[Q] What version of Bluetooth? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've seen some reports that says it has bluetooth version 3.0 and others that say it has bluetooth 4.0. Google's Nexus 10 website just lists it as having bluetooth without a version number. Can anyone actually confirm which version of bluetooth in actually in the N10?

Just took a look at a few reviews and you're right xD. Some say 3.0 and some say 4.0
Only 4 more days to go anyways. Not long left to find out for sure :good:

Issues With Bluetooth Keyboard & 4.2

I have the Nexus 7 with 3G running the latest Android 4.2 stock/rooted. I've been trying to connect my Motorola Bluetooth Android Keyboard and it pairs fine, shows it's connected but nothing works...no typing, home button...nothing. I tried it on my VZN Galaxy Nexus running Jellybelly 10.2 (also Android 4.2) and it also isn't working. I did some research and saw that 4.2 might have broken bluetooth connections? Is this true? Is there a work-a-round or do we just have to wait for Google to send the update?
Thanks
Should work fine. I've got a Nexus 7, Jelly Bean 4.2, rooted, Motorola Android Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
All paired and working no problems. Try switching off the keyboard and then reconnecting again.

I did that about 20 times...still nothing...I tried changing batteries but they were from my tv remote...I'll try again tomorrow with brand new batteries...I just can't figure it out...frustrating...unless the keyboard itself is faulty? It used to work on my iPad about 4 months ago...
Well I tried new batteries and no go...it wouldn't work on my iPad either so it's not 4.2. Plus my Bluetooth mouse worked just fine. I just ordered a new keyboard from eBay so we'll see how that goes

The Bluetooth stack was replaced in 4.2 to a new, standard conforming one from Broadcom. This is a good thing - long term.
Devices that were dependent on the BlueZ stack will have problems.

[Q] Bluetooth Sync with Cars, Trucks etc.

There are threads that discuss the problem with different releases of android releases that are missing bluetooth capability over 2 years ago, nothing since Dec. 2011.
That said I have had a Motorola Photon running 3.2.2 gingerbread that would sync with my ford MySync for audio and display and read SMS txt messages.
So getting a brand spankn new Nexus 4 with Jelly Bean, I was very disappointed to see that all I can sync via bluetooth is the phone and directory.. so old hat now days, they all do that.
It seems that this should be a big enough problem that it would have been fixed long ago, but I can notspelling understand why going from an older version that works, is broken or missing in a much later version.. :crying:
Does anyone know what is going on?
Same here, I would have thought the Nexus 4 would have sent the metadata for the music that I was streaming via bluetooth to my car as well. But nope, just the music no artist info, name and or the ability to browse my playlist.
I use poweramp and poweramp supports this feature as well. Guess we have to wait for custom roms to support this.
same here but at least the disconnection issue has been fixed

Oh and I did forget a Charge only setting. When I connect it by USB to the car, I have to set it to picture mode only as the music player setting is not recognized.. never had that problem with gingerbread,

I get the same thing, but since BT 4.0 is relatively new, there is an update for my car to support this bt version. Im waiting to change the oil to ask my dealer to update my BT software.

Bluetooth not showing track info

This is driving me mad. Installed a new car stereo to get Bluetooth up and running (Pioneer AVH-2400bt, 2012 model). The streaming works fine, but the track info simply doesn't display on the head unit. My wifes older Android phone displays this info, but the N4 doesn't.
I have heard CM10.1 has a fix so I flashed it a few nights ago...still nothing.
I am assuming this is an 4.2.1 issue...but does anyone else have the same issue. Does anyone have a fix?
Just an update: So far none of the 4.2.1 ROMS offered any improvements (not their fault...google just decided not to include this in jellybean).
I was hoping the 4.2.2 update would bring fixes. Once again complete disappointment. Google still hasn't managed to get track info up and running.
So the "bluetooth fixes" in 4.2.2 don't include any track data info sent via bluetooth. Frustrating.

y0bailey, i feel your pain. someone in my pioneer stereo thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2115864) said it has something to do with google using some crappy windows bluetooth stack protocol which is apparently pretty crummy and basic.
edit: nevermind, that was the MTP protocol for USB..not bluetooth..that is based on Microsoft on the N4.
check pioneer's website; they updated the firmware for your radio a couple weeks ago..i have the 9400 but i think its the same firmware patch. (nevermind..looks like you got a new firmware update on Jan 10 http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/support/software/AVH-2400BT/page.html#download_310)
i updated mine to the latest and crossed my fingers this would allow our little nexus to display track info on the head unit..but alas..no love.
i'm definitely watching this with interest as well.
edited: i just recieved the 4.2.2 update as well..i'll go check my car radio again in a few minutes just in case the combination of the new pioneer update plus 422 makes a difference.
Weak!
Been awhile dealing with this issue, can't seem to find a fix. Apparently everyone spent all their monies on phones and only a few of us first world problemers have car stereos with bluetooth media streaming
My LCD in my car looks so empty when listening to music now

[Q] ROM supporting bluetooth LE [jfltexx]

Hi,
I have been searching around the interwebs for a 4.3 ROM for jfltexx, but i can't seem to find any that lets me create application for LE. I have tried the latest cyanogenmod and slimbean ROMs (failes the hasSystemFeature check), and also looked around for any mentions on this subject. From what i have found i can't see that anyone has confirmed BLE support on their ROM. I might have missed something though, so does anyone know how i can BLE functioning on my Galaxy 4?
Much appreciated, Henrik

Forgot to say that i can detect BLE devices with the bluetooth scan in settings, and pair with them. Only application fail the BLE check.

For me, it's even worse. BT LE devices can not be detected with my i9500.
As far as I learned, Android failed to deliver proper BT-stacks. Not sure if any developer cares about this. I didnt see any development in any forum
With "BLE Heart Rate Monitor" from play store, I can connect my heartrate belt with BT LE. But my fitness apps can not connect with it. It seems that they use the improper original Android BT-stack (afaik)

Is there any way to check what Bluetooth version a connected device is using?

Hi all,
I'm using a Android TV 10 streaming box.
A question that seems straightforward to me, but one I can't find an answer to;
Is there any way to see with what Bluetooth version a connected device is communicating?
(to be clear, when I say connected, I mean connected via Bluetooth)
I have a conflict with a Amazon seller.
He advertised his product (rx/tx Bluetooth receiver) as having Bluetooth 5.0 but I have my doubts as similar products have Bluetooth 3.0 class 2 chips on them.
He says his product is an upgraded version, but that doesn't seem very likely.
As the package, manual and product are quite generic and don't show much in the form of specs there isn't much to go on.
So it would be nice if I could check the Bluetooth version being used in the connection.
Any way to do this?
System info apps I found only seem to tell the Bluetooth version of the device it's running on, not connected devices.
