[Q] Screen Peel Issue - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I'm new on this forum and I'm french... sorry if my sentence is bad !
I''m intersting to buy a tablet Asus Nexus 7 32 GB !
I read on this WEB that exist a big problem for many customers that bought a 16gb and 8GB version !
That you know. this problem is that a glass peel on left side, and that obligate each owner with this problem to repair or send our tablet for replacement !
I read that many users received a second and third replacement with same problem !
I'm a little worried about buying this tablet.
So I have 4 questions for you :
1 - Does this problem is resolved during manufacture ?
2 - If a problem is resolved, wich tablet before any manufacturing date should I NOT buy for NOT having this problem ?
3 - On my store I can choose a device (32GB) ! What number model or serial number I should NOT buying ?
4 - Does anyone buy a 32GB with this problem ?
Thanks

yet again.. self answered questions
The problem is caused by a design flaw in the tablet..The flaw is because the bezel lip where the screen if glued down to is much to think for the adhesive to hold it in place. The cut away of this area on the plastic bezel also causes the screen bezel to warp due to its structure missing.. In the latest versions they have tried taking steps to Compensate for this..
They are now leaving two screws out of the bezel on the left side. I also believe in the c0a .very latest model they are using a stronger adhesive. I have the very latest 32 gb model and the screen sits perfectly all the way around... So getting the very latest model could help.. but its nothing for certin..
By the way this is answered 200 or more times in this forum.. over and over even with images.... you answered your own questions.....
You could have bumped up one of the other threads and posted this asking for confirmation..

Yes i did finally..It got me banned from google plus for two weeks.. I never said i was done with google. Just done with google play store device support. they should be called NON SUPPORT .
i SAID I was not going to buy another nexus . But i got 32 gb from Office Depot.Google as a whole is not the issue its there refund practices. oH I also got banned from google plus for two weeks. I received several emails from google higher up saying they know there is a issue with there returns policy and are working on updating there systems to make it faster for consumers..But did not offer me any type of compensation for the troubles. go figure.
Sorry Op for responding to this off topic post
On topic .. op buy from a brick and mortar store or be prepared to wait a while if you have a issue..

Goodbye Asus! Can't say it was fun.

I've made a similar post a few weeks back but I thought I'd give this thing yet another try. Well...I'm done with the transformer. I believe this is the biggest piece of junk EVER made. Yes, I said EVER. I am currently on my 6th....read it again, 6th unit!
First 16gb model had a big bulge in the back. Took it back. Second was a 32gb and wifi died completely. Third had massive light bleed and rear panel clicked. 4th, again massive light bleed, so much so that around the edges, blue looked like gray as well as dust under the screen. 5th had a massive white blotch on the LCD to the left of center. Just picked up my 6th unit yesterday, and out of the box, a chip on top of the frame, dead pixel and firmware that doesn't update OTA. Installed update manually, but what if this is bought by someone who isn't well versed in android or computers in general and just wanted something to read books on??
Asus, are you serious with this thing. 6 units and you still can't get it right?? This is my first and I assure you, LAST asus product. Do you guys even have quality control at your factories? This is absolutely unacceptable. It's about a 30 min drive from where I live to where I bought this gigantic piece of crap. Asus, are you going to reimburse me for gasoline in these days where gas is more expensive than ever?
I am utterly disgusted with this product and in fact your company in general. Reminds me of the days when I went through 4 asus motherboards (each time, the fault was confirmed by a tech), and finally opted out for a Gigabyte which has been working flawlessly since day one.
I guess this is what we can expect when crap is built in China where workers cannot wait to finally finish their shift and go home.
Thanks Asus....for nothing. I'm wrapping this worthless piece of crap and exchanging it today for your competitor's product which for sure will NOT come with a damaged bezel. You are formally banned from my household.
And please people, spare me the "mine is fine" crap. Well..maybe YOURS is, but I've gone through 6. I should also add, that each time I was there I had to wait in line behind someone who was also returning theirs. The store admitted to me that qa on these things is THE worst they've seen yet, on any electronic device and so is the return rate.
Transformer = FAIL.
Was the package sealed?
Thanks for submitting a complaint to Asus Customer Care...wait that's right this is XDA. My TF is working great and Asus support has been awesome when I needed them. And the two Asus Mobos I've had work just as good as my TF going on 2 years now.

