[Q] Will there be Rom development for Nexus 10 ? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok..Sorry to be noobish guys..but i am looking forward to get my hands on a nexus 10 pretty soon, but the "Never" mentioned on the android development thread for nexus 10 made me uneasy.. is it just that the device hasnt lainched yet so its that way or there will never be any development?

I would expect a bit development. Personally I've been waiting since the Nexus 7 launch for this device, and I can't be the only one.
No point in creating a ROM at this point though, no one can even test it. With it being pretty well priced for what you get, I'd be kind of suprised if at least a couple devs don't pick one up.
Patience..

The "never" is just a default with this forum software, when there's been nothing posted, the date of the last post is "never". Don't sweat it.
It's a Nexus device with the expectation of full source being released, it's hot hot hot hardware, it's well priced and it will be selling world-wide.
There will tons of development for it, guaranteed.

There will be some super sweet customers roms, always is nothing the Nexus devices.
Me? I'm waiting on ParanoidAndroid.

Not only with their be amazing ROM development but there will also be custom kernel development. I know Francisco Franco has said he will be developing his kernel for the Nexus 10 and his GNex kernel is amazing. Nexus devices are made for development, they are the easiest to work with and since this is WIFI there's no carrier involvement. Updates are straight from Google the day they are release and they usually update AOSP source just before or in conjunction with the release so custom ROMs will incorporate the changes before or right after the update drops.
Sit back and relax, development will take off Nov. 14th.

Nice to know that..shall have my hands on one soon.!

REQ: Nexus s honeycomb rom

I was wondering. Now that the honeycomb sdk was released will therebe ports to nexus s and who is working on it?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I'm sure there will be. You should add [REQ] to the topic
Sent from my Darkginger CM7 Google Nexus S!
Can't wait to see what the developers have in store for us in the future. I love my Nexus S
* the SDK is an early port and not fully working.
* The OS is made for tablet and will look unusable on your device...
I think you should wait for the official release.
By the way, I am impressed by the lack of dev's on the Nexus S, we have only CM7 coming and the ROM's can be counted on the fingers of one hand!

it will work on lower resolution such as 800x480 (eg. nexus s size)
we just have to have adw or launcher pro as the home.

Sometimes it's about the quality of Roms, not necessarily the numbers. Cyanogenmod is the most significant rom since it is built from aosp not ota.
Honeycomb is built for tablets. Sure smartphone version will come but honestly a sdk port isn't worth a daily driver. Well have to see.

I know this is old, but they have a release out, but it has far too many flaws to be near stable, it's still in alpha

Its being worked on so I have faith it'll turn around. More devs are joining the project by the day. It'll get usable fast as long as there are devs willing to work on it and people willing to waste time testing it hehe

What's the deal with the hundreds of ROMs???

The Nexus 7 has so many ROMs it is almost overwhelming. I have tried so many, but at the end I end up un installing. Why? Because they do not update from Goo Manager app. You have to hunt down the updates every couple of days. Hell, sometimes the "developer" only makes a couple of versions then abandons the project.
I learned about the Android Original Development Section, those ROMs are more unique and are not just copies from each other. They can be more unstable though.
I want a Pure AOSP untouched, that is able to be updated from Goo Manager, pre rooted. Any recommendations?

Hundreds? I count 15 ROMs for the Nexus 7 here on XDA, and that's both development section added together. One of them even states that it's a pure AOSP ROM. Being able to update on Goo Manager isn't going to be something you just run into as being common on all ROMs. At least right now. I currently have 3 active devices, and I flash constantly. I think I have come across one ROM between them all that had any association with Goo Manager. That should change as it gets more widely adopted.
This is just beginning, too. Go take a look at how many ROMs there are for a device like the EVO 4G. There is 64 pages of ROMs for that device. The Nexus 7 only has 3. You're in for a rough ride if you think there's already too many.
AOKP all the way!
They have been making some very nice roms and shortly they should have a Nexus 7.
There are a lot of crap ROMs out there. If it's not Cyanogenmod then I'm not installing it.

Hundreds? Yeah mate, you need help with your math. Try going to the S2 or S3 section, then take a look at roms. Even then, why does it offend you? Just choose what you want and go with it. Some cater towards some peoples tastes and other roms, to other peoples. Isn't that the best part of having such an ecosystem?
Plus, the rom you just linked *could* be seen as fairly outdated now seeing as it was updated over a month ago.

I think you are misunderstanding the purpose of XDA. It's a developer community. A lot of people are here to learn how to develop for Android. What you may see as waste of your time, could have been a pretty big deal to the person that cooked it. XDA isn't here to provide you with the most awesome ROM for your device. It's hear for learning and supporting developers. Who in most cases are nice enough to share their work with the public. If you don't like it, don't flash it. But don't start ragging on ROMs/devs because you aren't happy with what they did.
Best solution EVER. If you don't like what's there...grab some coffee and your reading glasses and learn how to make your own ROM that is exactly what you want it to be. Otherwise be grateful for the intelligent and amazing folks on here that give up their time and energy to provide you with free tools, ROMs, apps, hacks, and advice.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Or you could, you know, just update it yourself. It's not like you don't know how to flash hundreds of roms.
Lol, my old galaxy ace had 500 ROMs and they were all based on the same CM7 and had one ICS theme or another.

Will Nexus S get 4.2?

I was just reading through tons of news on portals, and I can't find any info about Nexus S or Galaxy Nexus and 4.2 being rolled out. I mean, Google surely has already decided what to do with us.
I mean honestly, I know Cyanogen or AOKP, or hopefully Rasbean will keep updating my favourite phone ever (really, I have never had a phone this awesome. Pioneer of it's price range and specs!) but I want to know if Google still likes their Nexus S.
it cant be that hard, I mean there really isnt anything new.
I wondered how long it would take for a thread title like this would come up..HAHA!
Can't see why not, it got 4.1 so should get 4.2 as it's not a huge update. Well, that's my wishful thinking anyway!
Still JB, will get

Yes, the Nexus S will get 4.2 officially. It will get 5.0 as well, if not officially then by CyanogenMod.

