should mature well over time. Did I expect absolute perfection from day one, nope, but I'm glad I got what I did and I'm going to stick with it.
Love mine for many reasons, but this is #1

This is how I feel as well. You know they get it right when you can't see yourself without a certain piece of tech.
Can you live without a cell phone? Sure! Would you if you didn't have to? Doubtful.
This is the sentiment I hold for my A500. I will be the first to admit that it's not necessary. But boy is life better/more convenient, etc. with it around.
I won't complain about the price, though I suspect Acer could have done a little better than $450. Still, we are paying a premium as somewhat, first adopters. Eventually I'm sure parts will become cheaper, as well as assembly and somewhere down the line the price will be more in line with what I consider to be perfect (aka $400 or less).
Your reasons were exactly why I went with the Acer over the Xoom although Im pretty sure they will get things sorted out. I hope both are a success as I really want to see some app development on the commercial side (games etc).

How much do you love your GTab?

So far I've been extremely happy with my tab. In fact it works so well that my wife confiscated my 16gb white and I needed to get myself a new 32gb gray. The baby loves it too.he gets to watch cartoons while the wifey drives around. How about you fellas? Anyone have a good story?

im loving it and glad you posted this thread... every thread in here is about peoples problems... but ive had none, sure is there a slight lag in typing in a browser? at times but its nothing to me... so far so good...
im actually afraid of the touchwiz update because i dont wanna mess up a good thing...
I’ve loved mine since day one. The trouble now is that my wife has discovered how good it is.
Loving my tab. So far I have gotten a couple of my friends on the bandwagon, now that netflix works and we can stream hulu and full flash support, it’s hard to compete against.
I like my 10.1 but made it a personal policy to never fall in love with gadgets since there's always a shinier newer one just around the corner.

As it stands though, I'm happy with it so far. Opera works better than stock though it's erased one or two text entries, randomly, on me.

definitely love it. I'm in the process of integrating it into my daily leisure and professional routines:
using the tab to make meeting presentations (need the HDMI adaptor)
using the tab for default pdf reader, ultimately going paperless (need a better pdf app, that you can highlight and mark text)
using the tab as the only personal notebook (need a good scribble app, right now i have apmemo but its not optimized for HC)
of course, I am using all the basic features, movies/music/browsing/gaming.
Definitely love it.

totally love it !
i bought one and a week later got another one for my wife.
i've used an ipad and a viewsonic -
in performance, build quality, look and feel - neither one is overall as good as the sgt !!!
About this much. *holds arms out wide*
I am enjoying mine quite a bit, only had it for a week. I had a 7" Tab previously and also have an iPad. I really miss the Micro SD card slot from the 1st gen Tab. I really liked being able to manage my media on the cards and pop in a card with a movie on it. So I have to say that I HATE the iPad style built-in memory without any expandability. It's one of the things I thought was a big Android advantage that Samsung chose to remove in this new Tab. For that reason I have been eyeing the Asus Transformer but I like the screen and form factor better on the Tab. So I would dump the Tab for another honeycomb tablet with removable storage if it matched the screen and was reasonably thin and light like the Tab 10.1. I would also like to have 3G capability although that's not a deal breaker since I have hotspot capability with my iPhone 4.
I also love the battery life... I basically charge it like 1 night during the week, and it lasts till the weekend... I'm at work all day so only can get on it at night, but you can leave that thing sitting on forever and it barely drains at all...
Just picked it up last night from staples. Last one in stock.
So far loving it.

Same here, i'm living in france and got a US one from a website. It's a pleasure to use it, and as i also have an Acer Iconia A500, i prefer to play with the gtab...it really rocks.
A little bit of smiling now. At my work, a guy was offered an Ipad2 for his birthday wich is a great gift...but...his notebook had problem with the USB port...too bad, cos the first thing an ipad tell you is ...plug me into iTunes...So the guy wasn't able to use his ipad till he fixed the usb port pb. Next...every apps that he download for his iphone 4, go directly onto the ipad screen...he said...i have to rearrange every thing now, and there's a lot of app not compatible with it.
I told him he should go for android devices ...at least you only need a free wifi spot to get something, but you can play as soon as it is out of the box.
Love it so much that i bought a bunch of accessories to keep it happy

My laptop is pooping out so i looked for alternatives. Got bitb for 700 total. Now i know im a little late to the game but is it a waste of money? From what ive seen this is pretty much the best tab on the market . Return or keep? Thanks in advance.