And as far as the "this is what we can expect when things are made in china" - you better ditch nearly EVERYTHING electronic you own and not buy any tablet on the market considering they will all likely be mostly made in China.

ROFL
May I suggest that you stop buying open box items? Order from somewhere that takes care of the product rather than a retail chain OR when you get it retail, OPEN THE BOX AND CHECK IT BEFORE YOU BUY.
This isn't the place for ranting about your own failure to use reason and logic.

Also, I am a bit confused. In one paragraph you say:

Now I can't trust anything you say. I am forced to assume that you work for Apple, Samsung, or Motorola.
I would guess Apple though, since clearly the TF is the greatest threat to the Ipad that Android tablets have going.
Seriously 6? I would have stopped on the 3rd. I'm already planning on galaxy tab 10.1 if this one breaks the same way the 1st one does.
Sorry to hear you have had such a hard time with your Transformer. My transformer has nothing wrong with it except for very small light bleed, and it is the first one I ordered. I love Asus products personally, I have always found them to be reliable. I have built about 50 computers with their motherboards, cd drives, and video cards and have never had a single one fail on me, my family, or my friends. Guess we are just lucky.

The next time something like this happens to you, just be honest. Go back to the store and tell them, "Look, I've got a terrible case of buyer's remorse. Can I get a refund?" Better still, think carefully before you buy.

What thing are you giving another try honestly? Trying to bash the transformer in the place where everyone loves the transformer!? Seriously take it up with asus as im sure most people in here don't care and don't want to hear about it. If we wanted to hear about this we would look under your first post, we don't need you reminding us that you suck at buying products and cluttering up the forum.
All I can say is the same as many others. I ordered mine from Tigerdirect, and aside from some small amounts of light bleed, I haven't had a single problem with mine. If you don't like a product, fine. I guess the first question is, why would you go back to a brick and mortar store multiple times to get a product replaced? Especially when almost every single issue you pointed out was rather prevalent in the first batch or so of the product? My guess is that you went back a number of times and got first batch products that all ended up having problems.
My suggestion, buy an apple ipad 2. Better to let you join all the other morons over there than stay here and complain. All I can say is that I hope you get an Ipad 2 that has problems as well, so you can just complain to Apple (who won't care at all).
Hm im still on my first one and no problems here other than a stuck pixel which I fixed and a dust trapped on top of the S on Asus top left of ybe screen but not on the screen itself. Sucks you had a bad experience this machine is a beast im even keeping it stock (for now) because everything is running so smooth and im experiencing no lag. Anyways i dont think you needed to make a thread bashing it I hope your next tablet sucks too

yeah , I completely agree with darkhawkff, why would you go back and forth six times to the same store, it could be that just completely wrecked the whole shipment themselve somehow . I got mine from tigerdirect too and the only problem i had was a littlest light bleed. Just stop complaining about your experience with 6 returns because i highly doubt anyone cares about your opinion of the TF and asus while we are on xda on our own TF that may have a little problems but we deal with it.
LMAO... Sounds like someone needs a hug?
I have a VS GTab AND the TF 101. Both have "issues". While I see that HC is still needing improvement, I am happy to go with the flow and see and be a part of the developement. I mean, come on, it is a sub $500.00 device. I think you would be better off with an iFad. Thanks for stopping by!
You, sir, have just made my Sunday evening Great work!
Meh. Find everybody that had a similar experience to yours, and it turns out you can't buy anything. Since we are here, my experience with Nokia reminds yours. Everything cool with cellphones, a mess with smartphones. 7650, power button stopped working. 3650, spent most time getting reflashed in assistance because it killed itself several times and the build quality was really poor.
Asus actually shared a factory with Apple, they made MacBooks, and there is nothing wrong with those.
Plus, as already mentioned, everything is made in China, even Apple (and people around here can fanboy as much as they like, but build quality is great) so that argument is quite weak.
I'm not telling you to get another TF, or to trust Asus again. But every company has somebody as happy as you... just that