I'd say ^^ pretty much ends this convo. Right on target.
Nice to hear all that. Nexus S ftw
Why not
Our Nexus S it's untill powerfull...
It better! I just bought a used one yesterday!
I think the chances are pretty good that the NS will get 4.2, but beyond that I'm skeptical. We're coming up on the phone's two-year anniversary for one thing. It's also begun to chug a bit with Jelly Bean, and I doubt the next major update will be any less resource intensive. Between the age and the hardware limitations, I suspect we're in the twilight months of Google support for the Nexus S.
must will get 4.2.... not official no problem
this will probably be the last update the Nexus S gets.
Good thing tho, you know most likely that XDA will have some form of port.
I'm getting the Nexus 4 tho!!! my contract is almost up. I might even get it off contract! (AU$400 for 32GB, thats dirt cheap compared to the iPhone 5 which is AU$900! That's less than half the price, for better specs... and android... and build quality is improved dramatically from the previous Nexusesss)
I think it will get 4.2 ... it an incremental upgrade, so anything 'jellybean' we should get
Can't wait to try 4.2
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
It will get official 4.2 for sure, but key lime pye will be here only unofficial.

last year, when I bought my Nexus S, someone told me: "It's a year's old phone.. don't waste your money..."
I'm almost sure for 4.2 ...
I personally think about a Google "3 letters law" for Nexus devices. Nexus One went from E(Eclair) to G(Gingerbread), passing by Frojo, Nexus S will go from G to J passing by ICS, and GNex will "live" from I to L ... Officially speaking, I mean And, of course, I hope there will always be some clever group (like CyanogenMod, for example) or "one man band" who enjoy to develop ROM or kernel for our preferred devices :fingers-crossed:

You made the right choice .
It remains to be seen if the Nexus S and Xoom will get 4.2 or if 4.1.2 was the last update. We won't know until 4.2 gets released to AOSP. I will say that since they seem to have axed the Honeycomb-style tablet interface from 4.2, the Xoom may be out. As for the Nexus S...historically Google has only maintained support for the current and previous phone generation, which would now be the Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus. That said, however, I don't see anything major that would lead me to believe that the Nexus S couldn't run 4.2...unless they tossed out support for capacitive buttons entirely.
Regardless of whether or not there is a stock 4.2 ROM for either device, I'm sure the developers here will have custom ROMs that have it baked in.

OmniROM discussion - why don't we have any serious Omni?

Looking at some other forums I noticed that OmniROM is a more used in nexus 5 or nexus 4 forums.. But actually something like multi windows would be awesomely great on our n7..
I've got the feeling that the development of n7 is quite dead..
Is this just a felling of mine?

You will ALWAYS have more development in phone forums than tablet forums. More phones are sold than tabs, just the nature of supply/demand. You also have to have some patience. 4.4 was just released & the full source isn't even available yet. Nobody is going to continue developing 4.3, so you have to wait for 4.4 to start rolling & then stabilizing a build is priority over implementing features. That said, it is open source & you are free to build whatever suits your needs. I used to do just that, but I have a real job (just like many of the devs) as a mechanical engineer which takes priority over everything, along with my other obligations.

You are right with that, for sure..
But this is one of the reasons why I bought N7 instead of others..because I was pretty sure that I would have more support.. but honestly this is making me upset... T_T
I'm a flashcoholic.. I need to flash something for my tab as I do with my N4..
I just would like Multi-Windows and Pie honestly... I wish I was able to build my own..
..Anyway you are surely right saying that is because of the "numbers" of tabs compared to the "numbers" of smartphones..

Question on Custom Roms

Always wanted a Nexus but availability issues has stopped me. The 6P will be the first Nexus to launch locally and I really want to get it. However, I've heard ParanoidAndroid(fav. custom rom) is no longer in the scene and are working with OnePlus now. What other customs roms are still operating other than Cyanogen? Which would be recommended for Nexus devices? I know PA was more or less exclusively on Nexus/OnePlus devices.

Nice, why didn't I think of that. I suppose CM is the most popular rom for N6?
Cm would be popular but most ROMs are going to layers instead of cm theme engine as it's native in marshmallow on nexus ... So a lot of ROMs like slim and pure nexus are very popular
6.0 also has native multi task
Pa still has builds but not much going on there as a lot of their big things never got merged

Check out Chroma. By far the best Nexus 6 rom and he has bought a 6p and will be updating the rom for it.
Nice rom from what I can tell. Any word if zeph will be updating it to 6P?
EDIT : Seems like he bought a 6P and will be developing for it. Excellent. Might have just confirmed by purchase.

I made my purchase the first day in which preorders became available, it'll arrive by October 27-28. Marshmallow will be coming out this week, so I'll be working on Marshmallow when I have the time, Nexus 6 (2014) should start receiving builds and once the 6P arrives (I selected 1 day shipping), I'll start working on making the ROM compatible with N6P which shouldn't be too difficult.
Hope to see you there

No, and its app is available on Google Play. Welcome to XDA!
Definitely looking forward to getting back to using custom roms after being unable to with my last 2 phones having a locked bootloader (so they were limited).
Really disappointed Android Pay won't work with Custom Roms, but holding out hope someone will find a workaround.
Chroma and BeansTown(purenexus) ROM would probably be the best top two for customization and stability. And it looks like Chroma ROM will be coming for N6P =]