The Prime is a train wreck. Check their forum. The Samsung OEM BT keyboard is amazing and serves the same function as the one in the Asus products. The difference being it doesn't add extra battery life. It does however double as a case and can be used keyboard down as a stand. Here's some pics of mine (disregard the Vaio). Keep in mind, no Android device can replace a laptop if you do anything but light work and don't collaborate. Faux-Office can't compete with "real" Office.

Seriously, any one considering the Prime spend some time on their home page. It's got serious issues. The TF700 due out in a couple of months that has a different design and plastic border for its antennas is a better choice if you want a hard dock.
Oh, I'm happy with my 3G GTab101;
I'm only talking about docks;
Just don't tell me you wouldnt like Samsung to release/have released something like Asus?
It's aint magic alright; it is just a keyboard dock with a battery and a USB port.
But I sure would like something like this for my GTab. Thats all.

Truthfully, I don't get the whole "Android as a laptop replacement" thing. Faux-Office is just that, you can't use things like WebEx and SharePoint, and Ethernet connectivity either doesn't exist or has to be kluged. For light document creation, e-mail, note taking and the like I get it. I use my BT keyboard like 20% of the time. The little Vaio in the picture has a 256GB SSD, runs Windows Ultimate and Office 2010, and has VZW broadband. I'll take that before the G-Tab if I need to stay connected to the office.
As for Asus vs. Samsung keyboards, I like that the Samung reverses to be a stand and acts as a protective case at the same time. It has better key travel and feels more natural too. I have a ZaggSparq that I bring on long plane flights w/o power if I need to extend the Tab's battery.
It's all personal preference and how you everyone individually uses their devices.
Neither am I digging the whole "Android as a laptop replacement" thing; at all!
I dont have any bluetooth device; and am not planning to buy one as long as we dont see a serious.. let's say "standard" gamepad.
(I just cant understand why we dont see any)
As for Asus vs. Samsung keyboards; my point wasnt to say which one is the most comfortable or such;
Take whatever Sammy keyboard you like and just give it an extra battery and a USB port. .. But keep the price around 100$. Not 200$.
I think that it can be a replacement depending on needs. For my needs like multimedia viewing, web browsing, email and short papers but if youre developing stuff or mixing music or other stuff then obviously it isnt a replacment.

Nice find! Here's some other footage I found on it.
I've had my eye on these for a couple of weeks now. I have an iPhone 4, and I must say, for gaming it sucks. I also had a Novo 7 Elf and that was OKAY. But these JXD gamepads are really awesome looking. So I've decided I'm going to get myself one. Payday is in about 3 days, not including shipping time...
For as many threads of these JXD devices as we see, it's a shame there aren't as many reviews out there. They look really interesting, but I just don't know if I'd trust the manufacturing quality.

I'm really interested in this. I'm just waiting til I top up my debit card again.
One question though: Most articles I've read say it's available for pre-order at $150 but all said articles point to WillGo which prices the device at $160+ excluding SD card. Why is that? $10+ dollars is something big.

One question though: Most articles I've read say it's available for pre-order at $150 but all said articles point to WillGo which prices the device at $160+ excluding SD card. Why is that? $10+ dollars is something big.

$150 was the special pre-order price. You can still find it for $150 at other stores, but if you can afford it I'd go with the Willgoo link because they're quick to ship and offer very good after sales support.
got to get one of these, for that price anyway, shame there is no white in stock !
I received mine a couple of days ago. My honest impression of it so far is that it's an incredible piece of hardware trapped by ridiculously poor firmware coding. This thing has so much potential, but the mistakes that JXD made with the code are mind boggling. For example, the left analog and d-pad are distinct pieces of hardware, but they cannot be mapped independent of one another, and the right analog is mapped through the touch screen. And it appears that the display might be locked at 50Hz.
It would seriously benefit from the aid of some of xda CFW gurus, but the problem with that is, so far, JXD won't release the source code. A pair of users have actually made a good bit of progress improving things, tremendously so given that they're no experts and they don't have any source code to work with, over at http://boards.dingoonity.org/android-devices/jxd-s7300-fixes-firmware-roms-thread/ but it still needs more help. I would encourage anyone with the skills, time, and inclination to head over there and try to lend a hand. If people are successful in correcting JXD's mistakes, this tablet could actually be worth the price.
There is a recent review in Euro Gamer,

I'm definitely thinking about getting one of these..... but I have too many gadgets... ARG...
EDIT: I can't post links, so i trimmed the uri with tinyurl and posted
JXD
I bought this and I can't wait to try it out, and yes, I really do hope someone with skills desides to pick this up because it's always nice to have the support!
So, how's it been working for you? Just saw this last night and have been googling around for more info. I have a Nook Color right now that I use for reading, how well does this do on non-game related apps? I want to get something I can play games on and emulate with but I also don't want to have to carry two devices around all time so I'm hoping to be able to use this as my eBook reader, Web browser and media player too...
Also have you (or anyone else) tried using a microSD card larger than the listed 16GB?what were your results?