Your a glutton for punishment I'd of quit on the second if I went that far. . Where did you find 6 of them at a brick and mortar store? Probably Frys ..if you bought anything there you were on your own anyway.
Mines great (only bought 1) I love it more every day.
Go home....... Asus doesn't live here.
Why people whine so much is beyond me. If you don't like it take it back. Get something else no one cares it's not like it is ours.
But with all due respect not that any is due after that post ...don't whine.

split plastic around screen

iv had the play since it was realeased and over time the piece of case going down the left part of the screen has become slightly loose. today I picked up the phone and noticed 3 small splits in the plastic so I put my finger on them to feel if they were raised and a bit of plastic fell on the floor .will Sony ericson replace this as its still under warranty and I didnt expect this kind of cheap plastic on a 500pound phone.i love the phone and will support where I can. every phone iv had is been a se so in sticking with the play which im nt disappointed just didnt expect this :-( any help will be muchly appreciated
sorry forgot to post pic
SE probably wont replace it but its worth asking them though. I have seen a big thread on the arc fourm with people having cracks in there cases. Dunno mate phone them up or make a post on the SE fourm and see what SE says
thanks mozza2k11 do u think I could by the casing or smthing ?
tbh not really sure, i know you can buy the touch screen digitizer's but not seen any other parts really, maybe in a few months parts will be available? I think i would probably do more damage trying to repair it myself lol . Best you can hope for is some advice in SE Fourms or phone SE and see what they can do. Other than that i think your stuck with it
I contacted SE about my phone and the wobbly right trigger button, they say the device is under warranty for 24 months, and getting it fixed is down to the "trained engineer" to tell if its their fault or not. If they deem the phone not under warranty it'll cost you £10 to get it home.
You can always try and risk a tenner?
cheers for the advice people mite just give it a try I can live with 10 pound if they send it back

Squeak on right side of device..

Okay so I purchased my Nexus 7 from Gamestop back September (I also purchased the 1 year insurance plan). Since then I have been extremely happy with my device and have had zero problems, up until now. I just noticed that on the middle section of the right side of the device, if I pinch it, it squeaks like it is not tightly held together. I am SUPER OCD about my mobile devices and am extremely bothered by this. I may sound a little ridiculous but: 1. Is this enough of a problem to get a replacement device? and 2. I would go to Gamestop for this problem and not Google, correct? I was really hoping someone should give me some advice/directions on what to do since I know that you guys on the forums have a lot of experience with this returning of devices.

I'm super OCD about my mobile device too!
My device squeaks a little when I press the middle section on the left side. I think it should be normal, the Nexus 7 isn't built from the highest quality standards after all.
I have the same problem on the same side. It's a bit annoying sometimes, but I almost got used to it. After all, it is a great device, isn't it?
It helps if you don't make a new thread but instead post in one of the many that have been made on this issue. Jeez its like NO ONE reads the forum rules anymore!

NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet - Cracked edges

I have now lately heard and seen with my own eyes, what i, if its possible dint wish to happen.
Unfortunately, many user of the tablet have a problem that makes the edges on the tablet itself crack.
If you have this problem please respond here, and let everyone now of this problem.
Thanks!
Srsly?This is joke?
Cracking edges with user damage?
SonyMobile @SamsungGalaxyNote2 History
It must be put of the design. I also had a Slit down each corner of my Shield tablet out of the box. My co workers is the same. No user damage.
Is this for real? Is it the glass or the metal edges of the frame that are cracking? I was about to order one, but now may just wait for the nexus 8/9 .

