Operation 32gb sd card! - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883582
I remember seeing this back when I had the HD7. Thought it was interesting. So why not buy an 8GB and rip it open and replace the mem chip>?
I know you will have to be a man with an iron heart and nerves of steel to crack it open.
But I am sure someone will! May be...

Well i don't think that the nexus uses a SD card i think it uses something called Nand chip but i am not sure

I didn't know it was truly an SD chip in there. Even class 10 SD memory isn't all that fast.

If it does actually use a micro sd card, and it's actually accessible, that would be revolutionary news! No one would need the 16GB version

I don't think so.
Try this

That page is blocked btw.
I assume you're linking to the internal shots though, which of course don't seem to show any signs of a microsd card, right?

Thanks, fixed it.
And yes, that's where I was referring. Pretty complete tear down, no SD card.

Wow.. the document show of the internal teardown had also means the battery replacement will be quite easy too. Good news?

Some manufacturer should make a case with a micro-usb to sd-card integrated on it.

I'm quite sure the device is using nand flash memory chip, would make no sense to include an internal SD Card.

If you look at this the user manual on the FCC website, there's a section about using a memory card. It's located at page 32 if you use Acrobat and page 33 of the guide. And page 33 or 34, it says "NOTE: The LG-E960 supports memory cards up to 64 GB."
There's no slot but they say how to mount/dismount SD card...

It's also missing pictures on those pages, so can't really tell if the manual is just not in line with the actual device.
Could be just an early adaptation from the Optimus G user guide.

My god that is the worst put together phone in the world.
I was hoping the Nexus 4 internals was just pre production but it's really shipping like that?
If you take an iPhone 4 apart it is like a work of art and I don't even like them.

I'm not sure if I read that. Did they?
I read this: "One thing we're very disappointed with Samsung and Google about on the Nexus S – no external microSD expansion. Yes, 16GB of internal storage is good, but we want to be able to transfer stuff across without using a PC, or add in extra video storage space as and when we want it."

User manual: WTF

Credit to DJ Palmis for Source:http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/GT-I9300ZKABTU-downloads
Page 20 of the manual:
Just having a quick read through page 20 is a bit worrying
Insert a memory card (optional)
Your device accepts microSD™ or microSDHC™ memory
cards with maximum capacities of 32 GB (depending on the
memory card manufacturer and type).
Your device supports only the FAT file structure for
memory cards.
WTF
Thought it was supposed to support 64gb and Xfat????

Regardless, you can still make it a FAT32 and it will work. You will just have a 4GB limitation which I don't think people will be carrying files that large. But I'm sure it's a typo.
I've never been so excited about reading a user manual.

If I understand that bolded text correctly, this manual is from last December.
But the last page says:
English (EU). 05/2012. Rev. 1.0
But it's a definite typo. I think.

Yeah most likely it's 5-11-2012. Those foreigners always putting the date in weird formats.
The ICS manual of the S2 reads just the same, word by word and we all know, 64gb sd cards work on the S2.
So I think there is no need to worry, isn't it?!

Also I recall there's really no difference other than it shouldn't assume max storage is 32GB which some software does.

Is this legit?

I was tooling around Craigslist today looking for a good deal on a tablet, when I found this post. The first thing I noticed was the price, so I had to check it out.
The guy is claiming to have added more internal memory into the Nexus, making the memory a grand total of 80 gigs....
I am a bit puzzled by this, since I have read nothing about anything close to this kind of modification. Is this legit or is the dbag trolling for money?

I sent an email asking for pictures with a recent newspaper or blank piece of paper with the word "banana" written on it. We shall what this guy is trying to sell, if he responds of course!
These have been on eBay too. While I don't doubt the possibility of soldering memory to the USB bus internally, I highly doubt that a seller would be doing this without it being posted somewhere, on some forum, to completion.
The eBay sells turn out to be OTG packages. Its likely this will too.

What does that mean in fool language? Could we upgrade this memory card and get more storage ? I saw that this metal plate is removable and we have access to this memory card.
Don't think, a person with normal soldering equipment will be able to change this without ruining the phone.

so that's why we don't have external sd card...
i suppose you can't really replace it.
Motorola being a Google company this is a bit of a contradictory move.
Google haven't allowed SD cards in their Nexus devices for a while now because of worries related to failures, slower read and write etc, but here they are using an SD card as the main memory of one of their devices?
Just start building nexus devices with SD card slots again Google and stop this ridiculous apple like behavior.
I wonder if there's any phone with this kind of memory setup. I mean eMMC instead of regular nand? Is it a regular speed / high speed eMMC?

Google is a smart company that always find nice PR justifications for what they want to do. The truth is that they won't allow SD cards because they want you use their cloud and / or pay for the extra storage.

Death Of a SDcard

Hello there,
My Sd Card Recently unmounted unsafely through boot.
I was using the rom Omega v25, SD was damaged.
Is there any solution to fixing it?
I had tried formatting it but there is no media to format.
Any help would be appreciated.
I can not see it in recovery totally invisible, Ive tried mounting it through Phone settings and it will not mount.
Can not mount it through recovery either.
It does not show up in Partition Wizard for me to change the format.
I Have attached a Image for what it shows in disk management.

Cat 1: those who are making backups regularly;
Cat 2: those who will learn that they shall do...