I received mine yesterday. The build quality is very pleasing for the price (£98 for me) although some have mentioned problems with soldering etc internally.
There are problems with the analog sticks but they look to be resolvable. On the Dingoonity boards a couple of developers have released a very good rom that fixes a lot of the typical problems with cheap chinese tablets such as bloatware, slowdown etc.
The main problem seems to be the screen running in 50hz mode which causes stuttering in some emulators. I have played using FPSE, Mupen64, Dead Trigger, NOVA3 and they all run really well, even though the mali drivers are apparently rather out of date.
I use a 32GB SD Card and all seems fine. It's just formatted to FAT.
I have high hopes for this having owned and been thoroughly disappointed with an Archos Gamepad.
I'm interested in buying one of these they have a lot of potential. But the tablet seems too pricey for me. Have any of you guys seen the JXD S3500 or Yinlips YGP13?

well, for people that are interested on this device, here is a custom rom for this.

To be honest it looks rather interesting, especially at that price. But after my parents once bought a chinese "iphone-like" tablet with some ancient software on it and i tried to update it, i am rather sceptikal about android products from china.
Still more interested into than a wiiu though.

[Discussion] what do you think about the Note 12.2 ?

The screen is awesome, and so are the specs..However, I am on two wheels 90% of the time. Size and weight are biggies with me.
Right now I am still within my return period on my GN 2014, along with my tax refund to take up the difference. I was going to snatch the 64gb one... But, after looking at the size, compared it to my 10.1, it is just too much..I travel very light on two wheels. Either on motorcycle or bicycle, space is premium.
Now, if they came with another 10.1 pro, I be on it, especially since I am in my return window..
Again, this thing is too big..

I think the weight doesn't matter and as long as u have a nice bag for it neither does size I don't think I ever heard someone saying hey I wish my tablet was 100g lighter plus the screen size just makes up for all of this

I am actually excited for this one i think they had some leak pics up on CNET
looks nice!
As a math teacher this looks like a great teaching tool for notes and lessons!
Same here... in my profession... I definitely need this. but I prefer the LTE version Screen size for me is the best.
...
First impressions
Well, I've had my 32gb WiFi Galaxy Note Pro for 2 days now.
The screen is superb. I absolutely love it.
The size looks much larger than expected, in terms of feel, than my Note 10.1 2014 - a huge difference when watching video.
I have experienced no lag at all.
The TouchWiz UX is OK - but the magazine home screen I cannot get on with. The content is too restrictive and doesn't cover my interests. Also, you cannot remove the Magazine screen - grrrr!
Also have a problem writing to the micro SDCard - see my other post.
Still early days yet but a general 'thumbs up' from me.
Yes, I really want this, but first things first.
- I need to be able to sell my Nexus 10 for a decent price before I can buy this.
- I'll not be an early adopter/unpaid beta tester. I want lots of reviews (both pro and amateur) before I make a commitment.
- I suspect this tablet will be huge with the custom ROM community. I'll wait until there's some solid ROM development going on.

I've always found the 10" tablets too small to be really useful, in particular since I've almost always had a large phone with me. Currently the GN3. 10" was too big to carry in a pocket and too small to be useful on the go. So if I'm going to have to carry it in a bag/case, might as well go with a moderately larger screen size. But not too big so as to become heavy and bulky if I want to use it on a plane, vehicle, or even couch.
With this form factor, I'm hoping it'll fit right in between my 5.7" phone and 15" notebook, depending on where I'm going and what I want to do.
Mine gets here Friday. Yay.

Bought mine from BCC yesterday here in the Netherlands.
This tablet is simply amazing. The extra screen real estate makes it so much more useful. Makes you really wonder why no one else tried a larger display the last three years.

Not noticeably.
Only minor annoying thing is that some elements are just to large for this display, but that's a general Android thing. I'm afraid I gonna need to tweak the density (like it's done in the good old days).
Hope it will get rooted soon so we can run custom roms bye bye UX
Almost $840 after shipping and tax from Best Buy in the States. I may be a fool for spending nearly a thousand dollars on a tablet, but at least I know I'm not the only one. .. looking forward to getting my hands on it!

I suspect the opposite as its too expensive to be mainstream and its Samsung which has not been developer friendly. Do these new tabs come with Knox?