We are investigating the reported hairline cracks being found in the corners of the SHIELD Tablet casing. It is not yet clear how many units this impacts -- some have seen it, many have not.
But regardless, it’s not acceptable. We will offer replacement for any device with this imperfection, no questions asked. We’ll provide instructions to you, and update the community, as we understand more. Thanks again for bringing this to our attention, and please continue to enjoy your tablets.

Hi,
My shield tablet also has cracks in the 4 corners.
I've purchased this tablet from Microcenter during my vacation in the USA, and I actually live in France.
Do you think I will be able to exchange mine in my own country ?
Thanks

Make it a priority to have your voices heard there.
Having imported mine to Australia, I *seriously* hope my device doesn't develop this issue. I haven't even got it yet and I'm worried...
I've decided to cancel my order for the time being and will wait and see if things are resolved so all eyes are on nvidia.
I think the smartest thing to do is to wait and see what happens if you have not purchased this device already. You may be saving yourself quite a bit of time and money.

Go to the official NVidia thread. Plenty of pics there.
There are seams in all 4 corners of the device that all of us have, that is part of the build. What some people have though is a extra crack that is not a seam (looks like 2 cracks in the corner) and that's the issue to look for. Everyone has the seams (hairline from top to bottom on all for corners)
I just returned my Shield Tablet, it wouldn't turn on--even after reseting the charger and using a different charger over night. It also had what appeared to be cracks in the corner, when I get my new unit I'll report back.
Nice! We finally got our own Forums!
:cyclops:
Weak wifi was enough of a reason to return for me. Did not notice cracks, but not used long enough to maybe see them. Most report getting them after a few days of steady use. I will wait to see if they fix the wifi. The storage was too small anyway. Hoping the 32gb version does not have the wifi issues. Best Buy has the 16gb models still in stock and at least one slightly used one.

iP6 has Bendgate, but the N4 may end up with Gapgate

Anyone else see this? Hopefully (if true) this gets fixed before shipment here to the US...
http://www.slashgear.com/note-4-screen-gap-issue-is-worse-than-bendgate-29348268/
Samsung is already aware of the issue. These phones are usually produced a week or two before they get into the customer's hands so this should be a non-issue for the ones coming onto American shores. And it's a manufacturing flaw not a design flaw like "bendgate."

Might even be fake according to comments. But we all know what @ssholes some folks are that hang around the interwebs.
Most likely is not true... But in case it is true... You can use the gaps as storage compartments... Or as card holders as shown in pictures... Nice feature... Lol
My Note 3 had a large gap on one side of the screen. It was like the screen wasn't set properly. I exchanged my phone and the new one didn't have the issue. Not a big deal. Issue was resolved.
You cant return the 6 plus for a 6 plus that doesn't bend
complete nonsense to even compare couple phones sleeping past quality control to fundamental design fault. I accidentally sat down with my Note 3 being in my back jeans pocket more than once (simply forgot, since I usually carry it in side pocket), so bending ip6 may not be as remote possibility as some want to make it.
its for the new screen shield
I went best buy to play with the Note 4, I tried to stick a business card and there was no gap there.
Scare Tactics
don't scare us like that! but honestly, sammy always takes care of it, and seeing as how the phone is already out in other parts of the world, we shouldn't see any issues over here in the US. its one of the only pluses to not getting a phone first :good:
According to Android Central it looks like it's acknowledged in the manual.

No biggie, since I really want this phone - I'll just plan to buy it in person, and inspect it before buying (problem solved). But I did find the above article interesting, and wondered if Sammy added that to their manual after some of the N3's had similar issues...
Nonsense!

Same here, there really is no gap! And if anyone sees one, just get an exchange!
It's not even noticeable until some kiddie decided to stick a piece of paper in it.
I can stick a piece of paper in my note 2 as well, it's clearly not an issue
but, people will continue to make a big deal about it here..
Everything has a "GATE" at the end nowadays???????
